The Cadillac XT5 (short for Crossover Touring 5) is a compact luxury / D-segment crossover SUV manufactured by General Motors. Overview
The XT5 features technology such as a streaming video rear-view mirror, 360° view backup camera, and the first application in a Cadillac of GM’s Electronic Precision Shift, which replaces the standard hydraulic shifter with an electronic controller. - Summary: i was involved in a front end collision with a car that pulled out in front of me without looking. I ended up T-boning the car at approx. 20-25 MPH. Both myself and my wife were wearing our seat belts. Mine held but the passenger one held only the lap belt part. The shoulder part of the SB allowed her face to go crashing into the dashboard. She ended up with abdominal injuries and head trauma. I took it to the dealer and they say the seat belt will need to be replaced as it is defective. (You think). I can pull on the shoulder strap rapidly and it will not 'catch'.

- Summary: This model Cadillac XT5 has early failures of engine cooling systems thermostats. The thermostat sticks open causing lower engine temperatures and higher emissions. The first sign you have an issue is a reduced power steering assist message on the instrument display. The engine control module stores a p0128 code as current. Continue driving the vehicle the ECM will shut off AC compressor engagement, so no AC. The next thing that happens is you lose temperature gauge. So you are now driving vehicle with reduced power steering assist, no AC and no way of knowing if the engine is overheating. This is a known issue with the refer to GM bulletin # 17-NA-158 posted May 2017. There has been a such a demand for this thermostat, that parts back orders are common. The volume of failures should be addressed as a recall including refunds to owners who have had to pay for this repair. The fact that a colder running engine typically runs richer based on ECM programming, causes higher emissions. GM hasn’t been helping people with this repair for out of warranty vehicles. Our 2017 XT5 failed at 38,000 miles. Cadillac only offered to pay 30% of the repair leaving a balance of $585.00! This was all because GM’s failed part.

- Summary: At approximately [XXX] on [XXX] ,2024 I was at the intersection of [XXX] when my vehicle stopped running completely. All lights on the dash went out and the doors were locked which prevented me from exiting the vehicle. No systems would operate at all. All I could do was sit there. Fortunately, I had a cell phone with me. I called my local Cadillac Dealer for advice, they had very little. finally a lady there told me she would call a tow company they recommended, which she did and the tow company, Shawnee Auto Body did respond about 20-30 minutes later. In the meantime, a gentleman from a local tree company arrived on the scene and helped me, by placing an orange traffic cone behind the vehicle to keep oncoming vehicles from rearending me. after a few minutes the doors did finally allow me to exit the vehicle, which I was unable to do earlier due to the doors still being locked. Upon exiting the vehicle we raised the hood and discovered the negative battery cable was loose causing all power to vehicle systems to be lost. was the cause of the problem. The replacement Intrstate Brand Battery that i have in the vehicle negative post is smaller than the automobile cable that comes on the car and apparently when the man installed the replacement battery he failed to notify me he was unable to tighten the cable as it should have been which allowed it to become loose and vibrate off the post over a period of time. This is a major problem that needs immediate attention. What if the vehicle would have been on fire or something? I would have been trapped in the vehicle and unable to escape due to the doors remaining locked when power was lost. Contacted local dealer and was informed this is a KNOWN problem with the thermostat sticking open. If this had been in the summer the A/C would not have worked. I was informed I could bring in the vehicle to have the codes cleared and the parts would have to be ordered. Due to backlog of parts, it was unknown when the parts would be available. In searching internet there are a significant number of owners who have experienced the same issue. In consulting the mechanic, I use, I was informed this is an issue with the motor in my vehicle. The same motor is in other GMC products, and he has 3 vehicles in his shop with the same issue waiting parts.

- Summary: Message Displayed on 2017 Cadillac XT-5 "Steering Assist is Reduced - Drive With Care". No check engine light, and no apparent loss of steering. Noted that Temperature Gauge and Air Conditioning ceased to work. Suspiciously, a 2019 Cadillac XT-5 that I also own, the identical displayed message came on, with identical same mechanical issue, and just learned that an acquaintance with a newer Chevy Blazer just experienced the identical issue also. All vehicles are equipped with OnStar. Coincidence, OR any possibility that GM or OnStar computers have been hacked into, as OnStar has ability to control various functions of vehicles. To correct the issue (possibly only temporary) was to remove the negative battery cable for a short time, and reattach.

- Summary: Vehicle completely shut off while crossing over a four lane highway to enter a shopping center. Safety could have been highly at risk to both passenger, on coming traffic side, and driver. Luckily the cars coming were far enough back that they were able to stop. I took my vehicle to the dealership where I bought the car brand new in 2018. They test drove the vehicle while hooked to a computer but could not find a problem. They tightened all connections to battery and other components and did updates to the computer on the vehicle. There was no warnings whatsoever that the vehicle was about to completely shut off. Previous to this incident I had been driving on 95S from Warrenton Vs to Clayton NC. I don't even like to think of what would have happened on 95 if my vehicle would have completely shut down. I am sure I probably would not be writing this report. Looking on the web this has happened to others with this same year and model of Cadillac.

- Summary: While driving my Cadillac XT5 on the busy highway during the early afternoon, without warning the sunroof glass made a loud pop sound immediately followed by shattered glass. Glass fell all over the driver’s head and body impairing my vision and causing me to make sudden stop on the shoulder of the highway. There is problem with the sunroof breaking and shattering glass while driving. Insurance claim filed and private auto glass dealer made repairs in excess of $1300. Shards of glass still remain in the sunroof screen closure until taken to auto detailed for removal at an additional cost to me, the registered owner. I dive in fear that this may occur again without warning which could pose extreme danger or accident.

In reviewing this the consumer reports I found out that this was one of the worst years of making the xt5 and a recall was done for 2017 but for the cars that was manufactory in 2016. if a car get on the dealers floor in 2017 most likely it was manufactured in 2016. so I want to know why my car hasn't been notify for a recall and I'm having to take this car to the shop on three or four occasions for the same problem. - Summary: The vehicle's park brake system failed to actuate resulting in unsafe parking of vehicle on hills/slopes. The service park brake light activated on the dash. Vehicle was taken to dealership to investigate. They confirmed park brake system was not working. This vehicle has electronic actuators for the park brake function on each rear wheel. The dealership did not find any defective components but determined the vehicle software was the root cause. The software was reset and the system now performs as intended. I am very concerned that a software failure associated with a key parking brake safety system can occur with no known cause.

I had to take my SRX in for warranty work and was given the XT5 AWD as a loaner for a day. Here are my thoughts based on the 55 miles I put on it. The XT5 is similar to my 4-month-old SRX in terms of pricing and trim level. However, the XT5 is different in a few ways. The engine is newer with an auto-start-stop function and a newer transmission. I noticed right away that the LED lights are standard and the headlights are not halogen like the similar trim SRX. The ride is quiet, smooth, and sure-footed. The nagging windspeed noise originating from the panoramic roof on the SRX seems to have been resolved. The placement of several buttons on the SRX, such as parking brake or Onstar, have been moved around. So there will be a learning curve for SRX drivers when they upgrade to the XT5. Most importantly, several Your XT5 comes with collision warning, cross traffic alerts, and the seats have a vibrate function to alert you of imminent dangers on the road. Additionally, the XT5 has a more spacious interior and feels lighter while driving compared to the SRX. Overall, it is a significant improvement over the SRX. If you have a larger family or require more space than the XT5 but cannot afford to purchase an Escalade, I recommend waiting until the XT7 comes out in the 2018-19 timeframe.

The start/stop feature in my car has not turned off in almost 3 weeks and about 1000 miles of driving. Despite contacting the service department at the dealer, I received conflicting advice from the service adviser and the salesman. To ensure the safety of my car, I visited the dealer's service department today. The service adviser provided me with reasons why the system may not work and assured me that I would receive a warning from the car if something was wrong. While he did not check my car, he did mention that there are many XT5's out there and none have reported a start/stop problem. I am confident that the issue will be resolved and my car will be functioning properly soon.

It can take a little while to get used to the operation of the dashboard controls, but after a month, I think I have it down. Although I'm not completely happy with the shift lever operation, I have to say that I love this car. The lane keeping feature is very handy, and it reminds you not to take your hands off the steering wheel. Additionally, it shows you the distance you are from the car ahead of you in seconds. Overall, I think it's a much better car than my old Lincoln MKX.

I'm so glad I chose this mid-size SUV from GM! It's affordable and has exceeded my expectations. As someone who has been a loyal Ford buyer for the past 12 years, I searched high and low for a mid-sized SUV that had great looks, handling, and most importantly, an interior that wasn't just black or grey. It's frustrating that so many cars today only offer premium models with upgraded features like navigation and non-grey/black interiors. Luckily, this SUV has comfortable seats, plenty of room, handles like a dream, and looks amazing. Plus, I was able to get an impressive 37mpg on the highway! The only minor issue I've noticed is that the 8 gear shifting could be a bit smoother, but I've found that to be the case with other vehicles with 8 speeds as well. I even test drove a Land Rover and it couldn't seem to figure out what gear it was in - definitely not a good sign! I never used to be a GM fan, but this Caddy has reminded me of what Cadillac used to be!

My experience with my 2nd Cadillac has been disappointing. However, I believe in the potential of GM to improve their product. I had to replace the driver's seat of my XT5 at 3k and the front door molding buckled at corners on both sides, but they were promptly replaced. The paint on all four wheels started coming off, but the issue is being resolved at the shop. Although the ride quality is not as good as my F150, I believe that GM can improve it. The auto stop feature could have been better tested before marketing it. I am currently in a loaner, but I am hopeful that my car will be back soon. I am disappointed with the depreciation, but I am willing to wait and see how GM improves their product. I appreciate the effort that GM is putting into their cars, but I may consider a Lexus in the future.

I purchased a brand new 2017 xt5 and unfortunately experienced multiple issues at just 19,000 miles. Despite having to replace the front passenger airbag and thermostat, I was disappointed to encounter further problems with the brake assist and another airbag notice. These issues were unexpected and should not have occurred at such a low mileage. As a result, I made the decision to sell the car and will not be purchasing another one. It is important to exercise caution when considering this vehicle, as several of my friends have also experienced similar issues.

The car's interior build quality and start/stop feature were very poor, resulting in rattles and squeaks from day one. The engine and transmission also underperformed, despite having 310 hp. Passing was a chore due to the need to rev the engine to a high level. However, I decided to switch to a new Audi allroad, which I am very happy with.

I purchased my 2017 Cadillac XT5 as soon as it arrived at the dealership and was excited to take delivery. Although the wireless charger never worked with my iPhone 8plus, I had no other problems during the first 25,000 miles. However, after reaching 25,000 miles, I noticed that occasionally when I put my vehicle into gear, the SUV would jerk horribly. The dealership explained that it was a design flaw of the XT5 and would not cause any problems, just a jerk. Fast forward to 50,100 miles and out of warranty, the blind spot monitor went completely out, the electronic system would not read either one of the key fobs even after battery changes, the rear camera would not work, and the tires started peeling and had to be replaced (20” Michelin tires). After expensive repairs, I decided to look into trading it in. Unfortunately, my 54,000 Cadillac is now worth at best (and trust me I baby my vehicles) 29,000. I must say that I am very disappointed and will think long and hard before purchasing another Cadillac.

I recently traded my 2015 SRX for a roomier car that I thought was beautiful. Unfortunately, I seem to have received a 'lemon'. The electronics on this car have given me a lot of trouble in the first year. The stop-start feature didn't work, the key fob was bad, the alarm system randomly went off, and the heated seats and steering wheel quit working. To make matters worse, I made the mistake of leasing the car. Neither the dealership nor GM was willing to work with me to get out of the lease. Although I wanted to buy another Cadillac from them, no deal was made. While I think Cadillac makes a good product, this particular one has not met my expectations. I will not be returning to the same dealership, but I am still considering purchasing another GM product.
