Common Chrysler Pacifica problems
The Chrysler Pacifica is a popular minivan, but like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems that owners have reported. These issues range from electrical and engine problems to transmission and paint concerns.
One of the most reported problems with the Chrysler Pacifica is its faulty paint, which bubbles and prematurely peels off, exposing metal surfaces. This issue is particularly prevalent in the 2017 model year, and it can lead to rusting and further damage to the vehicle's exterior.
Another common problem with the Pacifica is its transmission. Cruise control defects, transmission problems, and carbon buildup are all issues that have been reported by owners.
In addition to these issues, the Chrysler Pacifica has also been known to have problems with its steering, suspension, and body/paint. Some owners have had to replace the nine-speed automatic gearbox, which can start to run jerky and dry before finally breaking down. The sliding doors can also open or close unexpectedly, which can be a safety concern.
Recalls have also been a problem for the Chrysler Pacifica. There are over twenty recalls for the Pacifica, with one affecting all model years (2017 to 2023) of the Pacifica hybrid. A wiring connector inside the transmission could short-circuit in some cases, resulting in a loss of power. The vast majority of recalls concern early-generation Pacifica models (2017 and 2018), hybrid or otherwise. These often affect only a small number of units, but they can still be a cause for concern for Pacifica owners.
In conclusion, while the Chrysler Pacifica is a popular and well-designed minivan, it has its share of common problems that owners have reported. These issues range from paint and transmission problems to electrical and safety concerns. It's worth noting that many of these issues have been reported in earlier model years, and that more recent models may have addressed some of these concerns. However, potential buyers should still be aware of these issues and do their due diligence before purchasing a Chrysler Pacifica.
What problems does the Chrysler Pacifica have?
On the other hand, the Pacifica has experienced problems with its steering, transmission and suspension. Some owners have had to replace the nine-speed automatic gearbox, which can start to run jerky and dry before finally breaking down. Like many others, the Pacifica is not immune to electronic glitches.
What years to avoid on Chrysler Pacifica?
The Pacifica has 2 generations, each with their own issues. Using the same PainRank™ system we've determined that you're better off avoiding the 1st generation (2004–2008).
Are Chrysler Pacificas reliable?
The Chrysler Pacifica minivan has above-average reliability scores on RepairPal with a 3.5 out of 5, but its annual repair cost is pricey. Cruise control defects, paint peeling and rusting, and transmission problems are notable common problems for the Pacifica minivan.
How many miles will a Chrysler Pacifica last?
150,000 to 200,000 miles
On average, a well-maintained Chrysler Pacifica for sale can be expected to last anywhere from 150,000 to 200,000 miles or more. This translates to about 10 to 15 years of use. However, it's important to note that these are just estimates, and individual experiences may vary.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-27
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-25
- VIN: 2C4RC1N74NR
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The vehicle is equipped with multizone AC, and one day the REAR passenger AC system malfunctioned. This occurred during the heatwave period this summer. The AC would not turn off, after multiple attempts, neither through the infotainment screen nor the manual buttons. We tried all possible ways to turn it off and it would not. Furthermore, it was automatically set to high heat, and the temperature also could not be changed. It is available for inspection if needed. Our [XXX] child was the rear seat occupant at the time, and was on the verge of overheating. We took the vehicle to the dealership, explained the issue in detail, and also showed them the clear video evidence of the problem. Because the issue was intermittent, they did not inspect it nor repaired it because it was working fine in their possession. Manufacturer was also notified of the issue, and repeated the same dialogue as the dealer, which is, that they can not resolve it if they can not reproduce it. There were no warning codes, lights, or messages for this issue. After receiving the vehicle back from the dealer, unrepaired, the problem happened again the same day. It is now back at another dealer hoping to be repaired and the issue diagnosed/reproduced. This is making us very nervous if it happens again, during a freeway drive or a long road trip, our road safety and children's health is at risk. The dealership and manufacturer have not demonstrated urgency for this matter, and treat it as any other "intermittent" issue. They advised us to bring it back if it occurs again. Should we really be testing these diagnostics on the road with our children's safety or comfort at stake? Thank you for giving us the opportunity to bring this matter to your attention. - Summary: My wife was driving driving the vehicle on October 21st, 2024. She was shifting from Park to Drive just after our children got out of the vehicle in the school parking lot when the whole vehicle froze up and the dashboard lite up with all error lights including the engine light. It was flashing "Service Hybrid Battery System", "Service Transmission", "Turn off parking brake" and the Vehicle began to power cycle on and off, then on with gas motor, then on with electric motor. The vehicle could not be powered off and it could not be shifted out of gear and the parking brake could not be disengaged. The tow truck had to drag our Pacifica onto the flatbed while it continued to turn on and off and cycle through the engine and hybrid system. This vehicle has 36,000 miles and just had the transmission replaced under the "Recall for hybrid transmission systems" This is the second time this has happened, it originally occurred at 7000 miles and after the dealer had it for a week we were told there was no problem. The dealer had to pull a bunch of fuses and the 12v battery to get the vehicle to stop turning off and on, the same thing happened this time when it was dragged off the flatbed at the dealer.

I am unable to park my car by my house due to the fire risk, which has required me to buy monthly parking passes. I am unable to charge my car, which has caused increased gas costs. I previously paid to install a level 2 charger in my home, which I am unable to use. Additionally a concerning electrical noise has started to occur when starting the car or long after turning the car off. I am continually anxious about driving this car with my children, but I have no other choice to continually put all of us at risk. I own two Chryslers; one pacifica and one pt cruiser. I adore my pacifica so much. When we heard they weren't making them anymore we turned in our 2006 model for an upgraded Touring 2008. I can't even compare the two cars because they are so different. This is definitely my favorite car i have ever owned and love the comfort and feeling of safety traveling with my family. i hope it lasts forever, or they decide to start making them again. I wish both my cars were pacificas.

Your wife has driven three of these vehicles: a 2004, a 2006, and now the 2008 Touring W P Chrysler Edition. This car is one of the safest vehicles on the road and is built like a tank with Mercedes technology. Your wife was rear-ended (at high speed) in a multiple car pile-up on the freeway just five months after getting the car, and then hit a second time. She walked away without a scratch or bruise, and the car survived quite well! It's a shame that they stopped building this car. We would have bought them forever! Maybe decisions like this are why Chrysler went bankrupt. This car was heavily influenced by Daimler and was the best product to come out of their influence.

First off, I never wanted and still do not want a minivan. That being said, this is the best option out there. The stow and go seating is the clincher. The ride is smooth and feels almost sporty. Tons of entertainment to keep the kids quiet. Opted for the additional speaker package which helps drown out the noise from the back. Alot of amenities. Some of the interior constructions seems haphazard. Interior roof seems flimsy, not alot of support. Do not see that as much of an issue though. Overall if you need to get a minivan, this is the one to go for.

We were looking for a vehicle that was reasonably priced and had updated safety/tech features, as well as room behind the 3rd row. Large SUVs were too expensive for us, so we narrowed our search down to minivans. After considering our options, we chose this one over the Odyssey because of its panoramic roof and smooth ride. We've been driving it for 9000 miles now and we love every minute of it. In fact, my wife prefers driving the van so much that I've inherited her Lexus GX!

Vehicle year: 2005
We purchased this vehicle brand new in 2005 and it has been a reliable companion ever since. With over 165,000 miles on the odometer, it is still going strong. I must admit, I was initially nervous about buying this car, but the engine and transmission have been flawless. The only weak spot has been the motor mounts, which we have had to replace four times, but it's a cheap fix. At 100,000 miles, we replaced the timing belt, struts, CV joints, and alternator due to a squeaky pulley. We also had to replace the entire exhaust system at 130,000 miles. Despite these minor issues, the car has been with us through our children's elementary, middle, and high school years, and has even helped us move them in and out of college. We even used it for a paper route for two years. We have definitely gotten our money's worth out of this car. We recently replaced the control arms as a preventative measure, and the only remaining issue is the engine subframe rust problem that is common in these cars. However, I have been applying coatings to the affected areas and keeping a close eye on the rust's progress. In my experience, with proper maintenance, any car can last a very long time, even a Chrysler. As of 09/28/2016, the Pacifica is still running strong with over 183,000 miles on the odometer. At around 165,000 miles, we decided to replace the o-rings between the engine timing cover and the cast iron block due to a small coolant leak from the water pump passages. Since this work involved much disassembly, we decided to replace spark plugs, fuel injectors, water pump, timing belt, intake manifold gaskets, valve cover gaskets, all hoses, and the radiator. Since this work was DIY, labor cost wasn't a factor, and the cost of the parts was only around $800. We also needed to replace a rusty front subframe this year in order to pass Pennsylvania's safety inspection. We were able to buy a rust-free subframe from salvage in GA. The total cost for replacement, including our mechanic's installation of 4 hours, was right around $1000.With replacement vehicles of similar size and features costing over $30,000, we believe that the repairs were definitely worth the money spent. We are hoping to enjoy a few more years of ownership. Update 9/28/2017: I am happy to report that my car has just gone over 200k and is still rolling with the original engine and transmission. The car is running great, but I do expect some upcoming maintenance on CV axles and possibly front bearings. Something is making noise, and it doesn't seem to be the tires. Nothing is holding us back, we are still taking long trips, but keeping a watchful eye on these maintenance items.

I spent 2 years researching the Pacifica before purchasing it in 2007. Currently, it has only 52,000 miles, which is well below the national average. Unfortunately, I have had to replace tie rod ends approximately every 10,000 miles, with a total of 7 replacements in just 45,000 miles. Additionally, I have experienced a coolant leak and a front-end shake since replacing the tires, one of which was bulged and needed to be replaced. The dash lights have also burnt out and require replacement. Thankfully, I had purchased a 7-year/70,000-mile warranty with a $100 deductible, which has been a lifesaver. Although the warranty is up in June, I am still considering my options and may look into a Ford or Chevy. Thank you for your understanding.

I appreciate the beauty, comfort, and feel of the van, as well as its perfect floor plan and seating arrangement. However, the rough shifting of the transmission in lower gears can make driving around town a less than smooth experience. Despite multiple visits to the dealership, the master mechanic has informed me that this is simply how the ZF 9 speed transmission behaves. I am eagerly awaiting a software update that will smooth out the slower speed shifting, at which point I am confident that this will be the best vehicle ever.

As an experienced car owner with a wide range of vehicles, I can confidently say that my Pacifica has been a disappointment. Despite my initial hopes that it would be the perfect balance of family and client transportation, towing ability, and fuel efficiency, it has proven to be unreliable. In just a few thousand miles, I have already had to replace both motor mounts and the driver's seat, and have experienced the well-known creak in the front end. Additionally, the fuel mileage has been worse than expected at 15.4 mpg. These issues have left me feeling frustrated and dissatisfied with my purchase.

I have been experiencing some issues with my minivan, and despite my efforts to get a new one, I have not been successful. I have been waiting for a software update for six months now, but unfortunately, it has not been released yet. I have had to take the car to the shop seven times due to various issues such as trunk failure, uconnect problems, AC control problems, back up camera failure, steering wheel lights/controls failure, and radio control issues. I am disappointed that the car has had so many problems, and I believe it should have been classified as a lemon. I am documenting all the issues and will continue to work with FCA to resolve them. I have advised my friends not to purchase this minivan, but I hope that FCA will do the right thing and refund the lemons. Although the car is covered under warranty, it is still highly inconvenient to keep taking it to the shop and trade our car seats. It is especially stressful for me as my husband is deployed. I would give the van zero stars if I could, but I would love it if it worked.

Hello, I recently purchased a 2021 Pacifica hybrid less than 30 days ago with only 206 miles on it. Unfortunately, I have noticed a chirping noise when driving over 30 mph, which is quite annoying. The dealership has acknowledged the noise, stating that they have 'verified that there is a small noise between 30 MPH and 60 MPH that is constant.' However, the Chrysler (FCA) field technician denies any abnormality, stating that 'there are no abnormal noises in this vehicle, and there is nothing out of normal parameters.' While I understand that some other Pacifica hybrids may make similar noises, it is important to note that not all 2021 hybrid Pacificas make this noise. For example, my relative purchased the same car in the Bay area in March 2021, and that car doesn't make the chirping noise. Additionally, I test drove another 2021 Pacifica hybrid at a different dealership where the car was not making the chirping noise. My car was in the Chrysler shop on day six from my purchase date at 56 miles odometer reading for ten days, but unfortunately, they were unable to resolve the issue. I strongly suggest an extended test drive before purchasing this car. I tried to return the vehicle on the third day at 56 miles when I realized that the noise is a fault and not a hybrid noise as to how the dealer sold it to me, but the dealer or FCA both refused. I am concerned about some mechanical or electrical issue developing, which nobody is able to detect at this point. If you are interested, I can share a video clip of the noise issue. Thank you for your understanding.Hey there! I understand your frustration with the noise in your brand new car. It's definitely not what you expected when you made such a big investment. Have you reached out to FCA about this issue? They may be able to help you out!
