2019 Bmw X2 problems
The BMW X2 is a line of subcompact luxury crossover SUVs produced by BMW since 2017. It was first showcased as the BMW Concept X2 at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, with a production version unveiled in October 2017. Sales commenced in March 2018. It is considered a sportier and less practical alternative to the X1, as is the case with other even-numbered X models with its respective counterparts, and is now in its second incarnation since 2023.
First generation (F39; 2017)
The X2 (model code F39) is based on the same front-wheel drive UKL2 architecture as the X1 and MINI Countryman, and features the same 2,670 mm (105.1 in) wheelbase length. The X2 is assembled in Regensburg, Germany and is produced alongside the X1. Being a part of BMW X family, the vehicle is also available with xDrive all-wheel drive on higher end models.
Both the sDrive28i and xDrive28i models are available in North American markets.
A plug-in hybrid variant, called the xDrive 25e, was unveiled in January 2020. In September 2020 BMW presented the special variant M Mesh Edition with a sporty look.
Production concluded on 11 October 2022, about 13 months prior to the launch of the next generation.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

- Summary: My battery died. After a AAA jump, the car started fine but the right-rear-taillight-signal malfunctioned. It was working fine prior to the battery dying. I purchased a new battery and the mechanic said my right-rear-taillight was getting an electrical signal and the bulb work, but I needed a completely new taillight component ($300!) because it still was not working. While researching parts, I came across a YouTube 'fix' that showed that within the lightbulb compartment, there was a little piece of plastic that was MELTED preventing a mental piece on the lightbulb casing from touching the metal on the compartment preventing the light from coming on. My mechanic sanded down the melted plastic so the two metal parts could touch, and low and behold, the right-rear-taillight-signal worked just fine. Now I don't know if a battery failure could cause an electrical shock to this little piece of plastic but in the comments on this Youtube "fix", this same scenario happed to someone else with an X2 and their battery died and the right-rear-taillight-signal immediately failed. Is there a connection? What caused that little piece to melt??

- Summary: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2018-2019 BMW X1 sDrive28i, X1 xDrive28i, 2019 X2 xDrive28i, MINI Cooper S Convertible, Countryman, and John Cooper Works Countryman vehicles. The steering gear tie rod may have been assembled incorrectly, which may result in excessive wear of the tie rod end, eventually causing it to break.
- Consequence: A broken steering tie rod would lead to a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace the tie rods and ball joints as necessary, free of charge. The recall began October 11, 2019. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or MINI customer service at 1-866-825-1525.

We were delighted when BMW offered their fantastic X2 lease program at the end of August. Although it's not as great now, it's still their best lease incentive, especially on the X2 xDrive as per their website. The X2 is a fantastic combination of everything BMW in a very cool package that is very different from most everything else in this segment. The X2 is perfect for empty-nesters who are no longer soccer moms and who no longer need or want 7 passenger seating when it is not needed 95% of the time. We had a first-generation X1 which we enjoyed greatly and recently a 320 xDrive with a unique sport package. This X2 combines both but feels like so much more. We did not get the latest X1 because it was much more expensive and not as cool. The X2 feels more substantial than the 320 with much better steering feel and much better seats. It is also way more exciting to look at and drive. Two adults easily fit in the back seat with room to spare. The headlights are She parks her car far away from others in shopping parking lots to avoid tight maneuvers when there are many cars and pedestrians present. It is recommended to purchase the PDC (Park Distance Control) option for $800 which provides accurate visual and audible warnings during tight maneuvers. The X2 should also include rear cross-traffic as well as blind spot warnings since the rearward and rear quarter visibility is poor. Despite this, we really like the X2 and were pleasantly surprised when we were able to get such a great lease deal. It feels and looks very special and different. We highly recommend considering the X2, especially if you like the solid and technical feel of the VW GTI. However, it is important to test drive it in tight reverse parking and get the PDC option at a minimum for the safety of the X2 passengers and others behind it. Follow-up 19 months later.... We absolutely love driving this X2. Although it is still disappointing that it is dangerous to drive in reverse and has so many blind spots. We also leased a 2019 X1 and it came with PDC standard. It's great to see that BMW listened. However, the missing blind spot and cross-traffic monitors and alerts are still a concern. You can get the least expensive Nissan Altima with AWD and it will have those features. Now the X1 also does not have them and I was told by BMW it's because of the older architecture of the X1 and X2. The next gen will have those features, for example, the new Series 2 Gran Coupe which is based on the X1 and X2 platform does have all those features. On a positive note, since we have the unique ability to compare our X2 and X1 side-by-side, they are VERY different. Our X2 has the Sport seats and 19We love our BMWs, but we have found that the X1 is more practical for running errands due to its regular seats and larger rear storage. However, we do enjoy the X2's 19 inch wheels, although it does ride more stiffly. When it comes to tight parking or situations where visibility is key, we opt for the X1 with its PDC option and better rear and rear quarter visibility. We have learned that features such as rear camera, PDC, blind spot detection, or rear cross traffic alert are essential for everyday cars, and we hope that BMW will consider making them standard equipment. After all, anti-lock brakes and airbags were once only available in luxury cars, and now they are standard in most vehicles. We appreciate BMW and their commitment to excellence, but we hope to see more practical features in their cars in the future.

I had never driven a BMW before, but last year I needed a car quickly and walked into a BMW dealership. I leased the vehicle without even test driving it once. The first time I drove an X2 was when I got my lease and took it home. Why? It may sound crazy, but the introductory movie about the X2 was shot on an island in my home country, a place that is very well known to me, and I was hooked. I have no regrets about my decision, though I will likely never do anything as impulsive as that again. I trusted my instincts and they were correct, at least this time. I got the cheapest AWD model with minimal extras, and it drives wonderfully. I love it. From the Sports mode when I need it, to the Eco Pro mode that I am in most of the time, it is a pleasure to drive. I drove 6 hours without stopping once and got out of it without feeling stiff. I have only driven it in very significant snow once, and it did quite well, almost as good as my prior Audi quattro A4 (but quattro is unbeatable, in my humble opinion). The fuel mileage is great. I mostly commute in NYC between the Bronx and Brooklyn, and I get 25-27 MPG, depending on how dense the traffic is. I get easily 32 MPG on pure highway driving. It is a very, very enjoyable driving experience. It is a pleasure to just sit in it and move. I remember the Ultimate Driving Machine ads and have to say, this is exactly it, in my opinion. I got 4K off the price for a 3-year lease, which really reduced the total payments by a lot. However, it is a very, very, very (as capital as possible) costly experience to repair anything. This may not be just this vehicle or only BMW, but it does feel a bit more expensive at BMW than, for example, Audi. For instance, just recently something hit my windshield and caused a large crack that needs windshield replacement. The same thing happened twice on my Audi, and the replacements were no more than what Safelite demands for this BMW, about 600-700. However, the BMW dealership gave me an estimate of 1800-2400 when a school bus took down my side mirror, which was quite expensive.An Uber scratched my headlight and it will cost over 2000 to replace it. However, I am hoping to get the scratched glass replaced with an OEM part ordered from Europe for a fraction of that price. Luckily, my vehicle is still under warranty and I haven't had any mechanical problems yet. If the car ever has problems after the warranty expires, repairs could be expensive. Sometimes the shifting feels uneven, but it may be nothing. I had a Land Rover Freelander transmission that reminded me of this feeling many years ago, which completely failed some 20K miles later and was a fortune to replace. I have found 2018 X2s with 12K miles on them (same as my vehicle) that cost 27K after one year of use, while my vehicle at the end of the 3 year lease will have about 30-40K miles on it and is priced in the lease agreement at 24K. So, it would make very little sense to buy it at that price, since it seems to lose so much in value after only a year and 12K miles. Overall, I am very happy with the vehicle and the lease price. I think I got a very good deal.

I recently purchased my X2 M-Sport Edition in the gorgeous eye-catching M-Blue. I wasn't planning on buying a car for myself when I stopped at my local BMW dealership. I was actually car shopping for my son. While waiting in the showroom, I saw the X2 and couldn't resist taking a closer look. As a car enthusiast, I knew I was in trouble as soon as I sat inside. The interior is perfectly laid out, making it easy to keep your eyes on the road while still handling everything else. I loved everything from the two-toned interior to the bright blue exterior. It comfortably seats my family, despite our varying heights. I decided to take a test drive in the fully appointed one with the M-Sport Package and it was a thrill to drive. I'm not a fan of a 'smooth floating car' and this one did not disappoint me. It drove just like I suspected... I could feel the road like a gentle massage... a true BMW. After my son was done, I left the dealership but couldn't stop thinking about the X2 and how it could make my life easier. I went back two more times to price out various options and even took a test drive with my husband. He knew from the layout of the controls to the height adjustable tailgate that I had found the perfect car for my needs. After several rounds of negotiations, we finally saw them take the Blue M-Sport X2 off the showroom floor. Our salesperson worked hard to score me the best deal and we were thrilled with the outcome. This was the third car she has sold us and we couldn't be happier.I must say, this car has exceeded my expectations. It is absolutely stunning, and every detail, from the design to the way it handles on the road, is a delight for any BMW enthusiast. I have received countless compliments on my car, and every time I drive it, I can't help but smile. I am so grateful that this car has come into my life, as it has truly made a huge difference. Not only is it a pleasure to drive, but it has also made my life much easier. Even my service dog loves it! I would also like to mention that BMW offers a Mobility Program that can help cover the cost of modifying the car to suit the needs of disabled individuals (up to $2500). They are willing to make any necessary changes to further accommodate my needs. I feel incredibly lucky to have stumbled upon the X2, and I am grateful every day for the journey that led me to BMW!

We have had a similar experience to the previous post. Unfortunately, our X2 needed new brakes (front and back, rotors and pads), an alignment and new run-flats after only 18,000 miles in just 24 months. This cost us a couple of grand in total. We have been driving for 40 years and this is the first car we have ever had that needed brakes at all, or that needed four new expensive tires at 18,000 miles. Fool me once... We have had to replace our brakes and rotors twice in less than two years and now, after just four months and less than a mile, we are told that we are at 4 front and 6 rear on tires and may have to replace pads and rotors again. We use Palm Springs BMW, who say it's not a defect in material or product but

As an experienced driver of 40 years, I have never encountered a car that required brakes or four new expensive tires at such a low mileage. This is an unacceptable situation that needs to be addressed immediately.

I am disappointed with my recent purchase of a BMW X2. Despite opting for the premium and comfort packages, the car is noisy and the backup camera lacks functionality. In comparison to my 2015 Ford Escape, the BMW falls short. However, I will continue to evaluate the car's performance and features before making a decision on whether to keep it or trade it in.

I drove this car as a rental for a month and unfortunately, I was not satisfied with my experience. Although I am a big fan of BMW and have owned over a dozen, I must say that this SUV did not meet my expectations. The interior of the car was not up to the mark and the materials used were of poor quality. The fit and finish of the car were also not up to the standard. The driving dynamics were subpar and torque steer was frequent. I believe that there are many other small SUVs that provide better quality and utility at a lower price. However, I understand that everyone has different preferences and requirements when it comes to cars. Thank you for considering my opinion.
