Common 2005 Chevrolet Monte carlo problems
The 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. Here are some of the most frequently mentioned issues:
- Intake Manifold Gasket May Leak Engine Oil: Another common problem with the 2005 Monte Carlo is the intake manifold gasket, which may leak engine oil. This issue can lead to a decrease in engine performance and can potentially cause significant damage to the engine if left unaddressed.
- Engine Oil Consumption: Some owners have reported that their 2005 Monte Carlo consumes excessive amounts of engine oil. This issue can be caused by engine block cylinder bore damage, scoring, or out-of-round conditions. If left unaddressed, this issue can lead to engine misfire, cylinder leakage, or blow-by.
- Transmission Issues: Transmission problems have been reported by some owners of the 2005 Monte Carlo. These issues include slamming into gear, which can be a significant safety concern. Transmission slamming can cause the car to suddenly jolt forward or backward, potentially causing accidents.
- Electrical System Issues: Electrical system problems have been reported by some owners of the 2005 Monte Carlo. These issues include problems with the instrument panel cluster, which can prevent the actual mileage from being programmed on the odometer. This issue can be a significant inconvenience and can potentially affect the resale value of the car.
- Oil Indicator Illuminated: Some owners of the 2005 Monte Carlo have reported that the oil indicator illuminates in the instrument panel, even when there is no actual issue with the oil pressure. This issue can be a significant concern, as it may cause the owner to unnecessarily worry about the car's engine.
- No Power or No Connect Concern: Some owners of the 2005 Monte Carlo have reported that the car may have a no power or no connect concern. This issue can be caused by a problem with the OnStar system, and it can prevent the car from starting or operating properly.
These are some of the most common problems reported by owners of the 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. It is essential to address these issues promptly to prevent further damage and ensure the safety of the vehicle.

The car is very reliable driven to California and Vegas the ride still solid and interior of car are like new. It has plenty of power love my Monte Carlo its a sporty car driving if Chevy brought back these cars again would buy another.
Why did they stop making Monte Carlo?
The Monte Carlo was discontinued by Chevy due to poor sales and declining performance. Actually, the model was canceled twice, once in 1989 and again in 2008, as buyers were no longer interested in the front-wheel drive cars that carried the Monte Carlo nameplate but no connection to its history.

THE FRONT AND REAR LIGHTS FLASH WHILE DOORS LOCKING AND UNLOCKING. THE OTHER NIGHT, IT WAS FLASHING MORSE CODE FOR OVER 24HOURS. I DO NOT HAVE ON STAR CONNECTED. HORN QUIT WORKING 4 MONTHS RIGHT BEFORE KEY FOB QUIT. I CAN'T USE MY BRIGHT LIGHTS, BECAUSE I LOSE DASH LIGHTS, HEAD LIGHTS. MY SON AND I SHARE THIS CAR TO DRIVE TO WORK. SINCE THE LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING ALL DAY AND NIGHT, I FELT IT IS UNSAFE FOR HIM TO DRIVE TO WORK WHICH IS 40 MILES ONE WAY. WHY SO MANY ISSUES THAT ARE NOT BEING TAKEN SERIOUS? I DRIVE MY CAR DURING DAY TIME. I PRAY I MAKE IT TO WORK. I HAVE TO DRIVE 9 MILES ONE WAY TO WORK. HOWEVER, I DRIVE HIGHWAY 75 WITH SEMI TRUCKS GOING 70 MILES AN HOUR. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2009-03-01
- VIN: 2G1WW12E859
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I BEGAN HAVING TROUBLE WITH THIS CAR A FEW MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED IT. I CAN'T DRIVE THE CAR AT NIGHT WITH THE LIGHTS ON BRIGHT, BECAUSE WHEN I DO THE LIGHTS SHUT COMPLETELY OFF AND THE ONLY WAY TO GET THEM TO COME BACK ON IS TO FLIP THE DIMMER SWITCH. I HAVE BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE AND HIGHWAY BOTH, DRIVING THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED. THIS PROBLEM, IN MY OPINION IS A BIG HAZARD AND VERY UNSAFE. I HAD TO HAVE THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH REPLACED, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL REPLACED, BECAUSE IT FAILED COMPLETELY WHILE I WAS GOING ON VACATION, I HAD NO IDEA HOW MUCH GAS WAS IN MY CAR OR WHAT SPEED I WAS GOING ALL GAUGES WERE OUT OF WHACK. THE CAR SMELLS LIKE GASOLINE, I'VE TAKEN THIS TO THE DEALER AUTO REPAIR SHOP, THEY CLAIM THEY CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH THEY COULD SMELL THE GAS BOTH ON THE OUTSIDE AND INSIDE OF CAR. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE KEY, I TOOK INTO DEALER AND THEY PUT A COVER OVER THE OLD KEY, I PERSONALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO TAKE CARE OF WHATEVER THE PROBLEM WAS. I HAVE NOTICED THAT OTHERS ON HERE HAVE LISTED SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS CAR. WHAT I'D LIKE TO KNOW IS, IF THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS WITH THESE CARS, WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL ISSUED? I CAN'T SPEAK FOR ANYONE ELSE, BUT I PAID HARD EARNED MONEY FOR THIS CAR AND I'M SICK AND TIRED OF HAVING TO CONSTANTLY REPAIR STUFF, WHICH SEEMS TO BE A BIG PROBLEM ON THIS MAKE AND MODEL. I THINK SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR WORSE. AND IT SHOULDN'T TAKE SOMEONE'S LIFE BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT THIS.

WHEN I SHUT MY HIGH BEAMS OFF MY LOW BEAMS CAME BACK ON AND STAYED ON FOR THE REST OF MY 120 MILE TRIP. FOUR DAYS LATER ON MY WAY TO WORK IN THE DARK THE SAME THING HAPPENED, THE FOLLOWING DAY MY LOW BEAMS WOULD NOT TURN ON AND I HAVE TO HOLD THE DIMMER SWITCH TO KEEP MY HIGH BEAMS ON OR I WILL HAVE NO HEADLIGHTS. ( ONE HAND ON THE DIMMER SWITCH ONE HAND ON THE STEERING WHEEL). I SUSPECT IT IS THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHICH IS A $300 PART. BUT HAVE NOT HAD IT PROFESSIONALLY DIAGNOSED. I PURCHASED THIS CAR BRAND NEW AND HAVE HAD IT SERVICED AS NEEDED. THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECT, NOT SOMETHING THAT WAS CAUSED SOMEHOW BY ME. I THINK THAT IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT I HAVE TO DEAL WITH THESE DEFECTS WITH MY OWN MONEY WHEN I SPECIFICALLY PURCHASED A BRAND NEW CAR SO I DIDN'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH PROBLEMS OF THE VEHICLE THAT ONE WOULD ASSOCIATE WITH A USED VEHICLE. THE BRIGHTS ISSUE COULD LITERALLY KILL PEOPLE, I'M SURE IT PROBABLY HAS.

2005 Chevrolet Monte carlo recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 2005 Chevrolet Monte carlo.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 3, 2014, that they are recalling 5,877,718 model year 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo, 1997-2003 Chevrolet Malibu, 2004-2005 Malibu Classic, 1999-2004 Oldsmobile Alero, 1998-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue, 1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am and 2004-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix vehicles. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 9, 2014. GM's number for this recall is 14350.

The new Chevrolet Monte Carlo that I recently purchased is both sporty and practical. I use it to grocery shop and take long drives to visit friends, for example. It gets good gas mileage and has plenty of pickup off of starts. I'm really happy with my purchase so far.
-
I have had my Supercharged SS for just over 2 months and I absolutely love it! It's such a blast to drive and it always turns heads wherever I go. I did a lot of research before buying the Monte Carlo, and I'm so glad I made the decision I did. While it may not be the most fuel-efficient car out there, its stunning appearance and impressive speed more than make up for it!
-
A very well built, solid car. It has a great ride and excellent fuel mileage. The comfort and features are what you would expect in a $30K car, but at $22K it's a steal. Plus, it has a large trunk space and the feel of a full-size car with sports car handling.
-
This car has exceeded all of my expectations and continues to put a smile on my face. As someone who has driven pick-up trucks for most of my life, I recently traded in my Dodge truck for this car and I couldn't be happier. I am getting an impressive 33 MPG on my highway trips, and the car has more than enough power to play around with. The interior is simple yet highly functional, with plenty of room for my 6' frame. I absolutely love this car!
-
This is my first sports car. I'm so excited to finally have one, and I chose the Monte Carlo. I absolutely love the new look, and it's a spacious two-door coupe with plenty of room inside. Plus, it's an American-made car, and I'm all about supporting our homegrown products. The Monte Carlo is such a fun car, and it always turns heads - especially with the ladies!

The vehicle seems to have some trouble in rainy weather, hydroplaning even at low speeds. It may not be the best choice for winter or rainy weather, but it could be a great option for spring and summer.
