Common Chevrolet Monte carlo problems
The Chevrolet Monte Carlo is a luxury coupe that was discontinued in 2007. While it was a popular car, it had its fair share of problems. One of the most common issues was electrical problems, especially with the turn signals. According to CarComplaints.com, the 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo had the most overall complaints, but the 2005 model year was rated as worse due to other factors such as higher repair costs and more problems at lower mileage.
Another common problem with the Chevrolet Monte Carlo was transmission pressure control solenoid failure, which caused erratic shifting. This was a significant issue for many Monte Carlo owners, as it affected their ability to drive the car safely. Additionally, the speedometer or other instrument panel gauges may fail, which could lead to further safety concerns.
The 5th generation Monte Carlo (1995-1999) had its own set of problems, including leaking coolant and intake manifold gasket failure.
The Monte Carlo's "Passlock Security" system was also a significant issue for many owners.
The blower motor resistor was another common problem in the Monte Carlo, particularly in the 2000-2003 models.
Overall, the Chevrolet Monte Carlo had several common problems that affected various model years. These issues ranged from electrical problems to transmission failures and cooling system issues. While the Monte Carlo was a popular car, these problems may have contributed to its discontinuation in 2007.

Chevrolet Monte carlo 2007
- Date Of Incident: 2020-01-01
- Date Complaint: 2024-03-12
- Fire: 1
- VIN: 2G1WL15C779
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: The cable harness in question runs from the fuse box under hood through firewall to the passenger side foot area. At this point it connects to another harness that connects to various items at the rear of the vehicle. One circuit in particular the rear window defogger is burning wiring and socket and plug of the two wiring harness. Either the wiring or connectors burned apart without the circuit fuse blowing. The circuit has a 40amp fuse. The wiring harness for this circuit is 12 Garage. I can't find any manufacturer who recommends using 12 gauge wire on a 40 Amp circuit. This isn't even close to being correct. This is so agreegessly out of specification it would appear GM knew they had an issue with the circuit and fixed it By over fusing the circuit. This same issue on multiple models over several years.

Chevrolet Monte carlo 2002
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-04
- Date Complaint: 2024-01-07
- VIN: 2G1WX15K329
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: My car has the engine 3.1 L automatic. On January 4, I was going to go run errands so I went out to my car and cranked it to start the engine but instead, I heard a loud explosion, causing the front tires of the car to go up in the air and then land back on the ground. Smoke started coming out from the hood and a fire almost got started. I was scared to half to death causing me to almost have a heart attack. Morning inspection, I found that the intake manifold had exploded on the car and pieces of it were all over the engine. I feel that the pressure regulator may have been the culprit, but the plastic upper intake just literally blew up. Nobody was injured neighbors came out to see what the explosion had been, the window on my windshield cracked and major damage has been done to the Plenum. I have pictures but I’ve been unable to upload them but they are available. If you need them I went to Mission Chevrolet where I purchased the car but was referred to contact you in general. no recalls sent over this issue, but have I been driving when the explosion occurred it may have caused fatalities to myself, and perhaps other drivers on the freeway.

This downgrades the vehicle as the engine cover is part of the appearance element and gives a certain amount of protection to some components and wiring harnesses. It will soon be a Classic and the engine cover is part of the original equiptment that needs to be on it. There is NO logical reason the valve cover gasket cannot be replaced AND keep the engine cover in place. Thank you for your help.

The turn signal indicator chimes randomly stop chiming when the turn signal is in use though the interioir indicator light will flash normally. I have not been able to stop when this occurs with the turn signal still active to get out and verify it the turn signal is actually working At random times a loud clacking sound will come from behind the dash in the general vicinity of the radio and there will be no out put from the dash vents until the clacking stops. The use of any controls whether radio or climate does not seem to cause this nor will it stop it. Actuator doorb and/or solenoid perhaps?

Vehicle year: 2001
I've been driving this car for over 3 years now and it's held up remarkably well, even with my aggressive driving style. The engine still runs like it's brand new and I haven't had any major mechanical issues. I did have a problem with the side airbag on the leather seat, but it was quickly fixed under warranty. Despite my heavy foot on the throttle, I still average 30 miles per gallon, which is impressive. I plan on keeping this car until it dies because there's something to be said for the nice low-tech 3.8 liter pushrod. It may not have the power of the Japanese DOHC's, but it's incredibly reliable and efficient.

Vehicle year: 1997
After nearly seven years and 88,000 miles, I have yet to experience any mechanical problems with my Monte Carlo. While it may not be the fastest car on the road, it has been a reliable mode of transportation from Point A to Point B. The gas mileage is reasonable for a stylish vehicle. However, as I enter a new phase of life where a more family-friendly vehicle is necessary, I will have to say goodbye to my beloved Monte Carlo. But, I know that when the time comes, I will definitely consider getting another one.

Your Monte Carlo, affectionately named 'Monte', is undoubtedly the best car you have ever owned. It's amazing that you drove him off the showroom floor in 1995 and he's still King of the Road after over 300K miles. The only major repair has been a leaky intake manifold gasket, and you've only had to replace the alternator and water pump once. The rest of the work has been regular maintenance like brakes, tires (6 sets), and 4 serpentine belts. It's clear that you have taken great care of him. However, you know that he's not going to last forever and gas prices are on an upward spiral. It's understandable that you're not sure if you can bear to part with him. You'll have to give it some serious thought.

Vehicle year: 1999
I bought my car in 2006 with 82000 miles on it. It's been 13 years since then and I still own it, with a cool 168000 miles on the dash. I've only done minor maintenance, such as a tube up at 150000, new spark plugs and leads, coil packs, flushed all the fluids, 2 sets of tires over the years, and new pads and rotors. I even received a recall notice in the mail for a gasket replacement, and the car is almost 20 years old! I've never owned another vehicle for this long, and I absolutely love this thing. The only thing I wish is that it was rear wheel drive!

We fell in love with this car the day we test drove it. The style and power were exactly what we were looking for. Unfortunately, we quickly outgrew it as we had to put two children in the back. We bought the car with 60,000 miles on it and it needed a tune-up at about 100,000 miles. While it wasn't cheap, we still enjoyed driving it. The alternator went shortly after, but it's located on the bottom of the engine behind all of the steering components, which made it difficult to fix. We are now looking into getting a more practical car for the family, but we're having a hard time parting with this one. As other reviews have mentioned, it's a very fun car to drive!

I had a difficult experience with a Chevy car that I owned for a short time. Unfortunately, I had major problems with the engine, transmission, struts, catalytic converter, wheel bearings, and other minor issues. Despite my best efforts to maintain it, the car did not hold up well. As a result, I decided to switch to Ford and have been very happy with my 2009 Mustang. While I understand that GM has made improvements to their cars, I am still hesitant to purchase another one. I hope that others have had better experiences with their GM cars.

I have purchased a new Monte Carlo, which is my second one. While my first one, a 2000LS, was a great car, I am disappointed with the 07 LT. I have experienced several issues, including problems with the DIC, display burnouts, and corrosion on all four rims. Additionally, the car creaks and the materials used, such as the plastics and leather seating, are of lower quality. It is possible that the manufacturer skimped on quality for the last year. Although I had high hopes for this car, I still have a strong attachment to my old Monte Carlo.

When I first bought my car, I was really excited because there weren't too many of them around. Although it had a few problems at first, they were all covered under my warranty. The fuel filter leaked and it needed a rear strut, but those were quickly taken care of. At first, it shifted great, but now at around 125000 miles, it's a bit rough. However, it's still a powerful car for being a large sedan, with a 0-60 time of about 8 seconds. Plus, you can bypass the governor if you need to - just quickly put it in neutral and back into gear. Overall, I'm really happy with my purchase!
