The Acura RDX is a compact luxury crossover SUV produced by Acura, a luxury vehicle division of Honda, as the second crossover SUV offering from the brand after the mid-size MDX. Since it was introduced, it shared its platform with the Honda Civic and CR-V.
First generation (TB1/2; 2007)
Originally previewed as the Acura RD-X concept car, the production RDX had its debut at the 2006 New York Auto Show and went on sale on August 11, 2006. A facelifted 2010 model went on sale in August 2009, which featured the addition Acura's "power plenum" grille and a front-wheel drive option.
Engine
The first-generation RDX is powered by a 2.3-litre straight-4 turbocharged gasoline engine, rated at 240 bhp (179 kW; 243 PS) at 6,000 rpm with a torque peak of 260 ft⋅lbf (350 N⋅m) at 4,500 rpm. At the time, this was uncommon among Honda vehicles.
The K23A1 engine has all-aluminum construction, an i-VTEC head, and dual balance shafts. It was also one of the only four-cylinder powered luxury SUVs of its generation. Honda's variable flow turbocharger reduces turbo lag by using a valve to narrow the exhaust passage at low rpm, increasing the velocity of the exhaust flow and keeping the turbine spinning rapidly. At higher rpm, the valve opens to allow more exhaust flow for increased boost. The engine also features a top-mounted intercooler which receives air from the grille, channeled by ducting under the hood.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimated fuel mileage is 19 mpg‑US (12 L/100 km; 23 mpg‑imp) city and 23 mpg‑US (10 L/100 km; 28 mpg‑imp) highway miles per gallon. An updated EPA mileage estimate in February 2007 rated the RDX at 17 mpg‑US (14 L/100 km; 20 mpg‑imp) city and 22 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg‑imp) highway.

- Summary: The contact owns a 2024 Acura RDX. The contact stated that while the child was seated in the rear drivers seat, the seatbelt buckle locking mechanism had malfunctioned. The contact was unable to unlatch the seat belt buckle and eventually scissors were used to cut the the seat belt strap in order to free the child. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 5,000.

- Summary: This issue involves the decorative aluminum trim on the steering wheel. The aluminum trim is highly reflective and installed at an angle on the steering wheel spokes. In bright sunlight and at certain angles of the sun there is a very strong light reflection into the drivers eyes. This has caused temporary blindness until the position of the car changes or you put a hand over that part of the trim. The lower spoke (at about the 6 o'clock position) is the worst. Since it is a design flaw, I have not reported it to the dealer.
ENGINE PROBLEM

- Summary: Interstate 10 near Live Oak, Florida. Conditions were light fog and roads were dry. The previous day we drove about six hours, two or three times in very heavy rain. We were driving eastbound (two eastbound lanes) in the right lane. We were approaching a Semi-trailer followed by a medium-sized box truck and switched to the left lane to pass both vehicles. Another vehicle was approaching from behind in the left lane and I "floored" the accelerator pedal to quickly pass the two trucks. The RDX downshifted as expected and the engine revs increased briefly, but suddenly the Check Engine light started blinking and the car lost power and went into Limp Mode. Pressing the accelerator to the floor made little difference. Instead of quickly passing I was only able to get past the two trucks at a slow rate with a line of vehicles growing behind me. Eventually I was able to get past the trucks, switch lanes and quickly move over to the breakdown lane. If there had been heavier traffic, this could have easily resulted in a serious accident. I restarted the vehicle and resumed our trip without further incident. This is a known issue supposedly addressed by Acura via TSB 20-053 for some model years and reported on Acura enthusiast web sites. I had the same experience with my previous 2020 RDX after having the TSB completed, I filed an report for that incident under NHTSA ID Number: 11522688. There are hundreds of reports for this issue for all 3rd Generation RDX model years, 2019-2024, on the NHTSA site I brought the vehicle to a dealer on July 5, 2024. Unable to duplicate. No codes stored (as has been stated on other reported incidents). No water intrusion to coil packs or plugs and no fouling or damage to plugs. I cannot trust a vehicle if I have to be concerned about whether or not I should pass another vehicle and how hard I can press the accelerator. This is an ongoing issue with the RDX that should be investigated.
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM

- Summary: Driver side mirror is vibrating while driving- more noticeable at speeds above 35 mph. Took into the dealer for replacement. After ride with tech, tech confirmed issue. Dealer replaced driver side mirror but still shakes/vibrates while driving. Vibration causes distortion of vehicles and other surrounding items in driver side mirror. Also, vibration causes distraction to driver.

- Summary: I *think* this may be an Acuralink issue, but here is what happened. While working in my front yard, my car's headlamps suddenly flashed 3 times, and then the cars engine started. My car does not have remote start, my key and my phone were inside the house. Nobody else has access to the keys. On an new car, you get a trial subscription to Acuralink. One of it's features is "Remote Start" via a phone App. I bought the car on 12/22/23. On 12/26/23, I tried the Acuralink App and tried to remote start my car....it did not work, so I deleted the App from my phone. Today, 1/5/24, 11 days later, my car starts on its own out of the blue even though I deleted the App from my phone on 12/26/23. It's just hunch, that this issue is related to the Acuralink service, but I cannot think of any other way this car could just suddenly start on its own. - Consequence: Corroded and binding steering gears can result in a loss of steering control and increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the electric power steering rack, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 4, 2024. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are LHU and FHT.

Are you having problems with your 2024 Acura Rdx?

In April 2023, we purchased a brand new Acura RDX Aspec after driving an Audi Q5 for 10 years. Unfortunately, the Audi started consuming oil and rusting, so we decided to upgrade. The Acura was a great price and we loved its looks, size, and drive. However, we live on a gravel road and encountered some issues with the brake pads and dust pan behind them. Gravel would get stuck and cause high-pitched squeaking and squealing. Despite the dealership being unable to find a solution, we endured the situation for 3 months before deciding to trade it in for a different brand. Additionally, we noticed a lot of road noise coming from the bottom of the car. Although it was a great car, we wouldn't recommend it for those who regularly drive on gravel roads due to this design flaw. We ended up purchasing a new Mercedes GLC 300 and have had no issues. We hope our fellow farmers and countrymen/women can learn from our experience instead of making the same mistake. 😊

I strongly advise against purchasing this car due to the Tech pac issue. Within the first month of owning the car, I experienced numerous warning issues, including the auto brake system activating unnecessarily. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this brand and will not be purchasing from them again.

Although I appreciate the sound system, I find the touchpad and navigating around the settings to set up favorites to be quite challenging and time-consuming. Despite having leased the car for only two weeks, I am considering other options due to the difficulties I have experienced with the radio system.
