Chevrolet Aveo problems
The Chevrolet Aveo (/əˈveɪ.oʊ/ ə-VAY-oh) is a five-passenger, front-drive subcompact car (B-segment) marketed by General Motors (GM) since 2002 over two generations. Originally developed by South Korean manufacturer Daewoo Motors and marketed as the Daewoo Kalos, the takeover of Daewoo by GM to form GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GMDAT) resulted in the car's marketing in 120 countries under seven brands (Chevrolet, Daewoo, ZAZ, Holden, Pontiac, Ravon and Suzuki) — prominently as the Aveo.
The second-generation Aveo, developed by GM Korea (formerly GMDAT), was introduced in 2011 and was also marketed as the Chevrolet Sonic in markets including the Americas, Japan, Middle East, South Africa and several Southeast Asian markets. Production of the second-generation model ended in October 2020.
Since 2017, GM marketed the Chinese market Chevrolet Sail sedan in Mexico and other Central American countries as the Aveo. Developed by GM PATAC in China and produced by joint venture SAIC-GM, it was positioned below the more advanced Sonic. In 2023, GM imported a new version to Mexico in a sedan and hatchback form, developed and manufactured by another Chinese joint venture, SAIC-GM-Wuling.

- Summary: There was no prior warnings or notices that there was an issue. While diving on a major road with my children, smoke started coming into the cabin from the vents, and around the stereo. Luckily I was near a very vacant parking lot and immediately pulled over. I removed the kids from the car safely and did open the hood to try troubleshoot the problem. There was no smoke anywhere under the hood. Immediately after, sparks started falling from under the steering wheel to the gas pedal. Immediately after that the car was engulfed in flames. The car is currently located at my local police impound and is available for inspection upon request. From the time the smoke started to when the car was engulfed, it was approximately 5 minutes. This could have been dangerous had we been on a highway and unable to pull over and get out of the car safely within that time. It was only inspected briefly by the fire department who arrived to put out the fire and they reported it was an electrical issue that caused the fire.

Congratulations on your brand new car! It's great to hear that you had a smooth 1306-mile drive from Tampa Florida to Detroit Michigan. It sounds like the Aveo is a reliable car, especially on the freeway and mountains. It's also wonderful to hear that your coworkers and friends love it too. With its spacious interior and user-friendly dash, it's no surprise that strangers have asked you about it. Even though the gas mileage in the city isn't the best, it's still a great car to have. It's fantastic that you're enjoying your first Chevy and I hope it continues to impress you!

I can relate to your story about your car. It was a gift from your dad when you got your driver's license and it had all the bells and whistles at the time. It served you well for many years, but over time, some things did go wrong. The drivers door lock fell, hinges were creaky and stiff, headlights burnt out constantly, and it did not hold up in accidents. That last one always made you somewhat scared to get in your vehicle. Despite these issues, it was a great first car and you loved it. Unfortunately, it was rear-ended a month ago and because of the poor quality of the vehicle, it caused more damage than what the vehicle was worth. You said your goodbyes today and are now beginning your search for a new car. Thank you for sharing your story with me.

This car not only was very affordable to buy, it has also proven to be very reliable. Additionally, it is surprisingly spacious and quite quiet. For basic transportation, it doesn't get much better than this. I used to be hesitant about Korean-built cars, but I am completely sold on this one.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with the 2009 Aveo. I'm really happy with my purchase - it's a compact car with great gas mileage, and it's been a lot of fun to drive. I've been pleasantly surprised by how well it rides, and I'm getting 32 MPG in the city, which is fantastic. I think GM has really stepped up their game with this one. The car has more pick up than I expected, although it struggles a bit on upgrades - but that's to be expected with a compact car. I've had it for about a month now, and I haven't noticed any blind spots - the side windows are nice and big. The engine runs quietly, and it's been a smooth ride on the highway. The only downside is that it's made in Korea, but overall I think it's a great option for anyone looking for a compact car. Thanks for listening!

This little car feels way bigger inside than out. I always joke with my wife about how small it is (it's hers but I drive it sometimes). Once inside, I feel as if I'm in a normal-sized sedan, and I drive a minivan, so I really thought it would feel like a go-kart. Anyone complaining about the peppiness or speed is out of their mind. I don't know what people want, a rocket?

The car's AC system struggles to cool the car during stop and go driving, making it uncomfortable to drive in the afternoon heat of Las Vegas. Additionally, the gas mileage has dropped to 25 mpg and the sight lines are surprisingly poor due to the large support columns blocking a lot of the driver's vision. Despite these issues, I remain confident in my assessment of the car's performance.

I bought the car used with 25K miles. During my first long drive of 200 miles on the highway, I was only able to get an average gas mileage of 24mpg, which was a bit disappointing. I had some trouble accelerating enough to merge with traffic, and other drivers honked and flashed their lights at me, which was frustrating. Unfortunately, after only 10 days of owning the car, the check engine light came on during a snowstorm in Minnesota, and the car decelerated to 5 miles per hour, nearly causing an accident. It was a scary experience, and I was disappointed that there was no warning. When I turned on the heat, the engine began to die, and I heard a cracking sound from the motor. In the end, I decided to get rid of the car.

I own a 97 Geo Metro and my wife has the Aveo. At first, she loved it, but after a while, she noticed some instability during windy conditions due to the twist beam axle that was not apparent with the fully independent suspension in the Metro. Additionally, the build quality, not material quality, is greatly superior in the Metro. Overall, fuel economy is better with the three-speed auto in the Metro than with the four-speed O/D auto in the Aveo. I am not impressed with the Aveo and am now regretting it.

Three months ago, I traded in my truck for a car with better gas mileage. We found an Aveo, which my parents and the dealer (who happens to be my father's cousin) recommended. However, I have had some issues with the car. The gas mileage is not as good as I expected, as I only get around 25 miles per gallon, even though I mostly drive on highways or back roads. Additionally, the car does not perform well in the snow, even with studded directionals. The heater makes a loud ticking noise, especially on the highway, and the radio cuts out when I turn on the rear window defrost. Sometimes, there is a whistling noise when I hit 60mph or lower. The interior looks and feels cheaply made, and overall, the car does not meet my expectations. Despite these issues, I am hopeful that I can find a solution to these problems and enjoy my car more.

The car's acceleration may not be the best, but its good fuel economy more than makes up for it. I've owned this car for just under a year now and have unfortunately been experiencing some issues with it lately. Despite this, the dealership has been very helpful in fixing the problems, although it has required a few visits. Overall, I still love the car, but as they say, you get what you pay for. Despite the cheap price, it's still a great car.
