Common 2008 Saab 9-5 problems
Based on the complaints from owners of the 2008 Saab 9-5, several common problems have been reported:
- Fuel Injector Problems: Owners have faced issues with fuel injectors, resulting in engine light warnings and potential repair costs.
- Shifter Play: Some owners have reported excessive play in the shifter while in park or drive, which can be attributed to worn-out bushings or pivot joints in the shift cables.
These problems highlight the importance of thorough inspection and maintenance when considering purchasing a used 2008 Saab 9-5. Regular servicing and expert evaluation can help identify and address these common issues to ensure a better understanding of the car's condition and potential costs of ownership.
Is Saab 9-5 a good car?
Saab's 9-5 is a competent car with capable and secure handling. A major 2010 redesign produced a car that wasn't as well rounded as previous 9-5s. It handles fairly nimbly and has great fit and finish, but the 220-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine is noisy and a little weak for the class.
What year of Saab is the most reliable?
The Saab 900 (1994-1998) is a mid-size luxury car produced by the Swedish automaker Saab. It is the fourth generation of the Saab 900 series. Known for its Scandinavian design, innovative features, and solid build quality, the Saab 900 (1994-1998) is considered one of the most reliable Saabs in its lineup.
Which is better Saab 9-3 or 9-5?
When we compare the Saab 9-3's and the Saab 9-5's specifications and ratings, the Saab 9-3 has the advantage in the areas of typical lower range of pricing for one- to five-year-old used cars, and fuel efficiency. The Saab 9-5 has the advantage in the areas of interior volume and base engine power.
Is the Saab 9-5 rare?
Many believed that this model would save Saab, but unfortunately, only 11,300 cars were produced before the company filed for bankruptcy. Today, the Saab 9-5 has become a cult car highly sought after by collectors.

- Summary: TAKATA RECALL- I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM IN THE MAIL IN MAY 2016 REGARDING A RECALL FOR MY AIRBAG. I CALLED THE NUMBER THEY HAD REFERENCED TWICE TO FIND OUT ABOUT USING A RENTAL VEHICLE WHILE WAITING FOR THE PART. I WAS TOLD THAT GM WAS NOT PROVIDING RENTAL CARS FOR THOSE CONSUMERS WHO WERE EFFECTED. SEEMS ODD TO ME THAT THEY SEND A LETTER STATING THEY ARE CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY AND THAT THE INFLATOR COULD RUPTURE RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH, YET DO NOT OFFER A SOLUTION. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. OTHER CAR MANUFACTURERS HAVE OFFERED THEIR CUSTOMERS A RENTAL VEHICLE. WHY NOT GM? I WAS TOLD IT WAS MY DECISION IF I WANTED TO CONTINUE DRIVING MY VEHICLE. OBVIOUSLY I NEED TO DRIVE IF I WANT TO CONTINUE MY JOB! THERE WAS NO TIMEFRAME AS TO WHEN THE PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE, SO I GUESS I JUST HAVE TO CROSS MY FINGERS EVERY TIME I GET IN MY CAR AND HOPE THAT NOTHING HAPPENS.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2008-01-24
- VIN: YS3ED49G983
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: I HAVE A 2008 9-5 SAAB AND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG TURNS ITSELF ON AND OFF WHILE SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT AND THE CAR IS MOVING. THE SENSOR IS SUPPOSED TO BE SET TO TURN AIRBAG ON FOR 90 LBS BUT MY WIFE AND KIDS WEIGH ABOUT 120 LBS AND THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP THE AIRBAG SENSOR ON IS TO PULL YOURSELF DOWN IN THE SEAT AND HOLD ON. I HAVE NOTIFIED SAAB ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THEY CANNOT FIX NOR DO THEY SEEM WILLING TO TRY. MY WIFE SAT IN OTHER 2008 9-5?S AND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AT THE DEALERSHIPS AND THEY WITNESSED THE PROBLEM SO IT IS NOT JUST OUR CAR. I HOPE SOMEONE AT SAAB/GM WILL TAKE THIS UP AND GET IT FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED OR HURT DUE TO FAULTY AIRBAGS ON ALL 2008 9-5 MODELS! THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE SENSOR IS LOCATED SUCH THAT THE WEIGHT OF THE PERSON SITTING IN THE SEAT IS DISTRIBUTED AWAY FROM THE SENSOR AND THE ?REPAIR? NOTED IN THEIR MANUAL DOES NOT WORK. THEY DO NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM IN THEIR OTHER LINE OF CARS AS THEY HAVE DIFFERENT SENSORS. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP NOTIFIED ME THAT THEY KNOW GM ALSO HAS THIS PROBLEM IN THEIR LINE OF VEHICLES WITH THE SAME SENSOR/SEAT PROBE. I HOPE BY GETTING THIS INFORMATION OUT TO THE PUBLIC, NO ONE WILL BE HURT OR KILLED IN A CRASH INVOLVING A 2008 9-5 SAAB WHEN THE AIRBAG DOES NOT DEPLOY BECAUSE THE PERSON IS LESS THAN 140 LBS AND SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. *TR

I'm so glad I purchased my Saab! I needed a sedan to match my Suburban's corporate style, without being too flashy, and the 9-5 was the perfect choice. It's actually a bit of a secret gem - a great car that not many people know about. I was able to get mine at a fantastic price, and while it may not be the most refined car out there, it's still a joy to drive. On the highway, I get an impressive 30mpg, and it's a blast to take on curves. Even my wife, who drives a Volvo XC70, agrees that the Saab is the better choice - it's just so much fun! Of course, the Suburban is great for family trips and outdoor adventures, but the Saab is perfect for when I want to have a bit of fun. Plus, I get compliments on it all the time!

Since 1966, I have owned 17 Saabs of all variants. In my opinion, the Aero is the fastest, safest, and most attractive of them all. It has all the useful gadgets without too much trendy clutter. The audio is outstanding. Although the 235x17 tires, P6, are a bit noisy, it is a compromise for great performance. I am thrilled to have the final version of the 9000-95 evolution. I have owned two of each: the original 86 9000T, a 91 9000T, a 01 95t Arc, and now the 98 Aero. The 2.3 turbo remains a great motor, better than most 50% above its size. The Aero joins my 07 93, 74 Sonnett, 73 96 v-4, and 68 96 v-4 in the driveway.

I recently switched from a large SUV to the 2007 9-5 Aero Sport Wagon and it was definitely the right choice for me. After thoroughly researching all the options, I found that the Saab wagon 9-5 was the clear winner. The lower priced vehicles just didn't measure up and the higher priced ones didn't offer enough added value to justify the extra cost. While some may argue that all wheel drive is necessary, I find that the front wheel drive is perfectly adequate and it even provides better gas mileage. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the car. It's comfortable, handles like a sports car, and has a spacious cargo area that beats anything in its class.

I've had this car for almost a year and I absolutely love it! It's powerful, comfortable, and gets excellent gas mileage. The car is loaded with features and designed with safety in mind. It offers so much value for the dollar. I traded in a Jaguar XK8 for this Aero and I have never regretted the decision. It's great in the snow and can comfortably haul five passengers. The trunk is very spacious and the interior is well laid out. This is definitely my favorite car I've ever owned!

Hi there! I recently purchased a 2007 Saab 9-5 after my 300K Mercedes E300D was unfortunately lost due to a flooded street. It was a tough decision to choose a car other than another Mercedes, but I realized that if I wanted a M-B diesel, the minimum price would be $60K! So, I decided to go with something else unusual, and the Saab fit the bill perfectly. I must say, it's a great car! The acceleration is thrilling, the build seems great, the interior is comfortable and well thought out, and I absolutely LOVE the fact that the parchment seats are combined with black interior colors. It gives it a very modern look. The car did have one warranty claim already, which is why I rated it 9 instead of 10, but it was just a simple squeak in the wood trim. The dealer was able to fix it in just 10 minutes. Overall, I'm really happy with my purchase!

We bought the car used with 85,000 miles on it. The car facts showed only one previous owner and all maintenance was up to date. We thought it was a good value for the price of $8999 before taxes. The dealer was upfront with us about SAAB going under and that new parts would have to be purchased out of the country. However, he also informed us of a couple of SAAB dealerships still operating in our area. We test drove the car and fell in love with the luxury of the seats, sunroof, and the super awesome Boise surround sound system. The Turbo pick up and go was also impressive. After our purchase, we experienced some issues with the car. The headlights started going out and the circuit to the headlights started separating from the circuit board, which had to be re-soldered on. By 98,000 miles, the car started idling rough and eventually died while my husband was driving on the freeway. Fortunately, he was able to get the car to start again and drive off of the freeway, only to have it die again on the street. We called AAA and by the time the tow truck arrived, the battery had completely died out. We got it to a mechanic, who recommended a new transmission. Our dealer was able to locate a refurbished transmission with a 6-month warranty, and $1600 later, the car's check engine light pops back on. The loaner car that our dealer let us borrow during the transmission fix was a 2007 Saab 9-5, which also had check lights flashing on its display.

Our SAAB has lost a significant amount of its value in just 4 years, which is disappointing. Unfortunately, due to the company going bankrupt, there are no authorized service dealerships in the USA anymore and it's difficult to find replacement parts. We're currently upside down on the loan and struggling to find a buyer who is willing to pay a reasonable price. Despite these challenges, the car still drives fine and has some great features. However, compared to newer models, it may be considered outdated. It's amazing how quickly technology advances in the automotive industry!
Chase Fisher 2024-06-19
I have owned many cars, including most types. However, this 39th new car has been a huge disappointment, comparable to my experience with GM's and Fords in the 80s. Unfortunately, within just two days of owning it, the side 'memory seat' lower seat wrap around and buttons broke off the driver's seat and are now hanging. Although parts are on order, the low gas mileage for such a tiny engine is also a concern. If a 2.3L engine were in a Honda, it would get 45 MPG, not 18. In light of these issues, I cannot recommend purchasing a SAAB. Other cars offer greater value and quality at lower costs.

Nice car! It's great to hear that it runs better on Super fuel. The front seat seems very cozy, and while the back seats are nice, they don't have as much room as older models. It's also pretty sweet to look at in black.
