The Chevrolet Aveo (/əˈveɪ.oʊ/ ə-VAY-oh) is a five-passenger, front-drive subcompact car (B-segment) marketed by General Motors (GM) since 2002 over two generations. Originally developed by South Korean manufacturer Daewoo Motors and marketed as the Daewoo Kalos, the takeover of Daewoo by GM to form GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GMDAT) resulted in the car's marketing in 120 countries under seven brands (Chevrolet, Daewoo, ZAZ, Holden, Pontiac, Ravon and Suzuki) — prominently as the Aveo.
The second-generation Aveo, developed by GM Korea (formerly GMDAT), was introduced in 2011 and was also marketed as the Chevrolet Sonic in markets including the Americas, Japan, Middle East, South Africa and several Southeast Asian markets. Production of the second-generation model ended in October 2020.
Since 2017, GM marketed the Chinese market Chevrolet Sail sedan in Mexico and other Central American countries as the Aveo. Developed by GM PATAC in China and produced by joint venture SAIC-GM, it was positioned below the more advanced Sonic. In 2023, GM imported a new version to Mexico in a sedan and hatchback form, developed and manufactured by another Chinese joint venture, SAIC-GM-Wuling.

- Summary: There was no prior warnings or notices that there was an issue. While diving on a major road with my children, smoke started coming into the cabin from the vents, and around the stereo. Luckily I was near a very vacant parking lot and immediately pulled over. I removed the kids from the car safely and did open the hood to try troubleshoot the problem. There was no smoke anywhere under the hood. Immediately after, sparks started falling from under the steering wheel to the gas pedal. Immediately after that the car was engulfed in flames. The car is currently located at my local police impound and is available for inspection upon request. From the time the smoke started to when the car was engulfed, it was approximately 5 minutes. This could have been dangerous had we been on a highway and unable to pull over and get out of the car safely within that time. It was only inspected briefly by the fire department who arrived to put out the fire and they reported it was an electrical issue that caused the fire.

Some customers may comment on an intermittent malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) being Illuminated with a message or an indicator that displays Reduced Engine Power. The technician may observe on a scan tool DTC P2138 - Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor 1-2 Correlation set as Current or in History. This condition may be caused by water intrusion into the instrument panel (IP) to body harness connector, which carries the APP sensor signals to the ECM/PCM. This water intrusion results in a voltage difference between APP Sensor 1 and APP Sensor 2 that exceeds a predetermined value for more than a calibrated period of time, setting P2138. This technical bulletin provides repair information for repairing the ip to body harness connector to correct a customer concern for intermittent malfunction indicator lamp (mil) illuminated with reduced engine power displayed and dtc p2138 set. Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with this vehicle. I bought it mainly for its fuel economy, and I have to say, I'm really impressed! In normal driving, I consistently get between 36-40 mpg, and when I'm extra careful, I've even gotten several tankfuls with 43-45 mpg! Of course, if I'm running it hard on the freeway (80+ mph), the mileage drops a bit to the 30-33 range, but that's to be expected. The comfort level is really good for a car of this class - it's comparable to my old Honda Civic. I especially love the lumbar support in the driver's seat. The transmission is geared really well to deal with the car's modest engine torque while coming up to speed, and it cruises really well at highway speeds. I haven't encountered any high speed or crosswind instability, which is great. Overall, I think this vehicle is built really tight, and after 3500 miles, it has proven to be quite reliable. The cornering and braking are better than I expected too! Thanks for listening to my experience.

I purchased this basic car to commute 105 miles to my job, which adds up to 525 miles per week. Surprisingly, the car lasted for six years without any major issues, despite never having a tune-up and only receiving regular oil changes and tire replacements. Unfortunately, the car encountered a setback when mice built a nest under the timing belt, causing it to skip sprocket teeth and bend several valves. After spending $1800 on repairs, the car is still running and I hope to keep it for a few more years, using it for short trips within my town. Although the trade-in value is only $74 according to Edmunds, I have declared war on the local mouse population by adopting six outside cats, purchasing a pellet rifle, and encouraging predatory birds to nest in our woodlot. However, due to rust, the car is no longer inspectable and will likely be sent to an auto recycler or donated to my local PBS radio station this summer.

I love it! It's such a great feeling to have switched from a gas hog truck that only got 13 mpg to this car that gets about 40 mpg. So far, everything has been great and I haven't had to go back to the dealer except for an oil change. I'm not worried though, because I bought an extended warranty. While it's not the quickest car out there, it's definitely a safe one.

I highly recommend this car to anyone looking for a small, simple, and economical vehicle. My initial driving experience has exceeded all expectations. The first tank of gas, with 60/40 highway/city driving for two different drivers, yielded an impressive 32.8 mpg. The engine performance is more than adequate for an economy car, although it's not particularly fast. The ride is comfortable, and the forward dash and high ceilings create a spacious interior. I was initially looking for a used car, but the price of a new one (with A/C installed by the dealer) was well within my budget.

Our car has been in the shop for three months out of the three months we've owned it due to the front end staying out of alignment. Despite their inability to fix the issue, we had to request a swap out or buy back. Unfortunately, the issue still hasn't been resolved. It's disappointing that General Motors seems to prioritize money over customer satisfaction and safety. As a result, I have lost faith in Chevrolet and will not be purchasing from them again. It's time for someone to step up and prioritize customer satisfaction instead of making excuses to stall the buyer.

I have had this car since the beginning, but unfortunately, it has been nothing but trouble. I have experienced issues with the radio and heater, where the car stays on even after turning it off. Although the dealership has attempted to fix it several times, the problem persists. Additionally, I have had problems with the timing belt, temperature casing, and back wheel, which have all required replacement. The transmission also sticks, and there has been an issue with oil or some other fluid spraying out. The brake switch has had to be replaced twice. It has been a frustrating experience, and I reached out to the Chevy main plant to express my concerns, but unfortunately, they were unable to assist me. I bought this car used with 48 thousand miles on it and I was pleasantly surprised to find that no engine repairs have been needed despite its 1.6 liter engine. Additionally, I was impressed by how roomy this compact car is and that I get the advertised mpg. The car handles well and the 100 thousand 5 year powertrain warranty and rust protection warranty are big pluses that attracted me to purchase. Although this car is very basic with no frills like power locks or windows, blue tooth, cruise control, or GPS, the exterior design looks sleek. Overall, I would definitely recommend this car to my friends.

Hi there! I recently purchased a used 2006 Aveo LT hatchback with 103025 miles on it. According to the carfax, it had regular service done as per the manual. Overall, the car runs great! However, I did have an issue with the brakes initially. Despite having scheduled maintenance done, the brakes felt very weak. It almost felt like the car was too heavy for the brakes it came with. I tried replacing the brake pads and rotors with OEM quality replacements, which did improve the braking slightly, but it still feels a bit too heavy.

My extended warranty covered almost all of my car problems, but I found that most repairs cost less than $300. Although the interior quality could be improved, I am not a fan of the cheap plastic siding. It is common for some parts to break, such as the windshield wipers, but this is not unique to my car. Unfortunately, the caps on my wheels have been stolen multiple times. I have experienced a few issues with the air conditioning, but they were all related to wiring and easily resolved. One time, my rear brakes locked after going through a car wash, but I learned that this was due to dust and dirt getting in and getting wet, which cemented the brakes. To prevent this, I now drive my car after washing it to dry out the drums and clean them. Overall, I feel that I paid too much for the car when I bought it 2 years ago for $9,995. The only real issue I had was with the clutch safety button, which failed and prevented me from starting the car. However, it was an easy fix that only cost $80.
