The BMW X2 is a line of subcompact luxury crossover SUVs produced by BMW since 2017. It was first showcased as the BMW Concept X2 at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, with a production version unveiled in October 2017. Sales commenced in March 2018. It is considered a sportier and less practical alternative to the X1, as is the case with other even-numbered X models with its respective counterparts, and is now in its second incarnation since 2023.
First generation (F39; 2017)
The X2 (model code F39) is based on the same front-wheel drive UKL2 architecture as the X1 and MINI Countryman, and features the same 2,670 mm (105.1 in) wheelbase length. The X2 is assembled in Regensburg, Germany and is produced alongside the X1. Being a part of BMW X family, the vehicle is also available with xDrive all-wheel drive on higher end models.
Both the sDrive28i and xDrive28i models are available in North American markets.
A plug-in hybrid variant, called the xDrive 25e, was unveiled in January 2020. In September 2020 BMW presented the special variant M Mesh Edition with a sporty look.
Production concluded on 11 October 2022, about 13 months prior to the launch of the next generation.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

- Summary: My battery died. After a AAA jump, the car started fine but the right-rear-taillight-signal malfunctioned. It was working fine prior to the battery dying. I purchased a new battery and the mechanic said my right-rear-taillight was getting an electrical signal and the bulb work, but I needed a completely new taillight component ($300!) because it still was not working. While researching parts, I came across a YouTube 'fix' that showed that within the lightbulb compartment, there was a little piece of plastic that was MELTED preventing a mental piece on the lightbulb casing from touching the metal on the compartment preventing the light from coming on. My mechanic sanded down the melted plastic so the two metal parts could touch, and low and behold, the right-rear-taillight-signal worked just fine. Now I don't know if a battery failure could cause an electrical shock to this little piece of plastic but in the comments on this Youtube "fix", this same scenario happed to someone else with an X2 and their battery died and the right-rear-taillight-signal immediately failed. Is there a connection? What caused that little piece to melt??

- Summary: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2018-2019 BMW X1 sDrive28i, X1 xDrive28i, 2019 X2 xDrive28i, MINI Cooper S Convertible, Countryman, and John Cooper Works Countryman vehicles. The steering gear tie rod may have been assembled incorrectly, which may result in excessive wear of the tie rod end, eventually causing it to break.
- Consequence: A broken steering tie rod would lead to a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace the tie rods and ball joints as necessary, free of charge. The recall began October 11, 2019. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or MINI customer service at 1-866-825-1525.

Originally, I wanted the M2, but unfortunately, the price tag was too steep for my wife. After test driving the X1, X2, and X3, we decided to go with the X2. Since my wife already has a Pilot, we didn't need a big car. I was turning in a leased 428i Gran Couple with all the options, except for navigation. I absolutely loved the dynamic handling pack, especially in sport mode when the steering wheel tightens up and the dampers kick in on the suspension. I got a ticket in San Antonio because I couldn't resist rolling into the corners at 65mph on a 45mph road. My X2 has the xdrive, M Package, and M package X. I was disappointed to find out that dynamic handling was an additional charge on M Package and didn't realize until I saw standard suspension in my options, but sport mode is still better than comfort mode. The car has eye-catching looks and performs well on the road. The suspension can be jarring at times in any mode, and you feel the bumps assertively. I love the connected feature that allows me to turn on various items from my phone, such as flashing headlights, ventilating the car, honking the horn, locking the doors, etc. If the car is within your budget, I highly recommend it.

I am disappointed with my recent purchase of a BMW X2. Despite opting for the premium and comfort packages, the car is noisy and the backup camera lacks functionality. In comparison to my 2015 Ford Escape, the BMW falls short. However, I will continue to evaluate the car's performance and features before making a decision on whether to keep it or trade it in.

I drove this car as a rental for a month and unfortunately, I was not satisfied with my experience. Although I am a big fan of BMW and have owned over a dozen, I must say that this SUV did not meet my expectations. The interior of the car was not up to the mark and the materials used were of poor quality. The fit and finish of the car were also not up to the standard. The driving dynamics were subpar and torque steer was frequent. I believe that there are many other small SUVs that provide better quality and utility at a lower price. However, I understand that everyone has different preferences and requirements when it comes to cars. Thank you for considering my opinion.

I have mixed feelings about the 2018 BMW X2. While it is a BMW, it falls short of what BMWs are known for. The handling was mediocre, but it does have a sport mode that improves it slightly. However, it may not be the best choice for those who enjoy driving, and the blind spots are a concern. On the other hand, the acceleration is fast and smooth, making it a great car for the freeway. The driving position is comfortable, and the bluetooth phone quality is excellent. Although it may not compare to previous BMW models, it still has its positive aspects. It's important to note that my experience may differ from others, and I encourage potential buyers to do their research before making a purchase.

I bought the 2018 BMW X2 Xdrive for a few reasons. Firstly, I needed to have a better trade-in/resale value of the 340i I owned as it was getting up in miles. Secondly, I would be traveling into hilly, snowy areas, where an AWD would suit my needs better. At the dealership, I test drove the X3, X3 M340i and the X2 x drive. I really liked the crossover look of the X2. However, during the test drive, I noticed a slightly rough idling of the car at a stop and was not pleased with the hesitation and slightly mushy breaking. I expressed my concerns to the salesman, but he explained that it was because I was driving a car with less performance. Despite my reservations, I bought the car anyway. Unfortunately, I was wrong. During the car's first checkup, I was given a loaner X2, and it was a totally different ride! The car dealership looked into my X drive X2 and stated that all of the diagnostics were fine. They also confirmed that the loaner was not an AWD. I was surprised to learn that BMW cannot account for the variations necessary in an AWD vs FWD, and correct for good breaking, no hesitation, and this intermittent rough idle. I would not recommend buying this car as the hesitation alone is dangerous, and I have experienced more than one precarious situation due to this car's hesitation factor. That is why I rated one star for reliability. I hope BMW reads this and takes action to improve the quality of their cars.
