Common 2019 Chrysler Pacifica problems

Based on the complaints from owners of the 2019 Chrysler Pacifica, several common problems have been reported:

  1. Engine Issues: Owners have raised complaints about random engine stalls and the inability to restart the engine after a stall. This problem was attributed to a faulty battery ground connection and voltage regulator chip, leading to two separate recalls to address these issues.
  2. Transmission Problems: Common transmission issues include the inability to shift to drive mode from park, lurching when applying brakes, low-speed jerking, and failure to upshift. Some owners also experienced stalling when coming to a halt in drive mode.
  3. Service Brakes: Several owners reported a loss of braking force when depressing the brake pedals. Brake shudder and hissing noise were also prominent complaints, with rusted brake discs and faulty pads being identified as causes.
  4. Electric System Complaints: Issues with the infotainment system were prevalent, with the radio getting stuck on the backup camera view, causing driver distraction. Various electrical problems like random cabin equipment power loss, premature battery failure, and key-fob issues were also reported.
  5. Structural Complaints: Problems with the sliding door closing or opening unintendedly due to door lock sensor issues were highlighted. Additionally, steering issues such as hard pulling to one side and oscillation during heavy braking or acceleration were reported.
  6. Safety Concerns: Complaints included second-row seat belts detaching from their mounting points, posing a safety risk. Despite recalls for previous model years, the 2019 model year owners did not receive updates on this issue.

These problems indicate a range of issues affecting the 2019 Chrysler Pacifica, from engine and transmission malfunctions to safety concerns and structural issues. Owners have faced challenges with various components of the vehicle, prompting recalls and highlighting areas that require attention for improved reliability and safety.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-01
  • VIN: 2C4RC1BG8KR
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: The power brake booster was failing and causing the vehicle to not stop as expected. When it was brought to an auto mechanic a few weeks after noticing the issue, they described it as appearing defective beyond normal wear-and-tear and reminiscent of a recall for earlier year models of Chrysler Pacificas. The issue caused the vehicle to not respond to the pushing of the brakes and required a pumping of the brakes until the vehicle stopped. Occasionally, when the brakes were depressed and the car was at rest, the vehicle would start moving and the brake pedal would push strongly against being depressed. There were no warning lamps or messages associated with this issue; the issue was discovered simply by noticing that the brakes were not working as they should.

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-17
  • VIN: 2C4RC1FG0KR
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: There is a slight scrubbing noise when I turn the steering wheel in either direction. When I turn the wheel to the right there is a 'catch' of some sort and I have to put a little force in getting it centered again. I am scared honestly is gonna stay right and I am gonna run into something. I went to the auto parts store to see about power steering fluid only to find out my vehicle doesn't have that and its all electrical. I checked for recalls to see if this is an issue happening with my vehicle and saw none but did see that I am apparently not the only person to have reported such an issue. I am very, very concerned. This has been happening now for about a month.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION PROBLEM

This has been a problem across all FCA brands and an issue since 2017. I had 2018 Pacifica with same issues. I believe there are two class action lawsuits over this problem. I had to pay $650 to replace radio. No help from Chrysler customer cares NO HELP.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-30
  • VIN: 2C4RC1EG0KR
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: Brake Booster has failed. There was previously an extended warranty published for this same issue on November 11, 2023 (No D-22-15) for XA7 Brake Booster, however that expires after 5 years after the vehicle was placed in service or 150,000 miles (whichever is sooner). The Brake Booster failure on our vehicle happened just a few short months after this "expiration date" of the extended warranty. Also, the date of the extended warranty was issued was November 2023. This left only 5 months from the issuance of the letter to the expiration of the warranty, which does not seem to be a reasonable amount of time. Our vehicle is not safe to drive as the brakes are not functioning properly which could result in serious and fatal injury's to the occupants or other vehicles on the roadway. Additionally repair parts are not available to purchase and are on a "National back order". Attention needs to be given to this topic as there are many vehicles on the road that are not safe because of this lack of quality.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-24
  • VIN: 2C4RC1N70KR
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: On [XXX] around 12:00 PM, while traveling northbound in the HOV lane at 70 MPH on [XXX] near [XXX] , with two small children in the passenger row and two adults in the front, the following error suddenly appeared on the dashboard: "Stop Safely -- Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon." Power to the engine stopped as a result and the car coasted. A "red turtle" warning and a "Check Engine" error also displayed. No other errors, unfamiliar sounds, or mechanical noises preceded these errors, nor had there been any other recent problems with the car. We pulled over to the shoulder immediately and turned the car off for approximately 5 minutes to see whether the errors would persist. With the "Stop Safely" error no longer on the dashboard, we turned the car on again and drove it to the dealership. On that drive, the previous errors appeared a second time. The dealership, Carl Burger Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM World (La Mesa CA), has confirmed that the transmission needs to be replaced and that it is unsafe to drive the vehicle until the transmission is replaced. On August 30, 2024, the dealership said that they are waiting for Stellantis to release the transmission and "that won't happen any time soon." As of today, September 2, 2024, Carl Burger has failed to provide a timeline for the replacement and have informed us that we must deal with Stellantis in order to get the case escalated and the car repaired. They have also refused to offer us a replacement/loaner vehicle while ours is in the shop. ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-28
  • VIN: 2C4RC1BG6KR
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: I am the mechanic that was hard to work on this vehicle and I am feeling this out for the customer but I am submitting it in my name . Vehicle has code p105c and p0303. The first code is pending permanent and stored, it is saying the intake valve is stuck in a low lift position. The second code is for cylinder 3 misfire. We had the coils switched over from cylinder 3 to cylinder 5 and made sure that the wiring was not damaged and the same code keeps coming back for that cylinder as well as the p105c. It causes the vehicle to start shaking while going down the road almost causing an accident. There is a recall on the 2020 Pacifica having the same code but there isn't a recall on the 2019 which has the same engine.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-17
  • VIN: 2C4RC1BG6KR
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: Car seems to slip out of drive. In the Dashboard the D will start blinking and I can no longer accelerate. The message says to shift to park and back to drive. If this happens on time, I can start going again. If I can't get it to register that I've shifted, I will not be able to accelerate and I need to pull off the road. Once I come to about 1 or 2 MPH, the shifter knob will turn itself to park and the car will slam the parking break on. I get the message to press then engine button, turn the parking break back off and turn the knob to drive.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-13
  • VIN: 2C4RC1GG8KR
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: When at a stopped position, the brake pedal gets stiff and starts pushing back … and then the car starts creeping forward. I’ve almost hit countless cars in drive-through, and my car tries to creep through red lights. It’s also very hard to brake. I went to one shop and they said it was the brake booster and vacuum hose , and that a lot of people were complaining about this issue in the Pacifica’s. I took the car to a Chrysler dealership to get it repaired and they said the brake booster is on back order because it’s a common problem. The only way to get the car to stop from rolling when you’ve got the brake on is to slam down on the brake (then it’s a crazy crunching sound) or to throw it into park before it gets you into traffic. It’s scary and it’s not safe.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-01-01
  • VIN: 2C4RC1BG6KR
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES
  • Summary: The contact owns a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that the START/STOP sensor light was continually illuminated. While at a red traffic light, the vehicle independently shifted to park(P) and shut off. The vehicle was restarted and placed in drive(D). The vehicle was taken to an unknown local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the START/STOP battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was determined that the hood latch and the START/STOP battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-05
  • VIN: 2C4RC1FG1KR
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: Around 79,000 miles, my 2019 Pacifica experienced check engine error codes. Upon diagnostics by a repair shop, found that the engine coolant was leaking into the engine due to a bad head gasket and that the engine cylinders were damaged and the only repair is a full engine replacement. The car has been maintained and received regular oil changes and should not fail in this manner at less than 80,000 miles. Reading through various forums I see this is a known issue with the 2017+ model year Pacificas
2024-08-01

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-01
  • VIN: 2C4RC1BG5KR
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: The following message displays on the vehicle: “Stop Safely. Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon.” Upon receiving the message, the vehicle will stall. This has occurred multiple times while driving on the freeway at 70 mph, while driving on city streets, etc. Every time the vehicle stalls, it is INCREDIBLY dangerous. There is not always time to pull over to a safe location as the vehicle simply freezes up and won't move. This is a van which means that there could often be children in the vehicle. It is a danger to ourselves and to other vehicles around us. We were first told that this was an issue with wiring in the battery. The second time we took it in, we were told that it was because the auxiliary battery needed to be replaced. Now, we're told that we need to replace the generator. Please note that the 2019 Chrysler Pacifica has known electronic issues with the vehicle stalling. The vehicle is at a Chrysler Dealership for the third time this month for diagnostic evaluation and repairs. The error message has been confirmed by the dealership.

POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-26
  • VIN: 2C4RC1L71KR
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
  • Summary: My 2019 Pacifica Hybrid started showing a message around 07/19 “Service Charing Station” followed by Service Park brakes, Service Parking system and was not able to start or control anything in the car. After 15 to 30 minutes it started working and no errors. On Friday, 07/26, car stopped all of a sudden (luckily my family was in the parking lot) and showed a different message “Stop Safely. Vehicle will stop soon” message and after that it went completely dead. This is a concern that the vehicle would stop when driving and making the vehicle not responding to anything. You cannot control (brakes, driving modes, light) anything and when AAA jump started the car was in “Running” mode and asking to power on the vehicle.

Negative 2019 Chrysler Pacifica car reviews

  1. Colten Runte 2025-01-10

Finally, something showed up after 476 miles. I noticed that the blinker cable in the front left blinker was loose and dangling in the radiator chamber. I fixed the issue by sealing the 1/4 turn fixture. However, the auto start feature had some issues at pickup with 26 miles on the car. I will have to send it to the dealer service diagnostics, which will take two days. It's a little crazy to see the UAW fail in assembling the van, and then the delayed dealer act like it's all good.

  2. Roscoe Walter 2024-11-24

I had a lot of problems with my minivan. It wouldn't start more than six times, which was really inconvenient, especially with seven small kids. When I called Chrysler, they told me to contact Chrysler Care Service, but they couldn't schedule an appointment for me for three to four weeks. I was really frustrated and told them to take back the broken minivan, but they didn't want to help me. One day, the minivan stopped completely dead on the street, so I called Chrysler Roadside Assistance and they took it to Ramsey Chrysler for service. Unfortunately, I had to wait for more than a week without a car, and they didn't provide me with a rental or any money for one. When they called me to say that my grill was broken, I was really upset because it wasn't broken when I had the minivan. They broke it. When I picked up the minivan, there was a new problem, and it was a safety issue. The minivan stopped more than four times in the middle of the road or highway, and it was really dangerous. I had an emergency and needed to go with my wife to the birth of our new baby, but in the middle of the highway, we had a flat tire. The reason was that Ramsey Chrysler had put too much air in the tires. I called Roadside Assistance again, and they took me back to Ramsey Chrysler, but they didn't want to fix my tire without charging me an additional $350, even though they were the ones who overinflated my tires to 38 psi. It was a safety issue, so I decided to lease a new minivan from Toyota, and it's working great. Thank God!

We purchased the Touring L Plus at the end of 2019 and have driven approximately 15000 miles in it. The sound system is fantastic and there is ample room for the whole family. The leather seats are comfortable and have warmers, which is a nice touch. The LED display is also very sharp. However, we have experienced some issues with the electrical systems in the van. The horn has been intermittently going in and out, and we have been unable to resolve a warning light that says 'Wash under vehicle sliding doors unavailable', despite taking it to the manufacturer for repair. Unfortunately, we have found that the service providers for Chrysler are not up to the same standard as those for Toyota or Honda. During a routine PM, we even found oil all over the van. Additionally, the transmission can be rough at lower speeds. All things considered, we would not recommend purchasing this van, new or used. If you are trying to decide, we believe that the Sienna is a much better option.

We had some trouble with shifting after 60k miles and, to make a long story short, we ended up needing to replace the transmission. If you're looking for a reliable vehicle, this may not be the best option for you. However, if you're looking for an affordable van, this could be a good choice for you.

I recently brought home my new 2019 Touring L Plus from the dealer and attempted to install car seats in the second row captain's chairs. Unfortunately, the headrests caused the car seats to be pushed forward, preventing them from fitting flush in the seat. After contacting the dealer, they suggested that I may be doing something wrong or that I should consider purchasing new car seats. As someone who has never owned a minivan before and has always had SUVs, this has been a bit of a disappointment. Not only due to the problem itself, but also with the response I received from Chrysler. I would greatly appreciate any advice or assistance in resolving this issue. Thank you for your help.

Positive 2019 Chrysler Pacifica car reviews

I understand the struggle of finding a mobility vehicle that suits your needs. It can be frustrating when most power chairs are too small and don't accommodate your size. However, I'm glad to hear that you found the Pacifica and it seems to be a good fit for you and your chair. It's great that you were able to slip into the driver's seat with ease and have enough room for your shoulders. It sounds like you've had a positive experience with the car so far, even through different weather conditions and terrains. Thank you for sharing your story!Under these conditions, I would prefer the AWD of my Toyota Venza over the front-wheel drive of the Pacifica. This would hold true with any car. The Venza is very stable and nimble in traffic. The blind spot warning system is quite useful. Its engine seems almost as powerful as a supercharged 3.8! I'm impressed! As an older driver, I need to restrain the kid in me from doing a little after-market upgrading. I had heard of problems with the transmission, so I am tuned into those distinctive sounds and such, but nothing yet. I am still trying to get accustomed to the engine automatically shutting down and turning on again at stops to save fuel. That little noise turning on again often makes me think it's a transmission problem. That's how overly tuned-in I am to the transmission issue I've heard about, yet no such problem. The cruise control gives me a little consternation. It's all thumb control on the steering wheel, which is great, but the on/off button in the center is too easy to accidentally hit when you are adjusting setpoints or trying to resume speed. It needs to be recessed or moved. I miss having control of my stereo on my steering wheel. It's a real safety thing for me. The last thing I have a problem with deals with my phone. When I plug it into the USB port, it automatically boots up Google Maps, which is fine. Unfortunately, the only way I can use the radio is to unplug my phone, find a station, then plug it in again to continue charging it. Surely, I will find an online owner's manual that will give me further enlightenment. So far, I'm as happy as a sailor on liberty!

I've owned two Caravans in the past and was looking for an upgrade. Both of them were reliable and never gave me any trouble. I purchased a Touring L (with several Plus features already installed) 4-1/2 years ago and have been extremely pleased with it. I needed more safety features and ease of opening and closing the rear cargo door. I also wanted a nice entertainment package and this came equipped with the larger touch screen and a decent sound system. After using the blind spot detection, I wouldn't purchase another vehicle without it. I learned with the Caravans to triple check before moving to the right and was still uneasy because of a blind spot in both of them. The only thing I haven't tried as yet is the automatic parking feature, but I'm sure it's great. This is my first vehicle with leather seats, and although I always preferred cloth, I have enjoyed them and found them very comfortable, especially with the heating feature. The second row seating is more comfortable than in my Caravan, and I have the optional additional seat in the middle that folds down to make an armrest and cup holder. It is very easy to remove if necessary. Last year, I had a vapor leak in a fuel line that was repaired under the warranty. This year, one of my day-time running lights went out, but the rest work fine. When I took it in for an oil change and asked them to replace the bulb, I was told they would have to order the entire strip at a cost of $800. I like everything in good repair on my cars, so I told them to order one, but I will check around with others for a used part. It takes a while to get parts in my area, so I have plenty of time to do that. Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed this vehicle and would definitely trade for another one if necessary, as I need a van for my elderly mother.

This is a fantastic vehicle! I was in the market for an SUV and test drove the Mazda CX-5, Acura RDX, and Volvo XC60. However, the Pacifica really stood out to me. It's quieter, roomier, and easier to get in and out of. When the rear seats are folded down into the floor, there is a ton of cargo space. Best of all, I took a long trip right after I picked it up, and it just eats up the freeway miles. It tracks really well, stays on-center, and is an absolute joy to drive. Visibility all around is excellent. The infotainment system is easier to use than any of the SUVs that I drove. I haven't noticed any issues with the 9-speed transmission that others have noted here and on other sites, my Pacifica is just fine. The only things to note - and they are minor - are that there is a bit of torque steer when you really jump on it pulling out into traffic, which is to be expected since it's FWD and has a pretty powerful engine. The radio is just OK, but I'd go for the top-of-the-line radio if I had a do-over. The MPG isn't at EPA yet, but I've only had it for a few weeks and I expect it will improve. One other note - the dealer was fabulous! I looked at the online price for a similarly-equipped Pacifica at every dealer in the state (and Edmund's recommended pricing), and came in to the dealer with a folder of print-outs, expecting the typical negotiations. I let the sales manager make the first offer, and it was well below the online prices from other dealers. I guess they really wanted to sell a car that day. In the end, the Pacifica was a great value, and is both practical and a joy to drive.

After months of researching 3-row crossovers and minivans, we finally narrowed it down to the Pacifica and the Hyundai Palisade. We ultimately decided to go with the Pacifica because it offers much more space for passengers and cargo, as well as sliding side doors and power folding side mirrors. We are absolutely thrilled with our 2019 Pacifica Limited, which boasts an advanced safety package and upgraded 20-speaker Harmon Kardon speakers that provide fantastic sound quality. The ride quality is smooth and quiet, with fast acceleration and excellent braking. The steering wheel is the best I have ever used, and the controls are super easy to use. There is tons of leg room in all rows, and unlike the Honda Odyssey, it has a panoramic moonroof and surround view camera. The Stow’N Go Seats are the best, and it is the only van that allows you to lean the 2nd row seat forward WITH a child car seat in it so you can still access the back row. The rear UConnect theatre is top in class as well. Overall, we are extremely satisfied with our purchase and would highly recommend the Pacifica to anyone in the market for a minivan.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with the Chrysler Pacifica that I purchased from Carmax. I must say, the car rides really nicely! Although, it did take me some time to learn all the electrical accessories on the vehicle. When I first bought the car, there was a warning light on the dash, but I took it back to Carmax 3 days later to get it fixed. They were really helpful and paid the $442.00 bill for the repair, which had to be done at the Chrysler dealership. I did find out that the car has an aux. battery to handle the start and stop feature built into the car, but apparently this battery only has about a 2 year life and it's not cheap to replace and check out the system. By the way, if you're interested, the spare tire is located behind the left rear panel, but it's not inflated. However, there's a compressor attached to it to inflate when needed. Overall, my family and I are really enjoying the car!
