2010 Audi A6 problems

audi logo

The Audi A6 is an executive car made by the German company Audi since 1994. Now in its fifth generation, the successor to the Audi 100 is manufactured in Neckarsulm, Germany, and is available in saloon and estate configurations, the latter marketed by Audi as the Avant. Audi's internal numbering treats the A6 as a continuation of the Audi 100 lineage, with the initial A6 designated as a member of the C4-series, followed by the C5, C6, C7, and the C8. The related Audi A7 is essentially a Sportback (liftback) version of the C7-series and C8-series A6 but is marketed under its own separate identity and model designation.

All generations of the A6 have offered either front-wheel-drive or Torsen-based four-wheel-drive, marketed by Audi as their quattro system. The A6 has also been used as the basis for the company's Allroad models since 1999.

Both petrol and diesel versions of the A6 are offered. The wide range of engines available have power outputs ranging from 150 to 333 PS (110 to 245 kW). These are inline four-cylinder turbocharged engines and more powerful 3-litre units in a V6 configuration with a mechanical compressor.

Common 2010 Audi A6 problems

The Audi A6 2010 is a luxury sports sedan that has been praised for its quality infotainment and excellent performance.

  • Turbo Problems: The Audi A6 is also known for turbo problems, where the turbo can blow, causing blue smoke from the exhaust and a whistling noise from the top of the engine. To fix this issue, a replacement turbo needs to be fitted.
  • Excessive Vibration: Another common problem with the 2010 Audi A6 is excessive vibration from the engine when it is revved in neutral. This is usually caused by a problem with the dual mass flywheel, which is a very expensive repair. The best option is to have a professional look at it and consider purchasing a quality second-hand flywheel.
  • Water Leaking into Passenger Footwell: If there is water leaking into the passenger footwell, this is usually caused by a blockage in the drainage holes below the windscreen or in the plenum chamber. Leaves and debris get blocked up in the drainage holes, resulting in water leaking into the passengers' footwell. To fix this issue, the drainage holes need to be checked and unblocked to stop the water leaking into the passenger footwell.
  • Display Panel Failure: The display panel in the 2010 Audi A6 is known to fail, causing lines to appear on the screen or the panel to go down and come back up uncontrollably. To fix this issue, the whole unit needs to be replaced, which can be expensive. Sometimes, this issue can only be fixed at a main dealer, where the unit needs to be programmed.

In conclusion, while the 2010 Audi A6 is a luxury sports sedan with many features, it is not without its common problems and issues. Excessive oil consumption, automatic gearbox issues, turbo problems, excessive vibration, water leaking into the passenger footwell, and display panel failure are some of the most frequently reported problems with this vehicle. If you are considering purchasing a 2010 Audi A6, it is essential to be aware of these common problems and issues to make an informed decision.

  • Remedy: Audi has notified owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag with an alternate remedy part, free of charge. The recall began June 29, 2018. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 69R7. Note: This recall supersedes recalls 16V382, 17V032 and 18V004 and includes vehicles that may have had their air bag previously replaced under one of those campaigns.

Negative 2010 Audi A6 car reviews

  1. Nelson Runolfsson 2024-10-27

The car has some great features, but unfortunately, there may be some issues with the front brake rotors. I was hoping that Audi would have corrected this problem, but after experiencing similar issues with my 2005 allroad, I decided to switch to a Mercedes 300 series. Interestingly, after 52,000 miles, I traded in my Mercedes with the original brakes still intact. However, my A-6 2010 has again developed warped rotors after only 17,800 miles, with the pads only about 40% worn or less. This was the same problem I experienced with my allroad. Unfortunately, it cost me $600, even after a 15% dealer discount - a true joke. I usually use the engine during downhills and am careful not to overheat the brakes. I think that it may be the slush or cold rain that cold shocks the rotors. When Audi covered these under warranty, I did not mind, but they stopped doing so in 2005, probably due to the frequency of the issue - so it's a bit frustrating.

  2. Alfred Yundt 2024-01-27

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know that I noticed a few minor scratches and door dings on the car. Additionally, I found that there were two small leaks - one for oil and one for coolant. When I asked the dealer about the coolant leak fix, they weren't able to produce a receipt. They also didn't know about the oil leak. Just wanted to give you a heads up!

Positive 2010 Audi A6 car reviews

  1. Johnpaul Green 2024-11-27

Congratulations on your first Audi! It sounds like you made a great choice. The handling is impressive, even in snowy conditions, which must make you feel safe and secure. It's great to hear that you're enjoying the acceleration and sound system, and the LED lights are a standout feature. The MMI and Bluetooth are also fantastic additions. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us!

  2. Stone Hickle 2024-11-20

I was a BMW person for 20 years, but recently tried Infiniti. However, I always had a soft spot for Audi designs. After making a comparison, I decided to lease an Audi A6 Premium Plus (3.0T) from Audi of Alexandria. I had to drive 500 miles the day after getting the car and found that the car just gets better and better at highway speeds. Much of the trip was through 70 mph zones, and I never exceeded the speed limit, of course! These cars are made for highway driving, but around town, they have a great balance of weight, power, handling, and ride. Curb appeal is also very high as these are great looking cars! It's one of those cars you can admire from every angle with both a classic look and modern design.

  3. Cleve Effertz 2024-11-19

Hey there! I'm so glad to hear that you've had a great experience with your new car! It sounds like the 2009 model is a significant improvement over the 2008, especially when it comes to handling winter roads. The MMI integration with your iPhone sounds like a really cool feature, and I'm sure it makes driving even more enjoyable. And of course, the Quattro AWD is always impressive! Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.

  4. Nasir Langosh 2024-10-20

After years of disappointing service from Mercedes, I made the switch to Audi and I couldn't be happier. The quality is superior, the engine is supercharged and really takes off, and the large sedan handles like a small sports car. I've owned two Mercedes, a Porsche, and a Lexus, and this is by far the best. I'm excited to take on Seattle's rain and snow in my new Audi!

  5. Felton Dach 2024-10-10

I have owned my 2009 A6 for less than a year and unfortunately, it has required 5 service calls to date due to issues with the headlights and engine, despite having only 6500 miles. It is disappointing that such a great looking automobile has proven to be unreliable.
