Cadillac Ct6 problems
The Cadillac CT6 (short for Cadillac Touring 6) is a full-size luxury car manufactured by Cadillac between 2016 and 2020 over two generations. The first generation CT6 was introduced at the 2015 New York International Auto Show and went on sale in the U.S. in March 2016. It is the first car to adopt the brand's revised naming strategy, as well as the first rear-wheel drive full-size Cadillac sedan since the Fleetwood was discontinued in 1996.
In 2020, the CT6 was discontinued in the United States, to be replaced by the forthcoming Cadillac Celestiq liftback sedan.
First generation (2016)
The first-generation CT6 is built on a different platform than the smaller CTS and is engineered as a rear-wheel drive vehicle with optional all-wheel drive. In addition to its primary markets of North America and China, the CT6 was also offered in Europe, South Korea, Japan, and the Middle East.
General Motors discontinued the assembly of the Cadillac CT6 in the US in February 2020 due to poor sales and retooling of the Detroit/Hamtramck facility for electric vehicle production, beginning with the new GMC Hummer EV.

Common Cadillac Ct6 problems
The Cadillac CT6, a luxury sedan produced by General Motors, has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from its owners. These problems span across various components of the vehicle, including the brakes and transmission.
One of the most critical issues reported is related to the brakes. The brake system in the CT6 has been found to struggle with proper operation, placing its owners and drivers at risk of accidents. Many CT6 owners have reported issues such as the brake system failing to engage, loud screeching sounds coming from the wheels, and the presence of a black greasy material on the wheels. In some cases, these problems have been attributed to faulty radial arms or brake shields. The brake problems in the CT6 have been significant enough to prompt a recall by General Motors due to software errors in the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM). This defect can cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Antilock Braking System (ABS) to malfunction, increasing the risk of accidents for drivers.
Transmission problems are another area of concern for CT6 owners. The 8L transmission in the 2017 CT6, in particular, has been criticized for its performance. Shift points can become corrupted, and shifts between gears can be violent, making the vehicle unpleasant to drive. Downshifts can also cause the vehicle to pulsate as it coasts to a stop. GM has released a fix for the transmission problem, which involves flushing the transmission and refilling it with new fluid.
In addition to these issues, the CT6 has also been reported to have problems with tire life and buggy electronics, which have been persistent issues in previous Cadillac models. The CT6's quality and reliability have generally received negative feedback, but perusing through forums reveals that the issues appear to be modest, particularly for the 2019-2020 model years. However, it is essential to note that the CT6 has had transmission problems in the 2016-2018 model years.
In summary, the Cadillac CT6 has been reported to have several common problems, including issues with the brakes and transmission. These problems have led to recalls and have been significant enough to affect the vehicle's overall reliability rating. Potential buyers should be aware of these issues and consider them when making a purchasing decision.
What problems are with the Cadillac CT6?
Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Cadillac CT6, and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles. Due to an Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) software error, the vehicle's Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Antilock Brake System (ABS) may become disabled.
Is the Cadillac CT6 a good car?
Regardless of engine, the CT6 is hands down the most satisfying large sedan out there to drive, even if its actual performance numbers fall short of the competition's.
Is a Cadillac CT6 expensive to maintain?
A Cadillac CT6 will cost about $9,911 for maintenance and repairs during its first 10 years of service. This beats the industry average for luxury sedan models by $2,050. There is also a 27.02% chance that a CT6 will require a major repair during that time. This is 12.54% better than similar vehicles in this segment.
Which CT6 engine is best?
The engines of the CT6 get better, as you might expect, the higher their rated horsepower goes. That leaves the base turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder as the least satisfying of the bunch and the twin-turbocharged V-8 as the best.

Now the dealer is charging me approximately $1,000.00 for Transmission Fluid. I asked the Technician why the problem wasn't corrected while previously in the shop. No reply. If Cadillac knows this is the problem, why is the customer being charged for this service, if this will correct the problem. There is 64,000 miles on my vehicle.

- Date Complaint: 2023-07-06
- VIN: 1G6KN5R61HU
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: SIDEWALL CRACKING ISSUE WITH ALL FOR TIRES - PIRELLI P ZERO NERO 245/40/R20 While traveling out of town (Dallas to San Antonio) we experienced some tire issues which led to us needing to replace all 4 tires. Several weeks prior, we began to noticed a very slight loss of tire pressure and had the tires checked twice for any objects or other damage – Nothing found. We also had the tires rotated to trouble shoot and rule out any issues with sensors – none. Both times, the service shops did not mention or recognize any tire damage or issues. During our 5 hour drive to San Antonio, we started to see tire pressure issues again along with a noticeable sound from the tires. With this concern, we took vehicle to Firestone for diagnosis and to our surprise they found severe damage and cracks to the side walls of the tires. Firestone confirmed the tire damage was not safe to drive on and due to the location of the damages, we would need to replace all 4 tires. We were shocked to see such severe cracking damage and were at a loss for how this could occur. The tires were in very good condition and still had significant tire tread with even wear. After some research we discovered that this type of side wall tire cracking has been know to happen and even Pirelli has recalled tires for this issue. We did not see a specific recall to this size tire but did find that Pirelli had another recall on tires made in 2016 saying "THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY A PRODUCTION ERROR (INCORRECT CARCASS COMPONENT), AND THE TIRES MAY SHOW SURFACE CRACKING IN THE LOWER SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE...". Please review this claim and confirm receipt. We are hoping to get some kind of reimbursement for the damages that we believe are a result of faulty or defective tires - this is what the Firestone technician also stated on video recording (I can provide video if needed). The vent ducts in the dash and front seat area are positioned too low, which results in poor air circulation into the upper areas of the front cabin. Additionally, there is no storage area in the dash, only a small console. The cup holders in the front console are poorly positioned and too small to hold a coffee mug. However, the car has beautiful exterior styling, with our Passion Red and silver metallic body pin stripe turning heads and receiving many compliments. It is also the quietest car we have ever driven, with very smooth handling. The lane control safety feature works really well. This car replaced our 2008 CTS, which we also liked.

If you're new to owning a luxury sedan, take some time to learn about the features, where they are located, and how to program them. When I transferred from a Cadillac XTS to my CT 6, my learning curve was much shorter. However, some features like the surround vision, USB, and hotspot may take some getting used to. ONSTAR uses the built-in navigation system, so it's important to understand the interface features between Onstar and the onboard navigation system. One feature that can be confusing is the memory setting from your remote key fob. They are not numbered anymore, so you can confuse the memory setting for the seats and mirrors if you transfer remote keys. This is the one feature you should have the dealer explain before you drive your car away. It will save time later. Other than that, curl up with the instruction books and enjoy. After more than a year, I can say that the Premium Red car color is great as well. My car is outside 24/7 and looks clean all the time except during pollen season. Now, three years later, I still love the car, but I will be replacing it with a 2020 Lexus LS 500 F Sport next week. I wanted to upgrade my car to a Double Turbo CT 6 Sport Premium Luxury, but GM discontinued that engine and car, and essentially discontinued me after driving Cadillacs since 2006.

The CT6 has been fully redesigned to be very techie and easy to operate. The only downside is that the owner's manual can be a bit difficult to navigate due to somewhat lacking indexing.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to let you know that I recently purchased a used Cadillac CT6 2017 on December 27th, 2023. Unfortunately, I've noticed that the transmission is slipping or shifting hard. Since the engine light has also come on, I plan on taking it back to the dealer to have it checked out. It's surprising to me that a car with less than 50,000 miles would have such a hard shift. Thanks for your help!

The ride quality of a Cadillac can be negatively impacted by the use of low profile tires. This was observed in both my 2013 XTS and the CT6, where the same type of low tire caused a bumpy ride and even resulted in expensive wheel damage after hitting a curb. It is unfortunate that the smooth ride that Cadillac is known for is being compromised due to the use of incorrect tire height.

Hello everyone, I wanted to share my first ever review with you all. I purchased a used 2017 Cadillac CT6 with 34k miles on it and drove it problem-free for about 3 months. However, after that, I started experiencing some noises and had to take it to the shop 4 times before they finally fixed some cover rattling on the catalytic converter. They ended up welding it instead of repairing it, which did the trick. Unfortunately, the fuel injectors went out and left me stranded. The last straw was when the car would jerk forward while in traffic. I eventually decided to trade it in for a Mercedes S550, which has been the best decision I've made when it comes to cars. I loved Cadillacs and had a DTS prior, but this experience has made me appreciate the importance of a reliable car. Thank you for listening.

I had some concerns about the transmission when I purchased this car, but unfortunately, there were several other hidden issues that the dealer did not address before putting it up for sale. The car shakes quite badly due to all four wheels being bent, and I suspect that the shocks/struts are also bad. I did request that the mechanic drive the car to identify any issues, as I had to fly in to see the car before purchasing it. Although the sales manager did drive the car, he did not notice these issues. While the limited warranty is appreciated, I am a bit concerned about the distance between myself and the dealer. If necessary, I may have to drive the car back to have everything fixed, which would be a bit of an inconvenience. Despite these issues, I am hopeful that everything will work out in the end.
