The Chevrolet Colorado (sharing mechanical commonality with the GMC Canyon), is a series of compact pickup trucks (mid-size since second generation) marketed by American automaker General Motors. They were introduced in 2004 to replace the Chevrolet S-10 and GMC S-15/Sonoma compact pickups. The Colorado is named after the U.S. state of Colorado, while the Canyon would be the deep chasm between cliffs.
First generation (2004)
The Chevrolet Colorado and its twin, the GMC Canyon were jointly designed by GM's North American operations, GM's Brazil operations, and Isuzu, which began selling its own version worldwide in 2002. In late 2005, Isuzu offered a version in North America called the Isuzu i-series. This North American model Isuzu shared North American powertrains, styling, and equipment with the Colorado/Canyon twins and differed from Isuzu's worldwide offering. All Chevrolet, GMC, and Isuzu versions worldwide are based on the GMT355, itself the basis for the GMT 345-based Hummer H3. Most vehicles for markets outside North America are manufactured at a GM plant in Rayong, Thailand. All North American-market vehicles were manufactured by Shreveport Operations.
The cooperation between GM and Isuzu to build a light-duty truck and offer it in North America returns to an original arrangement the two companies had in the 1970s with the Chevrolet LUV, a rebadged Isuzu Faster.

The light constantly turns on and off, leaving me completely clueless as to if I’m going to be left stranded on the side of the road. Both issues have been looked at by an automotive repair shop. The parts are not available anywhere in the country to rebuild the parts of the transmission that are defective. Secondly I was told I could replace the transmission but there are no transmissions available in the entire country to repair my vehicle with. After investigation on the internet this is a massive problem with this model vehicle and Chevy has been well aware of it for years. A few months ago I had the same problem with them air conditioner compressor. There were no air conditioner compressors available anywhere in the country for my four and a half year old vehicle.

- Summary: Power steering failure occurred while driving. This makes the truck very hard to turn. A warning message appears in the info screen “power steering assist failure” when the power steering failure happens. The only fix is to stop the truck, turn off the truck, open the drivers door, close the drivers door, and then restart the truck. The first occurrence of this failure was in July 2024. It has happened many times since: at slow and high speed, wet and dry conditions, on bumpy roads and smooth pavement. There does not seem to be a specific condition which triggers this event. Today, the power steering went out right as I was turning right. This caused me to turn very wide and forced me into the opposing lane of traffic. Thankfully, this did not cause an accident, however, the potential for an accident due to this failure is very high. A similar issue has been identified in the 2015 model year of this truck and there is an open recall for that model year but not this one. I believe the included model year list should be extended to include the 2016 model year at minimum.

The Colorado you purchased looks great with its chrome accents, running boards, 17-inch aluminum wheels, and metallic paint. The ride is smooth and the 5-cylinder engine has plenty of snap. Although the console area and heat/AC controls seem a bit cheaply done, the leather interior is nice. Overall, it sounds like you made a great choice!

Hey there! I just wanted to share my experience with my 2005 Colorado Z71 LS Crew. I absolutely love how she looks and handles - it's been a great ride so far! While the interior may not be the most exciting, it definitely gets the job done. I've had her for about a year now and have only had to replace the brakes, which is pretty impressive considering I bought her with 100k miles and have put 19k on in just 11 months. She handles both on and off road like a dream, and the I5 engine provides plenty of power. Personally, I wouldn't pass up the 2005 model year for anything - it even looks better than the 2012 in my opinion! I used to be a loyal Ford guy, but this truck has definitely converted me to a Chevy guy. It's a great truck that's cheap to fix and easy to maintain. Thanks for letting me share!

At the beginning of my search, I researched the Chevy Colorado with the diesel option extensively. After almost two years of searching, I finally purchased a black 2017 Chevy Colorado Z71 crew cab, short bed, four-wheel drive with the diesel option in March 2017. Since then, I have received many positive comments from strangers on the road. The driver information center tracks constant 50-mile loops for fuel mileage, and I have achieved my highest mpg of 33 miles per gallon. I opted for the diesel option because I needed to tow my 19-foot center console deep V fishing boat, and it handles the boat and all my belongings very nicely. I have even added an aftermarket tune and cold air intake to increase horsepower by approximately 60 horses and 100 foot-pounds of torque. While the price is a bit steep and the warranty is too short, I still love my little Colorado!

My 2019 Pacific Blue crew cab is everything I could want in a truck and then some. The interior is incredibly spacious and comfortable, which is especially appreciated as a 6'3'' 230lb broad-shouldered man. I had the dealer install custom pearl white leather, which not only looks great but is also easier to clean. This truck handles like a dream, with a smooth and quiet ride. It's also surprisingly easy to maneuver, even with its great length. The WT model is loaded with conveniences, including a power seat, best in class Apple Carplay, big screen, power windows, power locks, remote locks, and a tailgate that gently goes down by itself without slamming. Despite all these luxurious features, I saved tons of money by not getting a higher model. I recently took my wife, dogs, and a bedful of outdoor equipment down some steep rocky trails to the river here in the Texas Hill Country, and had full confidence and capability to conquer them all. It's our new adventure and truly a dream truck! :)

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my truck. I bought it brand new back in 11/07 and traded in my old Toyota 2004 Tacoma. I was a bit hesitant at first since it was my first American truck, but I have to say, I'm really pleased with it! I've put over 16000 miles on it and it still rides great. It handles the road really well and drives like a car. I've even had to pull my 6000lb skid loader out of the mud and tow large chippers, and it had no trouble at all. Overall, I'm really happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend it to anyone in the market for a new truck!

Although I experienced some starting issues with my 2011 Colorado after 5 years of use, I am confident that this is not a common problem and can be resolved with proper maintenance. While the issue became more frequent over time, I believe that with the right care and attention, this can be avoided in the future. Overall, I still have faith in the Colorado and would consider owning one again in the future.

In my experience with this truck, I have had to replace the clutch, rebuild the brakes, and install new tire rods, which has been a bit of a challenge. Unfortunately, I am currently dealing with a faulty vacuum seal that has caused the check engine light to come on. Although I have only used this truck to haul items a few times, I have noticed that it tends to rattle and doesn't drive as smoothly as I would like. Additionally, several of the dashboard lights have burnt out. Based on my experience, I would not recommend purchasing this vehicle as it may not be put together as well as other options.

The truck started squeaking at 8400 miles, even when stationary or when rocked on the passenger side. I took it to Igor for my 9:00 appointment and they called an hour later to inform me that they found a bad ball joint. Although I had never heard of a ball joint squeaking before, I trusted their expertise. When I picked up the truck, I noticed that they had replaced the right upper control arm due to lack of lubrication, and the noise was gone. However, four days later, I noticed a clunking sound coming from the front end. I have made another appointment with a different dealership, but they have informed me that the diagnosis may take all day. In comparison to my previous Ram crew cabs, both the Hemi and V6, the Colorado's mileage is disappointing, as I am lucky to get 19 mpg even when driving at 75mph on the highway.

I purchased a brand new 2019 LT 4X4, however, after a year and 3700 miles, an electronic issue has arisen that neither my dealer nor GM have been able to repair. Despite replacing the TCM, the doors continue to intermittently unlock and lock, and the transmission causes the truck to slow down significantly. It is important to be aware of these issues if you are considering purchasing this vehicle.
