Vehicle year: 2007
This car has been an amazing investment for my family. My parents bought it brand new in 2007 and I started driving it in 2011. Since then, we've put 142k miles on it with a good mix of highway and city miles, averaging about 27 mpg. It has been incredibly reliable and we haven't had to make any major repairs. The only minor repairs we've had to make were replacing the gas cap sensor at 140k, wheel realignment at 120k (tire wear had been normal until then), and minor brake repairs around 130k miles. Although there are a few cons, such as my head brushing against the ceiling of the car as a 6' tall adult, and having to tuck my head above the steering wheel to see stoplights, it's still a fantastic family and commuter car. Like any small car, it has a tendency to hydroplane when there is a significant amount of water on the roadway, and as I had the FWD model, it didn't handle too well on unplowed roads or on steep icy roads. However, it still managed to get me home during a few snow storms. All of these issues are what you would expect from a small FWD car. I also wanted to address some of the other reviews on here... The CVT transmission has never had an issue. It changes speed without delay and rarely makes any clunking noises. When it does, it has been a case where I had to slam on the brakes and immediately slam on the gas. As for acceleration, it holds up well if I'm the only person in the car. However, with 1-2 passengers, acceleration decreases noticeably. It's not great, but it has never inhibited my driving capabilities. Tire wear has been completely normal, and the struts, ball bearings, etc. have been inspected and still hold up fine. Overall, I can easily see myself buying a Dodge in the future, but for now, I plan to continue driving this car until the wheels fall off.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with the car's torque converter type transmission. At first, it was a bit of a challenge to get used to, especially after driving old school automatics and sticks. However, after driving the car for a while and learning the characteristics of the transmission, I have found that I can get really good fuel mileage and the smooth transition through the powerband is really impressive. Additionally, I live in a very hilly area with 8-9% grades, but the power is more than adequate and going downhill the transmission almost acts like a jake brake that the big rigs have. I also love the fact that the AWD is great for traction and handling. Lastly, I think the car looks like a

I bought my Caliber used in November 2009 with 32,000 miles. I am the second owner of the vehicle and have put over 20,000 miles on it. The Caliber has the interior space of a small SUV with compact car gas mileage. My 2.0 4-cylinder with CVT regularly averages 31 mpg per tank. Outside of routine maintenance, I have not had to do a thing to the car. The car rides comfortably, handles great, and with decent tires, it performs well in inclement weather. I chose the Caliber for its fuel economy, interior/cargo space, unique styling, and price (mine was under 10k). I test drove many vehicles in its class (Cobalt, Versa, Matrix, Fit) and the Caliber won out in most categories for me.

I purchased a new caliber on Sunday, but unfortunately it broke down on the first Thursday. After having it towed to the dealer, they informed me that it was a battery issue. They charged the battery and assured me that it was fixed, so I picked it up on Friday. However, the car died again when I drove it to the store on Monday. Frustrated, I took it back to the dealer, but they were unable to find any issues. Despite this setback, I am confident that we can work together to find a solution to this problem.

It's wonderful to hear that you're enjoying your family car! It's especially impressive to hear that it handles so well in the snow. I used to own a Ford Escape 4x4 myself, but it sounds like this car is even better at maneuvering and maintaining traction.

I have had the opportunity to drive the Caliber. While it may not be the best car on the market, it is certainly an improvement from the cars made in the 1980s. However, it may not be the best option for those who enjoy driving. If you are looking for a decent commuter car for highway driving, it could be a good choice, especially if you can get a good deal. If you are interested in other options, my personal favorite affordable hatches are the Hyundai Elantra Touring and the Mazda 3. They are both great cars that you may want to consider.

My 2007 SXT with the CVT transmission is a great 30mpg car, despite the blind spots.

I owned the vehicle for three years and during that time, I had to replace several parts including temperature sensors, struts, and the oil dipstick. Unfortunately, the transmission oil was quite expensive and only the dealership was willing to work on it. The acceleration was poor and driving the car was quite boring. Although I tried to maintain a positive attitude about the car, I now realize how mistaken I was in choosing it. After switching to a Honda, I can see how much better it is. Based on my experience with this car, I have decided to avoid Dodge and other American car brands. Additionally, the gas consumption was quite high for a 2.0 engine, which was disappointing.
