2008 Chevrolet Aveo problems
The Chevrolet Aveo (/əˈveɪ.oʊ/ ə-VAY-oh) is a five-passenger, front-drive subcompact car (B-segment) marketed by General Motors (GM) since 2002 over two generations. Originally developed by South Korean manufacturer Daewoo Motors and marketed as the Daewoo Kalos, the takeover of Daewoo by GM to form GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GMDAT) resulted in the car's marketing in 120 countries under seven brands (Chevrolet, Daewoo, ZAZ, Holden, Pontiac, Ravon and Suzuki) — prominently as the Aveo.
The second-generation Aveo, developed by GM Korea (formerly GMDAT), was introduced in 2011 and was also marketed as the Chevrolet Sonic in markets including the Americas, Japan, Middle East, South Africa and several Southeast Asian markets. Production of the second-generation model ended in October 2020.
Since 2017, GM marketed the Chinese market Chevrolet Sail sedan in Mexico and other Central American countries as the Aveo. Developed by GM PATAC in China and produced by joint venture SAIC-GM, it was positioned below the more advanced Sonic. In 2023, GM imported a new version to Mexico in a sedan and hatchback form, developed and manufactured by another Chinese joint venture, SAIC-GM-Wuling.

Common 2008 Chevrolet Aveo problems
The 2008 Chevrolet Aveo, a compact car produced by General Motors, has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from its owners. Here are some of the most frequently mentioned issues:
- Airbag Issues: Approximately half of the 159 complaints filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) are related to airbag problems. Drivers have reported airbag warning lights blinking on for no apparent reason, which can be a serious safety concern.
- Electrical Problems: The 2008 Chevrolet Aveo has generated 43 electrical complaints, including sudden power loss, failing tail lights, and unexplained Check Engine Lights. Some drivers have suggested that these issues may be due to a soldering defect.
- Engine Stall and Power Loss: A few drivers have reported engine stall and power loss while in motion. In some instances, this only happens once, while in others it happens repeatedly. There have been no engine recalls thus far, but this can be a significant safety concern if it occurs while driving.
- Transmission Problems: Some drivers have reported difficulty shifting gears, particularly from 1 to 2. This can be a sign of a more significant transmission issue, which can be costly to repair.
- Faulty Turn Signal Switch: The turn signal switch has been identified as a common problem in the Chevrolet Aveo. This can lead to issues with the car's electrical system and may require replacement of the switch.
- Failing Ignition Coils: Ignition coils are a critical component of the car's ignition system. Failing ignition coils can lead to issues with starting the car, misfiring, and reduced engine performance.
- Broken Idler Pulley: The idler pulley is a component of the car's serpentine belt system. A broken idler pulley can lead to issues with the car's electrical system and may require replacement of the pulley.
- Faulty Timing Belt: The timing belt is a critical component of the car's engine. A faulty timing belt can lead to engine damage and may require replacement of the belt.
These are some of the most common problems reported by owners of the 2008 Chevrolet Aveo. It is essential to note that not all cars of this model will experience these issues, but it is crucial to be aware of them and to address them promptly if they occur. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent many of these problems from occurring or becoming more severe.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-19
- Fire: 1
- VIN: KL1TD66618B
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: There was no prior warnings or notices that there was an issue. While diving on a major road with my children, smoke started coming into the cabin from the vents, and around the stereo. Luckily I was near a very vacant parking lot and immediately pulled over. I removed the kids from the car safely and did open the hood to try troubleshoot the problem. There was no smoke anywhere under the hood. Immediately after, sparks started falling from under the steering wheel to the gas pedal. Immediately after that the car was engulfed in flames. The car is currently located at my local police impound and is available for inspection upon request. From the time the smoke started to when the car was engulfed, it was approximately 5 minutes. This could have been dangerous had we been on a highway and unable to pull over and get out of the car safely within that time. It was only inspected briefly by the fire department who arrived to put out the fire and they reported it was an electrical issue that caused the fire.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-12-29
- VIN: KL1TD56628B
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN THE 81,100 - 81,300 MILES MARK MY VEHICLE HAS RECEIVED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT P2135 CODE, FOR THROTTLE/PEDAL SENSOR/SWITCH A / B VOLTAGE CORRELATION. AT THE TIME OF RECEIVING THE CODE I DID NOT NOTICE ANYTHING IRREGULAR UNTIL I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM. ONE OF THE SYMPTOMS BEING, REVVING OF THE ENGINE WHEN GAS PEDAL IS NOT PRESSED. THAT'S WHEN I REALIZED MY CAR HAD BEEN DOING THAT JUST RECENTLY ON START UP BEFORE RECEIVING THE CODE. FINALLY AFTER ABOUT A MONTH, DRIVING VERY MINIMALLY MAYBE 10 SHORTS TRIPS OR LESS, THE CAR STALLED OUT AFTER APPROXIMATELY 0.1 MILES OF BELOW 15MPH DRIVING. I GOT OUT AND CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD AND I DIDNT SEE ANYTHING WRONG SO I BEGAN TO PUSH THE CAR BACK HOME. AFTER I REALIZED IT WOULD TAKE SOME MANEUVERING I DECIDED TO TRY STARTING THE CAR BACKUP AND IT DID SO I QUICKLY TURNED IT AROUND AND DROVE IT BACK HOME. STALLING OF THE ENGINE IS ALSO A SYMPTOM OF THE P2135 CODE. SINCE THAN OUT OF NECESSITY I'VE DRIVEN THE CAR TWICE FOR 13 MILE TRIPS WITHOUT STALLING OUT BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS NOT GONE AWAY. THE ENGINE STILL REVS ON ITS ON START UP UNTIL FINALLY SETTLING INTO CONSISTENCY. AFTER TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT EXACTLY NEEDS REPLACING ONLINE, IT APPEARS EVIDENT TO ME THAT A LARGE AMOUNT CHEVY AVEOS NO MATTER THE YEAR OR SPECIFIC MODEL, ENCOUNTER THIS PROBLEM. IT'S JUST A MATTER OF HOW MANY OWNERS TALKED ABOUT THE PROBLEM ONLINE AND REPORTED IT. THOSE WHO HAVE TAKEN IT ONLINE FIXED THE PROBLEM BY CLEANING THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH ONLY LASTED FOR SO LONG AND COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE OR GETTING A WHOLE NEW THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY WITH A NEW THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR ATTACHED.

This car not only was very affordable to buy, it has also proven to be very reliable. Additionally, it is surprisingly spacious and quite quiet. For basic transportation, it doesn't get much better than this. I used to be hesitant about Korean-built cars, but I am completely sold on this one.
-
While searching for a used car, I came across an '08 Aveo that caught my eye. Despite a cracked front bumper, the car looked great and I decided to buy it on the spot. As a grandma who drives a lot, I was pleased to find that the Aveo gets great gas mileage. Although the check engine light was flickering, the mechanic assured me that it only needed a new O2 sensor. With only 48,000 miles, the car runs and drives like new. Plus, I was able to find a replacement bumper online for just $130!
-
All in all, this car is really fun to drive and has lots of room. I didn't feel cramped at all, even though I'm over 6 ft tall. It's small, but it makes you feel like you're in a larger car. It's a great value for what you get! I actually paid more for my bike than I did for this car. It's perfect for my long commutes to the oil sands.
-
This is a fantastic small car! The interior comfort and quality exceeded my expectations for a car of this size. I absolutely love the exterior design. In terms of mileage, I have been getting over 40 miles to the gallon while driving to work and running errands. Even though I drive carefully, I still believe that this car outperforms others in its class in terms of cost and efficiency. In my opinion, this is the best small car I have ever owned. When you consider the price and mileage, it is the most affordable car to own. I cannot recommend it enough!
-
I wanted to write this review because I noticed that some people have complained about this lovely car. I got an '08 Chevy Aveo because I needed something better for my job, and this car fit perfectly. While it may not have the power of a Corvette, it gets me from point A to point B, and it's a nice family car with a sporty look!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my car that I bought back in 2008 when gas prices were starting to rise. Initially, I was getting around 24-28 miles per gallon in the city and 36-38 on the highway, but unfortunately, it's been getting barely 20 in the city and 26 on the highways lately. I've taken it to the dealership a few times, but they haven't found any error codes on the computer, so they say everything is fine. I did have to replace the tires at 7500 miles, which was a bit unexpected. Additionally, I had to replace the front end rods, and they're starting to squeak again. The interior is also starting to wear off, and the door handles are giving me some trouble. Despite all of this, I'm still hopeful that things will improve. Thanks for listening!

I've been driving this car for three months now. In mostly suburban driving, with a roundtrip distance to work of 20 miles each day, I average 22.5 MPG. I also use it to deliver papers every morning, which takes about 30 minutes. I used to do the same routine in a Honda Civic, which had a larger engine and got 30 MPG. I must admit that I'm disappointed with the fuel economy. Even during open road driving, you can visibly watch the gas gauge drop. Additionally, it's a bit inconvenient that you can't lock the driver side door except by using the key, especially when you have bundles to carry and/or it's raining.

Although these cars have a good safety rating, it seems that the passenger airbag protection is not provided for passengers weighing less than 120 lbs. If you weigh less than 100 lbs and sit on the passenger side, the airbag will not activate. We have had some trouble with this issue and have taken the car back to the dealer three times, each time averaging four days, but unfortunately, they have not been able to fix the problem. We have also noticed this problem in rental cars from 2009 and 2010. The service manager has stated that no problem exists because the computer did not register any faults, but we are still concerned. We hope that this issue can be resolved soon.

I've had my Chevy Aveo for a year now. Recently, I placed my dog in the back seat and shut the door. As I walked around to the driver's side, I noticed that the hatchback window had shattered. Unfortunately, it cost $1000 to replace. While the gas mileage and space for a small 4-door car are great, I do think that some of the car's parts are cheaply designed and can be expensive to replace. Overall, it's been a decent car, but there are some areas for improvement.

This is a great little car for people who drive a lot! It's comfortable, reliable, and the gas price is excellent, especially if you get the federal reimbursement rate. I just wanted to let you know that I've had some trouble with the front tires wearing unevenly on the outsides. It's something to keep in mind, as I've put 28,000 miles on this car since buying it brand new with only 13 miles. I'm already on my second set of tires and will need new ones to pass state inspection. Another Oveo driver I know has had the same issue. The tires are rotated and balanced appropriately, but it seems like they may need to be replaced yearly. Other than that, I haven't had any other problems with the car!
