The Chrysler 300 is a full-size car manufactured and marketed by Stellantis North America and its predecessor companies as a four-door sedan and station wagon in its first generation (model years 2005–2010) and solely as a four-door sedan in its second generation (model years 2011–2023).

The second generation 300 was marketed as the Chrysler 300C in the United Kingdom and Ireland and as the Lancia Thema in the remainder of Europe.

Background

The Chrysler 300 continues a tradition of large front engine, rear-wheel drive V8-powered luxury sedans the company has offered, starting in the 1940s with the Chrysler Saratoga and Chrysler New Yorker, followed by the Chrysler Windsor, Chrysler Newport and the Chrysler Cordoba, with the last rear wheel drive sedan, the Chrysler Fifth Avenue that ended production in 1989.

When the company began operations in 1925, the Chrysler Six was entered as a roadster in the 1925 24 Hours of Le Mans where it finished the race, and in 1926, the Chrysler Imperial started the tradition of luxury and performance products. Starting in 1955, the Imperial became its own luxury brand and offered the Imperial Newport along with the Imperial Crown. The original Chrysler FirePower Hemi engine powered the Cunningham C-5R, a special racecar, and finished the 1952 Le Mans, 1953 Le Mans, and 1954 Le Mans endurance races, as well as the 1953 12 Hours of Sebring.

Common 2014 Chrysler 300 problems

The Chrysler 300, a luxury sedan produced by the American automaker, has been known for its stylish look, roomy interior, and powerful engine. However, like any other vehicle, it is not without its common problems. Here are some of the most widely reported issues based on complaints from owners of the 2014 Chrysler 300:

  1. Faulty Electrical Systems: Some 2014 Chrysler 300 owners have reported various electrical system issues, such as loss of power while driving and electrical system failure. These problems have been linked to faulty alternators, which may fail unexpectedly and cause engine stalls or short circuits, potentially resulting in a fire. Chrysler has issued recalls for numerous 2011-2014 Chrysler 300 units equipped with a 3.6L engine and a 160 amp alternator, with dealers replacing the alternators of affected units free of charge.
  2. Air Bag Issues: Several recalls were issued for numerous 2005-2010 Chrysler models, including the 300, due to air bag problems. The frontal and/or passenger air bags installed in the affected units may be prone to moisture, causing the material to rupture easily. The inflators could rupture during a crash and cause severe injuries. To solve the issue, dealers replaced the faulty parts free of charge.
  3. Musty Smell from HVAC Vents: Some Chrysler 300 units from the 2005-2009, 2012, 2013, and 2016 model years may develop and emit a musty odor from the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system. This problem can be resolved by applying a cleaner or disinfectant to inhibit bacterial growth. Dodge also issued a coating for the evaporator to fix the issue.
  4. Rough Shifting and Shuddering: Some Chrysler 300 models, particularly those with high mileage, may experience rough shifting and/or shuddering when shifting gears. Software updates on the powertrain control and transmission control module can potentially solve the issue.
  5. Power Window Malfunction: The window regulator and motor, located inside the door, are common sources of problems for the Chrysler 300. If one of the windows doesn't work, whether it's stuck up or doesn't go back up after being rolled down, the regulator and motor are likely the culprits.
  6. Engine Problems: The 2.7L DaimlerChrysler engine in the 300 is highly susceptible to oil sludge, a sticky substance that coats the inside of the engine. This issue can lead to engine failure and other complications.

While the Chrysler 300 is generally considered a dependable luxury car, these common problems can affect its overall performance and reliability. It is essential to be aware of these issues and address them promptly to ensure the safety and longevity of the vehicle.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-13
  • VIN: 2C3CCAGG0EH
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: I recently purchased this vehicle used with roughly 50,000k miles and drove it for three weeks with no issue. Suddenly, one morning, the motor would not start when pushing the Start Button. Instead the Start button became locked in the Run position but the engine did not engage. I removed my foot from the brake, pushed Start again and it would not return to the Off position. I opened the door thinking maybe it would reset this problem..... the entire dash Icons, headlights, Nav screen, tachometer, and speedometer start flashing and the windshield wipers are going, while stuck in in the off position. A very low pulsating sound is emanating from the engine compartment. I ran to the trunk to disconnect the battery, with the key fob in my pocket, but the button on lid does not open the lid. I run back to the dash and push the trunk release but received no result. I pulled the rear seats down crawled into the trunk and pulled the emergency trunk release and was finally able to open it. Instead of disconnecting the battery, I attempted to jump it with another vehicle. The vehicle was still in the Run position and all of the other components were continuing to malfunction as stated above. The vehicle "started" and began emmiting exhaust but I still had no response in the gas peddle. I then attempted to turn the vehicle to the off position, which worked only after jumping the vehicle and emitting the exhaust. Once the vehicle was shut off I attempted to restart the vehicle as usually and it worked no problem. It has started and ran fine for 2 days but I am extremely concerned about my safety in driving this vehicle due to reading other consumer experiences with a malfunctioning TIPM in this model and year of vehicle.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-01-01
  • VIN: 2C3CCAEG3EH
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE AND VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY. There is a backorder(700) from the factory on this product and the wait is at least 3 months! This problem has been confirmed by the dealership as well as the backorder. The vehicle will not go in gear even with the engine running. The message displays as vehicle is already in desired gear even when it is not, and you cannot put it unto any gear even neutral, as it gets stuck in park!. The code is PO658, and the CHECK ENGINE light is illuminated and can happen without warning while vehicle is parked, stopped or idling so far as I experienced. The ignition will not turn off and the battery must be disconnected in order not to drain the battery. If this were to happen in traffic or or an intersection we all could have been KILLED. It has happened 4 times to us, Two times it started working on its own and Two times requiring a tow which cost me $600. Once at the dealer they charge a $140 non-refundable diagnosis fee and then can't fix the problem because they don't have the parts and can't get them. I think allowing Vehicles to have electronic shifting transmissions instead of manual shifters is a HUGE safety risk! The car only has 70K Highway miles on it and even if it was under warranty we can't get the darn parts. The dealer has to install it because it has to be programmed. The transmission is manufactured by ZF in Germany and they make others for several other car manufacturers. Chrysler uses this transmission across their entire fleet so this failure defect could show up in any of their product line

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-11-11
  • VIN: 2C3CCAAG9EH
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: My car has been at the first dealership (Brewbaker Dodge, Montgomery, Ala.) on November 11, 2020. I got the car back March of 2021. The problem of misfires on cylinder 1 side, hesitation when proceeding from a red light, and stalling out. The problem continued so; I took it to another dealership (Stiver Dodge, Prattville, Ala.) in August 2021. I was given the car back in February 2022 stating to me that the problem may correct itself after being driven until after my birthday (March 2022). So, to this date my car is still at the Dealership and Chrysler Star Team has no clue what is wrong with this car. I'm still paying a car note, insurance, and renewing the license plate for this car every year and moth. Chrysler knows that there is an issue with the 3.6L Pentastar engine. No one wants to help me in this situation, but all parties involved wants my money but no real solution(s). I need someone that's going to advocate for me on my behalf. I just want Chrysler at this point to just put a new engine in the dang car and cover the charges at their expense for their defective engine. Chrysler seriously knows what's going. As long as my car has been at this Dealership For over a year, how could the engineers who designed this engine not know what's wrong with? This car has very low miles to be 8yrs old with major issue. And FCA doesn't want to admit to this engine (3.6L Pentastar) being a defective engine. Look at the class action lawsuits pertaining to this. Please Sir / Ma'am help me make sense of this. Thank you.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-02-17
  • VIN: 2C3CCAAG9EH
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: On or about February 17, 2022, the referenced 300C was taken to Elk Grove Chrysler due to a malfunction with the electronic shift. The car jumped into Park while in motion which was a Safety risk to others as well as myself. After consulting with service team, I was informed that the car had to undergo a diagnostic. A day later I was informed that there was a fault with the electronic shift which required repaired; however, parts were not in stock at this location. I was informed parts had to be ordered and would take approximately 2-3 weeks due to logistical issues. On Monday, February 28, 2022, technician reported that a part was received for the upper mechanism; however, it was determined that the lower mechanism needed repair. With this being said, these are the concerns I would like to address due to disagreement with the process. 1. This electronic shift was previously repaired in May 2014, due to recall. This issue could have resulted in a major safety issue. 2. Why is a Consumer paying for a "Repair to a Repair?" 3. As a Consumer with a low mileage vehicle under 59,000, why must I be responsible to pay Chrysler for a repair that is a "Safety Issue" and a factory recall issue. Obviously, this is a manufacture concern created by Chrysler. This was due to no fault of the consumer. In closing, as a Disabled widowed Senior Citizen having the car jump into parking during my travels affected my anxiety; causing a panic attack. This repair issue is affecting my health and livelihood. I have been without a vehicle and a means to take care of quality of life tasks. Thank you for your time and attention to my concern.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-08-11
  • VIN: 2C3CCAGG7EH
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: I have been having trouble with my cruise control lately. If I start my car remotely and then drive my cruise control won't turn on unless I hold down all 4 buttons on my steering wheel. When this happens I also end up having difficulties disengaging it and there will be a 1-2 mph difference from what the cruise speed is set as to what speed the vehicle is actually traveling. I noticed there was a safety recall in regards to this issue that was issued on 05/17/2018 but my Vin didn't register for that recall so I'm wondering if my car was missed or if there are more vehicles like mine having this same issue that wasn't taken care of in the last recall issued.

Negative 2014 Chrysler 300 car reviews

  1. Gene Nikolaus 2024-08-03

I bought my 2014 car used with 21k miles on it and it drove perfectly in every aspect. It had a smooth ride, smooth shifts from the 8-speed, good power from the 3.6L VVT, and was very comfortable to take trips in with plenty of trunk space. However, after the car reached 31k miles, the transmission started to act up, hesitating on first to second gear changes and downshifting at strange times. The vehicle now has 92k miles and the front CV axles and rear end clunk on deceleration at times. The brakes were also a constant issue, with the rotors warping twice for seemingly no reason at all. I replaced them with aftermarket carbon rotors and ceramic pads and have not had an issue since. The Bluetooth can be wonky at times and the interior quality is not great, with panels and the glovebox squeaking. The fake chrome/silver on the shifter and steering wheel is peeling off and very sharp. The driver's seat makes a terrible clunk noise when moving around in it and always has. The fabric that covers the large sunroof is thin and when the windows are down and you're driving, it makes an annoying flapping noise. You can't drive with the back windows down because it makes the worst helicopter noise and shakes your brain to pieces. The material they used to cover the area between the center console and the stereo is awful, it started to peel back away from the fake wood where the shifter is and is now falling off. Overall, I have had some issues with the car and I am not a fan of it. I don't think I will buy another Chrysler or Dodge product ever again.

I recently purchased a 2014 300 AWD. Unfortunately, in the three days I owned it, I experienced several mechanical issues, including a broken signal light lever, a Service AWD warning, and a lack of hot air despite the heat being maxed out. The car is currently in the shop, but I am confident that the issues will be resolved soon. Additionally, I noticed some peeling of the clear coat on the paint, which was likely due to a carwash. Although I ultimately traded the car in for a Maxima, I learned a valuable lesson from this experience. While I did experience a financial loss, I am confident that I made the right decision in moving on from the Chrysler product.

I purchased a car on 1/12, but unfortunately it stopped in the middle of the interstate on 1/13 at 1am.

Positive 2014 Chrysler 300 car reviews

  1. Ken Predovic 2024-11-23

Best car I've had! I've been through three. I have a 2014 300C V6 and I think it's turbo because it whistles a little. This thing can keep up with Hemis and it's stock. I've even beaten a few while racing! I can't explain enough how much I love this car. It was the greatest investment so far. I'm only 18, but I hope I can upgrade to a 2020 300C or SRT8.

  2. Joany Koelpin 2024-11-18

We were disappointed to learn that Consumer Reports did not recommend our car. However, we strongly believe in the quality and dependability of our Chrysler 300C. We have owned new Cadillacs and Lincolns in the past, but after experiencing this car, we would not go back. When the time comes, we will definitely consider buying another one.

  3. Buddy Cronin 2024-10-20

Watch your throttle toe--it's fast.***65,000 miles now. Still bone stock 300s. Car has performed flawlessly. Just hit 80k without so much as a hiccup--still loving this car! 90K now zero issues staying bone stock. 99k added R1 concepts brakes and rotors. Still running as new on Goodyear assurance all seasons, great ttires

  4. Darrick Hessel 2024-08-15

I am still driving and loving my car in 2023 with no problems. I dread the thought of having to replace it. Although I have never been an SUV guy and large sedans are becoming less common, my car is roomy and comfortable with a wide ample trunk that can easily handle 2 sets of golf clubs. The only issue I have had in several years and nearly 50,000 miles was a slight 'bucking' as I came to a stop. However, the dealership solved that problem with a free software update during my first oil-change. As a Florida resident, I particularly appreciate the air-conditioned seats that my car has. It's a great car!

  5. Kobe Lockman 2024-07-15

The care performance is really surprising. When you need to get going, it sure does. The 8-speed transmission is not very refined and tends to be a little jerky, and it can't always decide what gear it wants to be in. If I had to do it again, I would buy the non-sport model. At 84 years old, I am more keen on a good ride with a car having lots of metal to protect passengers should we get into an accident. Overall, I love the car and feel it is a bargain for the price. I have had no mechanical or electronic problems with this beauty. It just runs and runs.
