The BMW X2 is a line of subcompact luxury crossover SUVs produced by BMW since 2017. It was first showcased as the BMW Concept X2 at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, with a production version unveiled in October 2017. Sales commenced in March 2018. It is considered a sportier and less practical alternative to the X1, as is the case with other even-numbered X models with its respective counterparts, and is now in its second incarnation since 2023.
First generation (F39; 2017)
The X2 (model code F39) is based on the same front-wheel drive UKL2 architecture as the X1 and MINI Countryman, and features the same 2,670 mm (105.1 in) wheelbase length. The X2 is assembled in Regensburg, Germany and is produced alongside the X1. Being a part of BMW X family, the vehicle is also available with xDrive all-wheel drive on higher end models.
Both the sDrive28i and xDrive28i models are available in North American markets.
A plug-in hybrid variant, called the xDrive 25e, was unveiled in January 2020. In September 2020 BMW presented the special variant M Mesh Edition with a sporty look.
Production concluded on 11 October 2022, about 13 months prior to the launch of the next generation.

- Summary: My car started fire by itself. It was parked in front of my house. I drove 90 miles from my work in the same evening. I came home at 7:00pm, and since then my car was untouched. At 1:30am of the night, I heard something "pop" outside and it started making noise like something is on fire. And then I opened the window to find out my car is on fire. It was parked right in front of my house, the fire would move to my house anytime, but my neighbor called the police and fire station for me, and told me to get out of the house ASAP because it might explode. I was so panicked to grab my cats as I try to leave my house, and the police came right away, they started to water the rim of my house. The fire truck arrived in 15min or so, and it took about 30min to put the fire off. Thankfully, as it was right after that we noticed the fire, and the gas tank was almost empty, neither my house, myself, my family, my cats, and my neighbor were unharmed. Hawaii Police Department was there : Report #24-021263. My insurance company (GEICO) came and take a look, and they are taking care of it now. It is confirmed as "total loss". It has been showing the alert to check engine oil for about a week or so, but on the "vehicle status" screen, it was saying nothing was in immediate trouble. I even had made an oil-change appointment at the dealer on Mar 18th. I will upload some photos, but I have some videos of when the fire started also.

- Summary: My battery died. After a AAA jump, the car started fine but the right-rear-taillight-signal malfunctioned. It was working fine prior to the battery dying. I purchased a new battery and the mechanic said my right-rear-taillight was getting an electrical signal and the bulb work, but I needed a completely new taillight component ($300!) because it still was not working. While researching parts, I came across a YouTube 'fix' that showed that within the lightbulb compartment, there was a little piece of plastic that was MELTED preventing a mental piece on the lightbulb casing from touching the metal on the compartment preventing the light from coming on. My mechanic sanded down the melted plastic so the two metal parts could touch, and low and behold, the right-rear-taillight-signal worked just fine. Now I don't know if a battery failure could cause an electrical shock to this little piece of plastic but in the comments on this Youtube "fix", this same scenario happed to someone else with an X2 and their battery died and the right-rear-taillight-signal immediately failed. Is there a connection? What caused that little piece to melt??

- Summary: I have had trouble with both my right and left taillight blinkers failing at various times. In the first instance, I took the car into BMW of Seattle to get a new bulb, but this did not fix the problem. After talking with the parts department, the man informed me that it might be an issue with the bulb socket. We tried replacing this but it still didn't work. The technician ended up scraping corrosion off of the contacts in the taillight assembly, which makes it work for a time, but then work either intermittently or not at all. I was told that the problem is due to metal connecting to plastic parts, which can become corroded and cause the electrical connection to fail. The parts person said that he had heard of this problem with the X2 models. BMW quoted me $1000 to replace each of the taillight units. I'm assuming if I spend $2000 to do both, this will just happen again. Please add this component to a recall list. Note: Both times the taillight warnings went off for each side, it was when the temperature had dropped in Seattle. They were cold days with a lot of moisture in the air. Possibly this problem is due to condensation leading to corrosion of the parts.

As a first-time BMW owner, I was a bit hesitant to switch from my beloved 2012 Honda Pilot. However, I decided to take a chance and traded it in for a 2018 X2. While I've always dreamed of owning a white BMW 3-Series, I wanted something unique that fit my budget. Reliability is important to me since I often travel alone by car. At first, I struggled to adjust to the X2's size, but after 9 months of driving it, I've come to appreciate its pros and cons. On the plus side, it's a blast to drive, gets great gas mileage, has excellent maneuverability, and a smooth ride that makes highway driving a breeze. The only downside is the poor side visibility, which can be challenging for inexperienced drivers. However, I don't mind the lack of blind spot indicators since I've been driving for 35 years without them. Road noise isn't a big issue for me either since I usually listen to music while driving. Overall, I've learned that I prefer larger SUVs, but the X2 is a great introduction to the BMW brand. It's not as common as other models, which makes it feel more special. While I may upgrade to a more popular BMW in the future, for now, I'm enjoying every moment behind the wheel of my X2!

Originally, I wanted the M2, but unfortunately, the price tag was too steep for my wife. After test driving the X1, X2, and X3, we decided to go with the X2. Since my wife already has a Pilot, we didn't need a big car. I was turning in a leased 428i Gran Couple with all the options, except for navigation. I absolutely loved the dynamic handling pack, especially in sport mode when the steering wheel tightens up and the dampers kick in on the suspension. I got a ticket in San Antonio because I couldn't resist rolling into the corners at 65mph on a 45mph road. My X2 has the xdrive, M Package, and M package X. I was disappointed to find out that dynamic handling was an additional charge on M Package and didn't realize until I saw standard suspension in my options, but sport mode is still better than comfort mode. The car has eye-catching looks and performs well on the road. The suspension can be jarring at times in any mode, and you feel the bumps assertively. I love the connected feature that allows me to turn on various items from my phone, such as flashing headlights, ventilating the car, honking the horn, locking the doors, etc. If the car is within your budget, I highly recommend it.

I recently traded in my 2017 X1 with 76K miles for a 2020 X2 in 'Sunset Orange'. It's a sharp looking car with only 12,400 miles on the odometer, and I paid 28.5 K for it. After owning it for over 6 months, I can say that the X2 is a blast to drive with lots of pep. Although the ride is not the smoothest and there is some wind noise, the 'sport' seats are comfortable despite being narrow. As a taller and heavier person at 6' 3

The interior of the car is beautiful, but the brakes are too rigid. Even if you are a light breaker, you will experience neck inertia. Although the cargo area is deep, it is not wide enough and there are a couple of blind spots, which may take some time to check your surroundings. However, the body style is beautiful and the interior is luxurious, with interior color changing lights. The auto start/stop feature has a hard start that startles you and your passengers. I had to take my car in for repair (they called it a computer adjustment) three times in seven months, which was frustrating. Overall, I have had some issues with the car, but I am hopeful that they will be resolved soon.

I am disappointed with my recent purchase of a BMW X2. Despite opting for the premium and comfort packages, the car is noisy and the backup camera lacks functionality. In comparison to my 2015 Ford Escape, the BMW falls short. However, I will continue to evaluate the car's performance and features before making a decision on whether to keep it or trade it in.
