The Chevrolet Trailblazer (9BYC) is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand since 2020. It is the smallest crossover from Chevrolet, slotting below the Trax.

Overview

The Trailblazer was launched on April 16, 2019, at the 18th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition alongside the Tracker, that replaced the outgoing Trax. The Trailblazer is aimed for developed markets, while the Tracker is aimed for emerging markets. Developed by GM Korea, the Trailblazer is assembled in Incheon, South Korea, while the Chinese-market model is produced in Yantai, Shandong, China, by SAIC-GM.

The Trailblazer made its North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2019, and sales began in early 2020 as a 2021 model year vehicle. There are five trim levels available: L, LS, LT, Activ, and RS. The latter two came standard with dual exhaust and top of the line features. The Activ and RS models also feature a contrasting color roof.

It was launched in the Philippines in October 2021. Imported from South Korea, it notably reused the nameplate from the previous Colorado-based Trailblazer which was discontinued in the same year.

On January 16, 2020, the Trailblazer was launched in South Korea. The Korean-market model is larger in dimension than Trailblazers sold in other markets, with a length of 4,425 mm (174.2 in) and width of 1,810 mm (71.3 in).

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-23
  • Date Complaint: 2024-10-23
  • VIN: KL79MTSL6PB
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: I have a 2023 trailblazer rs bought brand new. Currently has 12776 miles on it and for atleast the last 5000 miles I've noticed the breaks squeeling. Esp when I'm going slow speeds. I first thought maybe it was the weather or something. Moisture..whatever because this car is so new I just brushed it off. But it has progressively gotten worse and louder. Which is super frustrating when I'm picking my kids up in the pick up line and my car sounds 15+ years old when I'm rolling through and have to keep breaking. Squeeling in mine and everyone else's ear. I want this looked into a fixed. I had 2 kias before this that the engines blew from recalls they didn't wanna fix until it was to late. I'm a single mom who pays way to much to have a nice reliable car for there to be having issues already. I will be bringing it up to the dealership at my upcoming oil change. I refuse to be worried about the safety or reliability of this expensive new car..hauling my kids around.
Chevrolet Trailblazer 2021
  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-17
  • Date Complaint: 2024-10-21
  • VIN: KL79MPSL5MB
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: When attempting to park the car I am able to shift into park, however, I get a message on the dashboard to “shift to park”. Dashboard also shows a “p” to reflect car is in park creating a contradiction on the dashboard of displayed items. When this occurs the car will not shut off. Dealer service has indicated this is not producing an error code, they have had many complaints, and the issue is not covered by power train warranty and part is back ordered. I am very concerned about the safety of my vehicle given the indicated failures of the shifting mechanism and Chevrolets inability to remedy the issue due to unavailable parts.

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-10
  • Date Complaint: 2024-10-18
  • VIN: KL79MTSLXMB
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: After placing the vehicle in park I get the “shift to park error”. I can’t leave the vehicle, or lock it. It can take any where from 5 to thirty minutes for it to actually read the shift. My car is now not reading my key 80% percent of the time. The vehicle turns off while driving down the road. Saying no “remote detected”. The key has been locked in the Car twice. Which should be impossible. I’ve been stranded outside of my vehicle at night in Atlanta for long periods of time. Trying to get the vehicle to unlock because it is not reading the key.

  • Date Complaint: 2024-10-10
  • VIN: KL79MUSL9NB
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: For about a month now my vehicle is telling me to put it in park when it is already in park. Have to restart multiple times and go through all the gears put it back in park turn it off and still get the "shift to park" error. It does not happen every time I use my vehicle, but it happens so much I am unsure if it is safe to use. Even though it shows it is in park I wonder is it really? I have called the dealer where I purchased it for them to look at it and they will not even schedule an appointment because they say the parts are on back order and they have no idea when they will get them. This is the first brand new car I have purchased and after having a lot of secondhand vehicles I went back to Chevy. I am very disappointed in Chevy it only has 23000 miles on it, and they are not doing anything to fix this, I would not recommend Chevy/GMC to anyone.

Latest negative Chevrolet Trailblazer car reviews

  1. Cristobal Predovic 2025-05-11

    Vehicle year: 2006

I have experienced multiple issues with my vehicle, including the traction control light and check engine light coming on frequently. Despite having the computer chip reset, the issue persists. Additionally, the engine is currently experiencing a severe miss and is not running properly. Based on my experience with this Chevrolet vehicle, I do not plan on purchasing another one in the future.

  2. Ernest O'Connell 2025-05-09

    Vehicle year: 2023

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2023 Chevy Trailblazer. Unfortunately, I had some issues with the engine - it blew up twice, and I had to wait for 60 days without getting reimbursed for my car payment or anything from GM. It was definitely frustrating to deal with, especially since the second engine is already burning oil and a cam sensor went out with only 2500 miles on it. I would not recommend buying this car.

  3. Stefan Bosco 2025-05-05

    Vehicle year: 2005

I bought this car from my father, who was the original owner, in 2011. He had purchased it new in 2005 for around $35,000. When he tried to trade it in six years later, he was only offered $4,000, which was a disappointing return on investment. The car had only 115,000 miles on it, which meant that it had lost $31,000 in value. Unfortunately, since I've owned it, the car has been a nightmare. I've had to replace the brake pads three times, the rotors three times, the exhaust manifold, the headlight assembly twice, the secondary air intake pump, the hub assembly, the EVAP system, the radiator, the power steering pump, the rack and pinion, and I've had to deal with wire shorts in the stereo, among other things. I've only had the car for four years, and it has been sitting in my garage for the last ten months because I can't afford to keep fixing it. I spoke to my father, who used to be a Chevrolet salesman, and he agreed that he would never own another Chevrolet product after his experience with this car. The gas mileage is also terrible, and I can't get more than 275 miles per tank of gas. Since I've owned the car, I've only put about 30,000 miles on it because of the constant upkeep costs. I wouldn't recommend this car or any other GM product to anyone. The only positive thing that has come out of owning this car is that I've learned how to fix it myself by watching how-to videos. I've spent around $5,000 on repairs in the last four years. I would suggest looking at other vehicles, as I've had a very negative experience with this product.

  4. Vincenzo Friesen 2025-05-04

    Vehicle year: 2022

I recently leased a Trailblazer RS after being unable to get a Toyota due to lack of inventory. At first, I was drawn to this small SUV because of its contemporary design and relative affordability. However, after driving it for the past 3 months, I have been disappointed with the engineering and build quality. While the economy is decent, I have noticed surface scratches and paint swirls from the beginning, and rubber and plastic trim pieces have fallen off the vehicle. Unfortunately, the wireless charging pad never worked from day one, and the cruise control stopped working after the first month. Additionally, the cheap plastic interior surfaces scratch and dull easily from even minimal normal usage. Some days, the vehicle has a rough idle at start-up, and the transmission often jerks forward when placed into drive. It's important to note that this is a 2022 vehicle with only 2600 miles on it. When I've taken my Trailblazer into the local Chevrolet dealership, they've been unable to address my concerns. While I'm disappointed with my experience, I understand that entry-level SUVs may not have the same quality as higher-end models. If you're considering a Trailblazer, it's important to weigh the pros and cons before making a decision.

You have a really well-maintained vehicle with only 17,500 miles on it! It's great that you're getting 11 mph in town and 16 mph on the highway with the V6 engine. You mentioned thinking about trading it in, but it sounds like you've decided to keep it since the cost of a new vehicle would buy a lot of gas. That's a smart decision!

Not a bad truck! It has a lot of power and drives pretty smoothly for a truck. It handles well and is an all-around great vehicle. As a car guy, I can say that it has just as much power as my CTSV, which says a lot.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share our experience with our car. We recently traded in our 2005 Saturn Vue because our family is growing. We decided to go for something more comfortable and quieter, and we're really happy with our choice! While the Vue was faster and better on gas due to its Honda V6, we've found that our new TrailBlazer has been great in the snowy season we had here in Detroit, Michigan. We never got stuck or slid off the road, which was a huge relief. In terms of fuel efficiency, we're averaging 15mpg in the city and 20mpg on the highway. Overall, we're really pleased with our decision and wanted to share our positive experience with you.

The TrailBlazer is a great vehicle, although the gas mileage averages around 15-16 mpg. It's perfect for driving in Wisconsin Winters and I feel it's a much safer vehicle for my family than any mid-size sedan or smaller SUV. Overall, I like my TrailBlazer better than any other vehicle I have owned.

Reliable, comfortable, roomy enough for sports gear and vacation gear. Not as bad as some SUVs on gas mileage but I do love my 4x4 and NEED my 4x4. The "auto" 4x4 mode is good for slushy city streets, I like to push the button and know I am securely in 4 wheel drive. I don't mess with the "auto" mode out on snow covered country roads. Too bad they did away with this model. I am discouraged by the lack of true 4x4 SUV's on the market today. May have to switch to Toyota 4 Runner or a Nissan for my next vehicle.

Love the trailblazer. Rides smoothly, great cargo space. The only thing I don't like is when you go in reverse at night time the screen inside the car becomes so bright that it is blinding making it very difficult to see to back up. I believe this is due to the camera being placed in between 2 lights above the license plate. Even dimming the screen doesn't help the brightness.
