The Acura RDX is a compact luxury crossover SUV produced by Acura, a luxury vehicle division of Honda, as the second crossover SUV offering from the brand after the mid-size MDX. Since it was introduced, it shared its platform with the Honda Civic and CR-V.
First generation (TB1/2; 2007)
Originally previewed as the Acura RD-X concept car, the production RDX had its debut at the 2006 New York Auto Show and went on sale on August 11, 2006. A facelifted 2010 model went on sale in August 2009, which featured the addition Acura's "power plenum" grille and a front-wheel drive option.
Engine
The first-generation RDX is powered by a 2.3-litre straight-4 turbocharged gasoline engine, rated at 240 bhp (179 kW; 243 PS) at 6,000 rpm with a torque peak of 260 ft⋅lbf (350 N⋅m) at 4,500 rpm. At the time, this was uncommon among Honda vehicles.
The K23A1 engine has all-aluminum construction, an i-VTEC head, and dual balance shafts. It was also one of the only four-cylinder powered luxury SUVs of its generation. Honda's variable flow turbocharger reduces turbo lag by using a valve to narrow the exhaust passage at low rpm, increasing the velocity of the exhaust flow and keeping the turbine spinning rapidly. At higher rpm, the valve opens to allow more exhaust flow for increased boost. The engine also features a top-mounted intercooler which receives air from the grille, channeled by ducting under the hood.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimated fuel mileage is 19 mpg‑US (12 L/100 km; 23 mpg‑imp) city and 23 mpg‑US (10 L/100 km; 28 mpg‑imp) highway miles per gallon. An updated EPA mileage estimate in February 2007 rated the RDX at 17 mpg‑US (14 L/100 km; 20 mpg‑imp) city and 22 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg‑imp) highway.

- Summary: Vehicle has lost power and gone in to ‘limp mode’ numerous times when accelerating, reducing speed to 25-30 MPH. The engine runs extremely rough during this time and will not rev up. This has caused traffic behind me to slow down immediately to the point I’ve come close to being hit from behind. It has also lost power without warning several times when driving at approximately 45 MPH, reducing speed to 30 MPH instantly, after which the engine check light illuminates, causing traffic behind me to slow down until I have a place to pull off the side of the road. The first incident was 10/20/2022 at 1,828 miles. I brought the vehicle to an Acura dealership to have it checked out and the service department couldn’t find the problem. The last time I had it in for service was 10/04/2023 at 8,379 miles, and again, the service department couldn’t identify the issue and told me to set up an appointment for overnight so they could try and replicate the problem. In all instances, when the vehicle is turned off and restarted, the check engine light goes out and it runs fine.

My car was parked at work, which is a secure compound that is monitored 24/7 by security guards and cameras. I filed an incident report with security and they reviewed camera footage and didn't find any suspicious activity. I later discovered the incident is a known issue with a 2019-2022 Acura RDX (see Acura's Service Bulletin 22-014 version 2). The security guards took photos of the damage and I eventually replaced the rear windshield the next morning due to safety concerns and heavy rain. A rear windshield shattering on its own is dangerous to be around because of the flying glass fragments, especially if it happens while driving. It also impairs visibility to the rear of the vehicle. The rear windshield didn't have any cracks or anything. I've only had my car for a few months so there's no wear and tear.

- Summary: I own the Acura RDX 2022 and from the very first week the front left brakes were making a rough contact noise when braking. I took to two different dealership and they said the grooves should wear and it may take sometime. I am at 3000 miles and still the same noise. Other brakes function properly. Also, now the weather dropping to 20 F the same front brakes makes a loud grinding / gurgling noise and goes away after warmed up. No TSB, no recalls and no solution. Dealer will not change the brake pads / rotor to see if that fixes the issue.

Acura, derived from the Latin word Acu, defines precision and mechanical accuracy. My wife and I recently purchased a 2021 RDX SUV SH-AWD with Technology Package. Before making our decision, we evaluated several other models including the Nissan Rogue Platinum, Nissan Murano, Volvo XC40, and Honda CRV. We ultimately chose the RDX due to its personal preferences of visual and functional style in the cabin, standard package offerings, seating comfort, ease of entry and exiting of both front and back seating, and safety ratings. We are still learning and adapting to the technology provided in the vehicle, but we are committed to learning all the many features provided.

You've made a great purchase! The cabin is well-built and luxurious, and the car is fun to drive. While the instrumentation may take a bit of time to get used to, it's definitely worth it in the end.

I recently purchased my 4th Acura, a 2021 RDX aspec sh-AWD. My first Acura was a 2004 TL, which was the best sedan at that time. I then owned a 2006 first-gen RDX, followed by a 2012 TSX special edition with a 2.4 engine (non-turbo). It was a fun and reliable car, but unfortunately, they don't make it anymore. As SUVs are becoming more popular, I decided to go for the RDX as it's easy to get in and out of due to its height. Even though I'm getting older, I still want to enjoy sporty driving. I did some research on the internet and found that the RDX 2.0 turbo 10-speed transmission has an awesome engine and sh-AWD, which is the best AWD. It also has good resale value, making it a great value for money. It's an upscale Honda that everybody wants!

I recently purchased a 2021 RDX tech package in September. At first, I noticed that the weather stripping on the tailgate was coming off, but it turned out to be just some extra foam that had come loose. The dealership was very helpful and took care of it for me. However, after about a month, the infotainment system suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason. After a few attempts to restart the car, it started working again.

The 2022 Acura RDX is a significant improvement over the previous one. It gets better gas mileage, runs on mid-grade gas, and the electronics are somewhat easier to learn. Additionally, it is nice looking. UPDATE: It is a very nice car, but the technology, such as the navigation system, radio, and cell phone connections, can be difficult to use.

I've read some other reviews mentioning rattles in the dash, and unfortunately, it seems like my experience is not an outlier. It's quite frustrating, and the dealer hasn't been much help. I've never had a car with rattles in the interior in the past 20 years. The fuel economy is also below my expectations. While I do like the way it rides, the touchpad control for the radio is slow to respond and requires too many inputs. On the bright side, the power is good, and the ride is a little firm, which I prefer. However, the engine noise is a little loud, but still acceptable. The auto headlight system can be prone to flashing high beams when following cars and doesn't switch to low beam quickly enough for oncoming traffic. I've opted to use manual high beams instead. The most annoying thing is that although the info screen is a nice size, the font size of the text is too small for me to read without my reading glasses. I can't read the outside temperature, miles, or the names of songs and artists on the radio. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it.

I really like the look of this car, but I think there is room for improvement. I was a bit disappointed with the gas mileage, as it was advertised to get 28MPG but I have yet to surpass 22MPG, even when driving at the speed limit. The stereo could also use some improvement, as the sound seems to be coming only from the front speakers. Additionally, the interior lighting could be a bit brighter. While I understand that the start/stop feature is meant to save fuel, it takes some getting used to. Lastly, I was not thrilled that the Tech package requires additional fees to use all of the features.

I purchased a brand new 2021 RDX A-spec in blue color and initially loved it. However, within a week of driving it, the brake system failed and disabled the road assistance features. I am disappointed with the quality of the car and regret trading in my Subaru forest for it. Although I had confidence in Acura in the past, my faith is now wavering.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my RDX that I bought about a month ago. Unfortunately, I've been hearing a rattle sound by the dash area when going over bumps. I took it to the dealer and they replaced some clips, but the noise is still significant. As someone who has owned several Acura products over the years, I'm a bit concerned about the reliability of this one. I'm not sure if I would consider another Acura product. Thanks for listening!

Firstly, it's important to note that Apple CarPlay is not a substitute for navigation. Additionally, I have experienced some issues with my brakes, which have required replacement twice before reaching 5,000 miles. There also seems to be a problem with the fuel/transmission, as an indicator light will occasionally come on and my car will not shift gears as it should. However, I have found that turning the car off and on again resolves the issue. Unfortunately, the backup camera is not very useful in rainy conditions, as visibility is poor. Furthermore, the panoramic roof tends to make creaking noises when going over bumps or entering driveways. While the air conditioning could be improved, I have found it to be adequate. Lastly, I have had some trouble with the trunk open button on the driver's door, as it only works when the vehicle is on and the doors are closed. Despite these issues, I believe that Acura could do more to address them. As someone who has worked in the automotive industry for 17 years, I have never experienced such poor customer service from a manufacturer. However, I would still recommend considering a Lexus instead. Thank you for your time.
