The Acura RDX is a compact luxury crossover SUV produced by Acura, a luxury vehicle division of Honda, as the second crossover SUV offering from the brand after the mid-size MDX. Since it was introduced, it shared its platform with the Honda Civic and CR-V.
First generation (TB1/2; 2007)
Originally previewed as the Acura RD-X concept car, the production RDX had its debut at the 2006 New York Auto Show and went on sale on August 11, 2006. A facelifted 2010 model went on sale in August 2009, which featured the addition Acura's "power plenum" grille and a front-wheel drive option.
Engine
The first-generation RDX is powered by a 2.3-litre straight-4 turbocharged gasoline engine, rated at 240 bhp (179 kW; 243 PS) at 6,000 rpm with a torque peak of 260 ft⋅lbf (350 N⋅m) at 4,500 rpm. At the time, this was uncommon among Honda vehicles.
The K23A1 engine has all-aluminum construction, an i-VTEC head, and dual balance shafts. It was also one of the only four-cylinder powered luxury SUVs of its generation. Honda's variable flow turbocharger reduces turbo lag by using a valve to narrow the exhaust passage at low rpm, increasing the velocity of the exhaust flow and keeping the turbine spinning rapidly. At higher rpm, the valve opens to allow more exhaust flow for increased boost. The engine also features a top-mounted intercooler which receives air from the grille, channeled by ducting under the hood.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimated fuel mileage is 19 mpg‑US (12 L/100 km; 23 mpg‑imp) city and 23 mpg‑US (10 L/100 km; 28 mpg‑imp) highway miles per gallon. An updated EPA mileage estimate in February 2007 rated the RDX at 17 mpg‑US (14 L/100 km; 20 mpg‑imp) city and 22 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg‑imp) highway.

THE IMPACT FROM THIS ACCIDENT BROKE BOTH THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATBACKS AND HEADRESTS, WHERE THEY WERE ALMOST TOUCHING THE BACK SEATS AND WE WERE LAYING DOWN LOOKING AT THE ROOF OF THE CAR WHEN THE CAR CAME TO COMPLETE STOP. I DON'T THINK THIS SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED AND SEATBACKS SHOULD BE ABLE TO SUSTAINED THE IMPACT AND SUPPORT OUR BODIES IN AN ACCIDENT. THE BROKEN SEATBACKS WOULD HAVE PINNED, SEVERELY CRUSHED AND INJURED BACK SEATS PASSENGERS. I'M CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR A REPLACEMENT CAR, AND HAVE A HIGH SAFETY CONCERN ON THE SEATS STRUCTURE WITH ANY ACURA MODEL. The affected vehicles received a replacement driver air bag inflator as part of a previous Takata inflator recall remedy or a replacement driver air bag module containing the same inflator type as a service part. Due to a manufacturing error, in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver frontal air bag, these inflators may explode.
- Consequence: An explosion of an inflator within the driver frontal air bag module may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver, front seat passenger or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's air bag inflator with an alternate inflator, free of charge. The recall began April 10, 2019. The 2007 Turbo RDX SWX is definitely a great vehicle! It's even better than my previous cars from Audi, Mercedes, and Lexus. If you have the chance to buy it, go for it! The premium sound is amazing and it handles like a sports car while driving like a smooth limo. If you can find one in good, well-maintained shape, don't hesitate to buy it!

The gas mileage on this car is not meeting our expectations. According to the EPA, it should be 19/23, but we have been getting an average of 12.8 MPG, with no tank higher than 13 MPG. When I took the car to the dealer, they acknowledged that the gas mileage on the RDX could be better. Although the car is great otherwise, it only takes premium gasoline, which has doubled our gas costs compared to our previous V6 Honda Accord. I am disappointed that Acura released a car with such poor gas mileage, and unfortunately, we cannot do anything about it now. We estimate that our additional annual gas costs will be around $2500, which is a significant increase.

Although it is still too early to make a definitive judgement, my initial tank of gas yielded only 13.5MPG, despite driving the SUV gently. While this may be due to the engine needing to break in, I have noticed a similar trend with my previous Acura (MDX) and its poor gas mileage. However, I must say that this vehicle is incredibly comfortable and handles very well, especially for an SUV. The exterior design could be improved, but it is still quite nice. I purchased it for just over sticker price ($150), which is a good deal so far. While the brakes may seem a bit weak, they may just need to be broken in, and although the initial take off torque is lacking, once the turbo spools up, it packs a good punch.

The car is great! It drives like a sports car, but it's also a safe and small SUV. I highly recommend it!

In the first 3 months, we had a number of issues with this brand new car, including electronic malfunctions, sunroof malfunction, rear hatch cracking, turbo replacement, warning light indicator malfunction, and 'flooding issues' causing engine noise. Unfortunately, this has been our worst experience with a car purchase. We were disappointed with the service we received from Acura, and their response was not satisfactory. Based on our experience, we would not recommend this car as it has proven to be noisy, rough, and unreliable.

I purchased the 07 RDX right after its debut, as I have a great image of Honda and had previously owned an Acura RSX type S which I really liked. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase, however, I have noticed some issues with the car's build quality. I have identified several rattles coming from the dashboard, passenger seat, and tweeters, which I find quite frustrating. Additionally, I believe that a car at this price point should come standard with a passenger power seat, memory seat for the driver, and auto-dimming back and side mirrors, which the RDX is currently missing. Overall, I am confident in my assessment of the car and believe that these issues should be addressed in future models.

Hi there! If you're considering buying this car, I would highly recommend taking the local roads instead of just hopping onto the closest freeway with no radio on. I noticed that the steering wheel shakes/vibrates a bit when waiting at red lights, which can be a bit annoying. However, the seats in both the front and back are super comfortable and the visibility is great! The design is also excellent. While the turbo can be a bit loud during acceleration and the gas mileage could be improved, overall the ride is very comfortable, especially when compared to a sport X3.

I've owned 5 Honda and Acura products before, and I was really hoping for a better experience with this one. However, I have noticed a few things that have left me feeling disappointed. The 4-cylinder engine feels a bit sluggish from a standstill, but it does pick up speed reasonably quickly after the initial lag. I have also noticed that the engine can be quite noisy during acceleration, with a lot of turbo whine, which can be a bit tiring after a while. Additionally, I was surprised by the fuel economy, which is only 16 mpg overall (mix of hwy/city). This is the same as my other vehicle, a V8 powered Lexus GX470! I was expecting better from a 4-cylinder small SUV.
