1999 Chevrolet Tracker problems
The Chevrolet Tracker, formerly the Geo Tracker, is a mini SUV produced for Chevrolet and Geo by CAMI Automotive in Ingersoll, Ontario. Although appearing as a compact SUV, the Tracker was actually certified as a light truck due to its off-road capabilities and body on frame construction. The Tracker was produced under many brands in several different editions and in many countries.
First generation
The Geo Tracker was a mini SUV introduced in late 1988 as a 1989 model. It was developed by CAMI which was a joint venture between General Motors of Canada and Suzuki. North American models were to be built in CAMI's Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada plant alongside its almost identical twin, the domestic-built Suzuki Sidekick (Escudo). Nearly all 1989 and some 1990 Trackers were built in Japan and imported to the US because of delays at the CAMI factory in Canada. In late 1989, production began in Ingersoll with about 6,100 Geo Trackers finished, with annual production projected to be around 200,000 units. In the beginning, all Canadian-made Trackers were sent to the United States to circumvent the 25 percent Chicken Tax; the Canadian market was supplied entirely from Japan. Suzuki Sidekicks were added to the production line during 1990.
The Tracker was originally powered by Suzuki's 1.6L SOHC four-cylinder engine producing 80 hp (60 kW). The trim levels in 1989 were base convertible, base two-door hardtop, two-door XL bed, and LSi hardtop. LSi equipment included air conditioner, chrome rally wheels, intermittent wipers, rear window wiper/washer, spare tire cover, three-speed GM Turbo-Hydramatic 180 automatic transmission, tinted glass, and special red/black front and rear bucket seats. In 1990 the LSi trim was made available on the convertible models also. All Trackers were four-wheel drive until a base two-wheel drive convertible was introduced in 1992. The two-door hardtop models were available until 1995 when they were discontinued to make way for the four-door hardtop wagon that was to be introduced the following year. The two-door XL bed was a North America only edition which came with four more inches in the rear and a sealed two door cab. Although Suzuki started importing four-door Sidekicks in 1991, CAMI did not start producing them until the 1996 model year, when America got a four-door Geo Tracker, now powered by Suzuki's G16B 16-valve 1.6L boasting 96 hp (72 kW). In 1997, the Geo nameplate was merged back into Chevrolet and all Geo models, including the Tracker, Tracker XL, and all subsequent editions were rebadged as Chevrolet in 1998.
The Tracker was different from most other light SUVs on the market in that it is based on a rugged light-truck chassis and certified as a light truck. Although it appeared to be a comfortable passenger SUV, it was bolstered by a sturdy off-road four-wheel-drive system with a conventional light truck engine and transmission coupled to a hi-lo, 2-4 transfer case. The Tracker had a strong front suspension with a rugged recirculating ball steering box. The conventional front differential was rigidly mounted ahead of the engine, with CV axles connecting the coil-spring front hubs to the differential case. The rear axle was a conventional light truck unit on coil springs. As a result of the truck-like underpinnings, the Tracker had a fairly truck-like ride, but the benefit was its notable durability in harsh conditions.
The production of the first-generation model of the Tracker (and Sidekick) came to an end in Ontario after 1998 in order to make way for the second generation of Tracker/Vitara. However, the first generation Sidekick continued in production in other countries until 2004.

Common 1999 Chevrolet Tracker problems
Based on the complaints from owners of the 1999 Chevrolet Tracker, several common problems have been identified:
- Hard Starting and Fuel Starvation: Another common problem reported is that the vehicle occasionally starts hard and acts like it is starved for fuel. This issue can be related to fuel system problems, such as a faulty fuel pump or clogged fuel filter. It is recommended to check the fuel system components, including the pump, filter, plugs, wires, distributor cap, and air filter, to address this starting issue effectively.
- Electrical System and Charging Problems: Some owners have experienced issues with the electrical system and charging, leading to difficulties in starting the vehicle. It is advised to check the battery, charging system, and perform a full load test to ensure the proper functioning of the electrical components. Additionally, checking for parasitic drains and maintaining clean and tight battery cable connections is crucial to prevent further electrical issues.
- Handling in Winter Weather: While the 1999 Chevrolet Tracker is praised for its reliability and gas mileage, some owners have noted that its handling in winter weather conditions is not optimal. This could be a concern for those living in regions with harsh winter climates, as the vehicle may not perform as well in snow or icy conditions.
- Smog Testing Hassles: Owners have mentioned challenges related to smog testing due to changes in diagnostic systems for vehicles from the year 2000 and above. Finding a smog specialist for the 1999 Chevrolet Tracker can be a hassle, as diagnostic systems may not be compatible with older models like the 1999 version. This issue highlights the importance of finding specialized mechanics who can work with older vehicle models effectively.
These common problems reported by owners of the 1999 Chevrolet Tracker encompass a range of issues from battery drainage to fuel system concerns and challenges with winter handling and smog testing. Addressing these problems promptly and accurately can help maintain the performance and reliability of the vehicle.

STEERING,EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2009-12-01
- VIN: 2CNBJ13C5X6
- Components: STEERING,EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 1999 CHEVY TRACKER. SINCE DAY ONE OF OWNERSHIP, I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH STEERING WHEEL BINDING AND IGNITION KEY ISSUES. ALSO, THERE HAS BEEN A SQUEALING NOISE THAT IS LOUD AND CONSTANT. IT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER MANY TIMES WITH THE SAME OLD RECOMMENDATION OF WE CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG, JUST KEEP DRIVING IT. OR, THERE IS NOTHING TO FIX. THE SQUEALING IS LOUDER AND FROM READING OTHER ISSUES WITH THE CHEVY TRACKER, IT SEEMS IS FROM THE PULLEY AND BELT AREA THAT IS CAUSING THE NOISE THAT A DEALER REFUSES TO FIX. ALSO, MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND THE IGNITION SWITCH DOES NOT TAKE THE KEY SMOOTHLY. MEANING, ITS HARD TO INSERT AND HARD TO REMOVE WITH OUT FORCE. I HAVE A 2008 HHR THAT WAS ON RECALL DUE TO THIS SAME IGNITION PROBLEM AND THE CYLINDER WAS REPLACE. THE PROBLEM IS IDENTICAL TO THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE 98,000 MILES ON THIS CAR AND DO NOT WANT TO GET HURT OR JEOPARDIZE THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY, SO I AM REPORTING THIS ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE. I BELIEVE FROM OWNING ONLY CHEVROLETS, THAT YOUR IGNITION CYLINDER PROBLEM DATES WAY BACK, THEN WHAT YOUR WILLING TO ADMIT. SO PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE, BEFORE YOU HAVE MORE PROBLEMS TO DEAL WITH. MAKE THAT RECALL ON THE OLDER CARS, BECAUSE SOME OF THEM LIKE MINE ARE DEFECTIVE AND UNSAFE. *TR
SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-06-09
- VIN: 2CNBJI3C3X6
- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: BOTH OF MY FRONT SEAT BELTS HAVE LOCKED UP, MY DRIVER SIDE IS COMPLETELY LOCKED UP AND CAN'T BE USED, THE PASSENGER SIDE WILL WORK AT TIMES BUT NOT ALWAYS. I LOOKED IT UP ON GOOGLE AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURER INSTALLED MISLABELED SEAT BELTS THAT WERE MEANT FOR THE TWO DOOR TRACKERS INTO THE FOUR DOOR TRACKERS. I CONTACTED GM ABOUT THIS AND THEY DENIED THAT MY PROBLEM WAS CONNECTED, INSTEAD CHALKED IT UP TO A COINCIDENCE AND TOLD ME I COULD GO TO A DEALERSHIP AND GET IT CHECKED OUT BUT THE COST WOULD BE OUT OF POCKET AND THEY SAID SINCE THE WARRANTY IS EXPIRED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PARTS AND LABOR BECAUSE THEY ARE NO LONGER LIABLE BECAUSE OF THE EXPIRED WARRANTY. THIS IS A SAFETY DEFECT AND HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH A WARRANTY, I AM CURRENTLY DRIVING AROUND ILLEGALLY BECAUSE I CAN'T USE MY SEAT BELT, AND IF I WERE TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT I WOULD LIKELY DIE AS A RESULT. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND IT NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH IMMEDIATELY. *TR
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2012-03-09
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: CAR KEEPS HAVING ITS BATTERY DRAINED AFTER REPAIRS. REPLACED TWO ALTERNATORS AND A CAR COMPUTER. SEEMS TO WORK FOR A FEW WEEKS AFTER GETTING FIXED AND THEN BURNS UP AN ALTERNATOR. THREE TIMES TO THE MECHANIC; CURRENTLY SHOP. PROBLEM OCCURRED AFTER NEW BATTERY WAS INSERTED. CAR HAS WORKED GREAT FOR 10 YEARS AND THEN THIS REQUIRING ELECTRICAL PROBLEM; BATTERY IS DEAD (THIS WITH A NEW BATTERY). *TR
STEERING,SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2011-12-22
- VIN: 2CNBJ18C3X6
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION
- Summary: CAME TO A STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND HEART A POP. TRACKER WOULD THEN PULL ROUGHLY TO THE LEFT WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED. UPON INSPECTION IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CROSSMEMBER BROKE WHERE THE INNER SUSPENSION ATTACHES. CALLED SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS AND THIS IS SOMETHING THAT IS NOT COVERED ON A RECALL FOR THIS YEAR VEHICLE. FOUND SEVERAL FORUMS THAT COMPLAIN OF THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM ON VARIOUS YEARS FOR THE CHEVY TRACKER. THIS IS VERY UNFORTUNATE SINCE I AM QUITE FOND OF MY TRACKER AND RELY ON IT FOR WORK AND TRAVEL WITH MY CHILDREN, ESPECIALLY IN WINTER MONTHS. I AM GLAD THIS WAS DISCOVERED BEFORE IT CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2011-03-18

INSPECTION SHOWED THAT FRONT CONTROL ARM MOUNT HAD SEPARATED COMPLETELY FROM THE CROSSMEMBER DUE TO CORROSION. CALLED CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD IN CAREFULLY PARSED WORDS THAT ACCORDING TO MY VIN THERE WAS NO COVERAGE OR RECALL DESPITE WHAT I HAVE FOUND ON LIN: SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT - FRONT SUSPENSION CROSSMEMBER CORROSION #06186 - (10/17/2007) 1999-2004 CHEVROLET TRACKER. *TR

- VIN: 2CNBJ13C3X6
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: MY MOTHER SAID TO ME THAT HER CAR WAS PULLING TO THE CENTER LINE WHEN SHE PUT HER BRAKES ON. SHE AND I NATURALLY THOUGHT SHE HAD A STUCK CALIPER OR SOMETHING OF THAT NATURE. SHE DROVE IT TO MY HOUSE THE NEXT MORNING, AND SAID IT WAS PULLING BADLY TO THE CENTER LINE. I JACKED UP THE CAR TO FIND THAT THE [SUSPENSION CROSSMEMBER] SUBFRAME WHERE IT HOLDS THE FRONT MOUNT FOR THE LOWER CONTROL ARM TO THE CAR, WAS CORRODED AND HAD ACTUALLY BROKE, CAUSING THE FRONT WHEEL TO JUST MOVE AROUND MAKING THE CAR PULL HARD TO THE LEFT. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 70K MILES ON IT AND IS WELL MAINTAINED IN FACT, IT JUST PASSED VEHICLE INSPECTION THE PREVIOUS MONTH. THIS PART IN MY OPINION SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED THIS WAY. HER CAR IS NOW OUT OF SERVICE DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP HER IN ANY WAY YOU CAN. SHE DID NOT HAVE AN ACCIDENT BUT I'M NOT SURE WHY THIS FAILURE COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN TRAGIC. THANK YOU *TR
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2010-05-25
- VIN: 2CNBJ13C9X6
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: 1999 CHEVY TRACKER FRONT CROSSMEMBER RUSTED THROUGH FROM THE INSIDE CAUSING THE CAR TO PULL VERY HARD WHEN BRAKING. THERE WAS A RECALL ON CERTAIN VIN #'S FOR THIS VEHICLE BUT MINE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I DID DEVELOP THE PROBLEM THOUGH. THE FRONT CROSSMEMBER IS RUSTED OUT FROM THE INSIDE AND IS JUST ABOUT TO BREAK OFF. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS CAUSING A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I REPORTED TO GM AND THEY SAID THEY CAN DO NOTHING TO HELP. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE RUST ON THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE YET THIS PART COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. *TR
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2010-01-23
- VIN: 2CNBJ13C5X6
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: I BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT THE STEERING HAD STARTED TO FEEL A LITTLE LOOSE REQUIRING A LOT OF CORRECTION WHEN DRIVING, BUT I DIDN'T THINK IT WAS ANYTHING SERIOUS. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE THE BRAKES REPAIRED AND AS SOON AS THEY RAISED IT UP ON THE LIFT THEY NOTICED THAT THE "DRIVERS SIDE CRADLE/CROSSMEMBER TO SUSPENSION CORRODED AND RUSTED THROUGH AND THE LEFT FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM DETACHED". THE MECHANIC STATED THAT HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN AND WAS VERY DANGEROUS - COULD ALLOW COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING OR IF ON THE INTERSTATE WITH MORE SPEED COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO FLIP OVER CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. THE CRADLE/CROSSMEMBER WAS REPLACED AND ALL NEW BOLTS WERE USED. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS BEFORE TOO MANY PEOPLE ARE INJURED OR KILLED - I WAS LUCKY. *TR
STRUCTURE PROBLEM

STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2008-05-23
- VIN: 2CNBJ13C8X6
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: '99 CHEVY TRACKER. RUST FROM INSIDE THE METAL TO INNER& OUTER SURFACES. THE DOORS, ROCKERS PANELS & INTO THE FLOOR PLATE, WINDOW FRAMES & DOOR EDGES. BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE USED,3WEKS AGO, BUT LOOKING ALMOST NEW INSIDE & OUT. THERE WAS TO THE EYE ONLY SOME SLIGHTLY BUBBLED PAINT IN 8 SPOTS DECIDE TO GET RIGHT ON IT STARTED TO EMEORY CLOTH IT & FOUND THAT A LITTLE PUSH ,PARTICULARLY THE ROCKER PANELS, WOULD GO COMPLETELY THROUGH TO THE INNER SURFACE. BOTH ROCKER PANELS FRONT TO REAR WERE THE SAME. SO I USED MY GRINDER TO CUT THEM OPEN TO SEE HOW FAR I WOULD HAVE TO GO TO GET PAST THE RUST. ONCE I GOT THE PANELS OPEN I COULD SEE THAT THE CORROSION WENT CLEAR INTO THE FLOOR PANELS. I THEN DECIDED 2 HIT THE SPOTS ON THE DOORS FOUND BASICALLY THE SAME THING. THEN LOOKING ON THE INTERNET FOUND OUT G>M> WAS REPAIRING AND REIMBURSING OWNERS FOR IMPROPERLY TREATED TREATING FRAME & CROSS MEMBERS WHICH ARE RUSTING THROUGH. ALSO REPLACING CORRODED HARDWARE EVERYWHERE IT IS FOUND ON THESE VEHICLES FROM '99 TO 2004. THIS BODY RUST SEEMS TO BE THE SAME THING. DANGEROUS? IF THE SERIOUSLY WEAKEND ROCKERS & FLOOR PLATE WERE STRUCK AT EVEN A LOW SPEED I DO NOT DOUBT THAT ANY PERSON IN THIS VEHICLE WOULD SUFFER CRUSH INJURIES. THIS IS REMINISCENT OF THE 70'S & 80'S WHEN GM WAS USING HEAVILY CORRODED METAL TO BUILD VEHICLES. & CREATED UNSAFE & EXPENSIVE CONDITIONS FOR THE CONSUMERS & LOST A GOOD PORTION OF THE CAR MARKET TO FOREIGN MANUFACTURERS. I HAVE SEVERAL PICTURES I CAN SEND YOU. PLEASE ADVISE. SINCERELY DAN CHURCH *TR

STEERING,ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2006-06-06
- VIN: 2CNBE1860X6
- Components: STEERING,ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: SERPENTINE BELT FRAYED AND BREAKING. DIFFICULT TO KEEP PROPERLY TENSIONED. FOLLOWING ABOUT TWO MONTHS OF THIS PROBLEM THE FACTORY BOLT HOLDING THE MOUNTING FRAME FOR THE AC COMPRESSOR BROKE OFF AT THE ENGINE BLOCK CAUSING THE AC COMPRESSOR TO FALL FROM ITS MOUNT DUE TO THE TOP BOLT HAVING WORKED LOOSE. THIS CAUSED A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE COMPRESSOR BOUNCED AROUND ON THE HOSES FREELY UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AND THE CAUSE OF THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND LOUD NOISE FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT COULD BE DETERMINED. THIS BOLT BROKE OFF DUE TO THE TOP MOUNTING BOLT BACKING OUT OF THE MOUNT ON THE ENGINE HEAD. NEITHER OF THESE BOLTS NEED TO BE LOOSENED TO ADJUST BELT TENSION AND SHOULD NOT HAVE BROKE OFF OR BACKED OUT. BELT ALIGNMENT AND FRAYING PROBLEM IS LIKELY CAUSED BY THE DEFORMATION OF THE LOWER BOLT PRIOR TO IT BREAKING. *NM

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2004-01-21
- VIN: 2CNBJ13CXX6
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I RECENTLY TOOK MY 1999 CHEVROLET TRACKER, VIN [XXX], INTO MY LOCAL GM DEALER FOR A PROBLEM I WAS HAVING WITH THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE. IT WAS A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE IN THE RIGHT FRONT AND THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE WAS SLIPPING IN AND OUT. THE DEALER CHECKED IT OUT AND CALLED ME BACK TO LET ME KNOW THAT THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL. HE FOUND THIS OUT ONLY AFTER RESEARCHING SEVERAL OTHER POSSIBILITIES (AT $61.00 PER HOUR) BY CALLING GM'S TECH SUPPORT. HE WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS PROBLEM IN WHICH GM HAS HAD TO MODIFY THE DIFFERENTIAL CASE. IN ORDER FOR THE PROBLEM TO BE CORRECTED, THE FRONT AXLE DIFFERENTIAL CASE, ACTUATOR AND SIDE BEARINGS HAD TO BE REPLACED TO THE TUNE OF $1380.68. AT THE TIME THIS PROBLEM STARTED, I WAS DRIVING TO WORK IN A SNOWSTORM THAT DUMPED 12" IN 8 HOURS. NEEDLESS TO SAY, 4-WHEEL DRIVE WAS PRETTY MUCH A NECESSITY. UNFORTUNATELY, I COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO GO HANDLE PROPERLY, BECAUSE THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE WOULD NOT STAY ENGAGED. I PARKED IT AND CALLED FOR A RIDE. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT EVEN THOUGH GM HAS ADMITTED TO A FAULTY DESIGN IN THE DIFFERENTIAL CASE, AND HAS MODIFIED IT FOR REPAIR OF A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM, THEY HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL AND WILL NOT PAY FOR THEIR MISTAKE. *JB *JS INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
SUSPENSION,VISIBILITY,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2003-06-15
- VIN: 1GNEK13R5XJ
- Components: SUSPENSION,VISIBILITY,STRUCTURE
- Summary: MY COMPLAINT ISN'T THE FAILURE OF THE ITEMS ON THE TRUCK. WE PURCHASED THIS TRUCK FROM SANDS ON BROADWAY. THE TRUCK WAS LIFTED WHEN WE PURCHASED IT, WE ASKED THE FINANCE PERSON WHO WAS SELLING US THE WARRANTY IF THE WARRANTY COVERED EVERYTHING SINCE THE TRUCK WAS LIFTED. HE SAID YES AND WENT AS FAR AS ASSURING US THAT IT WOULD EVEN COVER THE OVER SIZED TIRES. WE MADE IT CLEAR SEVERAL TIMES THAT WE DID NOT WANT THE TRUCK IF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DIDN'T COVER A LIFTED TRUCK. WE WERE ASSURED THAT IT WOULD COVER THE TRUCK EVEN THOUGH IT WAS LIFTED. SO WE PURCHASED THE TRUCK ON 1/25/03. IT IS NOW 6/24/03 AND WE HAVE ALREADY HAD TO TAKE THE TRUCK IN. THERE IS OVER 1K OF WORK THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE ON THE TRUCKS SUSPENSION AND THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO COVER IT BECAUSE THE TRUCK IS LIFTED. AN INSPECTOR CAME OUT AND VIEWED THE TRUCK AND TOLD US THAT THEY WOULD COVER NOTHING THAT HAD TO DO WITH THE SUSPENSION OR THE DOOR BECAUSE THE TRUCK IS LIFTED. MY BOYFRIEND AND I HAVE BOTH CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND HAVE GOTTENT THE RUN AROUND. ACCORDING TO THE DEALRSHIP THE PERSON THAT SOLD US THE WARRANTY NO LONGER WORKS IN THEIR OFFICE AND THEY ARE BASICALLY TELLING US TO BAD. I HAVE A PHONE CALL INTO THE GM OF THE DEALERSHIP. THEY MISREPRESENTED TO US WHAT THIS WARRANTY WAS SUPPOSE TO COVER, THOSE TIRES THAT HE SAID WOULD BE COVERED ARE NOT, IT CLEARLY SAYS IN THE WARRANTY THAT THEY WILL ONLY COVER FACTORY TIRES, ANOTHER LIE.

- Summary: HAVE BEEN REPORTING CLUNKING NOISE IN FRONT END WHEN I TURN VEHICLE. HAVE REPORTED THIS TO MY DEALERSHIP ON A REGULAR BASIS SINCE 2000. THEY KEEP TELLING ME THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND HAVE HAD NO OTHER COMPLAINTS. I ALSO CONTACTED CHEVROLET AND THEY SAID THEY DO NOT CONTRRADICT THE DEALERSHIP AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO, I JUST FOUND OUT THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS THAT WAS ISSUED 4-1-01. THE DEALERSHIP (TEAM CHEVROLET IN COLORADO SPRINGS NOR CHEVROLET HAS EVER MENTIONED THIS TO ME). I FEEL THAT THEY SHOULD BE LIABLE FOR ANY REPAIR NEEDED AS THE CLUNKING NOISE IS GETTING WORSE. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2003-09-30
- VIN: 2CNBJ18C0X6
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: KEY STUCK IN ACCESSORY POSITION, UNABLE TO REMOVE KEY. BROUGHT CAR TO DEALER, IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER NEEDED REPLACEMENT, NOT COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY, (FOR WHICH WE PAID EXTRA). REPLACEMENT COST $294.00 (WITH A SMALL COURTESY DISCOUNT) AND NO GUARANTEE OF PROBLEM NOT REOCCURING. THIS CERTAINLY IS NOT A USUAL PROBLEM AND NOT THE FIRST EXACT SAME COMPLAINT LOGGED WITH NHTSA-HOW MANY MORE ARE NEEDED TO REALIZE THERE'S A PROBLEM? ALSO, HOW MANY HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM, BUT DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS AGENCY OR HOW TO GET THE INFO TO YOU?
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2003-08-24
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: IGNITION KEY GETS STUCK IN IGNITION SWITCH. CAR MAY BE IN ACCESSORY USE OR COMPLETELY OFF BUT KEY REMAINS. AT TIMES THE KEY CAN'T BE REMOVED EASILY AND MUST BE LEFT IN THE CAR. DEALER INDICATES THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM BUT IS NOT A SAFTEY ISSUE, WHICH CAN'T BE TRUE. IF THE CAR CAN'T BE COMPLETELY TURNED OFF THERE IS A FIRE SAFETLT ISSUE. COST OF REPAIR IS $390. CHEVY SHOULD PAY FOR THE NEW IGNITION SWITCH ($189) AS IT IS OBVIOUSLY A PERVASIVE FAILURE MECHANISM.*AK

When I first bought this car, I thought it might be more suited to a female driver, but I was pleasantly surprised by how fantastic it is and how well it fits my needs. As a second car for my family, it's perfect. While it may not be the best choice for long road trips or larger families, it handles city driving with ease and gets sufficient gas mileage. Additionally, its compact size allows it to fit neatly into small parking spaces.

Your car sounds great! It's a 4-door automatic Chevy Tracker. You mentioned that you had to replace the radiator and water pump, but now it runs fine. It's also easy to back up. I noticed that you filled up your car with $20 of gas when it was on empty. Gas is only $2.48 where you live, which is a great deal! That filled up half a tank.
-
We purchased this car with 62k miles and it looked great. Although we encountered a problem with the no. 2 spark plug tube oil seal, it was easy to fix ourselves. We even set this car up for towing behind our motorhome and my wife enjoyed driving it around town, finding it more fun than her El Dorado. Recently, it was involved in a chain reaction accident and while the other cars were towed away, we were able to drive it home. The car still runs and handles like a dream, a testament to its quality build. Despite the insurance offering us only 60% of what it would cost to replace it, we have decided to fix it as the real cost far exceeds everybody's 'book values', at least here in California.
-
I'm glad to hear that you've had such a positive experience with your SUV! It's great to know that it has been reliable for you, with only one minor repair needed. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
-
I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share that I've been really enjoying my vehicle lately. In fact, I'm heading down to the dealer this evening to pick up my new 2004 Tracker LT. I'm really excited to have a V6 and cruise control. Take care!

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share some feedback regarding the headrests in the back seat. I've noticed that they can sometimes obstruct the rear view, which can be a bit frustrating. Is there any chance that this is something that could be addressed? Thank you so much for your time and consideration!

I recently purchased this car as a replacement for my Toyota Cressida, but unfortunately, I have had some issues with it. Over the past 9 months and 12k miles, I have had to replace several parts including the alternator, blower fan, and radiator end-caps. Additionally, the tensioner and idler pulley were worn very badly, which was unexpected given the car's low mileage of 75k. Repairs have been quite expensive, and I have also experienced some issues with the electric fan and the body squeaking. Despite these challenges, I have found that the car gets an average of 19MPG in a 70/30 hwy/city split, which is not particularly impressive for a 4-cylinder engine. However, I remain hopeful that these issues can be resolved and that the car will perform better in the future.

This car is really fun to drive! I do wish it had a bit more power, but I absolutely love the fuel mileage and the spacious trunk. I would definitely consider buying another one with the V6 engine.
