2014 Jaguar Xk problems

The Jaguar XK is a two-door 2+2 grand tourer manufactured and marketed by Jaguar Cars from 1996–2012 and by Jaguar Land Rover from 2013–2014 in hatchback coupé and convertible body styles, across two generations. The XK was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1996 and was discontinued in July 2014.
The first generation was marketed as the XK8, replacing the XJS and was Jaguar's first 8-cylinder model since the Daimler 250, introducing the all-new Jaguar AJ-V8 engine. The XK8 shared its platform with the Aston Martin DB7 which was itself based on the stillborn XJ41/42 project built on a modified XJ-S chassis conceived in the mid-1980s. The second generation of the XK, noted for its aluminium monocoque chassis and construction, was launched in 2006 for the 2007 model year. The XKR performance variant was introduced in both of the generations with the second generation also offering a more powerful XKR-S variant.
XK8/XKR (1996–2006)
The XK8 was launched in 1996 to replace the XJS designed by then Jaguar design director Geoff Lawson. It was available in two body styles – a two-door coupé and two-door convertible with both variations featuring 2+2 seating. The car was the first in the Jaguar line-up to use Jaguar's newly developed 32-valve V8 engine – the AJ-V8 which had a displacement of 4.0 litres.
The XK8 was joined by a more powerful XKR in 1998. The XKR featured a supercharged variation of the V8 engine rated at 276 kW (375 PS; 370 hp). The engine was shared with the XJR but featured a new intercooler and a two-piece driveshaft. The supercharger was manufactured by Eaton and displaced at 2.0 litres. It generated 11.9 pounds of boost pressure to contribute to the higher power output. Visual differences from the XK8 included a rear spoiler, mesh front grille and hood louvres on the bonnet for improved airflow to the engine.
The XK8 came standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, while 18-inch (standard on the XKR), 19-inch, and 20-inch wheels were available for the XK8 and XKR at an additional cost. Jaguar's Adaptive Cruise Control is an optional feature available on both models. Both models came with all-leather interior, burl walnut trim, and side airbags. Two interior configurations were offered, the sport configuration was aimed at young buyers and had a leather interior with cloth seats while the classic trim featured more amenities.
The XK range received a mechanical update in 2002 with the engines in both the XK8 and XKR models being enlarged to 4.2 litres and gaining more power, the front headlamps were also updated by the addition of a clear lens. Further changes included new exterior colours and wheels along with different badging. The models were revised again in spring 2004 and notable changes included new wheel designs, bigger front and rear spoilers and a redesigned grille.
Initially, the ZF 5HP24 five-speed automatic transmission was coupled to the conventionally aspirated 4.0-litre model and a Mercedes W5A580 five-speed transmission to the supercharged version, but in 2002 the new ZF 6HP26 six-speed automatic transmission was fitted in both versions of the 4.2-litre model.

Common 2014 Jaguar Xk problems
Based on the complaints from owners of the 2014 Jaguar XK, several common problems have been reported:
- Suspension Problems: Some owners have reported issues with the active suspension system, where the shocks can become unresponsive, leading to a rough ride over bumps and potholes, affecting the handling and causing the car to sway easily.
- Battery Drain: Complaints include batteries unexpectedly draining, which can lead to starting issues and other electrical malfunctions.
- Tyre Wear: The Jaguar XK is known to have tyres that wear quickly, which can be costly to replace, so it's advised to check the tread depth before purchasing.
- Roof Freezing: For convertible models, there have been reports of the fabric roof freezing, potentially causing operational issues and leaks.
- Cabin Comfort: Some owners have mentioned that the cabin can feel claustrophobic, especially in the rear seats, which are cramped even for small children.
- Reliability Concerns: While some owners have praised the reliability of their Jaguar XK models, others have expressed concerns about maintenance costs and occasional issues exceeding £1500 when they occur.
These reported problems highlight a range of issues that owners of the 2014 Jaguar XK may encounter, from electrical glitches to suspension and comfort-related issues. It's essential for potential buyers to be aware of these common problems and consider them when evaluating the purchase of a used Jaguar XK.
Is the Jaguar XK engine reliable?
As such, the later years of the Jaguar XK X150, particularly those with the 5.0-liter V8 engine (2009 and onwards), are widely considered more reliable over time. However, it's important to note that individual car maintenance and care can significantly impact a vehicle's reliability, regardless of its model year.
Are Jaguar XKS reliable?
While the Jaguar XK is considered a reliable luxury coupe as a whole, some years are simply less reliable than others. So for today's post, we highlight the Jaguar XK years to avoid if you're looking to buy a used model.
Is the Jaguar XK expensive to maintain?
The average annual repair cost for a Jaguar is $1,123, which means it has average ownership costs.
What are the most common problems with a used Jaguar XK coupe?
Electrics can go haywire, and batteries can flatten for no obvious reason. Other faults include the engine management light coming on, and the car's keyless entry and ignition system playing up. The air-con and heating system can also give up the ghost, with dealers requiring replacement parts to fix the fault.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-03-24
- VIN: SAJWA4GB5EL
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: THE FUEL LINE BECAME DISCONNECTED FROM THE TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL LEAKED ONTO THE ASPHALT. . THIS HAPPENED WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT. IT WAS REPAIRED BY THE DEALER WHO FOUND THAT THE CONNECTION POINT OF THE FUEL LINE ON THE "TOP HAT"HAD OPENED AND THAT THE TOP HAT WAS DAMAGED. THIS CONNECTION IS AT THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK AND WAS NEVER SERVICED, IT APPEARS THAT THE.CONNECTION FAILED DUE THE POLYMER MATERIAL DETERIORATING AND CRACKING.
TIRES,WHEELS,EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2013-12-18
- Components: TIRES,WHEELS,EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: THIS CAR (AS WELL AS SEVERAL OTHER SPORTS CARS) COMES WITH HIGH PERFORMANCE TIRES WITH SO LITTLE TRACTION IN RAIN AND SNOW THAT THEY TOTALLY DEFEAT THE PURPOSE OF THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES AND STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEMS. THESE TIRES ARE SO SMOOTH THAT THEY WILL HYDRO-PLANE AT 30 MPH DURING A HARD RAIN. IN ONLY INCH OF SNOW, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES AND STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEMS DO NOT WORK AT ALL DO TO THE TOTAL ABSENCE OF TRACTION. ABOVE 5 MPH IN INCH OF SNOW THERE IS NO STEERING CONTROL AS THERE IS NOT ENOUGH TRACTION. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF MANDATING ANTI-LOCK BRAKES AND STABILITY CONTROL WHEN YOU LET MANUFACTURERS PUT TIRES ON THE CAR THAT DEFEAT THEM IN ORDINARY DRIVING CONDITIONS? RAIN AND SNOW ARE NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS IN MOST OF THE US. THE CAD COMES WITH A HEATED WINDSHIELD, HEATING SEATS, HEATED STEERING WHEEL, HEATED SIDE MIRRORS AND A WINTER DRIVING MODE FOR THE TRANSMISSION, ALL INDICATING THAT THIS CAR IS MADE FOR WINTER DRIVING, YET IT IS TOTALLY UNSAFE TO DRIVE IN THE WINTER. THE TIRES ARE INTENDED TO BE SAFE AT 155 MPH (THE CAR'S MAX SPEED), YET THERE IS NO STATE IN THE COUNTRY WITH SPEED LIMITS WITHIN 70 MPH OF THAT. HOW DOES THIS MAKE ANY SENSE? MOST CONSUMERS DRIVE FAR MORE OFTEN IN RAIN AND SNOW THAN WE DO AT 150 MPH IN PERFECT CONDITIONS. PLEASE MANDATE SAFE TIRES ON NEW CARS. I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES ON GRADES AS LOW A 1% AND IN TRYING TO TURN CORNERS WITH ONLY INCH OF SNOW ON THE GROUND. I HAD TO STOP DRIVING IT ALL WINTER. *TR
STEERING,WHEELS,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2013-12-18
- Components: STEERING,WHEELS,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
- Summary: I BOUGHT A NEW XK IN AUGUST. I HAVE TO QUESTION THE RATIONALE FOR EQUIPPING IT WITH HIGH PERFORMANCE TIRES (VIRTUAL RACING SLICKS) IN MINNESOTA. ON A WARM SUMMER DAY WITH ONLY A LITTLE RAIN, THE TIRES LOSE TRACTION FREQUENTLY. IN WINTER THEY ARE DOWNRIGHT DANGEROUS. EVEN WITH ONLY AN INCH OF SNOW, THE FRONT WHEELS LOSE TRACTION IN GOING AROUND A CORNER AT ONLY FIVE MILES AN HOUR. THE REAL WHEELS HAVE SO LITTLE TRACTION THAT EVEN WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL AND STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEMS TURNED ON, THE REAR END FISHTAILS WHEN TURNING. OUR STREET IS FLAT AND YET, WITH ONLY A LITTLE SNOW ON THE ROAD, THE CAR CAN NOT MOVE OVER 2 -3 MPH WITHOUT LOSING TRACTION SO IT INCHES ALONG, IF IT MOVES AT ALL. IT SEEMS TO BE THE HEIGHT OF STUPIDITY TO ASSUME THAT MOST DRIVERS WOULD DRIVE OVER 120 MILES AND HOUR MORE OFTEN THAN THEY DRIVE IN RAIN OR SNOW. WHAT ARE THE JAGUAR MARKETING PEOPLE (AND NHTSA) THINKING? PEOPLE WHO CAN AFFORD TO PAY $90,000 FOR A CAR WANT SOMETHING THAT IS SAFE AND THEY DON'T DRIVE OVER 120 MPH SO DON'T NEED OR WANT HIGH PERFORMANCE RACING TIRES THAT ARE SUITABLE ONLY FOR DRY PAVEMENT. WHAT GOOD DOES IT DO TO REQUIRE CARS TO COME EQUIPPED WITH REACTION CONTROL AND STABILITY CONTROL WHEN THEY ARE ALLOWED TO EQUIP A CAR WITH TIRES THAT TOTALLY DEFEAT THOSE SYSTEMS? YOU REQUIRE AIR BAGS, CENTER TAIL LIGHTS, ETC, IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY, BUT ALLOW CARS TO BE SOLD WITH DANGEROUS TIRES UNSUITABLE FOR THE CLIMATE THEY ARE TO BE DRIVEN IN. SHOULDN'T NHTSA REQUIRE CARS TO BE EQUIPPED WITH SAFE TIRES WHEN THEY ARE SOLD? IF SOMEONE WANTS TO BUY UNSAFE TIRES AFTER THAT, OK; BUT I SHOULD BE ABLE TO EXPECT A CAR TO BE SAFE UNDER TYPICAL DRIVING CONDITIONS WHEN I BUY IT. RAIN AND SNOW ARE TYPICAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. *TR
2014 Jaguar Xk recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 2014 Jaguar Xk.
- Manufacturer: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 Jaguar XK vehicles manufactured March 4, 2011, to March 20, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the front side lamps (parking lamps) may turn off after approximately 5 minutes. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
- Consequence: If the parking lamps turn off, the vehicle will have reduced conspicuity, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will update software that controls the front side lamps, free of charge. The recall began March 5, 2015. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar's number for this recall is J049.
- Manufacturer: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC
- Components: EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELS
- Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 XK (XKR and XKR-S) vehicles manufactured August 24, 2012, to June 10, 2014, and equipped with a 5.0L engine. The tire placard has incorrect information for the spare tire stating "none" for the inflation pressure of the spare wheel. Thus, these vehicles do not comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 110, "Tire Selection and Rims for Passenger Cars."
- Consequence: If the recommended pressure for the spare tire is not provided, the tire may not be properly inflated which may result in its failure, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and, as necessary, attach a corrected tire placard label stating the tire size and pressure, free of charge. The recall began on August 29, 2014. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar's number for this recall is J041.

- Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 XJ, XF and XK vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the toe links, components used to control the alignment of the rear wheels, can separate from the rear sub-frame.
- Consequence: If a toe link separates from the rear sub-frame, a loss of vehicle stability and directional control may result, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Jaguar notified owners on May 8, 2014, and dealers will replace the nut and washer assembly on the rear toe links, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin around May 27, 2014. Owners may contact Jaguar at 1-855-524-8278. Jaguar's number for this recall is J037.
- Manufacturer: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 XK convertible vehicles manufactured October 1, 2010, through August 1, 2013. The switch in the overhead roof console also activates the power operated windows when the convertible roof is opening or closing. The switch does not move downward to close the windows. Therefore, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 118, "Power-Operated Window, Partition, and Roof Panel Systems."
- Consequence: The power windows may inadvertently be activated and pinch or injure an arm or finger.
- Remedy: Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the overhead roof console, free of charge. The recall began on October 1, 2013. Owners may contact Jaguar at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar's recall number is J030.

Wow, it sounds like you really put your XK to the test! Despite all those miles, it's amazing to hear that the car never needed anything more than a new wiper blade. The biggest challenge seems to have been keeping it under the speed limit, as the car is most comfortable cruising at 80-90 mph. And those directional headlights are a real lifesaver on those winding country roads!

This car has had no rattles or repairs and has been taken on the track twice. Despite this, there is still life in the P zeros! The car loves to be driven hard on the track, with no break fade or overheating. On the street, it is very smooth and easy to drive, without being high strung or difficult. The stability control system in track mode is so liberal that it's hard to tell the difference from track mode and full off! The car sticks like it has glue on the tires, but it does have snap over-steer and needs to be driven with respect if you intend to drive with the traction control in track mode or off (not!). The rear end can be very light and twitchy, but that is part of what makes it exciting! A couple of years later, I traded the XKRS in for an F Type R. Although the F Type R is a far better sports car, the XKRS is a great GT car that I miss. The back seats were very convenient, and I never had a problem with the car during my 3 years of ownership. The problem with the XKRS is the snap over-steer. If you leave the stability control system on, the car is perfectly safe and fun to drive. Jaguar has a way of making their cars feel special. Whenever I get in and start getting the car ready to drive, I can feel my heart step up a beat with excitement. It's really hard to put your finger on what exactly makes driving a Jaguar exciting. My Father's BMW 740 didn't do that for me, and neither has any other car that I have driven. I guess that's why I keep buying Jaguars. A neighbor from down the street asked me if I worked for Jaguar because of all the different Jaguars that he has seen in front of my house. I said no, I just like them.

The car has plenty of 'giddy-up-go' with its normally aspirated engine, which boasts 385 horsepower. While the ride may be a bit stiff and not as silky smooth as the sales brochure implies, it's important to remember that this is a sport-touring vehicle. The interior is superb, and the car is classed as a Portfolio edition with some extra options. Instead of an oil dipstick, there is an electronic readout on the dashboard. The trunk is a bit tight and can be difficult to fit a set of golf clubs in. Unfortunately, the car uses plastic headlamp covers, which may become yellowed, glazed, and scratched over time, unlike my '05 XK8 glass ones. Additionally, there is no sunglass compartment built into the left side of the dashboard as there was in my '05 XK8. However, the car is reliable, well-built, and boasts a gorgeous design that is sure to turn heads. It's a classy car with a well-balanced, simple design. For safety, I had my local dealer program 'daylight running lights,' and I am now considering installing a rearview camera. Overall, I love my Jaguar XK, even though it has no variable utility other than getting me from point A to point B in style. For grunt duty, I use my '14 GMC Terrain. I recently bought a 'T' shirt that reads: 'YOU CAN'T BUY HAPPINESS, BUT YOU CAN BUY A JAGUAR XK AND THAT'S KIND OF THE SAME THING.'

The car is impressively quick with instant power. The cabin is just as nice as one would expect from Jaguar. The service is very reasonable, with an oil change and engine review costing only $179. The car only requires one oil change per year. The lines of the car are perfect and the look is very distinctive compared to those of MBZ, BMW, and Audi. The looks blow the German competitors away.

You know what? This is one of the best vehicles I've ever owned, and I've owned a handful! I truly believe that a car says more about its owner than it does being an automobile.

The engine has unfortunately seized after 15k miles, despite being under warranty. It is disappointing that Jaguar has not taken responsibility for this issue. However, I have decided to switch to BMW for my future car purchases. Thank you for considering my experience with Jaguar.
