The Cadillac XT5 (short for Crossover Touring 5) is a compact luxury / D-segment crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors. It was introduced at both the Dubai Motor Show and LA Auto Show in November 2015. The XT5 replaced the Cadillac SRX crossover when it was launched in spring 2016. It is the second model to use Cadillac's new alphanumeric naming scheme (after the CT6) and the first in the Crossover Touring (XT) series. The XT5 is manufactured at GM's Spring Hill Manufacturing plant. The Chinese-market XT5 is manufactured in Shanghai by SAIC-GM.

As of 2017, the XT5 was Cadillac's best selling model in the United States and globally.

Overview

The XT5 features technology such as a streaming video rear-view mirror, 360° view backup camera, and the first application in a Cadillac of GM’s Electronic Precision Shift, which replaces the standard hydraulic shifter with an electronic controller. This, together with a new lightweight chassis, results in a weight savings of 278 lb (126 kg) versus the outgoing SRX.

The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle failed to accelerate while attempting to switch lanes. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle was revving; however, the vehicle failed to slow down as needed. The contact stated that the vehicle continued to accelerate to approximately 80 MPH. The contact depressed the brake pedal for an excessive amount of time to significantly reduce the speed of the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle decelerated to approximately 70 MPH. The contact became aware that the cruise control had activated independently. While attempting to deactivate the cruise control, the cruise control failed to deactivate. The contact pressed the START/STOP button to turn off the vehicle. The contact pressed the button again immediately turning the vehicle back on and shifting into neutral, significantly reducing the RPM. The contact coasted to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. After waiting for a while the contact turned the vehicle back on and continued driving.   • Summary: After a rainy highway speed 50 mile trip I stopped to get a Lotto ticket at my local store. I shut the vehicle off. It took me approximately 2 to 3 minutes to buy the Lottery ticket. I started the vehicle and noticed that my power steering was not operating. I could barely move the steering wheel ( it seemed locked) and I barely made my 10 mile trip to my house using secondary dirt roads . I called my dealer and was told that sometimes after an overnight of non use the problem would go away. The next morning I started the vehicle and the power steering was back to normal. I took it to my local Cadillac dealer and they scoped it and found no defect codes recorded. I was very fortunate that the incident didn’t occur while driving at I-75 . At high speeds without steering it would have resulted in possible multiple serious injuries or deaths. I hope that their is a possible fix to the steering loss but my dealer has no clues at this time. Mileage on my vehicle is approximately 14500 miles. I currently have no confidence in this vehicle and will not have my 75 year wife drive it. My age is 77. Another serious incident that I had with this vehicle when it was new was the automatic forward collision braking . I was making a left turn and for no reason the car suddenly braked hard and stalled. I was fortunate that the oncoming traffic stopped and gave me a chance to restart and move away from the intersection. The problem was resolved by my dealer by reducing the sensitivity of the forward collision braking.

It was taken to the dealership the first time and the transmission was replaced and within 3 months the same issue occurred which could have been deadly. It again was given a new transmission and 6 months later the same issue is occurring. Yesterday the check engine light came on. The vehicle began to drive very slow as I was on the main road. Another collision could have occurred but thankfully I was able to turn into a parking lot and stop the vehicle. GM corporate has Been contacted multiple times and have stopped answering all my calls and conerns. This issue can cause major damage to my family as well as others. A new vehicle like this should not have these issues

THE LOW FUEL WARNING INDICATOR CAME ON SHOWED ZERO MILES LEFT EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS AT LEAST A QUARTER TANK LEFT. THE SPEEDOMETER READOUT CHANGED TO ZERO, WHILE WE WERE DRIVING AT ABOUT 35 MPH. WE WERE ABLE TO SAFELY STOP THE CAR AT A CONVENIENCE STORE / GAS STATION. THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULDN'T TURN OFF THE ENGINE, THE HEAT CAME ON AND WOULDN'T TURN OFF, THE WINDOWS WOULDN'T ROLL DOWN, AND THE DOORS LOCKED THEMSELVES. THE REAR WINDSHIELD WASHER CONTINUALLY PUMPED OUT FLUID. THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS STARTED AND WOULDN'T TURN OFF. WE CALLED HERTZ AND WHILE WE WERE ON THE PHONE WITH THEM THE ENGINE DID SHUT DOWN. HERTZ SENT A TOW TRUCK TO RETRIEVE THE CAR. WHEN HE ARRIVED HE CALLED ME TO ASK WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE CAR, AS HE FOUND IT TO BE OPERATING NORMALLY.

  • Consequence: An inoperative rearview camera can reduce the driver's rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

    I really enjoyed the styling both inside and out. The comfort and convenience were acceptable. However, I was disappointed to find out that the car did not come with a multi-disk CD player. It's hard to believe that they use the excuse of 'new tech' for not offering a CD player as an option, but don't offer a 'Dash Camera' as standard which would be considered 'New Tech'. Additionally, the road noise was quite noticeable, even on different types of pavement. At times, I thought that a door, window, or tailgate was open. It's understandable why some customers are moving to foreign vehicle brands. Although the prices keep going up, the quality seems to be going down. I was also disappointed to learn that a 'trailer towing package' is no longer an option. If GM can't offer better options, then I may have to look elsewhere.

    I recently purchased a Cadillac XT5 PLATINUM with high expectations for luxury and convenience. While the luxury aspect met my expectations, I was disappointed with the comfort level. The seats are quite firm and not very comfortable. Additionally, I found it difficult to view the average fuel consumption, as only instantaneous or 39l to 100miles were displayed. Despite the advertised 'Magnetic Ride', my 2011 VW TOUAREG provided a better driving experience. If you prioritize comfort in your vehicle, I would recommend considering a Mercedes-Benz or Volvo instead of a Cadillac. While the Cadillac offers luxury, it falls short in terms of comfort.

    After owning a 2003 Escalade for 9 years, a 2012 Acadia Denali for 7 and the 2020 XT5 for 18mos., I feel qualified to compare them. Although we miss the roomy interior and comfortable seats of the Escalade, we found the Acadia to be a better car for comfort. It handled as well as the Escalade and outperformed it with the same power plant. The XT5 has a smoother and quieter ride, and with the 9-speed transmission, it accelerates better than the other two. Once you shift into 4th or higher, it is very smooth. However, we have noticed that low-speed, in-town driving can be jerky, like the electronic shifting can't decide what gear to stay in or when to shift. We plan to take it to the dealer soon. Although we like the car for its quietness and ride, we find the driver seat uncomfortable on long trips. We have to use a cushion to provide the padding we need. If we keep it much longer, we will have to have the driver seat rebuilt. The improved 3.8 V6 is the engine I have driven for the past 30 years.

    We have been driving our 2019 XT5 Luxury V6, 3.6 L, FWD, horizon red (exterior), Sahara beige (interior), family SUV for over a year now, and we still get excited every time we enter it. Unlike our previous cars, the longer we have it, the more delighted we are. The aesthetics are superb, and the cabin inside feels like a piece of art while still being a real car. We believe that critics of the XT5 interior were not seeing the forest for the trees, focusing on nitty-bitty details like the 'rough edges' of door pockets, but completely missing or mischaracterizing it as a whole. The exterior appearance is sharp and elegant, not just another SUV like your neighbor's. The front and rear boomerang-shaped lights are, in our opinion, the best-looking in the auto industry, very appropriate for a true luxury vehicle, which it is. Although the cabin is very spacious and comfy, the car's outside dimensions are about perfect for parking in a standard garage or parking lot. Before we bought our XT5, we wanted to buy an Explorer, but parking it, even with automatic car assist, was a frustrating experience due to its oversized width. Also, the top of the line version of the Explorer did not feel nearly as luxurious inside as the XT5. The V6 quietness and pick up are very satisfying, and the auto stop-restart takes some time to get used to, but after a while, we actually like it. It's pretty cool. Driving it is a pleasure too, with a smooth ride like velvet, easy maneuverability, and all-by-wire steering and transmission that will amaze you. It feels like a lightweight car and not a 2,500 lb gross weight truck. It does exactly what the driver wants it to do. So far, we have had no repairs, just oil changes and washing. Fuel efficiency is good, although we don't drive it too fast. Now, onto some critical comments. Our biggest concern probably pertains to virtually all new vehicles available on the market.The suspension used in modern cars, known as 'short travel', may look stylish and provide better fuel economy and a more exciting driving experience, but it can become uncomfortable on bumpy roads. In the past, full-size or mid-size cars would float over road imperfections, with only the wheels moving up and down. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case with today's cars. When encountering a bump on the highway, you may notice that both the wheels and the entire body of the car move up and down. Our second concern is the length of the car. If it were a few inches longer, perhaps with an optional 'L' version, the rear half of the cabin would feel like an upscale saloon. We wonder why most car manufacturers have abandoned the idea that the rear seats should be the most spacious and comfortable. Not that we are complaining about the XT5's rear seat - it is comfortable and can be adjusted - but we are critical of the recent trend in the auto industry in this respect. Our third concern is with the control/GPS screen. It lacks a shade, so when the sun is up, it can be difficult to read some small details. We also had difficulty finding a specific accessory: pillows that would allow passengers to sleep while riding in an upright position. Perhaps Cadillac could consider commissioning them, as they would greatly enhance the pleasure (or reduce the tiredness) of long-distance driving. Other than that, we fell in love with it at first sight and will probably keep it indefinitely.

I completely agree that choosing an SUV can be overwhelming, but it sounds like you made the perfect choice with the XT5. It's not too big, but still offers plenty of room for 5 people and has a sleek and handsome design that looks good in any color. I hope you continue to enjoy your Cadillac for many years to come!
