2011 Dodge Caliber problems
The Dodge Caliber is a compact hatchback manufactured and marketed by Chrysler's Dodge division from the 2007 through 2012 model years, replacing the Dodge Neon and Chrysler PT Cruiser.
Following the Caliber concept, which debuted at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show, the pre-production version debuted at the 2006 North American International Auto Show, with a market launch in March 2006.
The Caliber was manufactured at the Belvidere Assembly (Illinois) plant, and across its six-year model run, just over 400,000 were produced.

Common 2011 Dodge Caliber problems
The Dodge Caliber, produced between 2006 and 2012, has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. These issues range from engine problems to transmission failures and leaking draining tubes.
One of the most frequently reported problems is the failure of the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) in the Dodge Caliber. This issue is so prevalent that it has been mentioned in multiple sources, including a forum post by a Dodge Caliber owner who experienced this problem. The CVT transmission can fail prematurely, causing the vehicle to lose power or become undrivable. This issue can be costly to repair, and it is a significant concern for Dodge Caliber owners.
Another common problem with the Dodge Caliber is leaking draining tubes. This issue can cause the vehicle to leak fluid, which can lead to other problems if not addressed promptly. The source of the leak can be challenging to identify, and it may require the assistance of a professional mechanic to diagnose and repair the issue.
Engine problems are also a common issue with the Dodge Caliber. Many owners have reported engine problems that caused their vehicles to randomly slow down, stall, idle, or shut off. These issues can be caused by several factors, including faulty fuel injectors, failed catalytic converters, and faulty fuel systems. A dirty or clogged fuel injector can affect the amount of fuel delivered to the engine, causing the vehicle to slow down. A failed catalytic converter can cause the engine to run hotter than usual, resulting in idling or stalling. A faulty fuel system can also disrupt the fuel to air ratio inside the engine, causing acceleration problems.
The Dodge Caliber's reliability remains a contentious topic. While some sources, such as RepairPal.com, have given the Dodge Caliber a high reliability rating of 4 out of 5, other sources have reported several issues with the vehicle, including faulty transmission systems, engine problems, bad suspension components, and water leaks. Newer Caliber models have updated interiors and decent cargo space, but the high frequency of repairs and maintenance can be a turn-off for budget-conscious buyers.
In summary, the Dodge Caliber has several common problems, including CVT transmission failure, leaking draining tubes, and engine problems. These issues can be costly to repair and can affect the vehicle's reliability. Potential buyers of the Dodge Caliber should be aware of these issues and consider the vehicle's repair and maintenance history before making a purchase.

In a nutshell, it was poor sales. The Caliber didn't have any strong attributes and didn't compete well. SEATS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-09
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- VIN: 1B3CB3HA9BD
- Components: SEATS
- Summary: I've got a 2011 Dodge Caliber Mainstreet and during my drive home from work around 3:30am my headrest out of nowhere popped, hitting me in the back of the head and neck. There are 0 warning lights/codes present. I did not make any harsh accelerations or break, nor did I turn wildly. I was already settled into a lane on the highway and had already come to posted speed (60 mph) I was on I-610 West heading home and thankfully there were very few vehicles on the highway. Otherwise I probably would have caused an accident when I swerved out of my lane after being hit rather violently in the back of my head. The sound AND impact startled me not to mention hurt pretty bad and left a pretty good sized goose egg on the back of my head. I managed to make it back home be it the trip between my home and work is only 13 mi. Due to the fact that it was so early in the morning and still dark outside I chose to wait until daylight before I got ready for my next shift to take a look into what could have been the cause as well as checking to see what was needed to remedy the situation. I'm a personal driver for Alto so I know all about harsh events while driving a vehicle and none of which were the case in this instance. This happened completely out of nowhere for no apparent reason and with no warning whatsoever. I honestly wasn't even aware that there was anything in my headrest that could do anything like this. This is very dangerous and upon searching the internet I realize that I'm not the only person that has had this issue. So here I am now making a formal complaint. So far I'm not able to fix the headrest myself and am not sure if it needs to be replaced or can just be put back together. Looking into what to do next. I've made a short video showing my vehicle and the damage that occurred during this incident but it will not let me upload it onto the system. If it's needed please let me know and I will gladly send it your way.

- Summary: 2011 Dodge Caliber Mainstreet - Subframe is completely rotted and broke away from the sensor control. Mileage - 121,000. $2,500 to repair, in the shop for 9 days, $800 for a rental. SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-25
- VIN: 1B3CB3HA3BD
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: Upon bringing our Caliber into a service shop to install shocks because we thought the severe vibration was from worn shocks, we were told the entire rear suspension subframe was rotted and rusted to the point of the driver-side rear was almost split in half. Had it been driven much farther, the left rear wheel would have been separated from the subframe. The shop did not want the car driven any further because of the safety risk to ourselves and others on the road and we had to fix this issue immediately. This is a grave issue of safety being this is a major frame component, that was clearly faulty and known about by Dodge, which could lead to a serious or fatal incident. The car has 139,000 miles on it and has been a good car mechanically thus far, prompting us to remedy the problem. Upon researching this issue, it seems as if this is a known issue by Dodge and many other Calibers are also affected. Had we known about the bulletin, we would have addressed this issue earlier. The shop costs were around $2000, which included us purchasing parts to save more money on labor.

- Components: SUSPENSION,STRUCTURE,WHEELS
- Summary: Rotted Subframe on Dodge Caliber I was driving home after picking my kids up from school and my front tires would not steer and were wobbling while driving, losing control of my vehicle. I had to pull over on the side of the road so I did not crash with my children in the car. I called a tow company and had it towed to the closest independent service center. Yes, the problem was reproduced by a local mechanic ASE certified that the car is not driveable because the subframe was completely rotted out and needed to be replaced. No, the car is still at the garage and not inspected by manufacturer, police or insurance. There were no warning lamps, message or other symptoms prior to the failure. There were no issues driving to school and driving home it began to be hard to steer and then starting losing control over the vehicle and keeping it on the road. I slowed and pulled over to the side of the road and called a tow truck immediately. I was not going to take the chance of driving any further with my children and crash.

SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-06-22
- VIN: 1b3cb3ha6bd
- Components: SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I just purchased my 16 year old daughter a 2011 Dodge Caliber with approximately 75,000 miles on it. Great shape. She has drove it here and there for 3 months. 2 nights ago while driving she started hearing a noise so we took it to the shop to be told the entire cradle/frame is rusted and not safe to drive. This car has close to the same amount of miles my 2018 car has and clearly has been well taken care of for the entire frame to be rusted. To then be told it’s not safe to drive and I had my newly licensed driver in this car it’s heartbreaking. This is going to cost $1500 to repair on a car with less than 100,000 miles. After hearing about the issue I look online and see a lot of complaints about this same issue on other calibers of different years and this year as well. Dodge needs to fix this ASAP. This should be a recall. Someone could get hurt or killed and have no clue. The sound isn’t even that loud just sounds like a bald tire so thankfully she did stop and tell me and we took the car some people may not do that.
2011 Dodge Caliber recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2011 Dodge Caliber.
- Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
- Components: SEAT BELTS:PRETENSIONER
- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 Chrysler 200, 2010 Chrysler Sebring, 2010-2012 Dodge Caliber and 2010-2014 Jeep Patriot, Compass and Dodge Avenger vehicles. The Occupant Restraint Control (OCR) module may short circuit, preventing the frontal air bags, seat belt pretensioners, and side air bags from deploying in the event of a crash.
- Consequence: If the frontal air bags, seat belt pretensioners, and side air bags are disabled, there is an increased risk of injury to the vehicle occupants in the event of a vehicle crash that necessitates deployment of these safety systems.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the OCR, free of charge. Interim letters informing owners that parts are not available yet were mailed on October 26, 2016. The recall began on August 15, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S61.

Hi there! That sounds like a great car and deal you've got there!
-
This car is the most affordable option considering all the standard equipment it comes with.
-
First of all, I just wanted to say that I absolutely love my car more and more every day! I had previously owned an '05 Trailblazer LT 4*4, which I also loved, but unfortunately, it only got 13 mpg with 62,000 miles on it. When I found the Caliber, I was thrilled! It's a beautiful red color with red insert seats, a sunroof, and 18-inch wheels. It handles great, drives smoothly, and I haven't had any problems with it. I bought it with only 8 miles on it, and now I have 429 miles. I can honestly say that I don't regret my choice at all!
-
Firstly, I wanted to share that I am a proud owner of a 2008 Limited Durango with only 15,000 miles and a 2010 Ram Laramie with only 4,000 miles. I absolutely love them both! Additionally, I previously owned a 2007 Caliber RT, which I traded in with 123,345 miles. I upgraded to the 2010 Caliber and I must say, the interior is a significant improvement. The CVT is also more refined and the soft door panels are a big plus.
-
I love this car! It has performed so well, and has been a joy to drive. I love the smoothness of the transition and the quietness of the cabin. It has been everything I wanted!

Hey there! Just wanted to let you know that I'm currently renting a brand new vehicle from Enterprise with less than 1000 miles on it while my primary daily driver is in the body shop. Unfortunately, my experience with Caliber hasn't been the best. Although the car looks alright, it seems to be poorly assembled. It's quite noisy, the gearbox is a bit lame, and there is even glue coming out of the shift lever. Additionally, I've noticed that the rear hatch requires a bit of force to close and the passenger door is slightly out of alignment. Just wanted to give you a heads up!

This car has had several issues since I purchased it. Firstly, there was a problem with rainwater coming through the sunroof. Despite Dodge's initial denial of the issue, I was able to find evidence of it online and eventually got it fixed after 3 months. Secondly, the check engine light kept coming on, but after some persistence, I was able to identify and fix the problem. Finally, the suspension system rusted out prematurely after 12 years and 98,000 miles. Fortunately, I was able to get it to the repair shop in time before any serious damage was done. Although I have had a difficult experience with this car, I am grateful that I was able to identify and fix the issues. While I would not purchase another Dodge Caliber, I hope that others can learn from my experience and make informed decisions when buying a car.
Trent Reichel 2024-06-27
My car has been experiencing several issues lately. It overheats frequently, emits a strong gas smell when the AC is on, and the steering wheel occasionally stops working. These problems have caused me some embarrassment, especially when DSL trucks pass me on the highway. However, I am confident that I can find a solution to these issues and get my car running smoothly again.

It's important to note that some Dodge Calibers have a problem with leaking. Unfortunately, Dodge is currently not offering a fix for this issue, and it's not being recalled. It's a shame that dealerships are aware of this problem and still sell them to unsuspecting customers. If you're considering purchasing a Dodge Caliber, it's best to avoid it, regardless of the year. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, as you may end up with water damage in various parts of the car, including the floors, seats, roof, and rearview mirror. These issues are common among Dodge Calibers.
Trenton Hoeger 2024-02-22
This car was purchased in February 2011. After 3 months of owning the vehicle, I noticed rust, paint chips, and a weird diamond pattern on the rear window. Additionally, the car began to run rough.
