The Dodge Caliber is a compact hatchback manufactured and marketed by Chrysler's Dodge division from the 2007 through 2012 model years, replacing the Dodge Neon and Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Following the Caliber concept, which debuted at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show, the pre-production version debuted at the 2006 North American International Auto Show, with a market launch in March 2006.

The Caliber was manufactured at the Belvidere Assembly (Illinois) plant, and across its six-year model run, just over 400,000 were produced.

Latest negative Dodge Caliber car reviews

  1. Keanu Bernhard 2025-02-19

    Vehicle year: 2011

The Dodge Caliber Heat is a great car with excellent handling and fantastic brakes. Although it lacks power, it is comfortable to ride and has a nice suspension. Despite some wind noise, the car is still a great choice. The dealer has had to reattach shielding inside both front wheel wells three times so far, but it is still loose. In terms of mileage, my CVT transmission and 2.0 motor are not performing as well as I had hoped. Despite driving mostly on the highway, my Dodge Caliber Heat is only averaging 21 MPG. However, I am confident that with some adjustments, this car can perform even better.

  2. Ryleigh Paucek 2025-02-17

    Vehicle year: 2007

I purchased my '07 Caliber SXT 2.0 CVT (Not 1.8 Manual) in April 2011 from a Chrysler/Dodge dealership with 74K miles on it. It was a great car at first, drove great, sounded great, and felt great. However, after about a year, I started experiencing some issues. The door panels began to rattle, which may have been due to the powerful sound system, but that's no excuse. If you're going to install a powerful system, the car should be equipped to handle it. Additionally, it started to jerk and putter a bit when I accelerated and made a moaning noise when I turned the wheel. Unfortunately, the alternator went out at 91K miles, and 6 days later, the fuel pump went out. I'm now waiting to see what's next. If you're in the market for a car, I would recommend considering a Japanese model.

  3. Jerrell Shields 2025-02-13

    Vehicle year: 2007

I purchased the car used four months ago and it ran smoothly until a week ago when the voltage light illuminated. Despite testing the battery and alternator, the issue persisted. Three days later, the throttle response light came on and the car had to be towed. Upon inspection, the garage reported that the top half of the motor was burnt up and the oil was tacky (although I question this as I only used oil). As a result, I had to purchase another car, which is disappointing as I had grown fond of the previous one. However, I am confident in my decision to move on from the previous car and find a more reliable vehicle.

Hey there! Just wanted to let you know that I'm currently renting a brand new vehicle from Enterprise with less than 1000 miles on it while my primary daily driver is in the body shop. Unfortunately, my experience with Caliber hasn't been the best. Although the car looks alright, it seems to be poorly assembled. It's quite noisy, the gearbox is a bit lame, and there is even glue coming out of the shift lever. Additionally, I've noticed that the rear hatch requires a bit of force to close and the passenger door is slightly out of alignment. Just wanted to give you a heads up!

  5. Kevon Schmidt 2024-11-13

    Vehicle year: 2008

This car excels at providing reliability and room for our newborn. The CVT is very smooth, which is great for a sleeping baby. However, it has a slow throttle response time, especially noticeable when pulling out into traffic. Additionally, it has bad blind spots and makes a drumming noise when you roll down a back window going over 30 mph. Despite these drawbacks, the 2.0l engine and CVT provide a solid driving experience.

I love my new R/T Caliber! The Sirius satellite radio is amazing, I don't think I could ever be without it. The garage door opener programmed right into the car is such a great feature, no more searching for the remote! I'm really excited to start using the U Connect feature once I get my new Bluetooth capable cell phone. Although, I'm still looking for help on programming it since there's nothing in the owner's manual. We'll see how that goes!

I received my 2008 Caliber SXT on May 24th, 2008. I had to order it to get the 1.8L/5-Sp Manual configuration, which I was really excited about. The black paint looks amazing! I absolutely love this car. The ride and handling are great, and the 17

  3. Kenny Osinski 2025-02-13

    Vehicle year: 2011

I've been the proud owner of this car for about three years now and so far, it has not given me any problems. However, being a daily commuter and standing at 6 feet tall, I expected more legroom in this small car. The road noise can be a bit much, but I found that installing Michelin Defenders helped reduce it to an acceptable level. The rear hatch is modest in size, so you may need to get creative with your grocery placement if you plan on doing a full day's shopping with the rear seats up. On the bright side, I love the 120-volt outlet in the middle console for utility purposes. I upgraded to 225mm Michelin width tires all around the car and it now handles like a dream, especially in rain and snow. Although the mileage took a hit, it was worth the trade-off for me. My only complaint about this vehicle is that the mileage is somewhat unacceptable for its size and weight. However, I have had no other problems with it so far. It's worth noting that the car's mileage is affected by the heat of the outdoors, and it gets much better mileage when it's cold. *Update 3 years from review above: I average 29mpg on summer blend gas with the tire pressure running 34psi around all tires. I notice on winter blend the gas mileage goes back to 26.5->27i'sh for some reason. I also had a temporary issue with the throttle body indicator light coming on the instrument panel and running rough after changing the battery. This was resolved after I removed the battery again (terminals) and let the capacitors empty out and the EPROM reset while pressing the gas pedal to the floor all the way up and down to teach the computer the limits of the throttle. This solved the rough idle issue and made the warning light go out...after reconnecting the battery.I've found that keeping the tire pressure at around 35psi and keeping the RPM below 3500 helps the car average almost 30 miles per gallon. As of 2018, the car has been running without any problems and has reached 68976 miles. I'm considering getting a Dodge Avenger since it has the same 2.0 liter motor which has proven to be dependable. I'd like to mention that the 2011 Caliber runs much better after I installed new NKG spark plugs with fancy tips on them. The Caliber has the same motor as the dependable Dodge Neon - a 2.0L steel timing chain equip motor (not belt) which makes this car much more dependable.

    Vehicle year: 2010

I purchased my 2009 Dodge Caliper SXT in the winter of 2017 and have loved it ever since. Although there were a couple of stains on the interior, they were not too bad. The interior could be more comfortable, but that's just a minor issue. The biggest problem I faced was with the transmission (keep reading). During a trip to Saginaw, MI, about 40 minutes into driving, my transmission overheated and the trip became horrible. I thought I was in trouble, but then I talked to a friend who was great. I bought a transmission cooler for about $37 on eBay and new transmission fluid, and my buddy did all of this for me, which cost around $450. I ended up driving to Lansing, which is about an hour and 30 minutes away, and it worked great! I had absolutely no issues there or back. I was so happy, and I recently took a trip to Sandusky, Ohio (a 2 hour and 30 minute drive), and again, there were no problems. If you have the same issue, please give this a try. It worked wonders for me, and I have seen nothing online about this 'fix.' Currently, my car has 124,000 miles on it, and this happened around 121,000.

I'm glad to hear that you've already driven 1000 miles on your new Caliber! It's great to know that you're averaging 30 mpg combined and that you find it very quiet and comfortable. I understand that it may take some time to get used to the day running lights, but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it soon.
