2014 Cadillac Cts problems
The Cadillac CTS is a luxury car, manufactured and marketed by General Motors from 2003 until 2019 across three generations.
Initially available as a 4-door sedan on the GM Sigma platform, GM had offered the second generation CTS in three body styles: 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe, and 5-door sport wagon also using the Sigma platform — and the third generation was offered only as a sedan, using a stretched version of the GM Alpha platform. High performance sedan variants were offered for each generation, as the CTS-V — with wagon and coupe variants offered for the second generation.
Wayne Cherry and Kip Wasenko designed the exterior of the first generation CTS, marking the production debut of a design language marketed as "Art and Science," first used on the Evoq concept car. John Manoogian III directed the second generation CTS design. Bob Boniface and Robin Krieg designed the exterior of the third generation CTS.
The CTS ended production in 2019 and was replaced by the CT5, which shared its platform with the third and final generation of the CTS in addition to the smaller CT4.

Common 2014 Cadillac Cts problems
The 2014 Cadillac CTS has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to its interior accessories and transmission system.
Interior accessories issues are particularly prevalent in the 2014 model year. Many owners have complained about the touchscreen display cracking for no apparent reason. These issues can affect the overall user experience and convenience of the vehicle.
Transmission problems are another area of concern for the 2014 Cadillac CTS. Numerous models have experienced transmission system issues, which are mainly attributed to fluid-related problems, such as low fluid levels, ruptured transmission seals, and a faulty torque converter. These issues can lead to transmission failure, which is a significant concern for any vehicle.
In addition to these problems, the 2014 Cadillac CTS has also been reported to have issues with its steering wheel position sensor, which can cause the car to display a service stability message and engage the brakes or cruise control unexpectedly, or cause the vehicle to swerve to one side. This can be a serious safety issue and should be addressed promptly.
It's worth noting that the 2014 Cadillac CTS received a reliability rating of 3 out of 5 from Consumer Reports, which is not the worst rating but still indicates that there are significant problems with this model year.
In conclusion, while the 2014 Cadillac CTS is a reliable vehicle overall, it does have some common problems related to its interior accessories and transmission system. Owners of this model year should be aware of these issues and consider addressing them promptly to ensure the safe and reliable operation of their vehicle.

STEERING,POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-11
- VIN: 1G6AX5SX9E0
- Components: STEERING,POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I just recently purchased my Cadillac. And the rear end is going out! I literally cannot even drive it anywhere because it is about to lock up completely. It will barely go and definitely doesn't want or like to go uphill. I could hardly go 20 miles per hour when I parked it the other night. There has not been an incident yet but if I hadn't parked it, it could've locked up completely when I was going down the highway is what my mechanic friend told me. It was not bad until just the day before it got to this point. It was making a little bit of a humming noise which I thought was just a wheel bearing the other night because that's exactly what it sounded like. But, the night I parked it it had started making like a loud thumping noise when I would try to accelerate. The more I would accelerate the louder the noise and it just didn't want to go. So, I parked it and that's where it's been since. So, I got online to look and see if there were any recalls for this issue. I find that there is a recall for the 2014 Cts-V for the rear end. I think it's not only the Cts-V models I think it's the regular Cts's as well. Can you check into this for me because I literally just bought this car and haven't even gotten my license plate yet and now I can't even do that or go anywhere for that matter. I am a business owner and I rely on my vehicle and I can't even get to work to open my store right now,. I would greatly appreciate it if you could check into if this recall shouldn't be extended to the regular Cts models as well. Thanks and have a great day.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-05
- VIN: 1G6AX5S35E0
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The gears inside the rear-differential of a 2014 CTS Luxury 3.6 liter Cadillac, with 48,000 miles, failed to the point where the whole differential had to be replaced. This defect is extremely dangerous to the owner of the vehicle, as well as others on the road. If the differential fails to the point where the tires lock up, the driver can lose control of the car. There were no warning messages relating to the problem and the problem did not come on gradually. There was a sudden loud grinding noise that came from the rear of the car, while driving, and the car was immediately taken to a Cadillac dealership for inspection. The dealership mechanic/technician determined that the rear differential completely failed and needed to be replaced. (The oil was drained from the differential and there were metal shavings inside the oil.) Upon research on the internet, it was determined that this rear-differential defect is an extensive problem, as other 2014 Cadillac CTS owners are experiencing a similar problem. Cadillac has recalled the 2014 CTS-V for this rear differential defect but has not acknowledged the same problem with the 2014 CTS 3.6 liter (it appears to be the same product/part design.)

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-01
- VIN: 1G6AS5S36E0
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: 2014 CTS 3.6 Differential was replaced in 2019 under manufactures warranty. Les than 50k miles later the differential has gone out again. The dealer will not honor the previous install and wants to charge me close to $6k to fix. This is a known problem with every model because they all have the same differential. GM will only honor the turbo version of the 2014 CTS with the same defective rear end. This can be very dangerous if the rear end locks while driving at any speed. GM is putting my family and others on the road by ignoring a known issue. I am calling out Putnam Cadillac in Berlingame Ca. taking a blind eye to a known issue.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-03
- VIN: 1G6AP5SXXE0
- Components: POWER TRAIN

The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the rear tires needed to be replaced. The contact had both rear tires replaced; however, the loud grinding noise recurred and was also heard a sound when starting the vehicle, shifting into drive(D) and slowly accelerating. The contact took the vehicle back to the same dealer who determined that the rear differential needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-10-01
- VIN: 1G6AY5S36E0
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Rear Differential is failing, making a loud grinding, howling, screeching sound. Cadillac has already recalled rear diff on same year CTS-V (some models), but not for this or other CTS models, but finding replacement parts is almost impossible because a LOT of people are having the exact same failure.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-12-13
- VIN: 1g6ap5sx9e0
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Differential is going bad and it’s only got 60k miles on it and if the wheels lock up that is bad. And I can’t find the part nowhere.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-14
- VIN: 1g6ar5s39e0
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: 2014 CTS with 53,000 miles. Loud whining noise started in rear of vehicle. Went to the shop and was told that the rear differential is bad. Technician stated that this is a known widespread problem with this model Cadillac. He also stated that there are no parts available and has 9 other customers waiting for the manufacturer to supply the part. He is being told by GM that it could be up to 6 months wait for the parts. Why is there not a recall. I hope that nobody gets seriously injured due to the faulty parts!
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-05-20
- VIN: 1G6AX5SX7E0
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The rear differential failing at very low mileage on the 2014 and others models and years using the same part is a very common issue. The CTSV model was recalled and not the cts models. Even though it’s the same part but just one single different number in the part number. This is very offsetting being that it’s a costly part and requires costly replacement. It almost always can never be repaired but only replaced. Cadillac has recognized that it’s an issue but only recalled the CTS vsport models. Even though it’s the same exact part. My car isn’t able the be driven due to this due to high demand of the part making it very difficult to find. The part number is 84110751.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-10-01
- VIN: 1G6AX5S37E0
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I have 75,000 miles on a 2014 Cadillac and the rear differential is bad, they have recalled this same differential on the same year of vehicle but only if it was in the turbo model. What's the difference? same part, same thing is wrong.
SUSPENSION,POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-10-05
- VIN: 1G6AR5S38E0
- Components: SUSPENSION,POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Rear Carrier Assembly is making grinding noise. Mechanic says that driving car could be life threatening. GM and Cadillac dealership has no parts. So car is useless. The car has 56,000 miles. There should be a recall and remedy for this Model, 2014 Cadillac 3.6L CTS. Especially when the V version of this car already has a recall. GM should be held accountable for this design flaw.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-06-01
- VIN: 1G6AX5SX1E0
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: General Motor's design oversights irreversibly damaged the rear differential carrier of my 2014 Cadillac CTS4 around 75,000 to 80,000 miles. Unfortunately, there is no prior indication of the rear differential carrier assembly leaking fluid or damaging the bearing. Only after the problem occurs, the rear differential assembly starts to make a whining sound that can be heard in the cabin of the vehicle. Unfortunately, the whining sound is a clear indicator that the rear differential assembly is damaged irreversibly. The lack of differential fluid in rear differential carrier assembly can lead to a catastrophic failures. The complete failure of the rear differential assembly would result in internal gears seizing up and locking of the rear wheels. Likewise, there is no prior indicators of when the rear wheels will seize up. On highways speeds, this problem can create dangerous and even life threating conditions to the occupants of the vehicle as well as the other motorists sharing the road.

Was told to rebuild or find a used part from junkyard. 2 independent service centers confirmed differential is malfunctioning. • No warning lamps to notify you , loud roaring, grinding noise can be heard .
2014 Cadillac Cts recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 6 recalls for different components of the 2014 Cadillac Cts.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: SEATS:FRONT ASSEMBLY:SEAT HEATER/COOLER
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Cadillac CTS vehicles, equipped with heated front seats. The flexible heating mats in the front seats may be damaged over time, resulting in the seat heaters producing excessive heat.
- Consequence: In cold ambient temperatures, the seat heaters in these vehicles can turn on automatically when the vehicle is remotely started. If a damaged seat heater is turned on while no one is inside the vehicle, the damaged seat heater can overheat, increasing the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will recalibrate the body control module, disabling the automatic activation of the heated seat when the vehicle is remotely started, free of charge. The recall began November 1, 2018. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for the recall is 18286.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Cadillac CTS, Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Yukon XL, and 2014 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Express, Impala, Silverado HD, Traverse, GMC Acadia, Savana, and Sierra HD vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the chassis electronic module may be internally contaminated, resulting in an electrical short.
- Consequence: If the module experiences an electrical short, the vehicle could stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the chassis electronic module, free of charge. The recall began on December 26, 2014. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-006 (Cadillac), 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), and 1-800-462-8782 (GMC). GMs number for this recall is 14515.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: SEATS
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Buick Encore and Cadillac ATS; 2014 Cadillac CTS, ELR, Chevrolet Caprice and SS vehicles; and 2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Trucks. Due to an incomplete weld on the seat hook bracket assembly, the front seats in the affected vehicles may not stay secured in place during a high load condition such as a crash.
- Consequence: A seat that does not stay secured increases the risk of occupant injury in a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the seat hook bracket assembly weld and replace the lower seat track, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on August 15, 2014. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), and 1-800-462-8782 (GMC). GM's number for this recall is 14340.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 2, 2014 that they are recalling 554,328 model year 2003-2014 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured August 16, 2001, to April 28, 2014, and 2004-2006 Cadillac SRX vehicles manufactured March 20, 2003, to August 11, 2006. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 15, 2014. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14172.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Cadillac ATS vehicles manufactured April 23, 2012, to March 20, 2014, and 2014 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured June 10, 2013, to March 20, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the transmission shift cable may detach from either the bracket on the transmission shifter or the bracket on the transmission.
- Consequence: If the transmission shift cable detaches while the vehicle is being driven, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, despite selecting the 'PARK' position, the transmission may not be in 'PARK.' If the vehicle is not in the 'PARK' position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to make sure the cable is properly seated at the transmission and shifter brackets, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in early August 2014. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14179.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER:MOTOR
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured June 10, 2013, through February 26, 2014. If the vehicle is turned off with wiper functionality left on and the wipers then become restricted, such as when covered in ice or snow, and the vehicle's battery goes dead and needs to be jump started, upon being jump started, the wipers will be inoperative.
- Consequence: An inoperative windshield wiper system may decrease the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front wiper module, free of charge. The recall began on July 14, 2104. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14157.

This vehicle was more than I expected. My husband and I love it! It has a lot of extra features.
-
I absolutely adore this car! As a 23-year-old who has always been a fan of sporty cars, the CTS with the 2.0t engine feels amazing with its smooth acceleration and instant torque. The build quality is top-notch and it has held up well even after 70,000 miles, with no annoying rattles or loose interior bits. I have used my CTS as a daily commuter for the past year and have taken multiple 1000 mile+ road trips. The car is quite comfortable and handles like a dream on the road, especially with magnetic ride control. Living in Michigan, I have had no issues driving through snow or ice thanks to the AWD and Pirelli P-Zero near all seasons that are on it. My only minor complaint with this car is the transmission. While the 6-speed auto shifts fantastically during spirited driving, it can be a little jerky at times when cruising through traffic at light throttle. Overall, I absolutely love this car and would highly recommend it!
-
Hi there! It seems like your Cue entertainment system is acting a bit erratic.
-
I recently traded in my '08 CTS 3.6 performance for a '14 CTS 3.6 Luxury with options. I absolutely loved my '08, and I'm happy to say that this one is even better. The interior materials are well done, giving it a rich and luxurious feel. The car rides very solidly, and the cabin is much quieter. It's loaded with all sorts of technology, making it a joy to drive. During the test drive, I found that the 2.0T 4 cylinder 6 speed was plenty powerful and packed a punch, which should be adequate for most drivers. However, I chose the 6 cyl 8 speed as I was used to it and it should make driving even more fun.

The 2014 Cadillac CTS 2.0T is a great car that offers a lot of luxury features. While it may not feel as engaging at high speeds as the 3.6, it is still fast to respond at low speeds (0-50). At higher speeds, it maintains a comfortable ride and you may not even realize you're driving at 80mph. The handling is excellent, although it may feel a bit slow in sharp turns. The front seats are extremely comfortable and the exterior design is a real head-turner. People love this car and are always impressed by the luxurious interior. While my tall 12-year-old daughter thinks the back seat is a bit cramped, I can't say for sure as I've never sat in the back. The only downside is the CUE system 2.0HMI, which can be slow and laggy and sometimes turns off unexpectedly. However, I've heard that the upgraded nav CUE system is much better. The car is fantastic with a warranty! It's the best looking Cadillac ever made (besides the CT6). I did have to replace the front struts, sway bar, and bushings at 42,000 miles, and then at 47,000 miles the engine light came on and the fuel pump control module had to be replaced. I just got it back, but unfortunately, the engine light came back on the next day. I'm going back to the dealership tomorrow, but at least it's a great car with a warranty! Haha.

2014 ATS Performance: CUE screen froze at 56,000 miles, 4 years old. Rear differential needed to be replaced in 2019 at 74,000 miles. Although it's a beautiful vehicle, it seems to have some major issues and poor reliability.

Living in Los Angeles means I spend a lot of time on the freeway, dealing with stop-and-go traffic. Unfortunately, my car's engine doesn't perform well at low speeds, around 15 mph, when it's shifting to the next gear. This causes the car to jump when shifting gears. However, when accelerating, the gears shift fine with no issues. The car struggles again at around 45 mph, where you need to press on the accelerator again. Additionally, the car has a rough idle, and the touch screen isn't responsive at certain spots. The sensors also activate when the car is at a complete stop, and no car is moving. The sensors in the car will beep for a minute then stop. Lastly, when backing up, if you're near something and lift your leg off the brake, the car will do a shuddering self-brake, which can be quite startling. Overall, I don't think it's worth the money.
