The Acura RDX is a compact luxury crossover SUV produced by Acura, a luxury vehicle division of Honda, as the second crossover SUV offering from the brand after the mid-size MDX. Since it was introduced, it shared its platform with the Honda Civic and CR-V.
First generation (TB1/2; 2007)
Originally previewed as the Acura RD-X concept car, the production RDX had its debut at the 2006 New York Auto Show and went on sale on August 11, 2006. A facelifted 2010 model went on sale in August 2009, which featured the addition Acura's "power plenum" grille and a front-wheel drive option.
Engine
The first-generation RDX is powered by a 2.3-litre straight-4 turbocharged gasoline engine, rated at 240 bhp (179 kW; 243 PS) at 6,000 rpm with a torque peak of 260 ft⋅lbf (350 N⋅m) at 4,500 rpm. At the time, this was uncommon among Honda vehicles.
The K23A1 engine has all-aluminum construction, an i-VTEC head, and dual balance shafts. It was also one of the only four-cylinder powered luxury SUVs of its generation. Honda's variable flow turbocharger reduces turbo lag by using a valve to narrow the exhaust passage at low rpm, increasing the velocity of the exhaust flow and keeping the turbine spinning rapidly. At higher rpm, the valve opens to allow more exhaust flow for increased boost. The engine also features a top-mounted intercooler which receives air from the grille, channeled by ducting under the hood.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimated fuel mileage is 19 mpg‑US (12 L/100 km; 23 mpg‑imp) city and 23 mpg‑US (10 L/100 km; 28 mpg‑imp) highway miles per gallon. An updated EPA mileage estimate in February 2007 rated the RDX at 17 mpg‑US (14 L/100 km; 20 mpg‑imp) city and 22 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg‑imp) highway.

IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING, THERE WAS THE FAINT SOUND OF OUTSIDE AIR COMING FROM THE SUNROOF. THE DRIVER OPENED THE SUNROOF SHADE JUST ENOUGH TO IMMEDIATELY SEE THAT THE ENTIRE SUNROOF GLASS WAS SHATTERED (STILL INTACT, BUT COMPLETELY SHATTERED). WITHIN THREE MINUTES WHEN A SAFE PLACE WAS REACHED, THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO EXAMINE FROM OUTSIDE. DRIVER GOT OUT OF THE CAR, AND SAW THAT THE GLASS SUNROOF WAS BUCKLED UPWARDS (AS THOUGH IT HAD POPPED FROM THE INSIDE). THE GLASS WAS NOT BROKEN IN ANY PATTERN WHICH INDICATED AN OBJECT FROM OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE HAD HIT IT. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE ANYWHERE ELSE ON THE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE OF ANY INCIDENT. IT WAS CLEAR THAT THE GLASS HAD POPPED, POTENTIALLY DUE TO INCORRECT PRESSURE INSIDE THE VEHICLE, FROM THE INSIDE OUT. - Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling specific 2003 Acura 3.2CL, 2013-2016 ILX, 2013-2014 ILX Hybrid, 2003-2006 MDX, 2007-2016 RDX, 2002-2003 3.2TL, 2004-2006, and 2009-2014 TL, 2010-2013 ZDX and 2001-2007 and 2009 Honda Accord, 2001-2005 Civic, 2003-2005 Civic Hybrid, 2001-2005 Civic GX NGV, 2002-2007 and 2010-2011 CR-V, 2003-2011 Element, 2007 Fit, 2002-2004 Odyssey, 2003-2008 Pilot, and 2006-2014 Ridgeline vehicles. The affected vehicles received a replacement driver air bag inflator as part of a previous Takata inflator recall remedy or a replacement driver air bag module containing the same inflator type as a service part. Due to a manufacturing error, in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver frontal air bag, these inflators may explode.
- Consequence: An explosion of an inflator within the driver frontal air bag module may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver, front seat passenger or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's air bag inflator with an alternate inflator, free of charge. The recall began April 10, 2019. Honda owners may contact customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is O41. Acura owners may contact customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Acura's number for this recall is U40.

I love this car! It's great to hear that you're enjoying your Acura MDX, but this car is definitely fast. The seats are incredibly comfortable and the cabin noise is minimal. I'm surprised to hear about the poor mileage complaint, as I've consistently gotten around 22 mpg over the last 7000 miles. The rear seats have nice leg space and the sound system is good too. It's a great value for money without sacrificing the fun part. The acceleration is fast when needed, so if you're considering the CR-V or RAV4 with all options, I would highly recommend this car instead. The ride is also really nice and not bumpy at all. I recently had to replace my 05 Infiniti FX35, which was a beautifully designed and high-performing vehicle. After considering several options, including the BMW X3, Infiniti FX35, and Acura RDX, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I didn't have to sacrifice much to move to a less expensive vehicle. While the RDX has some drawbacks, such as the lack of automatic headlights, awkward styling, poor mileage, and basic rims, it also has some significant positives, such as sports car handling and acceleration, an AWD system, and a lower price point. In fact, if money were no object, I would be deciding between the BMW X6 or the FX50. Overall, I'm happy to have saved some money without giving up too much in terms of performance and features.

I purchased my RDX tech for approximately 32k + taxes. I believe that the feature content is excellent for the price. I am unsure why some people believe that it rides harshly, as I find the ride/handling balance to be just right. It is sporty and confidence-inspiring without being too harsh or floaty. The only downside to this car is the omission of a couple of cheap-but-nice features and the fuel economy, which could have been better if they had put the V6 under the hood. Nevertheless, it has more than enough power to handle traffic.

The car has less than 1,000 miles and averaged 22 mpg on the second tank of gasoline with both town and highway driving. The turbo comes on quickly when needed. We appreciate the stiff suspension and are excited for the AWD during our long Alaska winters. This is our third turbo car and they just keep getting better. We love the memory power seats and mirrors, which are perfect for two drivers of different heights. With the easy-to-fold rear seats, it provides plenty of room for shopping trips. After spending a year looking at various crossovers, the RDX always moved to the top of our list. We plan to keep our cars for 12+ years and are looking forward to a long-term relationship.

I've been driving my Acura for two months now and have put almost 1,800 miles on it. Unfortunately, I've noticed a rattle on the left-hand side of the car since I hit 65 miles. I'm bringing it back to the dealer next week to have it looked at again. The car's mpg has never gotten over 16, but it is winter in WI, so that's to be expected. While it handles well in the snow, I can't say it's any better than my old BMW 525XI. I've noticed that some of the interior parts seem a bit cheap, and it can be a bit bumpy when driving in the city, almost like a Jeep Wrangler. Overall, I had higher expectations for this car, especially since it's supposed to be a near-luxury vehicle. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with it for another 34 months since I'm leasing it. I recently rode in a Ford Escape that didn't have any rattling and was much quieter. The dealer has apologized, but I still feel like I should be getting more out of my car.

The ride on the highway was quite bumpy and made me feel sick to my stomach. Unfortunately, we are unable to change the sports suspension as it would void the warranty. I regret not walking away from the dealership after they were indecisive about matching the printed price of others. Now, I am stuck with a vehicle that makes me feel nauseous on bumpy roads or dizzy.

I've had my RDX for nearly three years on a lease and I will be turning it in and not getting another. Unfortunately, the gas mileage is well below what is listed at 17mpg in town. Living in Boston and driving around town, I only get about 11/12 miles per gallon, and I'm not a lead foot. However, the Turbo is not bad when it kicks in, although there is some lag. I have mixed feelings about this car. While it has a sporty and tight driving experience, it can be quite bumpy on rough pavement. The car has three electronic displays, but the technology is a bit outdated. Unfortunately, the voice recognition and navigation systems are not up to par. On the bright side, the fuel economy is excellent for this segment, achieving 22 MPG. However, the turbos are not well-managed, making linear acceleration difficult. The leather seats are not as high-quality as those found in a Benz. The car's handling on snow is not great due to its torquiness, so I had to invest in snow tires. Although the exterior styling is questionable, I appreciate its compact size. Ultimately, I decided to trade it in after only one year for a BMW X6, mainly to avoid the annoying fan whine when using the heat.
