The Cadillac XT5 (short for Crossover Touring 5) is a compact luxury / D-segment crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors. It was introduced at both the Dubai Motor Show and LA Auto Show in November 2015. The XT5 replaced the Cadillac SRX crossover when it was launched in spring 2016. It is the second model to use Cadillac's new alphanumeric naming scheme (after the CT6) and the first in the Crossover Touring (XT) series. The XT5 is manufactured at GM's Spring Hill Manufacturing plant. The Chinese-market XT5 is manufactured in Shanghai by SAIC-GM.
As of 2017, the XT5 was Cadillac's best selling model in the United States and globally.
Overview
The XT5 features technology such as a streaming video rear-view mirror, 360° view backup camera, and the first application in a Cadillac of GM’s Electronic Precision Shift, which replaces the standard hydraulic shifter with an electronic controller. This, together with a new lightweight chassis, results in a weight savings of 278 lb (126 kg) versus the outgoing SRX.

- Summary: i was involved in a front end collision with a car that pulled out in front of me without looking. I ended up T-boning the car at approx. 20-25 MPH. Both myself and my wife were wearing our seat belts. Mine held but the passenger one held only the lap belt part. The shoulder part of the SB allowed her face to go crashing into the dashboard. She ended up with abdominal injuries and head trauma. I took it to the dealer and they say the seat belt will need to be replaced as it is defective. (You think). I can pull on the shoulder strap rapidly and it will not 'catch'.

- Summary: This model Cadillac XT5 has early failures of engine cooling systems thermostats. The thermostat sticks open causing lower engine temperatures and higher emissions. The first sign you have an issue is a reduced power steering assist message on the instrument display. The engine control module stores a p0128 code as current. Continue driving the vehicle the ECM will shut off AC compressor engagement, so no AC. The next thing that happens is you lose temperature gauge. So you are now driving vehicle with reduced power steering assist, no AC and no way of knowing if the engine is overheating. This is a known issue with the refer to GM bulletin # 17-NA-158 posted May 2017. There has been a such a demand for this thermostat, that parts back orders are common. The volume of failures should be addressed as a recall including refunds to owners who have had to pay for this repair. The fact that a colder running engine typically runs richer based on ECM programming, causes higher emissions. GM hasn’t been helping people with this repair for out of warranty vehicles. Our 2017 XT5 failed at 38,000 miles. Cadillac only offered to pay 30% of the repair leaving a balance of $585.00! This was all because GM’s failed part.

- Summary: The contact's wife owned a 2019 Cadillac XT5. The contact stated that while the wife was driving at various speeds, the brake pedal would vibrate upon depression without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer however the failure was unable to be duplicated. The contact then stated that while his wife was driving at 55 MPH, the brakes failed to operate upon depression without warning. The contact wife stated that a loud, grinding sound emitted from the vehicle during the failure. To avoid crashing into another vehicle, the contact's wife intentionally drove into the highway's side guardrail. After the vehicle hit the guardrail, the vehicle spun into oncoming traffic before coasting into a ditch by the highway median. The air bags deployed upon impact as the front driver-side tire detached from the vehicle; the rear driver-side tire was left dangling off the vehicle. The contact's wife was taken to the hospital via an ambulance where she was kept overnight for observation. Several test were performed but no major injuries were discovered, the contact's wife was treated for soreness around the chest and a scratch to the left shoulder. A police report was filed. The guardrail was damaged as a result of the accident. The vehicle was towed to an independent tow yard where it remained in their possession. The vehicle was deemed a total loss as a result of the accident. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000.

- Summary: Our XT5 began getting 'Steering Assist Reduced' message about a year ago. It comes and goes , coming more often now. The problem is the thermostat and is a very common issue with numerous complaints here and on Cadillac forums (below). The problem is, when this issue occurs the AC stops working, and when that happens you have no windshield defrost, and that is a safety problem. Cadillac has TSB's describing this issue but refuses to cover it goodwill as we are slightly out of warranty. The repair is extensive, requiring 4.5 of time. - Summary: The contact called on behalf of her grandmother who owns a 2020 Cadillac XT5. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle failed to accelerate while attempting to switch lanes. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle was revving; however, the vehicle failed to slow down as needed. The contact stated that the vehicle continued to accelerate to approximately 80 MPH. The contact depressed the brake pedal for an excessive amount of time to significantly reduce the speed of the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle decelerated to approximately 70 MPH. The contact became aware that the cruise control had activated independently. While attempting to deactivate the cruise control, the cruise control failed to deactivate. The contact pressed the START/STOP button to turn off the vehicle. The contact pressed the button again immediately turning the vehicle back on and shifting into neutral, significantly reducing the RPM. The contact coasted to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. After waiting for a while the contact turned the vehicle back on and continued driving. The start/stop feature in my car has not turned off in almost 3 weeks and about 1000 miles of driving. Despite contacting the service department at the dealer, I received conflicting advice from the service adviser and the salesman. To ensure the safety of my car, I visited the dealer's service department today. The service adviser provided me with reasons why the system may not work and assured me that I would receive a warning from the car if something was wrong. While he did not check my car, he did mention that there are many XT5's out there and none have reported a start/stop problem. I am confident that the issue will be resolved and my car will be functioning properly soon.

We have been driving our 2019 XT5 Luxury V6, 3.6 L, FWD, horizon red (exterior), Sahara beige (interior), family SUV for over a year now, and we still get excited every time we enter it. Unlike our previous cars, the longer we have it, the more delighted we are. The aesthetics are superb, and the cabin inside feels like a piece of art while still being a real car. We believe that critics of the XT5 interior were not seeing the forest for the trees, focusing on nitty-bitty details like the 'rough edges' of door pockets, but completely missing or mischaracterizing it as a whole. The exterior appearance is sharp and elegant, not just another SUV like your neighbor's. The front and rear boomerang-shaped lights are, in our opinion, the best-looking in the auto industry, very appropriate for a true luxury vehicle, which it is. Although the cabin is very spacious and comfy, the car's outside dimensions are about perfect for parking in a standard garage or parking lot. Before we bought our XT5, we wanted to buy an Explorer, but parking it, even with automatic car assist, was a frustrating experience due to its oversized width. Also, the top of the line version of the Explorer did not feel nearly as luxurious inside as the XT5. The V6 quietness and pick up are very satisfying, and the auto stop-restart takes some time to get used to, but after a while, we actually like it. It's pretty cool. Driving it is a pleasure too, with a smooth ride like velvet, easy maneuverability, and all-by-wire steering and transmission that will amaze you. It feels like a lightweight car and not a 2,500 lb gross weight truck. It does exactly what the driver wants it to do. So far, we have had no repairs, just oil changes and washing. Fuel efficiency is good, although we don't drive it too fast. Now, onto some critical comments. Our biggest concern probably pertains to virtually all new vehicles available on the market.The suspension used in modern cars, known as 'short travel', may look stylish and provide better fuel economy and a more exciting driving experience, but it can become uncomfortable on bumpy roads. In the past, full-size or mid-size cars would float over road imperfections, with only the wheels moving up and down. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case with today's cars. When encountering a bump on the highway, you may notice that both the wheels and the entire body of the car move up and down. Our second concern is the length of the car. If it were a few inches longer, perhaps with an optional 'L' version, the rear half of the cabin would feel like an upscale saloon. We wonder why most car manufacturers have abandoned the idea that the rear seats should be the most spacious and comfortable. Not that we are complaining about the XT5's rear seat - it is comfortable and can be adjusted - but we are critical of the recent trend in the auto industry in this respect. Our third concern is with the control/GPS screen. It lacks a shade, so when the sun is up, it can be difficult to read some small details. We also had difficulty finding a specific accessory: pillows that would allow passengers to sleep while riding in an upright position. Perhaps Cadillac could consider commissioning them, as they would greatly enhance the pleasure (or reduce the tiredness) of long-distance driving. Other than that, we fell in love with it at first sight and will probably keep it indefinitely.

I purchased a brand new 2017 xt5 and unfortunately experienced multiple issues at just 19,000 miles. Despite having to replace the front passenger airbag and thermostat, I was disappointed to encounter further problems with the brake assist and another airbag notice. These issues were unexpected and should not have occurred at such a low mileage. As a result, I made the decision to sell the car and will not be purchasing another one. It is important to exercise caution when considering this vehicle, as several of my friends have also experienced similar issues.

The car's interior build quality and start/stop feature were very poor, resulting in rattles and squeaks from day one. The engine and transmission also underperformed, despite having 310 hp. Passing was a chore due to the need to rev the engine to a high level. However, I decided to switch to a new Audi allroad, which I am very happy with.

The Android Auto system in my vehicle has been a frustrating experience. I have encountered issues trying to connect two phones and the system often connects to the wrong device. Additionally, I have had difficulty getting my phone to connect to the system without having to turn off the car. The map updates are also a challenge, as they require a minimum $400 yearly subscription to OnStar or a $150 SD card purchase each year. Unfortunately, customer service for GM and OnStar has not been helpful in resolving these issues. Despite these challenges, I remain confident in my decision to purchase this vehicle and look forward to finding solutions to these problems.

I purchased my 2017 Cadillac XT5 as soon as it arrived at the dealership and was excited to take delivery. Although the wireless charger never worked with my iPhone 8plus, I had no other problems during the first 25,000 miles. However, after reaching 25,000 miles, I noticed that occasionally when I put my vehicle into gear, the SUV would jerk horribly. The dealership explained that it was a design flaw of the XT5 and would not cause any problems, just a jerk. Fast forward to 50,100 miles and out of warranty, the blind spot monitor went completely out, the electronic system would not read either one of the key fobs even after battery changes, the rear camera would not work, and the tires started peeling and had to be replaced (20” Michelin tires). After expensive repairs, I decided to look into trading it in. Unfortunately, my 54,000 Cadillac is now worth at best (and trust me I baby my vehicles) 29,000. I must say that I am very disappointed and will think long and hard before purchasing another Cadillac.
