Cadillac Xt5 problems
The Cadillac XT5 (short for Crossover Touring 5) is a compact luxury / D-segment crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors. It was introduced at both the Dubai Motor Show and LA Auto Show in November 2015. The XT5 replaced the Cadillac SRX crossover when it was launched in spring 2016. It is the second model to use Cadillac's new alphanumeric naming scheme (after the CT6) and the first in the Crossover Touring (XT) series. The XT5 is manufactured at GM's Spring Hill Manufacturing plant. The Chinese-market XT5 is manufactured in Shanghai by SAIC-GM.
As of 2017, the XT5 was Cadillac's best selling model in the United States and globally.
Overview
The XT5 features technology such as a streaming video rear-view mirror, 360° view backup camera, and the first application in a Cadillac of GM’s Electronic Precision Shift, which replaces the standard hydraulic shifter with an electronic controller. This, together with a new lightweight chassis, results in a weight savings of 278 lb (126 kg) versus the outgoing SRX.

- Summary: i was involved in a front end collision with a car that pulled out in front of me without looking. I ended up T-boning the car at approx. 20-25 MPH. Both myself and my wife were wearing our seat belts. Mine held but the passenger one held only the lap belt part. The shoulder part of the SB allowed her face to go crashing into the dashboard. She ended up with abdominal injuries and head trauma. I took it to the dealer and they say the seat belt will need to be replaced as it is defective. (You think). I can pull on the shoulder strap rapidly and it will not 'catch'.

- Summary: This model Cadillac XT5 has early failures of engine cooling systems thermostats. The thermostat sticks open causing lower engine temperatures and higher emissions. The first sign you have an issue is a reduced power steering assist message on the instrument display. The engine control module stores a p0128 code as current. Continue driving the vehicle the ECM will shut off AC compressor engagement, so no AC. The next thing that happens is you lose temperature gauge. So you are now driving vehicle with reduced power steering assist, no AC and no way of knowing if the engine is overheating. This is a known issue with the refer to GM bulletin # 17-NA-158 posted May 2017. There has been a such a demand for this thermostat, that parts back orders are common. The volume of failures should be addressed as a recall including refunds to owners who have had to pay for this repair. The fact that a colder running engine typically runs richer based on ECM programming, causes higher emissions. GM hasn’t been helping people with this repair for out of warranty vehicles. Our 2017 XT5 failed at 38,000 miles. Cadillac only offered to pay 30% of the repair leaving a balance of $585.00! This was all because GM’s failed part.

- Summary: The contact's wife owned a 2019 Cadillac XT5. The contact stated that while the wife was driving at various speeds, the brake pedal would vibrate upon depression without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer however the failure was unable to be duplicated. The contact then stated that while his wife was driving at 55 MPH, the brakes failed to operate upon depression without warning. The contact wife stated that a loud, grinding sound emitted from the vehicle during the failure. To avoid crashing into another vehicle, the contact's wife intentionally drove into the highway's side guardrail. After the vehicle hit the guardrail, the vehicle spun into oncoming traffic before coasting into a ditch by the highway median. The air bags deployed upon impact as the front driver-side tire detached from the vehicle; the rear driver-side tire was left dangling off the vehicle. The contact's wife was taken to the hospital via an ambulance where she was kept overnight for observation. Several test were performed but no major injuries were discovered, the contact's wife was treated for soreness around the chest and a scratch to the left shoulder. A police report was filed. The guardrail was damaged as a result of the accident. The vehicle was towed to an independent tow yard where it remained in their possession. The vehicle was deemed a total loss as a result of the accident. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000.

- Summary: Our XT5 began getting 'Steering Assist Reduced' message about a year ago. It comes and goes , coming more often now. The problem is the thermostat and is a very common issue with numerous complaints here and on Cadillac forums (below). The problem is, when this issue occurs the AC stops working, and when that happens you have no windshield defrost, and that is a safety problem. Cadillac has TSB's describing this issue but refuses to cover it goodwill as we are slightly out of warranty. The repair is extensive, requiring 4.5 of time. - Summary: The contact called on behalf of her grandmother who owns a 2020 Cadillac XT5. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle failed to accelerate while attempting to switch lanes. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle was revving; however, the vehicle failed to slow down as needed. The contact stated that the vehicle continued to accelerate to approximately 80 MPH. The contact depressed the brake pedal for an excessive amount of time to significantly reduce the speed of the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle decelerated to approximately 70 MPH. The contact became aware that the cruise control had activated independently. While attempting to deactivate the cruise control, the cruise control failed to deactivate. The contact pressed the START/STOP button to turn off the vehicle. The contact pressed the button again immediately turning the vehicle back on and shifting into neutral, significantly reducing the RPM. The contact coasted to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. After waiting for a while the contact turned the vehicle back on and continued driving. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The Cadillac XT5 is a great midsize SUV that offers plenty of tech features, especially in the technology package. During my test drive, I was pleasantly surprised by the rearview camera (mirror) and the adaptive cruise, parking and lane alerts, which made me feel at ease. The phone integrations are straightforward and easy to use, which is a big plus. Although the driver and passenger space lack storage for small items, the ample headroom and legroom in both the front and rear make up for it. The turbocharged 4 cylinder provides adequate acceleration, but I would recommend the V-6 if you want a bit more power. Overall, I really like this car and I look forward to sharing more about my experience after driving it for six months!

The Platinum trim level sounds amazing with all the bells and whistles. We agree that the rear view camera is a fantastic feature that should be standard on all cars and trucks for safety reasons. The Cadillac XT5 is not only quiet, but also roomy and smooth. Additionally, it boasts a V6 engine and an impressive gas mileage of 25 mpg on average. Another great feature is the moonroof that opens all the way to the back seat. I absolutely love it!

I absolutely adore my XT5! As someone in their mid-forties, I never thought I would be so passionate about a car, but this vehicle is just perfect. It boasts a plethora of tech features that I find incredibly useful. I have been pleasantly surprised by its visibility and handling in bad weather conditions and at night. Additionally, I love the ability to switch transmission from front wheel, AWD, and sport mode. Sport mode is especially fun and gives me a little mid-life crisis sport car feel, or at least as close as you can get when trying to be practical with a family of 5. Living in the Midwest, I have to deal with all four seasons, but this car cruises through them all with ease. If I had to nitpick, my only complaint would be the start/stop feature and gas mileage, which could be better. However, I am completely used to it and it doesn't detract from my overall love for this SUV. I looked at all the luxury models and this one had the best combination of styling, technology, comfort, and overall handling. My wife and kids also love the vehicle, which isn't easy since all of them have their own opinions and preferences. As someone who has unfortunately been in a number of accidents, the safety features make me feel incredibly secure. I cannot recommend this SUV enough. I also believe that the styling competes, and in some cases, outclasses its foreign competitors, bringing something that is uniquely American to the table.

The Cadillac XT5 looks and feels amazing. You have the candy apple red color and have received an overwhelming amount of compliments on its beauty and style. Gas mileage is not too bad and the premium luxury model has a ton of cool features. Driving this vehicle is a true luxury experience.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share an experience I had this summer while driving through the Rocky Mountains in a 2019 Cadillac XT5 SUV. While approaching the first tunnel before Glacier National Park, my husband and I encountered a scary situation. The car was in adaptive cruise control and when my husband tried to accelerate, the car wouldn't stop accelerating. We were able to turn off cruise control, but the car still wouldn't stop accelerating. It was a very frightening experience, but thankfully we were able to safely pull over and avoid a collision. I had previously reported a couple of odd glitches with this vehicle, but Wolfe Cadillac in Edmonton never found anything wrong with it. Despite this experience, we still enjoyed our trip through the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Take care!We were in a very traumatic experience when the car suddenly stopped and started sputtering and chugging. Thankfully, we managed to get out of the car safely. We later found out that there was a report of the exact same issue with the same make, model, and year of our Cadillac. We have been trying to warn people about this incident for the past 3 months, but unfortunately, GMC Cadillac Buick has not been very helpful. If you or someone you know drives a 2019 Cadillac XT5, we highly recommend getting it checked. Bannister GMC in Kelowna BC Canada will know what was wrong with it, so all GMC dealerships can call them and get the scoop. We hope that this issue gets the attention it deserves. Lastly, we were disappointed with the customer service we received from all the GMC dealerships involved, and as a result, they have lost our business forever.

I recently discovered that the headrest in my car does not adjust, which is now a standard feature in Mercedes, GLC, and Audi Q5. Unfortunately, this caused me a lot of pain in my neck and lower back, making it unbearable to drive. I tried to sell the car privately and even considered lease swapping, but had no luck. The vehicle's value dropped by 14K with less than 1500 miles on it. Eventually, I found a dealer who was willing to offer me 4K more than the lowball offers I had received, even though they didn't have any inventory. While the car was beautiful, the seat was so uncomfortable that I was willing to sacrifice over 11K to get rid of it. On the other hand, I have had a difficult time with GM Financial. I have called them seven times to get a letter showing that the vehicle was paid off and purchased, but I have been given so many different stories, none of which were correct. I have been on hold for hours and still have not received the letter. As a result, I will not be walking into a GM dealership ever again. UPDATE: I am so glad to be rid of this car, even though it cost me more than 10K.

I really enjoyed the styling both inside and out. The comfort and convenience were acceptable. However, I was disappointed to find out that the car did not come with a multi-disk CD player. It's hard to believe that they use the excuse of 'new tech' for not offering a CD player as an option, but don't offer a 'Dash Camera' as standard which would be considered 'New Tech'. Additionally, the road noise was quite noticeable, even on different types of pavement. At times, I thought that a door, window, or tailgate was open. It's understandable why some customers are moving to foreign vehicle brands. Although the prices keep going up, the quality seems to be going down. I was also disappointed to learn that a 'trailer towing package' is no longer an option. If GM can't offer better options, then I may have to look elsewhere.

We have owned several Cadillacs, from the DTS to the XT5, and have had no issues until recently. Unfortunately, our new XT5 Platinum has had a few problems. However, we were able to get it fixed with the help of a GM engineer. While it was in the garage, we decided to purchase a 2022 XT5. Unfortunately, we experienced some issues with this vehicle as well, but they were promptly addressed by the dealership. Despite these recent challenges, we have always enjoyed owning Cadillacs.
