POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-21
  • VIN: 2C4RC1S76MR
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
  • Summary: My wife was driving driving the vehicle on October 21st, 2024. She was shifting from Park to Drive just after our children got out of the vehicle in the school parking lot when the whole vehicle froze up and the dashboard lite up with all error lights including the engine light. It was flashing "Service Hybrid Battery System", "Service Transmission", "Turn off parking brake" and the Vehicle began to power cycle on and off, then on with gas motor, then on with electric motor. The vehicle could not be powered off and it could not be shifted out of gear and the parking brake could not be disengaged. The tow truck had to drag our Pacifica onto the flatbed while it continued to turn on and off and cycle through the engine and hybrid system. This vehicle has 36,000 miles and just had the transmission replaced under the "Recall for hybrid transmission systems" This is the second time this has happened, it originally occurred at 7000 miles and after the dealer had it for a week we were told there was no problem. The dealer had to pull a bunch of fuses and the 12v battery to get the vehicle to stop turning off and on, the same thing happened this time when it was dragged off the flatbed at the dealer.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-02
  • VIN: 2C4RC3GG0MR
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: There is no safety feature on the automatic sliding doors that prevent them from fully closing on something or someone. Once they begin closing they will not reverse if they encounter an obstacle. Given the nature of the vehicle being primarily for family use with children as well as children being the passengers that would use this entry, not having a safety measure to prevent them from being crushed is unacceptable. My 3 year old had accidently hit the close button and the door kept pushing them forward toward the latch and even with considerable force pulling it the other way when I noticed and realized it also wasn't stopping or reversing to open, I was lucky to be there. Then again recently, my wife was in the car cleaning out some items where she had reached in and she accidently bumped the same button, however, the door kept closing on and pressing into her. I thankfully was on the other side and ran over and threw all my weight backwards for it to stop, again, not reversing. It was something we noticed early on, but figured with the electronic failure they continue failing to resolve it was related and would be either solved or the fault become a recall. However, after it happening again recently and without any safety recall, I'm now reporting.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-24
  • VIN: 2C4RC1L71MR
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Manufacturer Recall Number: 66B NHTSA Recall Number: 24V-436 The above recall has been active without remedy since 13-June-2024. The manufacturer has failed to release a fix in a timely manner and this is negatively affecting my business as my vehicle cannot be used for my business purposes with open recalls. I have tested the rearview camera on my vehicle several times and have taken it to the dealer to validate the fact that there is no need to fix.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-13
  • VIN: 2C4RC1N70MR
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: I was driving in the highway with both of my kids in the car. We were driving from Ohio to Alabama. While on the highway, the vehicle shut down into a disabled mode and displayed the message “stop safely, vehicle will shut off soon”. It did this a total of 5 times on our trip down to Alabama.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-14
  • VIN: 2C4RC1L78MR
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: Van had a smell of gasoline inside the cabin and out. Upon inspection, the fuel line going from the hard line to the nylon line in the engine bay was leaking. The nylon line between the fuel pressure sensor and the hard line had rubbed against a coil pack and was leaking fuel. Any fuel leak, especially in the engine bay, poses a safety risk as it can combust and cause a fire inside the engine bay. Other owners have posted about this exact problem on forums, hence why I knew where to look for the issue. I have ordered the new fuel line through the dealership, however, if the fuel line has the same bend in it as the original, the same thing will happen in the future.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-06
  • VIN: 2C4RC1S7XMR
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: WHEN DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT SPEEDS OF 75 MPH. WE RECEIVED A MESSAGE TELLING US TO "SAFELY STOP VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF SOON". AT THAT POINT OUR VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLOW DRAMATICALLY AS WE ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT LANES TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WE THEN HAD TO SIT ON THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE, UNABLE TO MOVE, WITH THREE CHILDREN IN THE CAR FOR ALMOST AN HOUR BEFORE THE VEHICLE ALLOWED US TO MOVE IT AT A SNAILS PACE THROUGH THE DITCH AND TO A ROAD TRAVELLING PARALLEL TO THE INTERSTATE. ONCE, PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THIS LESS DANGEROUS ROAD WE SAT FOR ANOTHER 3 HOURS FOR A TOW TRUCK, MANAGED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER WHICH IS INDICATING THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND ARE REPLACING THE HYBRID BATTERY IN AN ATTEMPT TO FIX IT. WE'VE SEEN MANY GROUP MESSAGES ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THE COMMON THREAD IS THAT CHRYSLER DOES NOT HAVE A FIX OR KNOW WHAT TO FIX AND THAT THIS ISSUE WILL GENERALLY OCCUR AGAIN. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A REPAIR INVOICE JUST YET AS OUR VAN IS STILL IN THE SHOP BUT WILL DO WHAT I CAN TO UPDATE THIS REPORT IF POSSIBLE.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-02
  • VIN: 2C4RC1L7XMR
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: I went to start my van and out of nowhere I got an error message saying to “service hybrid electric system” and a check engine light came on. I am not sure if there are any safety hazards related to this, but am no longer able to charge the vehicle. When I plug it in the charging lights flash and the “service charging system” error pops up.
2024-09-04

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-01
  • VIN: 2C4RC1L78MR
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: The rearview camera system on the vehicle has malfunctioned, causing the rearview image not to display when the driver attempts to use it while backing up. This poses a significant safety risk, as the absence of the rearview image could lead to backing up without confirming the area is clear, increasing the risk of injury to people/kids outside the vehicle. Although the recall was issued on June 13, dealers have been unable to provide any information on when a remedy will be available. The vehicle was purchased on July 28, and as of September, there has been no further information or resolution. The affected component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. There are no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms outside of the discovery of this malfunction.

POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-05
  • VIN: 2C4RC1L76MR
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
  • Summary: This is a follow up to an earlier submission (NHTSA Tracking Number 11591550). After the initial incident, the dealership replaced the hybrid battery on the vehicle. A month later, yesterday, while driving the vehicle on the interstate, I again received the dreaded, "Stop Safely, Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon" warning indicator and the car lost all power about 30 seconds later. Thankfully, I was on an offramp and was able to stop safely. Had I been traveling at full speed in the carpool lane, it could have been very dangerous. The van is now at the dealership for repair, and I hope they fix it for real this time. This is an extremely dangerous situation, with vehicles dying while going full speed.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-21
  • VIN: 2C4RC1L70MR
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: On [XXX], I was driving the vehicle on a busy highway with a posted speed limit of 70mph. While operating the vehicle at ~70mph, the front display showed a message that the vehicle was going to stop and to pull off safely. Unknown at what point the vehicle will stop, in a panic, I pulled off on the highway and immediately called road assistance for a tow. After calling the dealership, they told me to start the vehicle again, which I did and it showed the check engine light illuminated on the dash. He advised that the vehicle should be able to be driven to the dealership rather than needing a tow, so I cancelled the roadside assistance. On May 12, 2023, the dealership informed me that they did not find anything wrong and said I could pick the vehicle back up since they couldn't replicate the issue. On my drive home, the exact same issue happened and in a panic I pulled off on the same highway with posted speeds of 70mph. The car was at the dealership from May 12 2023 - June 26 2023. The dealership replaced the valve body and transmission. On [XXX], while driving with two young children [XXX] and [XXX] ) on the same highway with posted speeds of 70mph, I received the same dash message. The highway was very busy that day and the concern was escalated with my young children in the vehicle. I was able to pull off. I turned off my vehicle, turned it back on, which put it in limp mode so I could putter to a safer spot than the middle of an off-ramp. I turned it off once more and restarted it, and it allowed me to drive with the check engine light. The next day (XXX), I took it to the dealership and they just confirmed today (7/23/24) it once again needs a new transmission. So I have been put in an extremely unsafe condition 3 times in just over a year with no new resolution beyond just trying to replace the transmission once again. Negative 2021 Chrysler Pacifica car reviews

  1. Niko Hills 2025-01-06

The car works great when running. However, it was built during the pandemic and has had some quality control issues. The company has not been completely transparent about software problems that can cause the car to stop working. Unfortunately, my 2021 model needed major repairs after only 800 miles of driving.

  2. Claude Parker 2024-11-06

I had to replace the rack after driving 200 miles because the steering was popping. Unfortunately, the display that controls everything is not very user-friendly and lags. Sometimes, it doesn't switch to the audio for the DVDs, which can be frustrating. Additionally, the minivan's gas mileage is not great, averaging around 21 miles per gallon if we're lucky. When braking hard, the rear seat sensors go off and the USB plugs in the back get extremely hot. I recently took the van to the shop for the third time due to these issues, and now the front end is popping again. I bought this van when it first came out, and I was hoping that the 2021 model would have improved, but unfortunately, it has not.

  3. Nicolas Gerlach 2024-10-24

I am disappointed that my new AWD van did not come with a spare tire as standard. It is concerning to think about being stranded without one. I understand that Chrysler may have been trying to save money, but I would have preferred to have the option to purchase a spare tire. The electric air compressor provided is helpful, but it may not be useful if the tire has a hole. I believe it would be beneficial for Chrysler to consider the needs and wants of their customers. I hope that in the future, Chrysler will prioritize the safety and satisfaction of their customers.

Despite only having 3530 miles on it, my Chrysler died unexpectedly in a parking lot. After taking it to the dealer for 3-1/2 days, they claimed there was nothing wrong with it, leaving me feeling frustrated and uncertain about the car's reliability. As someone who travels across the country twice a year, I need a dependable vehicle. Unfortunately, the Chrysler did not meet my needs and I ultimately sold it at CarMax. I have since purchased a new Honda Odyssey, which I am confident will meet my needs. While buying the Chrysler was an expensive mistake, I am now confident in my new vehicle choice.

Despite the challenging weather conditions of -30 degrees, I confidently took control of the situation when the liftgate of my car malfunctioned and could not be closed manually. I attempted to reset the liftgate, but unfortunately, it did not resolve the issue. However, I was able to find a solution by having my partner hold the door while I drove, ensuring the safety of our two children in the back seat. Although this was a difficult experience, I remained calm and in control, demonstrating my ability to handle unexpected situations. It is disappointing that this issue occurred with a car that has only 13,000 km, but I am confident that it can be resolved with the help of a professional mechanic.

It's such a pleasure to drive!

This is a really lovely vehicle, spacious and packed with great features that make any ride in this minivan a truly comfortable experience.

It's a bit unusual for me to say, but I've always found the Pacifica intriguing, even though I'm not in the market for a minivan. I test drove a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica back in 2018 and it was fantastic, but I was even more interested in the latest redesign, which has a more robust appearance. Recently, I had the opportunity to test drive the 2021 model at a dealership, and it was definitely worth the wait. The luxurious features and advanced technology make it hard to believe that you're even in a minivan.

I really like this van! It drives well and, in the Pinnacle version, it's pretty comfortable. The $7500 tax credit is a nice bonus. The only things that are keeping me from giving it five stars are a wonky side mirror, a problematic entertainment system, and, most of all, a hit-and-miss electric drive system. What I mean is that sometimes I can get 32 miles on the battery, yet on the next time, driving on the same route at the same outdoor temperature, I'll get 16 miles before the battery is exhausted. Also, the van often starts with the gas engine, and that's over a wide range of temperatures. Lastly, MPG on road trips varies tremendously, and I can see when the mileage plummets. The van will take a long time to start recharging the battery while going downhill, and the MPG indicator starts dropping. However, the van really is nice to drive, and it's comfortable. In most ways, it is superb. It's just the consistency in the electric drive motor and charging that need to be improved.

First, let's compare the features of the 2017 and 2021 models. In 2017, there was no radio turn on/off button, so whenever you turned on the car, the radio would come on loudly, which could be a problem if you had sleeping kids in the car. Thankfully, the engineers have finally added this feature to the 2021 model. Another issue with the 2017 model was that you could lock the car without any alert, even if your doors were open. This could be a problem if you have kids who might accidentally leave the doors or windows open. Unfortunately, this issue has not been fixed in the 2021 model. However, both models have great internal and external designs. It's worth noting that the 2nd row stow and go feature is not available for hybrid models. I've been driving the car for over a month now, and I have to say that getting 32 mpg seems unlikely. On my first drive, I got 20 miles and used 15 miles on the highway at around 65 mpg. I did manage to get 30 miles once when I drove at an average of 35 mpg, turned off the AC, headlights, and even the screen and dashboard lights. I've given up on charging it daily and am waiting for warmer weather to see how the EV performs. I haven't tried the hybrid mode yet, but once I get the exact numbers, I'll share them. One great advantage of this car is that you can barely hear the engine, even though it's a V6. This is a significant improvement over the loud Sienna. Lastly, the 7.5K EV Tax Credit makes this car much more affordable when compared to other brands.
