1996 Chevrolet Impala problems
The Chevrolet Impala (/ɪmˈpælə, -ˈpɑːlə/) is a full-size car that was built by Chevrolet for model years 1958 to 1985, 1994 to 1996, and 2000 to 2020. The Impala was Chevrolet's popular flagship passenger car and was among the better-selling American-made automobiles in the United States.
For its debut in 1958, the Impala was distinguished from other models by its symmetrical triple taillights. The Chevrolet Caprice was introduced as a top-line Impala Sport Sedan for model year 1965, later becoming a separate series positioned above the Impala in 1966, which, in turn, remained above the Chevrolet Bel Air and the Chevrolet Biscayne. The Impala continued as Chevrolet's most popular full-sized model through the mid-1980s. Between 1994 and 1996, the Impala was revised as a 5.7-liter V8–powered version of the Chevrolet Caprice Classic sedan.
In 2000, the Impala was reintroduced again as a mainstream front-wheel drive car. In February 2014, the 2014 Impala ranked No. 1 among Affordable Large Cars in U.S. News & World Report's rankings. When the 10th generation of the Impala was introduced for the 2014 model year, the 9th generation was rebadged as the Impala Limited and sold only to fleet customers through 2016. During that time, both versions were sold in the United States and Canada. The 10th-generation Impala was also sold in the Middle East and South Korea.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM

- VIN: 1G1BL52P6TR
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: I BOUGHT MY 1996 IMPALA SS BRAND NEW, AND EVERY YEAR SINCE THEN IN THE WINTER TIME I LOOSE THE HEAT. THE DEALER, WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, WOULD FLUSH THE HEATER CORE AND SOMETIMES REPLACE IT YEARLY. THE PROBLEM STILL IS NOT FIXED, AND I HAVE LOST THE HEAT IN THE CAR AGAIN AND THE DEALER WILL NO LONGER FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY CLAIM IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE ALL OF THE SERVICE RECORDS SHOWING THE HISTORY OF THE PROBLEM. I THINK THIS IS TOTALLY UNFAIR TO THE OWNER, AND I HAVE TALKED TO MANY CAPRICE/IMPALA SS OWNERS OF THIS YEAR WHO ARE GOING THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEM. CHEVY KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM BUT DOES NOTHING TO CORRECT IT, AND NOW THE OWNERS ARE LEFT WITH THE BILL AND IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE THEM FIX IT YOU DRIVE IN A COLD CAR. IF THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM, THEN CHEVY/DEALERSHIP SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR FLUSHING OR REPLACING MY HEATER CORE(WHATEVER IS NEEDED TO RESTORE THE HEAT) FOR AS LONG AS I OWN THE CAR. I NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS, I AM ONLY A SMALL GUY FIGHTING A GIANT. ANY ASSISTANCE YOU CAN PROVIDE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS KJB. TS

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to ask about the retail value you posted for the 94-96 Impala SS. From my experience, the average retail value for these cars is actually several thousand higher for an average condition '94 and as much as double for a pristine '96 with low miles. I was just curious how you arrived at the lower value. Thanks!
Boris Windler 2024-11-27
I have experienced no issues with the car, except for the back window occasionally going out of track in cold weather.
Bernhard Fritsch 2024-11-24
We've owned two '96 Impala SS vehicles over the years, both of which were driven by adults and regularly maintained. The first one had 122,000 miles on it by the end of 1999, at which point it was retired from duty. We then acquired another one from a collector with only 1700 miles on it. The second vehicle now has over 250,000 miles on the original LT1 motor, 4L60E transmission, and 8.5 10 bolt posi rear end. It burns no oil and starts up every time. The only repairs needed were a starter, an A/C compressor, and a harmonic balancer. These are truly great cars that hold their value.

The American rear wheel, full-sized car with performance is a true gem. With only 47,000 miles on the clock, this car has been dealer maintained and is in excellent condition. Any manufacturing glitches were quickly resolved by the dealer under warranty, which is a testament to Chevrolet's quality. This car is a pleasure to drive daily, with plenty of interior room to spare.

Back in the day when I was feeling down, I decided to buy the SS to lift my spirits. And let me tell you, it worked wonders! The performance, comfort, and overall ride of this vehicle are simply unbeatable. It's no wonder why I feel like the king of the road every time I'm behind the wheel. Although I wish I had enough money to buy a second one and keep it in storage, driving this car year-round is not a bad alternative at all.
