THE CAR STOPPED ONLY AFTER A COLLISION WITH THE UTILITY POLE. THE CAR WAS SMOKING IN THE BACK AND WAS STILL REVVING WHEN STOPPED. ACCORDING TO THE DRIVER, CAR WAS MOVING AT SPEED 60 MPH. NO FLOOR MATS WERE MISPLACED NEAR DRIVER PEDALS. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO GET HELP, AT WHICH POINT 911 CALL WAS MADE. DRIVER WAS TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO FAIRFAX HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM. DRIVER SUFFERED FRACTURED NOSE AND TEARS IN FACE THAT REQUIRED SURGICAL REPAIR AND SUTURES. EVENT REPORTED TO BMW NORTH AMERICA, 6-6-2017. MOST PEOPLE WILL TRY TO CONCLUDE THAT THIS WAS DRIVER ERROR. HOWEVER, VARIOUS MALFUNCTIONING SELF-ACCELERATION ISSUES WITH BMWS HAVE BEEN REPORTED ONLINE; INCLUDING E46 GENERATION BMWS, WHICH IS THE MODEL OF MY CAR. IN CASES WHERE THE PROBLEM WAS SUCCESSFULLY SOLVED (FOR BMWS), REPLACING EITHER THE VANOS SOLENOID SENSORS OR WHEEL SPEED SENSORS DID THE TRICK. IN UNSUCCESSFUL CASES, THE DRIVERS SIMPLY SOLD/REPLACED THE ENTIRE CAR BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIPS WERE UNABLE TO DETECT OR RECREATE THE ISSUE USING THE SOFTWARE AND TECHNIQUES THEY HAD.

- Summary: BMW IS RECALLING 200,000 MY 2006 3 SERIES SPORT SEAT, MY 2004-2006 5 SERIES STANDARD AND SPORT SEAT, AND MY 2004-2006 X3 PASSENGER VEHICLES. DEPENDING ON THE MANNER AND FREQUENCY OF THE FRONT PASSENGER'S ENTRY AND EXIT, SMALL CRACKS HAVE DEVELOPED IN THE MAT. IF THIS OCCURS, THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAGS, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE HEAD PROTECTION SYSTEM, WILL BE DEACTIVATED AND THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP AS WELL AS THE PASSENGER AIR BAG "ON-OFF" LAMP WILL BE ILLUMINATED.
- Consequence: IN THIS SITUATION THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY EVEN IF A SUFFICIENTLY SEVERE ACCIDENT WOULD OCCUR AND OCCUPANT PROTECTION PROVIDED BY THE SYSTEM WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REWORK THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR MAT SO THAT EXTERNAL FORCE APPLICATION TO THE SEAT DOES NOT CAUSE A CRACK TO THE MAT. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 6, 2008. BMW WILL ALSO EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON THESE VEHICLES TO 10 YEARS FROM FIRST REGISTRATION WITHOUT ANY MILEAGE LIMIT. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BMW AT 1-800-525-7417.

- Summary: CERTAIN AFTERMARKET BMW BIKE CARRIERS, P/N 82110393954, SOLD FOR USE ON MY 2005 BMW X3 AND X5 VEHICLES. A PINCH BOLT EXISTS BETWEEN THE BIKE ARM BRACKET AND THE UPRIGHT ASSEMBLY OF THE HITCH STYLE BICYCLE RACK.
- Consequence: WHEN MOVING THE BIKE ARM BRACKET TO ITS DOWN POSITION, THIS PINCH POINT HAS THE POTENTIAL OF CAUSING A SEVERE INJURY TO THE USER'S FINGER OR HAND.
- Remedy: BMW WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND PROVIDE A REPAIR KIT ALONG WITH REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 13, 2007. OWNERS CAN CONTACT BMW CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND SERVICES TOLL-FREE AT 800-831-1117.

We are a family of four living at 9000 feet in the Colorado Rockies. This vehicle is a powerhouse, with impressive top-end speed and cornering ability. It is incredibly sure-footed on ice and snow, and the hill descent control works wonders on steep and winding snow-packed roads. Despite having a relatively small cargo area, it can hold a surprising amount of stuff. The xenon lights are perfect for illuminating elk and deer along the road, and they can even peek around corners further than normal lights. It makes my 70-mile round trip to work every day through a winding canyon an absolute pleasure. I highly recommend this car for anyone living in the mountains. It has the body of an SUV and the soul of a sports car.

This is the first SUV I have ever owned, and I must say, I was not a fan of SUVs before, but I absolutely love this vehicle! The size is perfect, and it's incredibly easy to drive. It has the best handling and turning radius I have ever experienced in an SUV or truck. It drives like a small car, and while the ride is a little stiff, it's not unbearable - it's the same as any sports car. The interior layout is simple, elegant, and straightforward, with a good radio and great seats. I was pleasantly surprised by the gas mileage - I'm averaging about 18 after the break-in period, mostly city driving too. So far, the reliability has been great, and I can't imagine driving anything else!

The car's performance was impressive, however, there were some issues with the CD player and interior finishes. It is important to note that locking oneself out of the car can be a major inconvenience, as there is no way to open the doors without a key or being towed to the dealership for reprogramming. In fact, I had to break my own rear window to gain access to my car when I locked myself out. Despite these setbacks, the car's overall performance was still noteworthy.

The SUV looks great! The interior is tough and can handle some abuse. While the gas mileage may be a bit disappointing, it's not surprising given its excellent performance. The superior warranty makes maintenance easy, and the sound system is excellent. Unlike older BMWs, there are plenty of drink holders and good interior storage. Overall, it's a great choice!

We both had different preferences when it came to choosing a car. While I wanted a fun and spirited drive of a convertible sports sedan, she was looking for the height and all-wheel drive of an SUV. Fortunately, the BMW X3 exceeded both our expectations. It not only has the driving qualities second only to that of the BMW and Audi sports sedans, but it also has the added versatility of a deceivingly large cargo space and an excellent all-wheel drive system. Moreover, the panoramic sunroof gives it a convertible-like feel. It's hard to find a more versatile vehicle that ticks all the boxes. Additionally, the interior build quality has been improved in the 2004 and 2005 models, making it an even better value.

The window regulator on the back seats passenger side always seemed to break down, and oil leaks from the gaskets were a frequent issue. Additionally, the drive by wire system caused some acceleration and responsiveness problems, and the muffler resonator had some issues too. Despite all of this, I'm amazed at how I was able to keep the car for more than 11 years!

My vehicle has unfortunately been in the shop for over 30 days since I leased it at the end of August 05, with less than 12,000 miles. Despite multiple repairs, including the replacement of the belt tensioner and pulley (twice), parking brake repair, mold in the A/C system at 8000 miles, transmission reprogramming, failing key FOBs, hatch out of alignment, various rattles, sunroof malfunctioning, dash going black while driving, and airbag mat replacement, the service department is still trying to figure out what's wrong with it. As a confident driver, I expect my vehicle to perform at its best, and I am disappointed with the hefty price tag for such a headache.
