Chevrolet Colorado problems
The Chevrolet Colorado (sharing mechanical commonality with the GMC Canyon), is a series of compact pickup trucks (mid-size since second generation) marketed by American automaker General Motors. They were introduced in 2004 to replace the Chevrolet S-10 and GMC S-15/Sonoma compact pickups. The Colorado is named after the U.S. state of Colorado, while the Canyon would be the deep chasm between cliffs.
First generation (2004)
The Chevrolet Colorado and its twin, the GMC Canyon were jointly designed by GM's North American operations, GM's Brazil operations, and Isuzu, which began selling its own version worldwide in 2002. In late 2005, Isuzu offered a version in North America called the Isuzu i-series. This North American model Isuzu shared North American powertrains, styling, and equipment with the Colorado/Canyon twins and differed from Isuzu's worldwide offering. All Chevrolet, GMC, and Isuzu versions worldwide are based on the GMT355, itself the basis for the GMT 345-based Hummer H3. Most vehicles for markets outside North America are manufactured at a GM plant in Rayong, Thailand. All North American-market vehicles were manufactured by Shreveport Operations.
The cooperation between GM and Isuzu to build a light-duty truck and offer it in North America returns to an original arrangement the two companies had in the 1970s with the Chevrolet LUV, a rebadged Isuzu Faster.

Chevrolet Colorado 2016
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-29
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-29
- VIN: 1GCGTDE31G1
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: Power steering failure occurred while driving. This makes the truck very hard to turn. A warning message appears in the info screen “power steering assist failure” when the power steering failure happens. The only fix is to stop the truck, turn off the truck, open the drivers door, close the drivers door, and then restart the truck. The first occurrence of this failure was in July 2024. It has happened many times since: at slow and high speed, wet and dry conditions, on bumpy roads and smooth pavement. There does not seem to be a specific condition which triggers this event. Today, the power steering went out right as I was turning right. This caused me to turn very wide and forced me into the opposing lane of traffic. Thankfully, this did not cause an accident, however, the potential for an accident due to this failure is very high. A similar issue has been identified in the 2015 model year of this truck and there is an open recall for that model year but not this one. I believe the included model year list should be extended to include the 2016 model year at minimum.

I have been very satisfied with my Colorado, despite some issues with the service department. Unfortunately, they created more problems than the truck would normally have. However, I still wouldn't trade it for any other truck. I get an average of 26.9 to 28.6 mpg, depending on how I drive. I do a lot of hauling with it and have even pulled my 10' trailer with no problems. Going up hills, it has more power than I expected, which is especially important here in West Virginia where we have a lot of hills. I would highly recommend the Colorado to anyone looking for a small economy truck. Just be careful with the tires, as mine were dry rotted and needed to be replaced after only 15,000 miles. Overall, I've had a great experience with my Colorado and would definitely recommend it to others!

The truck has a lot of torque and gets pretty decent gas mileage. I put a K&N cold air intake and performance catback and it increased the power and fuel economy even more. I am in the military and use my truck to go home on leave. Gets me there without spending too much on gas. I love the style of it, looks sporty. The interior is roomy for passengers or cargo. It hauls my fourwheeler almost like it's not there.

Hi there! We recently purchased this vehicle to replace one of our Security fleet Chevy Cavaliers. We've been really impressed with its excellent acceleration and comfortable driving experience. It's been great for both city and highway driving, with a fuel mileage of nearly 30 MPG. We even used it to pull a loaded 8' trailer and hardly noticed any difference, although the fuel mileage did drop to 24 MPG on the highway. As a security vehicle, we've engaged in high speed chases with many different vehicles, and we're happy to report that the Colorado hasn't been out-run or out-performed yet!

After owning this new Duramax Colorado for 10,000 miles, and with the 'honeymoon' period now behind me, I can confirm that most of the professional review articles you will read from Chevy's pre-launch media event and test drive weekend in Solvang California are accurate. If this is your first diesel vehicle, you may find it a bit noisy at idle and low speeds, but if you have previously owned diesel vehicles, you will find it very quiet at idle and low speed driving. At highway speeds, you will hardly notice a difference in quietness and refinement between the diesel and gas options. In my view, the diesel fits this truck much better than the gas options, (and I drove all engines extensively before buying).... it's smooth and punchy without any wailing, hi rev drama. Truly satisfying with great passing. If you are looking for a 'racetruck', buy the V6 or something else. The Duramax is just adequately smooth. As for MPG, the vehicle's trip computer is overly optimistic, although its true MPG is within close specs of the EPA's rating. For example, I have had mellow 60MPH highway runs where, after 300-400 miles, the trip meter reports around 32 MPG, yet a real check with a calculator at the fuel pump revealed around 30 MPG. Still not bad, just do not buy into many of the anecdotes you will read from owners/reviewers reporting outrageous fuel mileage above and beyond the EPA's rating. (Remember, people love to boast and justify their hard earned money spent). Overall, I had a very satisfying experience with this truck. It's not perfect, but then again, we consumers have become very spoiled in our expectations of what cars should be these days. The Z71 heated seats with lumbar adjustment are great for my bad, post-surgery back. The control layout is very functional, and the overall feel (door slams, no squeaks, rattles etc.) is superb. The Bluetooth system is not perfect, but then again, what Bluetooth system is?Very rarely do hangups or glitches occur. The system works flawlessly most of the time. Apple Carplay is great, but I only use it on long trips or for navigation, as it requires you to plug in, whereas I mostly keep my phone in my pocket. Music, phone, Siri, etc. work great with the steering wheel controls. On the other hand, as a long-time fan of the Toyota product, I had eagerly been waiting for the new 2016 Tacoma to arrive throughout 2015. When it did, I test drove many of them, even rented one and drove it 100 miles, trying to love it, but I just couldn't for some reason. GM lured me over, as they proved, in my view, that they were the hungry underdog seeking to knock off the Tacoma. I believe they did just that. I just hope this truck proves as reliable as the Tacoma over the years to come. However, a current Consumer Reports rating on the new Tacoma actually has it in last place for reliability for now, so we shall see.

I had to let my S10 go due to financial reasons, but I absolutely loved the truck. I was pleasantly surprised by the Colorado, as it has proven to be just as good, if not better. The 2.8 engine provides great mileage and power, and the sound system is the best I have heard in a stock vehicle so far.

I just got the 2023 Trailboss and I love its look! However, there are a few things that could be improved. The fuel economy is poor for the turbo powered engine and the interior is just okay. It can be uncomfortable to sit in for more than 20 minutes and there are no heated seats or leather. Additionally, resetting your trip requires going through a menu to find the vehicle settings. The glare from the hood can be a bit much on sunny mornings, but at least the truck photo for the review page has an anti-glare hood application. The stereo is not the strongest and has had some issues with volume and channel control. The auto engine off feature can be a bit annoying, but it is easy to disable. The Bluetooth disconnects from your phone as soon as you start the truck for safety reasons. The truck bed can hold a half sheet of plywood and the tailgate has a storage box, which is a great feature. However, the seal on the storage box allows water in but not out. The transmission can feel a bit slow to engage, but overall it's a decent truck. I used to love Chevys, but I don't really care about the brand as long as I have a reliable truck. It's a shame the diesel option isn't available anymore though.

I really enjoy driving my 2017 Z71 4WD Colorado with the 2.8L Duramax, but unfortunately, the high pressure fuel pump replacement cost of $5k is too expensive. The diesel shops don't have the necessary equipment to do it, so I am limited to the dealership and their pricing algorithm. It's frustrating to feel powerless with no other options, but due to the diesel configuration, I have to pay the $5k even though I am still under 100,000 miles. It's understandable why Chevy only warranties up to 60,000 miles on the Colorado. Just a word of caution for anyone considering this vehicle.

I have been experiencing issues with my Chevrolet Colorado's radio (head unit) since I picked it up. Despite my efforts to resolve the issue with Autonation and Chevrolet, it has been ongoing for over a year now. Unfortunately, Autonation has informed me that there is nothing they can do about it, and Chevrolet has not been able to provide a solution either. I am disappointed with the warranty and the lack of support from both companies. As a result, I am currently trying to get it fixed well enough to trade it off, but other dealers have not been willing to offer me a fair price due to the obvious issues. I would advise caution when considering Chevrolet products.

The Fully Loaded ZR2 looks incredible with a one-of-a-kind appearance. You'll definitely stand out on the road in your city for years to come. However, the speakers are a bit low and leg room is a bit shallow. Additionally, the E-brake (or whatever the pedal is above your left foot) seems like it could be accidentally hit quite easily.

Sorry to hear about the issues you've been having with your truck. It must be frustrating to have the reduced power and check engine light come on so frequently. It sounds like you've been doing everything you can to get it resolved, but unfortunately, it still won't start. I hope the dealership can help you out tomorrow and get it towed to the shop. It's definitely not what you expect from a truck that's only a year old. Hang in there and hopefully, they can get it fixed soon.
