The Chevrolet Aveo (/əˈveɪ.oʊ/ ə-VAY-oh) is a five-passenger, front-drive subcompact car (B-segment) marketed by General Motors (GM) since 2002 over two generations. Originally developed by South Korean manufacturer Daewoo Motors and marketed as the Daewoo Kalos, the takeover of Daewoo by GM to form GM Daewoo Auto & Technology (GMDAT) resulted in the car's marketing in 120 countries under seven brands (Chevrolet, Daewoo, ZAZ, Holden, Pontiac, Ravon and Suzuki) — prominently as the Aveo.
The second-generation Aveo, developed by GM Korea (formerly GMDAT), was introduced in 2011 and was also marketed as the Chevrolet Sonic in markets including the Americas, Japan, Middle East, South Africa and several Southeast Asian markets. Production of the second-generation model ended in October 2020.
Since 2017, GM marketed the Chinese market Chevrolet Sail sedan in Mexico and other Central American countries as the Aveo. Developed by GM PATAC in China and produced by joint venture SAIC-GM, it was positioned below the more advanced Sonic. In 2023, GM imported a new version to Mexico in a sedan and hatchback form, developed and manufactured by another Chinese joint venture, SAIC-GM-Wuling.

- Summary: There was no prior warnings or notices that there was an issue. While diving on a major road with my children, smoke started coming into the cabin from the vents, and around the stereo. Luckily I was near a very vacant parking lot and immediately pulled over. I removed the kids from the car safely and did open the hood to try troubleshoot the problem. There was no smoke anywhere under the hood. Immediately after, sparks started falling from under the steering wheel to the gas pedal. Immediately after that the car was engulfed in flames. The car is currently located at my local police impound and is available for inspection upon request. From the time the smoke started to when the car was engulfed, it was approximately 5 minutes. This could have been dangerous had we been on a highway and unable to pull over and get out of the car safely within that time. It was only inspected briefly by the fire department who arrived to put out the fire and they reported it was an electrical issue that caused the fire.

Some customers may comment on an intermittent malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) being Illuminated with a message or an indicator that displays Reduced Engine Power. The technician may observe on a scan tool DTC P2138 - Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor 1-2 Correlation set as Current or in History. This condition may be caused by water intrusion into the instrument panel (IP) to body harness connector, which carries the APP sensor signals to the ECM/PCM. This water intrusion results in a voltage difference between APP Sensor 1 and APP Sensor 2 that exceeds a predetermined value for more than a calibrated period of time, setting P2138. This technical bulletin provides repair information for repairing the ip to body harness connector to correct a customer concern for intermittent malfunction indicator lamp (mil) illuminated with reduced engine power displayed and dtc p2138 set. Waited two months to get it, but it was worth the wait! The car has a sporty exterior with a spoiler and other great features. The interior is luxurious and incredibly comfortable, with lots of extras included. Driving it is a pleasure - it has pep, good brakes, and is easy to park. It's a real bargain for the price. It's just what I needed for getting around town and taking short trips. I highly recommend it to anyone who needs a stylish runabout!

Hi there! I just wanted to share my personal experience with this car. I bought mine brand new back in June of 2004 and I have to say, I've been absolutely thrilled with it! It handles really well, has a surprising amount of power, and the interior is incredibly spacious (especially the head room) with a roomy trunk to boot. I've been getting around 27-28 mpg in the city and over 40 on the highway when I'm driving solo. With the 5-speed transmission, it's an absolute joy to drive in the mountains of Oregon and Idaho. I even added a hitch to mine and it can easily tow a small boat while still getting great gas mileage in the low 30s. The only maintenance I've had to do is replace the timing belt and water pump, but that's just routine upkeep. Overall, I absolutely love this little car!

I love my little Aveo! I bought it brand new in April of 2007 and it has been such a reliable car. The only things I've had to do were get the valve cover replaced (under warranty), change a relay switch which cost me less than $20, wheel bearings at 60k and regular maintenance. I've used Mobil 1 in my car since the day I brought it home, literally, and it has never let me down! It is so fun to drive, and the 5-speed is the easiest I've ever used. I just changed the brakes for the first time at 90k miles (you don't use much with a stick). It has been great on gas too, usually getting 35-37 mpg, never under 32mpg. If you treat it right, it will definitely return the favor!

I bought this car brand new back in late 2008 and it has been a great ride ever since. With 120k miles on it, I have only had a couple of minor issues, such as the valve cover gasket leaking after a few years and the headlights getting foggy, but I easily replaced them with new assemblies. I even changed the gasket myself, so it wasn't a big deal. The air conditioning still works perfectly and I can still get an impressive 34mpg on the highway. Of course, the A/C may reduce power on takeoff and lower gas mileage, but that's to be expected on a smaller car. At 80k miles, I had the timing belt replaced along with the water pump and idler pulleys, and the old belt still looked great. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this car and I am confident it will last well over 200k miles.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my car. When gas prices went above $4 a gallon, I decided to trade in my fully loaded Chevy Impala for an Aveo. While the Impala was very comfortable and got 22 mpg city, the Aveo hasn't quite lived up to its advertised window sticker. I usually get between 25 to 27 mpg in the city and 30 on the highway. Despite some issues with the alarm going off for no reason, I found a helpful tip online to lock it with the key instead of the fob, which has resolved the problem 99% of the time. Unfortunately, the hood latch is currently broken and I can't open it at all. However, I've kept up with the required maintenance and I'm hoping it will last me another 4 to 5 years. This car is capable of hauling me up over a 9000 ft summit at 70 mph, which is impressive. Although it may be a bit noisy, it gets the job done and has a great fuel efficiency of 32 mpg on the highway. The car handles well, but some of the interior features such as the drink holder and hood release, gas cap and plastic parts are a bit cheap. However, it was still thousands cheaper than the stripped Toyota and comes with great features like cruise, tilt power everything and on star. Overall, I would rate it 3 out of 5. While it has had some issues with the front end and tires, it is still a great choice for an inexpensive economy car. If I had the extra 4k, I would consider buying the Toyota, but it's important to remember that you would be paying a lot more for a higher-end car.

This car has been well-maintained with mostly highway miles, currently at 93,300. It has a fuel efficiency of 33 mpg. Although there were some initial alignment issues, they have been resolved. The AC had some problems last summer with the fans not blowing much air out of the vents, but it has since been fixed. Recently, the rear O2 sensor and air intake hose had to be replaced, which unfortunately had to be purchased from the dealer at a high cost of approximately $240 per part. Despite this, the car has been reliable and well-performing. While I may consider other options in the future, I am confident in the quality of this Chevy.

Unfortunately, this design flaw was not communicated to customers and there was no recall. It's frustrating to deal with the extra cost and inconvenience, especially when you were hoping for an affordable and low-maintenance car. I wish I had taken the time to search for a better car, but I was desperate and ended up buying the cheapest car available at the time. Unfortunately, it has not been worth the money I paid for it. I have a 2010 Aveo and, if you have a choice, I would strongly advise against buying this car. I purchased it used in 2014 with 73,000 miles on it, and within six months, something went wrong. Since then, the car has had a new problem every single month. Let me just say that this car was made very poorly and very cheaply. For example, I had to replace the tube that connects to the mass airflow sensor, which was cracked. However, the only way to buy the tube was with the mass airflow sensor, and GM was the ONLY place you could buy it. They wanted $300 for the piece of plastic, which I thought was a huge scam. Fortunately, I was able to get it at a junk yard for $20 (Thanks BoBo). I also had to replace two wheel bearings, get a new thermostat, and fix the AC, which was a $900 expense. Additionally, the bulbs have to be replaced frequently because they are on all day, and I had to replace all the spark plugs. Mechanics have told me that the transmission fluid and brake fluid are brown, which is not a good sign. There are probably more problems that I have simply forgotten. While it is possible that the previous owner did not maintain the car properly, I have come to really regret my purchase of this vehicle. I cannot wait to trade it in, but unfortunately, it is going to cost me. I hope this review helps someone avoid making the same mistake that I did.
