1991 Chevrolet Corsica problems
The Chevrolet Corsica (named after Corsica, France) is a front-wheel drive compact car that was produced by Chevrolet from 1987 until 1996. The Corsica was built upon the L-body platform. It shared the L-body with the 2-door Beretta, and the rebadged revival of the Pontiac Tempest which was essentially the same car, but was only sold in Canada. The Corsica came in two styles and four trims. Sold initially only as a 4-door sedan, it was also available as a 5-door hatchback from model years 1989 until 1991. Corsicas were built alongside the Beretta by both the Wilmington Assembly in Delaware and Linden Assembly in New Jersey.
Year-to-year changes
1987–1989
The Corsica was first sold as a fleet car to rental agencies and large companies in 1987, prior to mainstream release. The Corsica and Beretta were the second best-selling passenger cars in America in calendar year 1988, right behind the Ford Escort. Much of the suspension components were borrowed from the J-body Chevrolet Cavalier, and the chassis was an extension of that of the J-body, but modeled with similar proportions to the N-body. The L-body platform however, was engineered by Chevrolet rather than Oldsmobile. The car was equipped with either the 2.0 L TBI OHV I4 from the Cavalier, or the 2.8 L MPFI OHV V6 from the Chevrolet Celebrity. The base Corsica's door handles were colored silver, while the Corsica LT/LTZ had black-colored handles. Some earlier models had a column shifter with a handbrake between the front seats, an uncommon configuration for most compact cars of the time. A 5-door hatchback model was introduced for 1989, as was an LTZ performance package that included many suspension parts from the Beretta. A rare XT trim included all the performance parts from the LTZ trim as well as a leather interior, special body kit and spoiler package designed for GM by a third party supplier.
1990
The base model Corsica was dropped, leaving the LT and LTZ. Both engines offered were increased in displacement. The Corsica now either used the same 2.2 L 4-cylinder engine and 3-speed automatic transmission as the Cavalier, or the 3.1 L V6 and 3-speed automatic from the Lumina. Minor changes were made to the interior, mostly around the driver controls.

Common 1991 Chevrolet Corsica problems
The 1991 Chevrolet Corsica has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. Here are some of the most frequently mentioned issues:
- Transmission Issues: Several owners have reported issues with the transmission, including slipping and shifting problems. These issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including low transmission fluid levels, worn out clutch plates, or a faulty transmission control module. Transmission issues can be serious and may require extensive repairs.
- Engine Problems: Some owners have reported engine problems, including misfiring and stalling. These issues can be caused by worn out spark plugs, faulty ignition coils, or a clogged fuel filter. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent engine problems.
- Electrical Issues: Electrical issues, such as malfunctioning lights, radios, and power windows, have been reported by some Corsica owners. These issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including blown fuses, corroded wiring, or faulty switches. Electrical issues can be difficult to diagnose and may require the help of a professional mechanic.
- Suspension and Steering Issues: Some owners have reported issues with the suspension and steering system, including a loose steering wheel and excessive body roll. These issues can be caused by worn out suspension components or a misaligned steering system. Suspension and steering issues can affect the handling and safety of the vehicle and should be addressed as soon as possible.
- Brake Problems: Brake problems, such as a spongy brake pedal or reduced braking performance, have been reported by some Corsica owners. These issues can be caused by worn out brake pads, leaking brake lines, or a faulty brake master cylinder. Brake problems can affect the safety of the vehicle and should be addressed immediately.
It's important to note that not all 1991 Chevrolet Corsicas will experience these problems, and many owners have reported that their cars have been reliable and trouble-free. However, these common issues should be taken into consideration when purchasing a used Corsica, and regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent these problems from occurring.

Your 4 cyl. Chevy Corsica, which also happens to be your first car, has been a fantastic investment! Despite purchasing it with 100,000 miles, it has proven to be incredibly reliable, even with close to 150,000 miles on the clock. I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for a reliable and cost-effective option. If fuel economy is a top priority, I would suggest the 2.2 4 cyl model, but if you're looking for a bit more power, the 3.1 V6 is the way to go. Overall, this car gets two thumbs up from me!

Hey there! I just wanted to share that my Corsica has hit 204,000 miles! I've definitely put this car through its paces over the years, but I've always made sure to keep up with regular fluid changes and filter replacements. Despite the wear and tear, this car still runs like a dream. As some others have mentioned, the paint on the hood and roof has peeled off, but thankfully there's no rust. If I ever had the opportunity to get my hands on another Corsica with 150,000 miles or less, I would definitely jump at the chance!

I've owned this great car for almost a year and a half now (since November last year) and it has been exceptional! The only major issues I've had were a leaking water pump and a bad starter, but other than that, as long as you keep up with routine maintenance such as hoses, belts, brakes, and tires, you shouldn't have any problems. The gas mileage is excellent and the plush, comfy seats are perfect for my low back pain and sciatica. I highly recommend this great, reputable, and strong-running car to anyone looking for inexpensive transportation on a budget. Don't hesitate to give it a try!

Your '91 Corsica sounds like a reliable car with a lot of character! With 137,000 miles on it, it's impressive that you've only had to replace a few parts. It's understandable that the paint is peeling off in some areas after all these years, but it's great to hear that the side panels still look brand new. The wear and tear on the seat cushions and driver-side door interior is also understandable, especially with sun damage. It's good to know that you've been able to fix the problem with a few patches and seat covers. Although the A/C may be a bit weak for the Texas climate, it's still impressive that your car has held up so well over the years!

Hey there! I wanted to share with you my experience with my first car, a Corsica that I bought during my senior year of high school. I was amazed at how little I had to spend on maintenance during the five years that I owned it. The only major repairs I had to do were a new alternator and distributer coils (or something close to that). Recently, I bought a new Honda Accord, which I'm happy with, but I have to admit that I do miss my Corsica. It drove very similarly to my Honda, which is great! Thanks for listening to my story.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my new car. I got it for a great deal at $300, even though it had 240,000 km's on a 2.2. I've had to change a few things like the coil pack, transmission, and water pump, but overall it's been a good learning experience. The idle can be a bit erratic, but the motor is unbelievable! It doesn't use or leak oil, and when I check it, it's cleaner than the oil in my wife's 2001 Focus! It's not the most powerful car around town, but it really shines on the highway - it effortlessly reaches 85. I'm not complaining though, because we have 'air care' (smog test) here, which inflates the price of any used car that passes. I was expecting to have to fix it up a bit, but it's been worth it so far!

You made a great choice purchasing a used car, especially one that has lasted you 14 years! It's clear that you've taken good care of it, and as a result, it's been very reliable. The only things you've had to replace are the alternator, valve cover gasket, and brakes, which is impressive. While the A/C may be making some noise and the HVAC controls aren't working properly, it's still holding up well for a 15 year old car. The 4 cylinder engine may not be the most powerful, but it's perfect for your needs, and the fuel economy is great on the highway at 35 mpg. Overall, it sounds like you've had a great experience with your car and have taken good care of it.

Hi there! I wanted to share with you my experience with my Corsica. I bought it used back in 1992 and it has been a reliable car ever since. My mechanic has taken great care of it, replacing the oil seal, manifold gasket, rear brake cylinder, water pump, and a few other minor things. I have always made sure to keep up with regular maintenance such as oil changes, coolant flushes, and spark plug replacements. However, as much as I love my Corsica, it is getting old and I recently purchased a new minivan. If you're in the market for a good used car, I highly recommend this one. I am planning to sell mine outright since I did not trade it in. Thank you for considering it!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with this car that I got a couple of years ago from a lovely old lady. It had very low mileage at the time, and I'm happy to say that it has remained reliable ever since, with the only major issue being an alternator replacement. While it may not be the most luxurious car out there, it's definitely a great option for getting from point A to point B. The front seats are quite comfortable, but I will admit that the rear seats can be a bit of a tight fit for two adults. However, the controls are clear and easy to read, which is always a plus. The interior materials may not be the most exciting, but they get the job done. Thanks for reading!

I received this car from my grandma. It reliably gets me where I need to go, but lately I've been experiencing some issues. The bright lights aren't working, so I need to get the wiring fixed. Additionally, with two kids, there isn't much room for anything else. Unfortunately, the air conditioning isn't working either.
