  • VIN: 2A8GF78466R

  • Summary: Bought car from a private seller and wasn't informed of MASSIVE and UNSAFE DAMAGE TO ENGINE CRADLE. The engine cradle is nearly completely rotted out. Don't know if rust has eroded other parts until a mechanic can look extensively at the engine cradle. I have been trying salvage yards and 9 out of the 10 Pacifica's I have inquired about the engine cradle is rotted beyond repair. It has to be replaced. The fee for replacing and labor is going to be anywhere from $400 to $2500. and the vehicle has only 153÷k on it. This is a huge and reoccurring issue with the Chrysler Pacifica after I did research.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-05-01
  • VIN: 2A4GM48406R
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: I got in the car started it as usual, shifted it in (D), pulled out of my church parking lot, got about 5 miles away from my church stopped at a red light. The light turned green I accelerated as usual. At this light is a slight incline about 15% ways up the incline it just stopped pulling. I pressed the gas heat the engine Rev but no power to the wheels. So I shifted it in auto stick mode and it wouldn’t change out of second gear I left it on the highway for about 3 days.I went back trying to reset the trans by turning the switch on and holding the gas pedal for 30sec as seen in Chryslers forum and YouTube yet still no power had the car towed back to Alabama when I go to church in Tennessee which was about 50 miles away or so. Get it home after paying a huge towing bill. Because my insurance only covered like 15miles. I got it home try to shift it in R, D, and The Autostick. however, it finally started going back to 1st gear. Unfortunately it still wouldn’t pull. I’ve looked up the problem and there is a recall for this, However when I call Chrysler it doesn’t cover my vehicle

STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-08-04
  • VIN: 2A8GM68446R
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: A few weeks ago we took our car to a mechanic to have the brakes worked on as a part of routine maintenance. When we picked it up, he noted that when he had it up on the lift, he saw that the engine cradle was very badly rusted. He said that we shouldn't drive it anymore because of the risks involved. I tried to crawl under the car when we got home (there isn't a ton of clearance) but I saw what he was talking about. At that point we looked online and found hundreds and hundreds of similar experiences and complaints. We were left dumbfounded at the risks this introduces...thinking about what would happen if this mechanic hadn't noticed the issue and we'd been driving down the interstate with our kids when the thing decided to give way. And the fact that the manufacturer knows of this issue and has done nothing is beyond disgusting. Fortunately we found out from the mechanic, not from the engine falling out. Even still, this means that we're left with a worthless car. While our car is abandoned in the driveway hoping for Chrysler to right their wrong, we still see lots of similar vehicles on the road. I'm guessing that their owners don't know that they're driving death traps either. We had a 2008 Tacoma with similar frame rust issues and Toyota recalled it almost a decade after it was manufactured, and replaced the entire frame. Chrysler should have to do the same to repair their shoddy and negligent design, or at least compensate us for the complete loss of value so that we can have some money to put towards its replacement. I also think that this issue needs to be publicly noted for all similar model years. We'd purchased this from a Chrysler dealership, and had checked the Carfax and Consumer Reports before purchasing this vehicle, and none of them noted these issues even though the vehicle was a few years old at the time. Vehicle has been repaired.*JB

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-08-18
  • VIN: 2A8GF68496R
  • Components: STEERING,WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: I went on some errands before going out if town. I noticed I might need a wheel alignment soon and I parked the car in my garage to go out of town. When I returned to go have it checked out, I noticed my front driver side tire was flat and a closer inspection, it had a tear. Then I noticed my other front tire was flat as well. I had two people tell me my subframe was badly rusted. I found out this was a known problem with Chrysler Pacifica but no recalls. This could have been a horrible accident for my daughter and I. We had been on the highway! By the grace of GOD we made it home, but the car is not driveable. Then came COVID and here I am, still without a car. Chrysler said they don't do recalls. This should not happen. Unfortunately, I don't know how long this was going on, no one mentioned anything at oil changes or when I got 3 new tires, etc. I don't have photos and just lost and frustrated this happened.

SUSPENSION,STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • VIN: 2A4GM68446R
  • Components: SUSPENSION,STRUCTURE
  • Summary: PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2013, INQUIRED ABOUT DEFECTS AND RECALLS BUT WAS TOLD THERE WAS NONE. VEHICLE HAD 46,000 MILES ON IT AT TIME OF PURCHASE 104K PRESENTLY. GOOD RUNNING VEHICLE UP TO PAR ON MAINTENANCE, WHICH ALL GOES TO WASTE WITH A ROTTED SUBFRAME. RESEARCHED 100'S POSSIBLY 1000'S OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE WITH THE SAME ISSUE, WHERE WAS MENTIONED NOTHING WAS DONE ABOUT IT. CONTACTED CHRYSLER MYSELF TO PUT IN COMPLAINT AND AGENT WOULD NOT EVEN FORWARD IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL BECAUSE THE LACK OF RECALL OR EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE COST FOR A NEW FRAME FROM A CHRYSLER DEALER IS OVER 2K AND COST JUST AS MUCH TO REPLACE. BUT THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER FOR WEEKS. (COULD THIS MEAN THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE IN LINE WAITING TO ORDER AND NEEDING THIS PARTICULAR PART?) CANNOT TRUST USED PARTS BECAUSE OF MANY CHRYSLER PACIFICA OWNERS HAD TO SALVAGE THEIR VEHICLE FOR THE SAME REASON. MORE OF AN INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE DONE INTO THIS. IN THE MIDST OF A PANDEMIC WHO CAN AFFORD THESE OUTRAGEOUS, UNEXPECTED REPAIR COSTS OR EVEN A NEW VEHICLE. MY ONLY OPTION IS TO SALVAGE IT FOR WAY LESS THAT IT'S WORTH, AS I MENTIONED IT DRIVE GREAT! I CANNOT SELL IT TO ANYONE ELSE KNOWING THE SAFETY HAZARD IT HAS ON IT AND I CANNOT AFFORD A CAR PAYMENT. I AM FEARFUL OF MY ENGINE FALLING OUT OF THE BOTTOM IF I DRIVE IT. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE, TOO MANY VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ISSUE. FORCE A RECALL ON CHRYSLER FOR THEIR ROTTED SUBFRAMES.

Negative 2006 Chrysler Pacifica car reviews

  1. Nat Veum 2024-11-21

After the first year, I am not as satisfied. Unfortunately, the car came with defective ball joints which caused a loud thunk when braking, and a rattle that the dealer had to fix. While it does drive okay, it feels a bit sluggish. The blind spots are quite annoying, and the paint on the plastic parts is of low quality, causing tiny dings to peel more and more. Additionally, the gas mileage is quite poor for a V6, only getting 12-14 MPG in the city. Lastly, there is no space for any cargo with the 3rd seat up. Overall, it has been a very disappointing experience and I will probably sell it before the warranty is up.

  2. Merle Mertz 2024-11-14

When I first drove my brand new Pacifica home from the dealership, I noticed that the car seemed to pull to the right when I accelerated. I took the vehicle back to the dealer, but unfortunately, I encountered some difficulties with Chrysler. Despite my efforts, I was told that the pulling to the right is a characteristic of the car and that there was nothing that could be done. I am currently in the process of trading the car, as I find it difficult to drive. Thank you for your understanding.

  3. Tillman Corkery 2024-10-04

Although I appreciate the interior, room, and performance of my car, it has unfortunately been plagued with numerous issues. Despite my initial satisfaction, the car has required multiple repairs, including the alternator, AC blower, rotors, radiator, and now the transmission. These issues have resulted in multiple trips to the shop and thousands of dollars in repairs. While I would love to give this car a positive review, its lack of reliability prevents me from doing so.

  4. Jerrod Schmidt 2024-09-01

I purchased my AWD Touring Pacifica back in February 2006. Unfortunately, the AWD system had to be replaced after only 13 months, and the transmission required major repairs at 15 months. Additionally, the throttle sensor had to be replaced at 15 months. Thankfully, all of these repairs were covered under warranty, so I didn't have to pay a dime. However, I did have to replace the rack and pinion steering system at 45,000 miles, which cost me $1200 on a 2-year-old car. I've also had to replace the headlight lamps twice each. Unfortunately, this experience has left me with a negative impression of Chrysler products, and I don't plan on purchasing another one in the future.

  5. Freeman O'Reilly 2024-07-29

Despite having only 18,000 miles, my 2006 Pacifica has had numerous issues, including warped rotors, transmission problems, high idle on three occasions, exterior windshield gasket falling off, body molding/trim on drivers side of vehicle pulling away from frame of car, and several other issues. However, the dealer has been cooperative and accommodating on most issues. Although we have had so many problems that the service manager knows us well enough that no appointment is necessary, we are confident that these issues will be resolved. We remain optimistic that our experience will improve in the future.

I shopped around for a while and then drove the Pacifica. I was sold right away and very happy with my selection. There has never been a better vehicle. It has a Mercedes-Benz feel and is the perfect fit for my family. We travel all the time and the wagon is a comfortable drive.

I'm glad to hear that you've had such a positive experience with your car! It sounds like it has served you well over the years. Although it may need a few repairs, it's great to hear that it still runs, rides, and drives well. I can understand why you would want to sell it, especially if it's not getting much use. It's great to hear that you've enjoyed the sound system, roominess, and handling, and that it performs well in snowy conditions. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this car!

I replaced the gearbox at a cost of 375.00, and the dealer acknowledged that this model is notorious for the same issue. Despite this, Chrysler has not issued a recall. It is disappointing that a company of Chrysler's stature would use such a low-quality part in their products, especially considering their high prices.

We are thrilled about owning this car! This Limited AWD Pacifica has everything you need. It has a beautiful exterior design and all the comforts of your family room inside. It handles nicely around town and is especially enjoyable to drive on extended trips down the coast of California. The DVD system and the integrated Sirius Satellite Radio are perfect for the whole family. You can even plug your iPod right into the front of the stereo system via the A/V jacks! It's a sturdy vehicle, so the mileage isn't that great, but it's definitely worth considering for any family of six or less!
