2009 Mercury Grand marquis problems
The Mercury Grand Marquis is an automobile that was produced by Mercury from the 1975 until 2011 model years. Introduced as the flagship sub-model of the Mercury Marquis in 1975, the Grand Marquis became a stand-alone model line in 1983, serving as the largest Mercury sedan. The model line served as the sedan counterpart of the Mercury Colony Park station wagon up to 1991. The fourth generation was the basis of the 2003 and 2004 Mercury Marauder.
From 1979 until 2011, the Grand Marquis shared the rear-wheel drive (RWD) Panther platform with the Ford LTD Crown Victoria (Ford Crown Victoria after 1992), and from 1980, the Lincoln Town Car. For over three decades, the Ford and Mercury sedans were functionally identical, with two of the three generations of the model line sharing the same roofline. The Grand Marquis was available as a four-door sedan for nearly its entire run; from 1988 to its final year in 2011, it was the only body style that was offered. A four-door hardtop was available from 1975 to 1978 and a two-door hardtop coupe from 1975 to 1987.
The Grand Marquis was the second-best-selling Mercury line (after the Cougar) with 2.7 million units produced; at 36 years of continuous production, the Grand Marquis was the longest-running Mercury nameplate (the Cougar, 34 years). Ford manufactured the Grand Marquis, alongside the Mercury Marquis, Mercury Marauder, Ford (LTD) Crown Victoria, and (beginning in 2007) the Lincoln Town Car, at two facilities: the St. Louis Assembly Plant in Hazelwood, Missouri (1979-1985) and the St. Thomas Assembly Plant in Southwold, Ontario, Canada (1986-2011).
Ford announced the discontinuation of the Mercury brand in 2010, but a few 2011 model-year Mercurys were made. The last Grand Marquis - and the final Mercury branded car - was produced on January 4, 2011, at St. Thomas Assembly.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-24
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 2MEHM75V49X
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: An SUV crashed into an apple store in Hingham Mass. The driver told police his foot became stuck to the gas pedal. More likely his foot became hooked under the brake pedal as he tried to quickly shift his foot from the gas pedal up and to the left onto the brake pedal. This has happened to me several times after accelerating and then having to make a 'panic' stop. I had to quickly wiggle-foot from under to the top of the brake pedal. Brake pedals should be changed from a T shaped to a 7 shaped configuration. This would eliminate the hook. T configuration-the 'stem' is attached under the center of the brake pedal 7 configuration-the 'stem' is attached under the right edge of the brake pedal

- VIN: 2MEHM75V09X

I HAVE ALSO NOTED THAT THERE ARE HOLES IN THE SIDEWALLS ON ALL OF THEM ALONG WITH A LARGE BULGE IN THE RIGHT PASSENGER, SIDE TIRE WALL WITH A TEAR AND LARGE HOLE WHERE THE BULGE IS. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2013-06-14
- VIN: 2MEHM75V59X
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: I HAD CHECKED THE TIRE PRESSURES PRIOR TO A ROAD TRIP AND FOUND THEM AT 38 PSI. I RESET THE PRESSURES TO THE SPEC OF 33 PSI. SHORTLY THE TIRE MONITOR CAME ON AND SIGNALED A LOW TIRE PRESSURE. I RECHECKED AND THEY WERE OK. DURING MY TRIP THE LIGHT WOULD KEEP COMING ON AND I TRIED TO RESET THE SYSTEM TO NO AVAIL. ON MY RETURN, THE POWER DOOR LOCKS KEPT MALFUNCTIONING. THE DOOR KEY PAD WOULD WORK SOMETIME FOR BOTH THE DOORS AND TRUNK. THE NEXT TIME THEY MIGHT NOT. THE DOOR SWITCHES ON BOTH PASSENGERS AND DRIVERS SIDE WOULD WORK SOMETIMES. WITH BOTH THE TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM AND THE DOOR LOCKS ACTING UP AND CREATING A NUISANCE, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, TWO RIVER FORD IN MOUNT JULIET, TN.. THE FOUND A SHORTED WIRE IN THE HARNESS GOING TO THE DRIVERS SIDE MODULE THAT COORDINATES MOST OF THE SAFETY SYSTEMS ON THE CAR. THERE WAS NO FIRE IN MY CASE, HOWEVER, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN. I DID RECEIVE A BILL FOR $272.30. MY CONCERN IS THAT FORD APPARENTLY DOES NOT ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT I CONSIDER A SAFETY ISSUE WHETHER IT WAS CAUSED BY POOR SYSTEM DESIGN ON THE HARNESS LAYOUT OR ELECTRICAL CURRENT EXCEEDING THE WIRING CAPABILITIES. WAS IT CAUSED BY EXCESSIVE MOVEMENT IN THE HARNESS OR WAS IT CURRENT GOING THROUGH THE WIRES AS I TRIED TO RESET THE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM 20-30 TIMES. I AM MORE THEN INTERESTED IN KNOWING HOW MANY SIMILAR FAILURES FORD HAS HAD IN THE GRAND MARQUIS AND THE FORD CROWN VIC. *TR

MY 23 YEAR OLD SON WAS SEATED NEXT TO ME AND VERIFIED THAT NOTHING WAS TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR WHILE THE ENGINE WAS REVVING AT 2,000 RPM AND THAT BOTH OF MY FEET WERE ON THE BRAKE. THE ENGINE HAS REVVED WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKE AT LEAST SEVEN OTHER TIMES; HOWEVER, THE REVVING STOPPED AFTER ONE OR TWO SECONDS.
