2013 Audi A6 problems
The Audi A6 is an executive car made by the German company Audi since 1994. Now in its fifth generation, the successor to the Audi 100 is manufactured in Neckarsulm, Germany, and is available in saloon and estate configurations, the latter marketed by Audi as the Avant. Audi's internal numbering treats the A6 as a continuation of the Audi 100 lineage, with the initial A6 designated as a member of the C4-series, followed by the C5, C6, C7, and the C8. The related Audi A7 is essentially a Sportback (liftback) version of the C7-series and C8-series A6 but is marketed under its own separate identity and model designation.
All generations of the A6 have offered either front-wheel-drive or Torsen-based four-wheel-drive, marketed by Audi as their quattro system. The A6 has also been used as the basis for the company's Allroad models since 1999.
Both petrol and diesel versions of the A6 are offered. The wide range of engines available have power outputs ranging from 150 to 333 PS (110 to 245 kW). These are inline four-cylinder turbocharged engines and more powerful 3-litre units in a V6 configuration with a mechanical compressor.

Common 2013 Audi A6 problems
The Audi A6, a popular executive car, is known for its comfort and ride quality. However, as with any vehicle, there are common problems that have been reported by owners of the 2013 Audi A6.
Gearbox Problems: One of the most common issues reported is with the gearbox, specifically the CVT, automatic, or multitronic gearbox. Owners have reported hesitation or clunkiness when driving around town, which is often caused by a software problem in the rapid gear shifting of the vehicle. This issue may require a gearbox reprogramming at an Audi specialist or, in some cases, a full replacement, particularly in high mileage cars.
Excessive Oil Usage: The Audi A6 is known to be thirsty when it comes to oil. It is crucial to regularly check the oil level using the dipstick, ensuring that it is well above the halfway mark to ensure the engine is well lubricated. Failure to do so could lead to engine damage.
Dual Mass Flywheel Vibration: Another issue reported by owners is an excessive vibration coming from the engine when increasing the throttle in neutral. This could be a sign of a problem originating in the dual mass flywheel, which is an expensive part to replace.
Air Con Smells: Around 25% of all Audi A6s on the road suffer from some kind of issues with the air conditioning on the car. This can manifest in a couple of different ways, such as a very cold icy blast coming from the air outlets or as a musty or damp smell. It is recommended to test this system fully before committing to buy a second hand vehicle.
Faulty Electrics: Electrics are also a known problem in the Audi A6, with particular issues occurring with the regulators in the electric window units. It is essential to check all the in-car systems to ensure that there are no wiring issues in the vehicle, from the internal passenger lighting through to the stereo.
Rear Wheel Arch Rubbing: If you are considering purchasing an S-line Audi A6, it is crucial to check the car under load. It is possible that the tyres will chafe against the wheel arches when the car is stocked up with luggage and passengers, which could cause damage to the rather expensive tyres.
Timing Chain Tensioner Failures: Audi A6s that feature V6 and V8 engines use a complex system of chains to keep the 4 valves per cylinder in time. These chains have plastic guides linking to the hydraulic pistons, which have been known to fail, causing misfiring and stalling in the engine. If not caught early enough, this problem could lead to the need for a complete new engine.
Potential Airbag Failure: There have been a very small number of early A6s recalled due to a curtain airbag failure, where the airbags on the sides of the car fail to inflate properly due to a gas leak in the vehicle.
Parking Brake Leaks: Audi A6s built between 2012 and August 2014 may be leaking oil into the brake system that could cause problems when parking the vehicle. It is essential to ensure that you are achieving the correct stopping distances when driving.
Airbags and Seatbelt Tensioner: Faulty airbags and seatbelt tensioners might have been fitted to some examples built between 1 May 2016 and 30 October 2016, and may not work correctly in a collision.
Auxiliary Heater Element: An auxiliary heater element used in the air conditioning system of A6s made between 8 July 2014 and 31 October 2014, could fail.
Towing Bracket: If your A6 is fitted with a hinged tow bar and was built between 2 December 2015 and 17 December 2018, the locking mechanism could be faulty.
Panoramic Glass Sunroof: A small number of cars that were constructed between 16 July 2018 and 10 October 2018 and were fitted with a panoramic glass roof could have an issue with the bonding agent used to keep the glass panels in place.
Fuel Leak: There have been two recalls issued for the A6 that concern fuel leaks. The first is for cars made from 1 April 2011 to 30 April 2012, the second is for A6s made between 18 February 2014 and 2 September 2016.
Coolant Pump: Particles in the engine coolant could end up blocking the pump and lead to it overheating. This applies to vehicles made between 1 May 2011 and 31 October 2016.
Reduction in Braking Performance: On A6s made from 1 January 2012 to 27 August 2014, an issue with the diaphragm in the brake servo rupturing could result in a reduction in braking performance.
In the most recent reliability survey, the A6 came last in the luxury car category, while Audi as a brand finished in 22nd place out of 31 manufacturers. This is a disappointing result, indicating that the 2013 Audi A6 may have more reliability issues than other cars in its class.

Audi replaced the recall part two times. the first didnt work after the second time it works but now they cant reset the check engine lights, TPMS, Steering Fault do not drive it says, ECS Fualt, Stability Fault, Child Safety Lock Fault etc. Dealer told they did everything they could even flew in an Audi Engineer still cant reset anything and that they exceeded the cars value in man hours to figure out what is the issue. Now they tell me the car is drivable but my question is, is it safe for me to accept it like that and risk something happening while driving and the steering locking up or any other problems that may arise but I wouldn"t know because of the other alarms may override the current alarm that may pop up. My insurance said they wouldnt accept the car back in that condition because its a recall issue related and that Audi needs to address this but in just getting the run around. My car has been at the dealer for about 6 months trying to figure it out. Now they tell me "You brought your car because steering was locked up wasnt able to drive and now the car is drivable and the only thing we cant clear are the alarms that i mentioned above but it is drivable its just like an oil change alarm that you do the oil change but we just cant reset it so its kinda the same thing" they told me that and i was like okay. No is not the same i said, my question is is this even safe to accept and risk something happen and get into an accident because of the steering lock up. Now they wont even take my wife audi because has the same recall that needs to be replaced. the only way they replace it is till it happens. So they waiting for my wifes car to lock up while driving and not have control of car and crash especially if my kids are with her because she takes them to school. What do i do please help? I WAS QUOTED $1,389.81 TO REPLACE/REPAIR, BUT ASKED IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS 'AIRBAG' RELATED ISSUE, SINCE IT HAS BEEN WELL PUBLICIZED ON THESE AUDI MODELS. UPON LOOKING UP MY VIN# IN THE RECALL DATABASE, WE DISCOVERED THE VIN# FOR THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT LISTED AS AN IMPACTED VEHICLE. HOWEVER, IT IS A 100% MATCH TO SAFTEY RECALL CODES: 74D5 OR 74D1 (SEE BELOW). I FILED A RECALL CASE WITH AUDI MANUFACTURING ON 4/21/2020, BUT THEY RESPONDED BACK ON 4/24/2020 THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO IF THE VIN# IS NOT ON THE LIST. THUS FILING MY COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. RECALL CODE: 74D5 SUBJECT: PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM (PODS) AFFECTED VEHICLES: 2013 A6 DESCRIPTION: THE PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM (PODS) CAN MALFUNCTION DUE TO STRESS/WEAR FACTORS AFFECTING AN INTERNAL CONNECTOR OR CONTACT RESISTANCE INCREASE AT BODY-SENSING MAT IN THE SEAT. ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-02-14
- VIN: WAUDFAFC3DN
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: IN LATE DECEMBER 2017 OUT OF NOWHERE, MY CAR BEGAN TO DISPLAY THE WARNING, 'TURN OFF ENGINE AND CHECK COOLANT LEVEL' (PHOTO ATTACHED) ; THIS WAS VERY ALARMING AS I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF MY CAR AND HAVE HAD ALL OF THE REQUIRED MAINTENANCE DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED AND HAD AN APPOINTMENT SCHEDULED AT THE DEALER. JUST A FEW DAYS LATER ON JANUARY 5, 2018 I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE WATER/COOLANT PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED (ATTACHED). UNFORTUNATELY, I FELT THAT THE COST WAS TOO MUCH AT THE DEALER AND I TOOK MY CAR TO A REPUTABLE MECHANIC IN THE AREA WHO REPLACED THE WATER/COOLANT PUMP. TO MY SURPRISE IN SEPTEMBER 2018, AUDI ANNOUNCED A RECALL FOR THE WATER/COOLANT PUMP. TO MY UNDERSTANDING, THIS MEANS THAT THEY ARE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGED PUMP. WITH THAT BEING SAID, I WOULD ASSUME THAT ANY ISSUES RELATED TO THE PUMP SHOULD ALSO BE COVERED UNDER THAT RECALL. AS NOTED ON MY SERVICE MEMO FROM THE AUDI DEALERSHIP WHEN I HAD MY CAR INSPECTED FOR THE WARNING 'IF NOT REPLACED, THE ENGINE'S COOLING SYSTEM WILL NOT BE OPERATING EFFICIENTLY AND AT THE PROPER TEMPERATURE RESULTING IN CATASTROPHIC ENGINE DAMAGE.' IN FEBRUARY 2018, A LITTLE OVER A MONTH AFTER HAVING MY CAR'S WATER/COOLANT PUMP REPAIRED, THE CAR STARTED TO IDLE WHEN I TRIED TO PULL OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY. NOT EVEN A BLOCK AWAY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHED ON AND OFF AND THE CAR CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AND STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. I WAS SO SCARED, BUT RELIEVED THAT I WAS NOT HIT BY ANOTHER CAR. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND WAS ABLE TO GET IT BACK TO MY HOME WHERE I IMMEDIATELY HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. I DIDN'T HAVE HIM DO THE REPAIRS, BUT I THEN HAD IT TOWED TO THE AUDI DEALER WHO TOLD ME THE SAME THING, TO REPLACE THE ENGINE.

- VIN: WAUDFAFC9DN
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
- Summary: RECALL 74D5 (PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM) THAT HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR MY CAR. IVE HAD MY CAR APPRAISED AT MY LOCAL AUDI DEALERSHIP AND AT TWO PROMINENT USED CAR DEALERSHIPS, WERE MUCH LOWER ($3,000-$6,000) THAN THE VALUE OF THE CAR ACCORDING TO KBB.THE REPRESENTATIVE AT THE AUDI DEALERSHIP MENTIONED THAT THEY ARE UNABLE TO SELL THIS PARTICULAR MAKE AND MODEL OF VEHICLE BECAUSE IT HAS A RECALL FOR WHICH A REPAIR IS NOT YET AVAILABLE. THUS, THE DEALERSHIP MUST SEND THE CAR DIRECTLY TO AUCTION RATHER THAN PREPARING IT FOR RESALE. I DONT THINK IT'S FAIR THAT I'MLOSING MONEY ON MY VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE CAR MANUFACTURER AND BECAUSE OF DEFECTS IN THEIR DESIGN. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. THE RECALL NOTICE CLEARLY STATES THAT THE PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM MAY MALFUNCTION, AND IF THIS OCCURS, 'DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO USE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT'IN THIS SITUATION, A FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANT RISKS INJURY IN A CRASH BECAUSE A MALFUNCTIONING PODS SYSTEM MAY NOT MAKE THE CORRECT AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT DECISION FOR THE TYPE OF OCCUPANT SEATED THERE.' I FEEL FEARFUL ABOUT USING THE CAR, ESPECIALLY SINCE THERE IS NO REPAIR AVAILABLE. IT IS AN INCONVENIENCE TO NOT BE ABLE TO USE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WITHOUT FEAR THAT THERE MAY BE A MALFUNCTION. Congratulations on your new purchase! It sounds like you had quite the journey to get it, but it was worth it. Your Audi A6 sounds like an amazing car and it's great to hear that it's the best car you've ever owned. Your experience with the A6 seems to have been love at first drive! It's also exciting to hear that you'll be customizing it with a two-tone matte black and matte dark grey wrap, as well as a black suede headliner and pillars. Your car will definitely stand out on the road. Enjoy your new ride!

I can see that you really like this car! It's great to hear that you have owned several Audis, Porsches, and even a E55. However, I understand that you have some concerns about the seats. It seems like BMW has the best seats in your opinion. Additionally, the cup holders are a bit small and the center armrest can be a bit of an interference. Have you considered switching the cup and freeform spaces front and back of the shifter? On the other hand, the engine is fantastic and provides plenty of power when requested. I'm glad to hear that you are pleased with the MPG, especially when doing mostly suburban driving. The highway MPG is also impressive. It's a shame that the 20

Aviator blue with brown interior. I'm so glad to hear that you love the way it handles and that it gets lots of looks. It's great to know that it looks nicer than a BMW 5 series and Benz E class. It sounds like it's very quick off the line and top end. In my opinion, the four rings have outdone Lexus, BMW and Mercedes. It's wonderful to hear that you've had this for a few years now and that you're considering upgrading to an S6.

I've owned four Audis so far, including my latest purchase - a used 2012 A6 Prestige supercharged model. My first Audi was back in '88, and since then I've owned models from '91, '01, and now 2012. I've found that taking good care of your Audi is key to ensuring it takes care of you in return. Living in New England, it's especially important to have Quattro for those crazy winters. Whenever I feel like it's time to upgrade to a newer car, I do test drive other brands like BMW and Mercedes, but I always come back to Audi for its unbeatable handling. While I can't afford a brand new 60k Audi, buying a pre-certified used one is still a great option. I've also considered purchasing a brand new car in the 25-30k range, but the problem is that they don't hold their value like an Audi does in the long run. That's just my opinion though.

Having owned an '07, '09 and '11 A6s, I figured that there couldn't be much change for 2012. However, I was pleasantly surprised! This car surpasses any of its competition. I purchased the Prestige with Driver Assist and Cold Weather Package, and I am extremely satisfied with my decision. To me, this car feels like a smaller version of the A8, which I absolutely love. The new 2012 model is truly impressive!

My 2012 A6 3.0 was running perfectly until two weeks ago (October 2022). Unfortunately, I turned her on to find massive shaking and vibrations throughout the car, as well as a check engine light. Despite there being no warning signs up to this point, after multiple mechanics looked into it (including the Audi dealership), it turns out that I lost cylinder #4 and she's misfiring badly. Both intake manifolds have so much carbon build-up that the rail flaps will not open at the 4000 rpm threshold. As a result, my supercharged car no longer drives like an Audi - it now drives like a 4 cylinder Kia. After some basic fixes, she is driveable, but she's on her deathbed. Unfortunately, the value of the car is not worth the true fix required. After spending $3k, the estimate for the manifolds is another $6k. This is my second A6 and this surprise problem has put a hole in my heart. I'm considering switching brands :( I had fun while it lasted.
