1997 Chrysler Sebring problems
The Chrysler Sebring (/ˈsiːbrɪŋ/ SEE-bring) is a line of mid-size automobiles that was sold from 1995 through 2010 by Chrysler. Three generations of convertibles, two generations of sedans, and two generations of coupes were produced. Although the coupe shared the same name and some styling cues, it was mechanically unrelated to the other Sebring models.
The Sebring line was introduced in 1995 with the Chrysler Sebring coupe. It was the replacement for the Chrysler LeBaron coupe. In 1996 the convertible was introduced, replacing its LeBaron counterpart as well. For 2001, both body styles were redesigned and a sedan version was offered, replacing the Chrysler Cirrus. The coupe was discontinued after 2005 with no replacement model planned.
The redesigned sedan was introduced for 2007, and a convertible the following year. New options included all-wheel drive on sedans and an available retractable metal top for the convertible. All Sebring models were replaced by the Chrysler 200 for the 2011 model year.

- Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:PARK/NEUTRAL START INTERLOCK SWITCH
- Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. THE ADJUSTMENT OF THE CABLE CONNECTING THE CONSOLE SHIFTER MECHANISM TO THE IGNITION KEY CAN CAUSE A TRAPPED KEY CONDITION WHICH CAN RESULT IN A LOW FORCE REQUIRED TO DEPRESS THE SHIFT BUTTON. A COMBINATION OF APPLYING A MIS-ADJUSTED RELEASE BUTTON WITH A LOW FORCE ATTEMPT TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK WITH THE KEY IN THE LOCKED POSITION, CAN BREAK THE CONNECTING PIN IN THE SHIFTER.
- Consequence: IF THIS HAPPENS, THE "IGNITION-PARK" INTERLOCK SYSTEM WILL BE NONFUNCTIONAL.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT FOR PROPER OPERATION OF THE SYSTEM. ANY VEHICLES THAT ARE NOT FUNCTIONAL AFTER THE INSPECTION WILL HAVE THE SHIFT MECHANISM AND CABLE REPLACED WITH A "SELF-ADJUSTING" DESIGN.

Yes, I drive for a living. I change the oil every three weeks and the transmission fluid once a year. Other than that, I haven't had any real problems. At this point, I don't think the car owes me anything. I'm just enjoying the bonus miles, and it's an absolute joy to drive!

You've had this car for quite a while and it seems like you haven't had too many issues with it. Although there have been a few recalls, it's great to hear that the dealer was able to take care of them for you. It's unfortunate that you had to deal with water accumulating under the carpet due to the threshold drain holes, especially since it wasn't covered under warranty and cost you a few hundred to strip and dry the interior.

I'm so glad to hear that you've had such a positive experience with your car! It's great to know that even after 85,000 miles, the Mitsu V6 is still running like a champ. Although it's a shame to hear that the Infinity CD player and a speaker failed, it's great to hear that you have no other complaints about the car. It's no surprise that people are still asking what kind of car it is after 5 years - it sounds like it looks and runs great! Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

This vehicle is really fun to drive and hugs the road at all speeds. It rides smoothly on the open highway, and shifting at high RPMs is both smooth and powerful. The convertible model looks smart, and by far the best design is the 1997 model. You'll have no problem selling this vehicle when the time is right.

I love the car! It has all the design elements lacking in most convertibles. Although I have had an unusual amount of service problems, such as a leaky top, electronic compass, oxygen sensor, etc., somehow it doesn't take away from the pleasure of driving it.

My title says it all... this car gives you a lot for a little price... but unfortunately, it comes with constant mechanical and electrical problems, including bad brakes. As a result, I have decided not to purchase a Chrysler again.

You're going to love driving this car! It's solid, reliable, and so much fun. Plus, even though it's a 2-door, it has plenty of room for passengers and a spacious trunk for all your gear.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it four years ago with 17,000 miles on it and have since put 50,000 more on it. I did have a small issue with the air conditioning pump at first, but since then, it's only required routine maintenance, brakes, and a new set of tires. The six cylinder engine gets around 30 mpg on the highway and about 24 in mixed driving. While it's not a performance car, it's definitely a capable cruiser. Thanks for listening!

The car's transmission requires a new replacement at 80,000 miles. Additionally, the top began to fall apart after only 2 and a half years, and the rear defrost stopped working after 4 years. Furthermore, the car is experiencing water leakage on the driver's side during heavy rainfall. These issues suggest poor craftsmanship and construction of the vehicle.

I really enjoy driving my car, especially since I added an air intake that bumped the bhp to 177. It always turns heads! However, I have had some issues with it and it seems like it's been in the shop every couple of months. The dealer even knows my cell phone number by heart! Unfortunately, the roof has always leaked and I've had to replace it along with the carpet. I've also had to replace four batteries in four years due to a slight leak and corrosion. Currently, I'm experiencing a rough idle, an oil warning light, a break warning light, roof leaks, and the interior panels are breaking down. While I don't expect cars to last forever, I'm definitely not planning on buying a new one.
