Common 2007 Chevrolet Monte carlo problems
The 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo is known to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues:
- Passlock Security System: This security system is designed to prevent theft by requiring the correct key to be used to start the car. However, it has been known to cause problems for some owners. In some cases, the system may prevent the car from starting even when the correct key is used. This issue can be frustrating and may require a visit to a dealership or auto repair shop to correct.
- Electrical System Issues: The 2007 Monte Carlo has had several electrical system recalls, including a recall related to the ignition switch. If the ignition switch is not in the run position, the airbags may not deploy in a crash, increasing the risk of injury or fatality. This issue is more likely to occur if the key ring is carrying added weight or if the vehicle experiences rough road conditions or other jarring or impact-related events.
- Engine and Engine Cooling Issues: The Monte Carlo has had several engine and engine cooling recalls, including a recall related to engine oil potentially dripping onto the hot exhaust manifold. This issue can increase the risk of a fire, even when the vehicle is unattended. Until the improved remedy has been applied, owners are advised to park their vehicle outside.
- Air Bag Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM): On certain passenger vehicles, the SDM could experience a memory error resulting in the airbags not deploying in a crash situation. In a crash, a front seat occupant may receive more serious injuries.
These are just a few of the common problems reported by owners of the 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. If you own one of these vehicles, it is important to stay up-to-date on recalls and to have any issues addressed as soon as possible to ensure the safety and reliability of your vehicle.
Are Monte Carlos reliable?
The car is very reliable driven to California and Vegas the ride still solid and interior of car are like new. It has plenty of power love my Monte Carlo its a sporty car driving if Chevy brought back these cars again would buy another.
Why is Monte Carlo so special?
Monte Carlo is situated on a prominent escarpment at the base of the Maritime Alps along the French Riviera. Near the quarter's western end is the "world-famous Place du Casino, the gambling center ... that has made Monte Carlo an international byword for the extravagant display and reckless dispersal of wealth".
What year is the most sought after Monte Carlo?
By far the best generation of Monte Carlo, if performance is part of the equation, would be the first generation, especially 1970-1971 with the potent big-block LS5 454. They had a ton of power and looked great, and only 1,919 were produced in 1971.
Why did Chevy stop making the Monte Carlo?
In response to declining sales of the model line, Chevrolet discontinued the Monte Carlo after the 2008 model year. During much of its production, the Monte Carlo represented the Chevrolet brand in stock car racing.

- Date Of Incident: 2020-01-01
- Fire: 1
- VIN: 2G1WL15C779
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: The cable harness in question runs from the fuse box under hood through firewall to the passenger side foot area. At this point it connects to another harness that connects to various items at the rear of the vehicle. One circuit in particular the rear window defogger is burning wiring and socket and plug of the two wiring harness. Either the wiring or connectors burned apart without the circuit fuse blowing. The circuit has a 40amp fuse. The wiring harness for this circuit is 12 Garage. I can't find any manufacturer who recommends using 12 gauge wire on a 40 Amp circuit. This isn't even close to being correct. This is so agreegessly out of specification it would appear GM knew they had an issue with the circuit and fixed it By over fusing the circuit. This same issue on multiple models over several years.

2007 Chevrolet Monte carlo recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2007 Chevrolet Monte carlo.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne, 2000-2005 Cadillac DeVille, 2006-2011 Cadillac DTS, 2006-2014 Chevrolet Impala, and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the weight on the key ring and road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position will cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 23, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), and 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet). GM's number for this recall is 14299.

A POTENTIAL MATERIAL OR DESIGN DEFECT COULD RESULT IN THE STEERING KNUCKLE BREAKING IN THE HUB AREA.
- Consequence: A BROKEN STEERING KNUCKLE COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND A POSSIBLE CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.
- Remedy: DORMAN WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE STEERING KNUCKLES FREE OF CHARGE AND REIMBURSE THE REPAIR FACILITY OR OWNER FOR LABOR. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 23, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DORMAN'S TOLL-FREE HOTLINE AT 1-800-523-2492 AND PRESS 5.

I'm glad to hear that you have had no problems with your car! It sounds like you made a great purchase when you bought it used with only 11,000 miles on it. The gas mileage is fantastic, averaging 30+ miles per gallon. It's great that you were able to learn a new way to drive by watching the mileage on the information center. I appreciate the tip about avoiding ethanol, as it can ruin the mileage. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

Your daily driver looks and drives like new, and it's always garaged! It's great to hear that you enjoy driving it so much. Over the years, it has only needed a few inexpensive repairs like tires, brakes, a water pump, and a harmonic balancer. It's a relief to hear that it hasn't been as costly to maintain as your previous M-3, which was uncomfortable to ride and expensive to repair. Thank you for sharing your experience!

I can tell you really love your new Monte! It sounds like it's a blast to drive and also very comfortable. It's great to hear that you're enjoying it so much. And it's even better to hear that you're planning on keeping it for a while. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

The best thing about this car is how easily it blows by other cars that are modded for racing. Most of them don't stand a chance against the impressive horsepower and torque of this machine. The only issue I've encountered is that if you drive in salty conditions frequently, the rotors can rust easily. However, the dealer will handle this as long as you don't void your warranty. It gets up to 34 mpg when going 60 mph and turns heads wherever you go. Plus, the stock 18s look really cool!

I also own a 1999 Z-34 with a Series II 3800 engine, which was my first Monte Carlo. Back then, it was considered a fast car, but upgrading to a model with over 100 more horsepower was a significant change. The torque when starting off is quite impressive, but with practice (or better tires), even a new 5.0 Litre Mustang would have a tough time keeping up. Whenever I pull up next to a teenager in their sports car at a red light (usually a Beamer, an Audi, or a Mustang here in Calgary), I can't help but feel a little excited. On dry pavement, my exhaust sounds great. I've even caught the attention of some Challenger and Charger drivers.
