The Chrysler 300 is a full-size car manufactured and marketed by Stellantis North America and its predecessor companies as a four-door sedan and station wagon in its first generation (model years 2005–2010) and solely as a four-door sedan in its second generation (model years 2011–2023).

The second generation 300 was marketed as the Chrysler 300C in the United Kingdom and Ireland and as the Lancia Thema in the remainder of Europe.

Background

The Chrysler 300 continues a tradition of large front engine, rear-wheel drive V8-powered luxury sedans the company has offered, starting in the 1940s with the Chrysler Saratoga and Chrysler New Yorker, followed by the Chrysler Windsor, Chrysler Newport and the Chrysler Cordoba, with the last rear wheel drive sedan, the Chrysler Fifth Avenue that ended production in 1989.

When the company began operations in 1925, the Chrysler Six was entered as a roadster in the 1925 24 Hours of Le Mans where it finished the race, and in 1926, the Chrysler Imperial started the tradition of luxury and performance products. Starting in 1955, the Imperial became its own luxury brand and offered the Imperial Newport along with the Imperial Crown. The original Chrysler FirePower Hemi engine powered the Cunningham C-5R, a special racecar, and finished the 1952 Le Mans, 1953 Le Mans, and 1954 Le Mans endurance races, as well as the 1953 12 Hours of Sebring.

Common 2011 Chrysler 300 problems

The 2011 Chrysler 300 has been reported to have several common problems, based on complaints from owners.

One of the most prevalent issues is the cylinder head failure, which occurred on the left bank between 2011 and 2013. This problem was attributed to bad manufacturing processes and poor materials used in the cylinder heads. The issue resulted in engine overheating and, in some cases, complete engine failure.

Another common problem is the lack of power and reliability issues with the base engine, a 2.7-liter V6 engine that was used in the 300 from its inception. The engine was underpowered and prone to building oil sludge, resulting in engine overheating issues and even complete engine failure in some cases.

The timing chain-driven water pump was another failure point in the base engine. The water pump gasket was prone to leaking, allowing coolant to leak internally and make a sludgy mess out of the oil. This resulted in catastrophic engine damage in some cases.

The 5-speed and 8-speed automatic transmissions used in the 2011 Chrysler 300 have also been reported to have issues. Some owners have reported vibration, making buzzing sounds, and developing rough shifting patterns. In some cases, the problems worsen over time, resulting in complete transmission failure

The 2011 Chrysler 300 has also been subject to recalls due to various safety issues. For example, the airbags on certain models may malfunction due to improperly sized terminal crimps on the seat side-airbag wiring harness.

The bluetooth electronic module in some 2011 Chrysler 300 vehicles is also prone to malfunction and premature failure

The rollers of the hydraulic roller lifters in the 5.7-liter Hemi engines are prone to experience abnormal wear, which can damage the camshaft lobe it rides on. It is recommended to replace all the OEM lifters with a set of better quality to avoid this problem from happening again

The plastic components of the window regulators tend to break over time, causing the affected window not to roll up or down. The valve seats in the six-cylinder engines are prone to experience abnormal wear, causing the engine to develop cylinder misfires due to either low or no compression

In summary, the 2011 Chrysler 300 has several common problems, including cylinder head failure, lack of power and reliability issues with the base engine, transmission problems, safety recalls, and issues with the bluetooth electronic module, rollers of the hydraulic roller lifters, and window regulators.

Negative 2011 Chrysler 300 car reviews

  1. Linwood Williamson 2024-04-15

I purchased this car brand new on August 7, 2011. Unfortunately, the transmission failed on November 14, 2011, with only 5800 miles on the clock. Despite the inconvenience, I am confident that the issue will be resolved soon. While it is true that Chrysler does not stock this particular transmission, I have been informed that it will be delivered within the next 2-3 weeks. As a satisfied owner, I can attest to the car's smooth ride, spacious interior, and impressive fuel efficiency of 28.5 mph on the last road trip.

Congratulations on your recent purchase of a 2011 Chrysler 300! Although it has been in the repair shop for the past 24 days, I hope that you will soon be able to enjoy driving it again. It's great to hear that Chrysler eventually agreed to cover the repairs under warranty. Once you get your car back, you may want to consider personalizing it with a new paint job or accessories. Also, don't worry about purchasing an extended warranty - it's always better to be safe than sorry!

  3. Willy Gleason 2024-02-11

I completely understand the frustration expressed in the reviews regarding the 2011 300. While it is a stunning car with great handling, unfortunately, it has not proven to be reliable. I have personally experienced a multitude of issues with my own vehicle, including the need to replace the A/C compressor twice, as well as the radiator fans, engine and oil cooler, power steering pump, oil sensor pressure switch (twice), all lower control arms, thermostat, transmission shift solenoids, and a few other things that slip my mind at the moment.

Positive 2011 Chrysler 300 car reviews

  1. Joesph Ratke 2025-01-02

It's been almost a year since our first review and we're still absolutely thrilled with our Chrysler 300C. The routine service is very reasonable and we haven't had any major repairs. The car still runs like it just left the showroom. The cabin is incredibly quiet and the Hemi V8 engine provides power to spare. The ride is very comfortable and the AWD option provides confidence when driving in rain or snow. We absolutely love the Alpine sound system and the Garmin Nav system is awesome. We have to admit, we weren't fans of Chrysler in the past, but we can't say enough good things about the quality and comfort of our 2011 Chrysler 300C.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to say that I read your review of the Chrysler 300C sedan and it was really great! It's so nice to hear that you're still enjoying your car after 3 years and over 27K miles. Your description of the car's power, comfort, and quietness really made me want to take it for a spin myself! It's wonderful to hear that the car has lived up to your expectations and that you haven't had any significant service issues. Thank you for sharing your experience and recommendation with us!

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share with you my experience with Chrysler 300's. My wife and I currently own two - a 2011 and a 2013. We've taken the 2011 on long trips regularly, including a summer trip to Gettysburg and back to western Wisconsin, just under 2,000 miles. This week, we're taking it on a 700-mile road trip and we're excited to hit the road! The car is so trustworthy, comfortable and has plenty of luggage space. I also appreciate that they are left-handed friendly. Over the past 53 years of driving, I've owned 19 Plymouth, Dodge, Chrysler and Imperials. I've never had one that didn't go at least 200,000 miles - most went many more! In addition to the two 300's, we also have a 1991 Dodge Ram D150 and a 1957 Imperial. Thanks for listening to my story!

  4. Roman Kessler 2024-06-21

Our family recently purchased two new vehicles from our regional Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Ram dealership. Although it is highly unusual for us to make such a purchase in the same calendar year, we were presented with an incredible deal on both vehicles when we laid the cards out on the table. We opted for the 2011 Chrysler 300 Limited, which is the most luxurious vehicle in its class for just over $33,000 loaded! With its standard Pentastar V6, it has V8-like power and 4-cylinder gas mileage, making it the perfect sedan for me. I do not miss the Hemi-V8 of my 2006 300C, but I am happy to have a choice. It was a great buy!

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with the new 300. I ordered the V-6 Limited version with luxury and safety packages, and I went for the big 20 inch wheels and upgraded sound system too. I have to say, this car is by far the finest I have ever owned and driven in its class. It has power, is very quiet, handles great, and is loaded with a lot of electronic features. The exterior styling along with the LED daytime running lights are exceptional. The sounds system also rocks! Even my 17 year old son likes it and says the big wheels make the car look very sporty, yet executive like. It rides like a dream and I'm getting much better than advertised gas mileage so far - about 25 in mixed driving and 31+ on the highway. I have nothing negative to report about the new 300. Thanks for listening!
