Common Chrysler Pacifica problems
The Chrysler Pacifica is a popular minivan, but like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems that owners have reported. These issues range from electrical and engine problems to transmission and paint concerns.
One of the most reported problems with the Chrysler Pacifica is its faulty paint, which bubbles and prematurely peels off, exposing metal surfaces. This issue is particularly prevalent in the 2017 model year, and it can lead to rusting and further damage to the vehicle's exterior.
Another common problem with the Pacifica is its transmission. Cruise control defects, transmission problems, and carbon buildup are all issues that have been reported by owners.
In addition to these issues, the Chrysler Pacifica has also been known to have problems with its steering, suspension, and body/paint. Some owners have had to replace the nine-speed automatic gearbox, which can start to run jerky and dry before finally breaking down. The sliding doors can also open or close unexpectedly, which can be a safety concern.
Recalls have also been a problem for the Chrysler Pacifica. There are over twenty recalls for the Pacifica, with one affecting all model years (2017 to 2023) of the Pacifica hybrid. A wiring connector inside the transmission could short-circuit in some cases, resulting in a loss of power. The vast majority of recalls concern early-generation Pacifica models (2017 and 2018), hybrid or otherwise. These often affect only a small number of units, but they can still be a cause for concern for Pacifica owners.
In conclusion, while the Chrysler Pacifica is a popular and well-designed minivan, it has its share of common problems that owners have reported. These issues range from paint and transmission problems to electrical and safety concerns. It's worth noting that many of these issues have been reported in earlier model years, and that more recent models may have addressed some of these concerns. However, potential buyers should still be aware of these issues and do their due diligence before purchasing a Chrysler Pacifica.
What problems does the Chrysler Pacifica have?
On the other hand, the Pacifica has experienced problems with its steering, transmission and suspension. Some owners have had to replace the nine-speed automatic gearbox, which can start to run jerky and dry before finally breaking down. Like many others, the Pacifica is not immune to electronic glitches.
What years to avoid on Chrysler Pacifica?
The Pacifica has 2 generations, each with their own issues. Using the same PainRank™ system we've determined that you're better off avoiding the 1st generation (2004–2008).
Are Chrysler Pacificas reliable?
The Chrysler Pacifica minivan has above-average reliability scores on RepairPal with a 3.5 out of 5, but its annual repair cost is pricey. Cruise control defects, paint peeling and rusting, and transmission problems are notable common problems for the Pacifica minivan.
How many miles will a Chrysler Pacifica last?
150,000 to 200,000 miles
On average, a well-maintained Chrysler Pacifica for sale can be expected to last anywhere from 150,000 to 200,000 miles or more. This translates to about 10 to 15 years of use. However, it's important to note that these are just estimates, and individual experiences may vary.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-27
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-25
- VIN: 2C4RC1N74NR
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The vehicle is equipped with multizone AC, and one day the REAR passenger AC system malfunctioned. This occurred during the heatwave period this summer. The AC would not turn off, after multiple attempts, neither through the infotainment screen nor the manual buttons. We tried all possible ways to turn it off and it would not. Furthermore, it was automatically set to high heat, and the temperature also could not be changed. It is available for inspection if needed. Our [XXX] child was the rear seat occupant at the time, and was on the verge of overheating. We took the vehicle to the dealership, explained the issue in detail, and also showed them the clear video evidence of the problem. Because the issue was intermittent, they did not inspect it nor repaired it because it was working fine in their possession. Manufacturer was also notified of the issue, and repeated the same dialogue as the dealer, which is, that they can not resolve it if they can not reproduce it. There were no warning codes, lights, or messages for this issue. After receiving the vehicle back from the dealer, unrepaired, the problem happened again the same day. It is now back at another dealer hoping to be repaired and the issue diagnosed/reproduced. This is making us very nervous if it happens again, during a freeway drive or a long road trip, our road safety and children's health is at risk. The dealership and manufacturer have not demonstrated urgency for this matter, and treat it as any other "intermittent" issue. They advised us to bring it back if it occurs again. Should we really be testing these diagnostics on the road with our children's safety or comfort at stake? Thank you for giving us the opportunity to bring this matter to your attention. She was shifting from Park to Drive just after our children got out of the vehicle in the school parking lot when the whole vehicle froze up and the dashboard lite up with all error lights including the engine light. The vehicle could not be powered off and it could not be shifted out of gear and the parking brake could not be disengaged. The tow truck had to drag our Pacifica onto the flatbed while it continued to turn on and off and cycle through the engine and hybrid system. This vehicle has 36,000 miles and just had the transmission replaced under the "Recall for hybrid transmission systems" This is the second time this has happened, it originally occurred at 7000 miles and after the dealer had it for a week we were told there was no problem. The dealer had to pull a bunch of fuses and the 12v battery to get the vehicle to stop turning off and on, the same thing happened this time when it was dragged off the flatbed at the dealer.

I previously paid to install a level 2 charger in my home, which I am unable to use. Additionally a concerning electrical noise has started to occur when starting the car or long after turning the car off. We had an amazing experience with our new Pacifica! We drove over 800 miles up and back to Vermont the day after we picked it up, and it handled the snow and uneven terrain like an SUV. We were also pleased with the mileage, considering the size of the vehicle. The climate control system is a real plus, especially for older folks. Although the front seats are a bit hard, they are good on the back and don't pull on the sciatic nerve. The front row has lots of space for bags, cups, keys, and everything else, which is hard to come by. The vehicle has excellent storage throughout, and the fold-and-go seats are a dream. We're very happy with our purchase and would like to recommend Route #1 DodgeJeepChrysler to everyone for their efforts to make this deal a good one.

Just purchased a new 2007 Pacifica and it drives like a car, but feels like you're sitting in a studio condo! The gas mileage is average for this vehicle, but the 250 HP engine more than makes up for it. We've taken our Pacifica to Canada and back on many occasions, and it's always been a comfy ride. It's very spacious, and my son loves it! If you live in a snowy area, I would definitely recommend the AWD touring edition. :)

Vehicle year: 2020
I purchased this vehicle in March 2020 and have driven 9000 miles since then. It has been an absolute pleasure to drive on the road, as it is both comfortable and spacious. The gas mileage is impressive, with an actual average of over 32 miles per gallon. If you charge the battery pack when parked, the gas mileage is even better. The Advanced Safety Tech package is a great addition, as it includes dual entertainment screens in the back of the front seats and a variety of safety features. I highly recommend purchasing this package for an additional $995. The vehicle's performance is superior to the gas model, with smoother shifting and better driving. The third row seats are Stow and Go, which allows for more storage space as they can be stored under the floor. When purchasing new, be sure to check the tax incentives, as there is a federal incentive of at least $7500 and some states offer additional incentives (Texas - $2500). Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase so far.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed reading about your experience with your Pacifica. It sounds like you've had a lot of great adventures in it! I'm glad to hear that it's been reliable and low-maintenance for you. It's always nice to have a car that you can count on. I can definitely understand your frustration with the blind spot and the noise when the windows are down. Those can be annoying issues to deal with. Overall, though, it sounds like you're really happy with your Pacifica. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me!

We are thrilled with our Pacifica Hybrid, which has already clocked up 1000 miles. The combination of space, fuel efficiency, and safety features make it a top choice. We were looking for a car with more space than our old hatchback but didn't want a gas-guzzling SUV. The Pacifica Hybrid is perfect as we can plug it in every night, making our daily errands almost completely gas-free, with no range anxiety when we need to go on a longer trip. We were pleasantly surprised by all the standard safety features, which are essential when hauling people around. The blind spot monitoring and collision avoidance are implemented well and are not too intrusive. We really like the styling of the Pacifica, which avoids looking boxy and dull or trying too hard to avoid looking like a boring minivan. Our only minor complaints are that the interior is just okay, and we were expecting a few more cubbies and cupholders, especially in the rear seats. However, the Pacifica has tons of space and lots of thoughtful features, such as grocery bag hooks in the trunk area. We've owned other hybrids and an electric car, and while the dashboard on the Pacifica is not as well done as competitors', these are all minor complaints, especially when we are driving around getting 55+ mpg in a whisper quiet cabin. We're really looking forward to the start of summer vacation season!

We purchased this van almost a year ago. Although the size and comfort are comparable to the Yukon we had before, we have had some issues with the technology components. The auto sliding door requires multiple attempts to latch properly, the radio has frozen for days on end, the auto start feature has stopped working, and the climate control screen froze during winter, leaving us without heat for two days. When we took it to the dealer, they were unable to recreate the problems, so they did not fix anything or replace any parts. While the Pacifica may be cheaper, it depreciates by $15k in the first six months. If you are in the market for a van, there may be better options available.

I purchased this vehicle brand new in October 2020 and unfortunately, I noticed that it was overheating shortly after. I took it to the dealer and they discovered a manufacturing defect in both the radiator and AC condenser, which was causing small leaks. Thankfully, the dealer replaced both under warranty. However, I then experienced issues with the auto on/off feature failing randomly with the warning light coming on several times a week. Despite taking it back to the dealer, they were unable to duplicate the problem. The next issue was with the transmission. After approximately 8 months of ownership (8000 miles), the transmission began shifting hard and a service shifter notification would sometimes display. The shifting quickly grew much harsher, so I took it back to the dealer. Although they checked the TCM and stated they could not duplicate the issue, there was an error code for the TCM losing communication. During the trip home, the transmission was shifting extremely hard and actually completely disengaged for about 5 seconds. As a result, I became concerned for the safety of my family and no longer trusted the vehicle. Although I still had plenty of warranty left, I was growing tired of continued trips to the dealer and their inability to fix the van's issues. I made the decision to trade it in on a new 2021 Sienna and thankfully, the used car market is crazy so the trade-in value ended up being the same as the purchase price when I bought it. Despite the reliability issues, I must say that the van was comfortable and the stow and go seats were extremely convenient for my family.

I really wanted to love my minivan because of its great features and look. However, I have had a lot of issues with it and I am disappointed with Chrysler. Unfortunately, we were not informed about the battery recall and I only found out about it online. Even though we had the car in the dealership several times, no one mentioned the recall. It was frustrating to have a hybrid car that we couldn't use as intended because of the recall. We have also had issues with the gas tank sensor for the last ten months, and despite several attempts to fix it, it is still broken. The gas tank button doesn't work either. It has been a difficult experience, but I am hopeful that Chrysler will eventually resolve these issues. Although I was offered a $250 gift card, it never arrived due to a glitch in the system. I am still waiting for it, but I am confident that Chrysler will eventually sort it out. Despite these issues, I believe that Chrysler has great potential and I hope that they will improve their customer service in the future.I recently received a letter in the mail about the February recall and learned that there was a fix available. If I had not found the article myself, I would have been driving around this entire time never knowing that my battery was at risk of fire. I really like the look of this car and I hoped it would be a vehicle that lasted us through the years. Unfortunately, it has been nothing but trouble.

I purchased a 38k model in 2005 and unfortunately experienced some issues on my way home. The accelerator began to surge and fail, making it unsafe to continue driving. I contacted carmax and they were very understanding and accommodating, allowing me to return the car that same night. They provided me with a loaner, a 7-year-old Celica, which was not in the best condition but it got me where I needed to go. The dealership management initially insisted that I honor the service agreement we had purchased the day before, but after a week of discussions, the newly promoted President of the dealership offered me an equally valued replacement. Overall, I appreciate the customer service provided by carmax and the dealership's willingness to work with me to find a solution.
