Common 2000 Chevrolet Monte carlo problems
The 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo has been known to have several common problems, primarily related to the fuel system, electrical system, and engine cooling.
- Electrical System Problems: The 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo has had issues with the ignition switch, which can move out of the run position due to the weight on the key ring, road conditions, or other jarring events. This can turn off the engine, affecting the safe operation of the airbag system. GM has recalled certain model years of the Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo, Malibu, Malibu Classic, Oldsmobile Alero, Intrigue, Pontiac Grand Am, and Grand Prix for this issue. The remedy is for dealers to install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge.
- Engine Cooling Problems: The 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, along with several other GM vehicles, has been recalled for a condition in which drops of engine oil may be deposited on the exhaust manifold through hard braking. This issue affects certain vehicles equipped with a 3.8L V6 naturally aspirated engine. The remedy is for dealers to replace the engines front valve cover and front-valve-cover gasket with new parts of an improved design and remove the engines plastic cover and plastic oil-fill-tube extension, free of charge.
These are just a few of the common problems reported by owners of the 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. It is essential to address these issues promptly to ensure the safe operation of the vehicle.

2000 Chevrolet Monte carlo recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 8 recalls for different components of the 2000 Chevrolet Monte carlo.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 1998-1999 Chevrolet Lumina and Oldsmobile Intrigue, 1997-2004 Buick Regal and Pontiac Grand Prix, 2000-2004 Chevrolet Impala, and 1998-2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo vehicles. The affected vehicles were previously repaired under recalls 08V-118, 09V-116, and 15V-201 to address the possibility that engine oil may drip onto the hot exhaust manifold.
- Consequence: Engine oil that drips onto the hot surface of the exhaust manifold may result in a fire.
- Remedy: The remedy applied under recalls 08V-118, 09V-116, and 15V-201 did not adequately remove the safety risk. Under the improved remedy, dealers will replace the engines front valve cover and gasket. Vehicles that are covered by recalls 08V-118, 09V-116, or 15V-201 that have not yet received the original remedy will instead receive the improved remedy under the original recall number. The recall began on February 19, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Oldsmobile customer service at 1-800-442-6537 and Pontiac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 15757. Note: Until the improved remedy has been applied, owners are advised to park their vehicle outside since the fire risk exists even when the vehicle is unattended.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 3, 2014, that they are recalling 5,877,718 model year 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo, 1997-2003 Chevrolet Malibu, 2004-2005 Malibu Classic, 1999-2004 Oldsmobile Alero, 1998-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue, 1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am and 2004-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix vehicles. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 9, 2014. GM's number for this recall is 14350.

I love this car! I bought it used a year ago and have loved every minute of it. The luxury ride combined with the sporty look is the best of both worlds. This is actually the fourth Monte Carlo that my family has owned over the past 30 years and I would definitely buy another one.
-
I've had the pleasure of owning many cars over the past 35 years, and I consider myself a true 'car guy'. Throughout the years, I've mostly owned Japanese cars such as Honda and Subaru. Recently, I found myself in the market for a car that would accompany me on my journey through a mid-life crisis. Being a big guy, I needed a car that would provide me with comfort and ample space for all my belongings, including the occasional lumber. That's when I stumbled upon the MonteCarlo SS at my local dealer. The retro look of the car immediately caught my eye, and it perfectly captured the essence of my favorite car, the 1973 Monte, while still being updated. I was impressed with the car's quality, which was made in Canada, and it proved to be very reliable after a rough 6-month period at first. It's a shame that GM discontinued this winner of a car.

That's a really nice car! I'm glad to hear that you haven't had any problems with it so far.

I'm glad to hear that you walked away unharmed from the accident with your 2000 LS. It sounds like it was a reliable and safe car overall. It's a shame that they don't make Montes anymore. Regular maintenance, oil changes, and fluid changes seem to have kept the car in good condition. Thank you for sharing your experience!

I really love driving this beautiful vehicle. It's such an eye-catcher, and I've received so many compliments on my SS Monte Carlo. I want to extend my sincere thanks to the team at Chevy corporation. I feel like jumping up and clicking my heels!

Although the car has great gas mileage and has proven to be reliable, the seating is uncomfortable and can cause discomfort in the back due to the way the front seats are made. Additionally, entering and exiting the car can be difficult and uncomfortable for both front and back seat passengers. The car is also quite low, which can make it uncomfortable to step out of the front. The back headrests are also uncomfortable and can make it difficult to turn your head and see behind you. Despite these issues, the younger generation seems to enjoy driving it. Overall, while I believe the car is well made, I personally would not purchase another 2 Dr. due to the discomfort it causes.

I really enjoyed driving the car, but unfortunately, within the first month, I had to replace the HVAC head for a light bulb out, as well as the radio because it wouldn't connect to the message center. Additionally, the car alarm goes off if the trunk is opened with the key, and sometimes the doors lock automatically, while other times they don't. All of this happened at just 32,000 miles. I'm concerned about what might happen next.

I really love the body style and interior of this car, but unfortunately, I have had some reliability issues. As a foreign car enthusiast, I went against my better judgement and purchased this irresistible body style. However, my check engine light seems to come on for the slightest reasons, and I even had to have my rack and pinion replaced at only 30000 miles! Additionally, the weather strip for my trunk is always coming loose. In the past year, I have had to visit the dealer three times to address these aggravating problems.

Despite some issues, this car has only 88,000 miles on it. With proper maintenance and care, it can continue to serve its purpose for many more miles to come.

I experienced several issues with this car, including problems with the ABS, fuel leak under the hood, and transmission. As a result, I have lost confidence in GM cars and will not be purchasing another one in the future.
