The Chevrolet S-10 is a compact pickup truck produced by Chevrolet. It was the first domestically-built compact pickup of the big three American automakers. When it was first introduced as a "quarter-ton pickup" in 1981 for the 1982 model year, the GMC version was known as the S-15 and later renamed the GMC Sonoma. A high-performance version of the latter was released in 1991, called "Syclone." The pickup was also sold by Isuzu as the Hombre from 1996 through 2000, but only in North America. There was also an SUV version, the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer/GMC S-15 Jimmy. An electric version was leased as a fleet vehicle in 1997 and 1998. These models are sometimes internally referred to as the S/T series to denote two and four wheel drive models respectively (similar to the full size Chevrolet C/K trucks) despite all versions being badged with 'S' nomenclature.

In North America, the S-series was replaced by the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Isuzu i-Series in 2004.

The S-Series ended production in Brazil in 2012, being replaced by the Chevrolet Colorado, but still with the name S-10.

Common 1995 Chevrolet S15 problems

The Chevrolet S15, also known as the Sonoma, is a compact pickup truck that was produced by Chevrolet in the 1990s. While the S15 is generally considered a reliable vehicle, there are several common problems that owners have reported.

One common problem with the S15 is coolant and oil leaks, particularly in the V6 version of the vehicle. These leaks can occur at the intake, causing coolant to drip down behind the water pump area. Coolant can also seep into the engine oil due to the intake leak, leading to a milky appearance in the oil. The upper control arms can also be a problem area, with rust and corrosion causing the need for replacement.

Another common issue is with the fuel level sensor, which is located in the fuel tank. Erratic fuel gauge readings and inaccurate fuel level are symptoms of a faulty fuel level sensor, which requires removal of the fuel tank to replace. The MAP sensor, or manifold absolute pressure sensor, can also be problematic. Located in the intake manifold, the MAP sensor reads the pressure or vacuum in the intake manifold while the engine is running. A bad MAP sensor can result in poor acceleration, running rough, hard starting, and a check engine light.

The powertrain control module (PCM) is another component that can cause problems in the S15. The PCM is responsible for controlling various aspects of the vehicle's engine and transmission, and a faulty PCM can cause issues with the transmission and ABS system. Finding and replacing the PCM can be a challenge, as it is not always located in the same place in every vehicle.

Interior issues are also common in the S15, with the passenger seat often developing rips and tears near the stitching. The driver's side door can also be problematic, with the seal coming out and causing difficulty opening the door in cold weather. Rear seats and other components can also rattle on bumpy roads.

Finally, the radiator can be a problem area in the S15, with leaks occurring and causing the need for replacement. It is important to address radiator leaks promptly to prevent damage to the engine.

In summary, while the Chevrolet S15 is generally a reliable vehicle, there are several common problems that owners have reported. These include coolant and oil leaks, issues with the fuel level sensor and MAP sensor, problems with the powertrain control module, interior issues, and radiator leaks. It is important for S15 owners to be aware of these potential issues and to address them promptly to ensure the longevity and reliability of their vehicle.
