2009 Chrysler Sebring problems
The Chrysler Sebring (/ˈsiːbrɪŋ/ SEE-bring) is a line of mid-size automobiles that was sold from 1995 through 2010 by Chrysler. Three generations of convertibles, two generations of sedans, and two generations of coupes were produced. Although the coupe shared the same name and some styling cues, it was mechanically unrelated to the other Sebring models.
The Sebring line was introduced in 1995 with the Chrysler Sebring coupe. It was the replacement for the Chrysler LeBaron coupe. In 1996 the convertible was introduced, replacing its LeBaron counterpart as well. For 2001, both body styles were redesigned and a sedan version was offered, replacing the Chrysler Cirrus. The coupe was discontinued after 2005 with no replacement model planned.
The redesigned sedan was introduced for 2007, and a convertible the following year. New options included all-wheel drive on sedans and an available retractable metal top for the convertible. All Sebring models were replaced by the Chrysler 200 for the 2011 model year.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2009 Chrysler Sebring.

- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER:STORAGE:FUEL GAUGE SYSTEM
- Summary: CHRYSLER IS RECALLING 91 MY 2009 SEBRING AND DODGE AVENGER EQUIPPED WITH 2.4L ENGINE PASSENGER VEHICLES. A COMPATIBILITY ISSUE BETWEEN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SOFTWARE AND FUEL PUMP MODULE CAN RESULT IN THE FUEL GAUGE OVERSTATING THE ACTUAL FUEL TANK LEVEL. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE MAY RUN OUT OF FUEL WHEN THE GAUGE INDICATES THAT THERE IS STILL FUEL REMAINING IN THE TANK.
- Consequence: THIS COULD CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP MODULE FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING MARCH 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

- Summary: CHRYSLER IS RECALLING 712 MY 2009 SEBRING, DODGE CALIBER, AVENGER, JOURNEY, JEEP PATRIOT, AND COMPASS VEHICLES. A NEW ADHESIVE USED IN THE POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) MANUFACTURING PROCESS CAN CAUSE THE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD TO BREAK.
- Consequence: THIS CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL AND CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.

I had a 2007 Sebring and unfortunately got carjacked. Despite the unfortunate incident, I have to say that I absolutely loved my Sebring. It never gave me any trouble and I even drove it all the way to Reno at 90 miles per hour, tackling those steep hills with ease. The car has some serious power and drives like a Cadillac! The only minor issue I encountered was that driving with the windows down caused a helicopter-like sound due to the wind and aerodynamics, as explained in the owner's manual. However, driving with the windows up solved the problem. I loved my Sebring so much that I ended up buying a 2008 model in a beautiful maroon color. It's a fantastic sporty family car that makes me feel very safe. I'm so happy to have found a car that I will continue to buy!

We are so glad to hear that you have been getting such great fuel economy! It's fantastic that you've been getting 34-37 MPG on the highway and around 28 MPG combined. Additionally, we're happy to hear that you find the car very comfortable to drive.

The ride is great, although it lacks a little power. The looks are grand and it's definitely a head-turner. If you don't want a lot of attention, this might not be the car for you. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the fuel mileage. The sticker said 28 on the highway, but we're actually getting better than 30. Overall, we just love driving it - with the top up or down (although we prefer down)!

It's wonderful to hear that the car has been comfortable, reliable, and fun to drive. The convertible seems to have plenty of room for four adults, and the trunk is spacious too. I'm happy to hear that the radio and CD changer work well and provide excellent sound quality. Before purchasing this car, you had a Toyota convertible with a larger engine that was faster, but it seems like the Sebring convertible is just as good in all other respects. Plus, you saved a whopping $12,000, which is a great buffer for any potential reliability issues. We recently purchased the 09 Sebring Sedan, Limited, which comes with all the available options. Contrary to Edmund's review, we found this car to be beautiful both inside and out. The seats are made of soft leather and we couldn't find anything that looks cheap or of poor quality. We have received several compliments on the style and accessories. Before making this purchase, we test drove six other cars, but the Sebring was by far the most fun and best looking. It reminds me of a grown-up Crossfire. The sound system is fantastic and the GPS, radio, CD, and telephone are all operated from a touch screen, which is easy to learn. The V6 is responsive and fast enough, although the gas mileage isn't as good as the Ford Focus. Overall, we are pleased with the car and its performance, and we highly recommend it.

I bought my car in June 2007. Unfortunately, two weeks after purchasing it, the automatic top got stuck in the up position and I couldn't drive it. I had to put it on a flatbed and have it towed, which was quite frustrating. To make matters worse, the exact same thing happened two months later, and I had to get it towed again, in the rain! Since then, I've had two recalls on the relay switch for the same problem. While I love the way the car looks, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. During this past year, I haven't been able to really enjoy the vehicle, since every time I put the top down, I close my eyes and have to pray that it doesn't get stuck again. Additionally, it does a lot of sputtering, and I've never been able to find the problem. I hope this helps!

This car has a good interior, but it's not a super-fast car. It can't go from 0 to 100 in the blink of an eye. I own one and I like it. The speakers are loud, so you don't have to replace them. The braking is good, and the acceleration is OK. Overall, I would give this car a 6.8 out of 10.

As loyal Chrysler buyers, my wife and I were excited to purchase this vehicle due to its great styling and convertible feature. However, we have unfortunately experienced a number of issues with the car over the past 2 years, resulting in 12 trips to the repair shop. These issues have included brake lights coming on intermittently, starting getting stuck, front-end/steering noise, stuck door locks, stalling, recalls and interior fit issues. We are currently working with Chrysler assistance to resolve these issues and find a solution that works for us. Safety is our top priority and we believe that addressing the front-end problems is crucial for the safe operation of the vehicle. We are hopeful that we can come to a resolution that is fair and satisfactory for all parties involved.

I would not recommend purchasing this car due to its lack of power, loud road noise, and poor mileage. While the exterior may be visually appealing, the overall performance and functionality of the vehicle do not meet expectations.
