2019 Cadillac Ct6 problems

The Cadillac CT6 (short for Cadillac Touring 6) is a full-size luxury car manufactured by Cadillac between 2016 and 2020 over two generations. The first generation CT6 was introduced at the 2015 New York International Auto Show and went on sale in the U.S. in March 2016. It is the first car to adopt the brand's revised naming strategy, as well as the first rear-wheel drive full-size Cadillac sedan since the Fleetwood was discontinued in 1996.

In 2020, the CT6 was discontinued in the United States, to be replaced by the forthcoming Cadillac Celestiq liftback sedan.

First generation (2016)

The first-generation CT6 is built on a different platform than the smaller CTS and is engineered as a rear-wheel drive vehicle with optional all-wheel drive. In addition to its primary markets of North America and China, the CT6 was also offered in Europe, South Korea, Japan, and the Middle East.

General Motors discontinued the assembly of the Cadillac CT6 in the US in February 2020 due to poor sales and retooling of the Detroit/Hamtramck facility for electric vehicle production, beginning with the new GMC Hummer EV.

Common 2019 Cadillac Ct6 problems

The 2019 Cadillac CT6 has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues primarily revolve around the transmission, brakes, and electronics of the vehicle.

Transmission problems are a significant concern for CT6 owners. Complaints include transmission delays, grinding or jumping when accelerating, and car shaking on the road. These issues can make the driving experience uncomfortable and potentially dangerous. The transmission problems have been severe enough that General Motors (GM) has issued a recall for certain 2019 CT6 vehicles due to software errors in the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM).

Brake problems are another area of concern for CT6 owners. The brake system in the CT6 has been reported to struggle to operate correctly, placing owners and drivers in danger of an accident. Complaints include the brake system failing to engage, loud screeching sounds coming from the wheels, and faulty front radial arms. The brake problems have been brought to the attention of GM, which has issued a brake recall to address the software errors in the EBCM.

Electronics issues have also been reported by CT6 owners. Complaints include the vehicle's sideview mirrors failing to automatically open and the brake booster failing, requiring replacement at just 1,800 miles. The brake system has also been reported to fail to engage while driving the CT6, increasing the risk of accidents for drivers.

Despite these problems, the CT6 is known for its spirited ride and quiet interior. The CT6 base engine is a turbocharged four-cylinder, but there is also a midlevel non-turbo V6 and a V8 version that both offer all-wheel drive as a standard feature.

In summary, the 2019 Cadillac CT6 has several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues primarily revolve around the transmission, brakes, and electronics of the vehicle. While the CT6 is known for its spirited ride and quiet interior, the transmission, brake, and electronics issues can make the driving experience uncomfortable and potentially dangerous. GM has issued recalls to address some of these issues, but owners may still experience problems with their vehicles.

  • VIN: 1G6KESRS9KU
  • Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
  • Summary: HELLO, ON AN ESTIMATED 8+ TIMES, I PUT MY VEHICLE INTO GEAR, DROVE OFF AND BOTH MY SIDE VIEW MIRRORS WERE IN THE CLOSED/UP POSITION. I HAVE LEARNED FROM GM SUPPORT THAT GM DID NOT DEVELOP SOFTWARE WHERE THE MIRRORS AUTOMATICALLY OPEN: WHEN EITHER OPENING THE DOORS OR PUTTING INTO GEAR. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND I HAD NEVER EXPERIENCED ON MY FORMER MERCEDES E-350 LEASES, THIS SAFETY TECHNOLOGY WAS STANDARD. THE LATEST INCIDENT I WAS DRIVING ON A MAIN WEST TO EAST ROUTE FOR ABOUT 2 MILES, NEEDED TO GET INTO THE RIGHT LANE, WENT TO LOOK AT MY RIGHT MIRROR, AND IT WAS COMPLETELY FOLDED UP. IT WAS VERY, VERY DANGEROUS, ALMOST GOT ME REAR-ENDED SINCE I BRAKED HARD WHEN I NOTICED AND I ALMOST SIDE-SWIPED THE CAR TO MY RIGHT.

Negative 2019 Cadillac Ct6 car reviews

  1. Enrique Harvey 2025-09-01

I've owned four cars before my current one, including a Volkswagen Phaeton and three Hyundai Genesis models (2011, 2013, and 2015). I recently purchased a 3.6L Luxury Cadillac CT6 and have driven it for 2,000 miles. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it handles for a larger car. The steering is precise, making it easy to maneuver. The car is also very quiet and smooth, making for a serene driving experience. While it may not be as quiet as the Genesis G80 at higher speeds, it still meets my standards for a comfortable ride. I was initially hesitant to consider a Cadillac due to their reputation for being floaty and boat-like, but this car is anything but. I was won over by its safety features, quiet ride, and handling. Unfortunately, I have had some initial quality issues with the car, including the console cover falling off and a gouge in the right front wheel. However, these were minor issues that were quickly resolved under warranty. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend the Cadillac CT6 to anyone looking for a comfortable and reliable car.It was replaced, but I had to go back to the dealer a second time because the air pressure monitor stopped working in that wheel after replacing it. When the car goes into 4-cylinder mode, there is a slight vibration that seems like either the timing is off a little or there is a torque converter shudder. It is almost imperceptible, but I can feel it. On the plus side, it doesn't go into 4-cylinder mode often. I find it hard to believe that Cadillac engineers designed it to drive that rough in 4-cylinder mode. My dealer doesn't feel it's out of spec. The driver's seat is squeaking. It normally doesn't start until I have a few miles in and the car is warmer, but it is getting increasingly bad. If I bounce my butt up and down, I can make it sound like a cheap motel bed. When driving, it is apparent when I hit a bump or corner. This just bugs me, and I am going to end up getting it fixed or shoot the car. I also think the dealer prep was lazy. I had to have them work on both my windshield and side view mirrors because of some kind of residue that made my windshield look sandblasted and the side view mirrors smudged and dirty-looking. I tried resolving these myself with window cleaner and scrubbing to no avail. I don't know what they used, but it's mostly okay now. I will say, once these issues are taken care of, I will absolutely love the car. But these niggling issues should not exist on a $65,000 car. That said, I love the drive, the quiet, and the value. Would I buy it again? At this price point, you aren't going to get another car that offers the quiet, size, comfort, and safety, combined with the precision steering on anything like this. In short, if I don't buy a Genesis G80 Sport, my next option would be this. For reference, I test drove Acura, Audi (I own an A5 Cabriolet), Volvo, Genesis G80 Sport, Kia Stinger (wife vetoed that one), Buick Regal Wagon, and Honda Accord. The Genesis falls a little short on interior materials compared to the Cadillac, but it has a better infotainment system and real knobs for the radio and A/C controls. At this point, I would call it a toss-up. However, if the Genesis had just a slightly better interior, it would have won out. UPDATE: Although more time has passed, I still regret to say that I am not satisfied with my purchase. The car rumbles horribly every time it goes into 4 cylinder mode, which is unacceptable. The dealer claims it's normal, but I disagree. Additionally, the driver's seat squeaks worse and worse the longer I own it, which is frustrating. I hope they will fix it soon. The infotainment system needs tweaking, as the lack of buttons means there are always fingerprints all over the big beautiful 10-inch screen. These things may seem small, but as an owner and driver, they matter. Especially the seats and the rumble. I regret my purchase and wish I had bought a Genesis G80 Sport.

  2. Raleigh Roob 2025-07-25

My 2017 Cadillac CT-6 has unfortunately experienced some issues during the 20 weeks that I have owned it. Despite having to visit the shop for approximately 4 of those weeks, I remain confident in the car's potential. While there have been some challenges, such as the need to replace the brake pedal assembly and seat belt tightening motor, as well as a rattling noise in the headliner, I am optimistic that these issues can be resolved. I have brought the car to two dealerships for assistance, and while the issue with the headliner has not yet been resolved, I am hopeful that a solution can be found. Additionally, the brakes have been known to squeak intermittently, but I am confident that this issue can also be addressed. Overall, I believe that the Cadillac CT-6 is a great looking car with a lot of potential, and I am looking forward to enjoying it fully once these issues have been resolved.

  3. Dashawn Beer 2025-07-10

I had some concerns about the transmission when I purchased this car, but unfortunately, there were several other hidden issues that the dealer did not address before putting it up for sale. The car shakes quite badly due to all four wheels being bent, and I suspect that the shocks/struts are also bad. I did request that the mechanic drive the car to identify any issues, as I had to fly in to see the car before purchasing it. Although the sales manager did drive the car, he did not notice these issues. While the limited warranty is appreciated, I am a bit concerned about the distance between myself and the dealer. If necessary, I may have to drive the car back to have everything fixed, which would be a bit of an inconvenience. Despite these issues, I am hopeful that everything will work out in the end.

  4. Robb Adams 2025-04-03

The 8 speed transmission on the CT6 could use some improvement. The first to second shift can feel jarring at times, and there are moments when it takes a few seconds for the car to shift from first to second, resulting in a temporary loss of power. Despite several complaints, GM and the dealerships have not yet addressed this issue. It's frustrating to experience this in a car that costs over $70,000.

  5. Kendrick Zboncak 2025-02-24

I purchased a preowned certified 2017 Cadillac CT6, which is a lovely car. However, within two weeks of owning it, I noticed that the transmission was clanking and vibrating when shifting into a lower gear. Even my wife, who was sitting in the passenger seat, thought that the car was coming apart.

Positive 2019 Cadillac Ct6 car reviews

  1. Norberto Wiegand 2025-09-11

My family is tall and this CT6 gives much more height than any SUV - including XT4, 5 and Audi's. The car drives wonderfully and is quiet and comfortable. I think it's a shame that SUVs are everywhere - I am more than happy with a luxury sport sedan - something no SUV can deliver.

  2. Jedidiah Keebler 2025-09-06

The combination of simplicity, sophistication, power, and luxury was even better than I expected when I took it for a test drive. It had me as soon as I shut the door. I'm really looking forward to driving this car! It outclassed all the European cars I had prior.

  3. Lorenz Bins 2025-09-02

I've owned this car for a year now and I have to say, I'm truly impressed. I get more compliments on this car than any other car I've owned. This is my fifth car, and even BMW 5 series and Mercedes S series drivers ask me about the CT6 at gas stations and at work. The acceleration of the 3.0 twin turbo is beyond impressive, and the fuel economy is reasonable considering it's a 400 HP car. I've only taken the car on one long road trip to Nashville, and after four hours of driving, I didn't want the trip to end. The car is that much of a joy. It feels much lighter than the 4100 pounds that it is, and it's pretty nimble for a car its size. After one year, I haven't had any unscheduled maintenance. The ride comfort is great, and the rearview mirror that turns into a TV screen to show you the full rear view of the car is amazing! It's a must-have on the highways. I have no regrets, and I highly recommend this car. It's great to see GM back on track with some fantastic products.

  4. Leonard Bruen 2025-08-24

I really love this car! It has great mileage, comfort, and performance. Although, there has been a small issue with a leak between the dash and driver's door when it rains. Despite having to take it to the shop multiple times, the service advisor has always been very friendly and accommodating. Currently, I am working with General Motors for their Buy Back Program. They are offering me a new car at the sticker price of my old one, minus a usage fee. I was worried that the usage fee would be too high, but to my surprise, it was only $400 for two years and two months of owning the car. I now have a brand new CT6! The only downside was that my color options were limited to what was available on my dealer's lot, so I ended up with white instead of my preferred red.

  5. Jennings Hoppe 2025-08-14

Congratulations on your first PHEV! It's great to hear that you've had a smooth handling experience with plenty of power. With 30k miles on the clock, it's impressive that your car is still running well. The 31 mile electric range is perfect for short trips, and it's great that you only need to get gas 2-3 times a year. The CT6 body design is timeless and classy, and it's unfortunate that it's been discontinued. While the infotainment system may not be very intuitive, the sound is good. It's important to make sure the hybrid battery coolant is above full, but once you've got that sorted, you shouldn't have any issues. It's great to hear that you're still using it every day, and with gas prices going up, it's even more of a reason to be happy with your purchase. Sedans are always a favorite body style, and it's great to hear that you're enjoying yours. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!The only way to get to it is to remove the backseat, side panels and rear panels. I decided to let the dealer take care of that. Other than that, the car still drives smoothly and handles well. I absolutely love large sedans because they can fit 5 people comfortably and with style. I only need to get gas (half tank) every 6 months just to make sure the gas won't get stale. At home, we have solar panels and a level 2 charger, so charging the car every night is never an issue.
