1998 Chrysler Sebring problems
The Chrysler Sebring (/ˈsiːbrɪŋ/ SEE-bring) is a line of mid-size automobiles that was sold from 1995 through 2010 by Chrysler. Three generations of convertibles, two generations of sedans, and two generations of coupes were produced. Although the coupe shared the same name and some styling cues, it was mechanically unrelated to the other Sebring models.
The Sebring line was introduced in 1995 with the Chrysler Sebring coupe. It was the replacement for the Chrysler LeBaron coupe. In 1996 the convertible was introduced, replacing its LeBaron counterpart as well. For 2001, both body styles were redesigned and a sedan version was offered, replacing the Chrysler Cirrus. The coupe was discontinued after 2005 with no replacement model planned.
The redesigned sedan was introduced for 2007, and a convertible the following year. New options included all-wheel drive on sedans and an available retractable metal top for the convertible. All Sebring models were replaced by the Chrysler 200 for the 2011 model year.

Common 1998 Chrysler Sebring problems
The Chrysler Sebring 1998 has been reported to have several common problems by its owners, including engine sludge issues, transmission problems, and unexpected quitting of the engine.
One of the most frequently reported problems is engine sludge, which can lead to engine failure. This issue is caused by the lack of regular oil changes or using low-quality oil, which can result in the buildup of sludge in the engine. The sludge can clog the engine's passages and prevent the oil from lubricating the engine's components, leading to engine failure. To avoid this problem, it is recommended to change the oil regularly and use high-quality oil.
Another common problem reported by Sebring 1998 owners is transmission problems. The automatic transmission may have shifting problems, which can result in rough shifting, slipping, or even complete transmission failure. This issue can be caused by several factors, including low transmission fluid levels, worn-out transmission components, or faulty solenoids. To prevent transmission problems, it is recommended to check the transmission fluid levels regularly and replace the transmission fluid as recommended by the manufacturer. Additionally, it is essential to have the transmission inspected and serviced regularly by a certified mechanic.
The Sebring 1998 has also been reported to have engine problems that can cause the engine to quit running unexpectedly. This issue can be caused by several factors, including faulty ignition coils, distributor problems, or engine sensors. To avoid this problem, it is recommended to have the engine inspected and serviced regularly by a certified mechanic. Additionally, it is essential to replace any faulty ignition coils, distributor components, or engine sensors as soon as possible to prevent engine failure.
In summary, the Chrysler Sebring 1998 has several common problems, including engine sludge, transmission problems, and unexpected quitting of the engine. To prevent these problems, it is essential to have the car inspected and serviced regularly by a certified mechanic, change the oil regularly using high-quality oil, check the transmission fluid levels regularly, and replace any faulty ignition coils, distributor components, or engine sensors as soon as possible. This car is simply perfect!!! I have had it for a year now. I have the 2.0l 4cyl. engine with a 5sp. This car is comfortable, looks great, completely reliable, great gas mileage, and fun to drive!!!

I'm so glad to hear that you had a great experience with your Sebring jxi convertible! It sounds like you've taken great care of it, and it's held up really well over the years. The convertible top sounds like it's been really easy to use, and I'm glad to hear that you haven't had any problems with it. The two-tone leather interior sounds really stylish, and it's great to hear that it still looks good after 3 1/2 years. It's also good to know that there's plenty of room in the trunk and back seats. It sounds like you've had a few minor issues with the car, but it's great that they've been relatively easy and inexpensive to fix. Overall, it sounds like you've got a great car on your hands!

If you're looking for a great used vehicle, you're in luck with a 1998 Chrysler Sebring Convertible. My father got me one for my 17th birthday and I absolutely love it!

This car performs exceptionally well all around. Despite being hit in the side by a large truck, it withstood the impact remarkably well.

The car has been a delightful surprise. Although I expected some road noise with a convertible, the ride has been superb, even after 134,000 miles. The gas mileage runs between 24-27, which is impressive. The OEM Michelin tires lasted for 60,000 miles, and I'm now on my third set. The back seat is not very spacious and is only suitable for small kids. The trunk is okay, but not very roomy. The battery placement (which I had to change once) is in the wheelwell on the front driver's side, which is a bit of an engineering screw-up. The stereo was clear and loud even with the top down. In conclusion, it has been a fun car to drive with the top down or up!

The dealership was great, but I found the car to be underpowered and the mileage unimpressive. The cornering was sluggish and I experienced some mechanical issues, such as a head gasket problem at around 60,000 miles. However, after some negotiation, Chrysler did provide a good-will adjustment. I also had to replace the outer tie rod ends at 65,000 miles, which was too soon. Unfortunately, there were no grease fittings on the original or replacement parts. Additionally, I had to replace the electrical window switches twice and the internal headlight aimer failed, which ended up illuminating the telephone wires. Unfortunately, it was not repairable and I had to purchase a new headlamp module for around $250. Lastly, I noticed that some of the interior panels had cracked and broken over time.

I've had fifteen flat tires since owning this vehicle -- other than that it's been a good car. The flat tires cause the car to be unsafe and undependable. I have heard of other owners with the same complaint. Have you experienced the same trouble? I would be interested in hearing from you.

Although I have experienced some issues with my car, I am confident in my ability to address them. I have had some trouble with the low profile tires causing the rims to bend, resulting in multiple flat tires and a blowout. Additionally, the ground clearance is not ideal and the brakes tend to squeal. The car also shakes and makes some noises, which I am working to resolve. While the front seats may be too small for some, they are comfortable for me as a smaller woman. I have noticed some buzzing and shaking in the speakers at higher volumes, and the horn can be difficult to blow. Overall, I am confident that with some adjustments and maintenance, my car will be in top shape. I appreciate the opportunity to address these issues and improve my driving experience.

I just bought it but I really enjoy driving this car. I hope it stands up to my expectations, but I think it will. Although the seats could be a bit more comfortable, I feel safer in it than I did in my Saturn and it is quieter and somewhat more comfortable. Overall, I really like this vehicle.

I will not be purchasing another American automobile or Mitsubishi due to the various issues I have experienced, including transmission problems, recalls, expensive tires and parts, as well as poor front end design and a large turning circle. In my experience, this car was underpowered and noisy.
