2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer problems
The Chevrolet Trailblazer (9BYC) is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand since 2020. It is the smallest crossover from Chevrolet, slotting below the Trax.
Overview
The Trailblazer was launched on April 16, 2019, at the 18th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition alongside the Tracker, that replaced the outgoing Trax. The Trailblazer is aimed for developed markets, while the Tracker is aimed for emerging markets. Developed by GM Korea, the Trailblazer is assembled in Incheon, South Korea, while the Chinese-market model is produced in Yantai, Shandong, China, by SAIC-GM.
The Trailblazer made its North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2019, and sales began in early 2020 as a 2021 model year vehicle. There are five trim levels available: L, LS, LT, Activ, and RS. The latter two came standard with dual exhaust and top of the line features. The Activ and RS models also feature a contrasting color roof.
It was launched in the Philippines in October 2021. Imported from South Korea, it notably reused the nameplate from the previous Colorado-based Trailblazer which was discontinued in the same year.
On January 16, 2020, the Trailblazer was launched in South Korea. The Korean-market model is larger in dimension than Trailblazers sold in other markets, with a length of 4,425 mm (174.2 in) and width of 1,810 mm (71.3 in).

Common 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer problems
The 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues are related to the instrument panel, check engine light, and air conditioning system.
- Check Engine Light: Frequent check engine lights are another common issue in 2005 Trailblazers, appearing around 90,000 miles. The source of the problem varies but includes oxygen sensors, air pressure sensors, and thermostats. Replacing sensors costs about $500 each.
- Air Conditioning Problems: Worn-out blower fans are the primary source of air conditioning problems in the 2005 Trailblazer, which occurs around 80,000 miles. Replacing the blower fan costs around $300.
Additionally, there are two minor recalls for the 2005 Trailblazer, including the windshield and passenger sensing system, which are not a concern once they’ve been fixed.
Other problems reported by owners include computer issues, slow and noisy transmission, interior components breaking, and electrical problems.
The 2005 Trailblazer has a poor reliability rating, with more problems than any other year. Some updates in 2006 make them slightly better, but they still lag behind the competition and were discontinued in 2009.
The vehicle's performance is good from the V6, but the V8 is a quicker option. The Trailblazer is safe, getting 4 out of 5 stars in government crash tests. Fuel economy is bad, with up to 16 MPG combined. Consumer Reports mentions the sloppy handling, and it has low owner satisfaction scores. Edmunds gives the Trailblazer a 4.2/5, liking the strong engines, but the interior is mediocre. Kelley Blue Book users rate the Trailblazer 4.3/5 and enjoy the roominess, but find electrical problems.
In conclusion, the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer has several common problems, particularly with the instrument panel, check engine light, and air conditioning system. The vehicle has poor reliability ratings, with more problems than any other year. However, it has good performance, safety features, and spacious interiors, but suffers from low fuel economy and mixed reviews on handling and interior quality.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my 2005 TB, LS 4x4. I bought it back in Jan 2007 with 97,000 miles for $11,000. I'm not afraid of high mileage, especially since today's engines are built to last 500,000 miles or more with proper maintenance. I've taken good care of my SUV, performing all scheduled maintenance, and it's still running like a dream at 130,000 miles. I even added a DVD system and put on some Continental tires. The 4x4 is extremely sure-footed in inclement weather, and I get excellent gas mileage for an SUV with a 6 cylinder truck engine. I can honestly say that this is the most dependable car I've ever driven, even more so than a Toyota. I just love my TrailBlazer!
-
Great SUV! I understand that you would like better gas mileage and bigger tires and rims on LT models. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.

The 4.2 inline six has great power and torque. The exterior lines are easy to clean, and the interior is greatly designed, resulting in an all-around friendly family vehicle.

I feel so fortunate to have stumbled upon this great wagon! I didn't plan on owning one, but I went to an auction to sell a vehicle and ended up buying this one just to get home. It's the perfect size to compliment my new Tacoma and I've found it to be awesome for hauling my dog, groceries, passengers, and thrift store finds. I feel so safe and comfortable in it, just like the large wagons I grew up with (it even handles like my old '78 Malibu wagon!). I've had it for a while now and it's been running smoothly with no problems, except for replacing a foglamp and some sort of relay. I'm definitely planning on keeping this gem for the long term as a spare. I'm a huge fan of this inline 6 cyl and can't see any reason to part with it!

Unfortunately, Chevrolet no longer offers this vehicle. However, I am happy to share that I bought it brand new in 2005 with every option available and have only driven it for 45,500 miles over the past 18 years. (I had a company car for business before I retired.) I absolutely love this vehicle!

I purchased this vehicle in 2005 and have had to endure numerous repairs. After spending $4,000 on out-of-pocket repairs, I have lost faith in its reliability. The vehicle has had several electrical and fuel system problems, and its fuel efficiency is poor, averaging only 14-15 mpg overall. Additionally, it performs poorly on wet or snowy roads. While it may be suitable for those living in a perfect climate, I cannot recommend it. Despite being a GM owner for years, I regret to say that I will not be supporting the brand in the future.

I bought this 05 tblazer last year. The engine is great and the interior is okay. It has fallen apart on me, but that comes with 15 years and neglect from other owners. Despite the key being stuck in the ignition for the last month and having to start it with a screwdriver, this car is a monster! 👌

Hi there! I have a 05 Trailblazer with 98,000 miles on it. I haven't owned it for very long, but I've been experiencing some stalling issues when reversing or moving slowly in traffic. It starts back up fine and then it's okay. It can go a while before it happens again, but it's still concerning. I've brought it to the shop a couple of times, but unfortunately, they haven't been able to find a solution. If anyone has had this problem before, please let me know if you have any answers. Thank you!

If you're considering this model, I would advise you to think twice or even three times before investing in it. While it's not bad under 36K, be prepared for costly repairs after the warranty is out. I've owned Chevy products in the past, and this one should be buried with the design. The Chevy with the 4.2 is noted for numerous electrical problems, such as fuel sending units and bad connections, and it has less than favorable gas mileage. I purchased it new, and even though I've done all service inspections, it still has cost me over four thousand in repairs. Additionally, the interior is very cheaply assembled, and GM could have done a better job.

This car can be a bit challenging to work on. The overall engineering of this vehicle requires you to dismantle most of the car to do simple repairs. In comparison, my 03 Yukon is easier to repair than the Trailblazer.
