The Acura RDX is a compact luxury crossover SUV produced by Acura, a luxury vehicle division of Honda, as the second crossover SUV offering from the brand after the mid-size MDX. Since it was introduced, it shared its platform with the Honda Civic and CR-V.
First generation (TB1/2; 2007)
Originally previewed as the Acura RD-X concept car, the production RDX had its debut at the 2006 New York Auto Show and went on sale on August 11, 2006. A facelifted 2010 model went on sale in August 2009, which featured the addition Acura's "power plenum" grille and a front-wheel drive option.
Engine
The first-generation RDX is powered by a 2.3-litre straight-4 turbocharged gasoline engine, rated at 240 bhp (179 kW; 243 PS) at 6,000 rpm with a torque peak of 260 ft⋅lbf (350 N⋅m) at 4,500 rpm. At the time, this was uncommon among Honda vehicles.
The K23A1 engine has all-aluminum construction, an i-VTEC head, and dual balance shafts. It was also one of the only four-cylinder powered luxury SUVs of its generation. Honda's variable flow turbocharger reduces turbo lag by using a valve to narrow the exhaust passage at low rpm, increasing the velocity of the exhaust flow and keeping the turbine spinning rapidly. At higher rpm, the valve opens to allow more exhaust flow for increased boost. The engine also features a top-mounted intercooler which receives air from the grille, channeled by ducting under the hood.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimated fuel mileage is 19 mpg‑US (12 L/100 km; 23 mpg‑imp) city and 23 mpg‑US (10 L/100 km; 28 mpg‑imp) highway miles per gallon. An updated EPA mileage estimate in February 2007 rated the RDX at 17 mpg‑US (14 L/100 km; 20 mpg‑imp) city and 22 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg‑imp) highway.

- Summary: My 2018 RDX has started to jerk when I stop and then restart. I have noticed some hesitation and a bit of jerky driving but today it was very noticeable. I could barely go above 40 miles an hour after I started driving after a stop light and the car was very jerky. It seems to be either a fuel pump or transmission issue. I am going to check with the RDX dealership where I bought the car in 2018 but I wanted to report the issue. I also looked up the VIN on my car for a recall and the system said my car had not been recalled. Not sure why my 2018 RDX is different from other 2018 RDX models that were recalled.

- Summary: The breaks did not work while in a parking lot right after switching into drive. No major risk of any injury where this occurred. Not reported to the dealer, not inspected. No injury, no property damage. I left my wife in the vehicle with the car in park and went into the store. I came out 15 minutes later, car was running. I got in, put my foot on the break, and switch to drive? The car started rolling forward on its own. I repeatedly tried the breaks, but no response. I had steering. I gave it a little gas, and the engine reved like it was in neutral. I looked down and that point the car indicated it was in neutral. My wife said that none of the drive indicators were on while I had the issue. At some point the breaks started working, after I gave it a little gas? I got the car into drive, and tested it before moving on to verify it was behaving correctly. The forward motion of the vehicle was probably due to the slope it was parked on, rather than the car's idle power. This also matches the car then reporting it was in neutral. The biggest issue was no breaks at the point it started rolling forward. My comment was that was weird, but it scared my wife, so I am reporting it. I was operating the vehicle.

- Summary: I purchased my 2015 Acura RDX in October of 202o. At about 90K miles, two years later, the Low-Beam headlights started getting dimmer and it is now 4 years into owning the vehicle and literally impossible to see at night. It is not the lens clouding over, nor is it the bulbs which have been replaced a couple times now. Looking online I see that there is a problem with the reflective coating on the inside of the headlight assembly, as it deteriorates it makes the headlights dim at night. This needs to be recalled by ACURA and is definitely a safety hazard! I've already almost been in two accidents because of this. Leaving high beams on at night is the only option which poses another hazard to oncoming traffic.

Vehicle year: 2017
This base model is exactly what we were looking for - no extra pampering or gizmos. However, being an Acura, this SUV delivers a great product for what you spend. We love that this RDX came with standard features like power lift gate and sunroof, which most other manufacturers charge extra for. The practical setup of the instruments is great, and while it may seem a bit archaic in this day of touchscreens, it's simple and safer for eyes on the road. The iPhone 8 works well for Pandora and music, although every now and then it requires a reattaching of the USB cable to clear up an error. Bluetooth works well for calls and audio, but there is a problem with loading my phone book which is a bit annoying. The text option isn't compatible, which is a downer. But all in all, it's a decent base system. The comfort is great, with plenty of space for 5 and a flat rear floor. The leatherette feels okay, just cross your fingers it lasts. Entering and exiting is very easy, and the doors open just wide enough. The cargo space is typical, but we love the power lift gate, especially when our hands are full. The powertrain is awesome, with great power when needed. The 6 banger of yesteryear is an oldie but a goodie, and our engine seems like it's bulletproof and will last. We typically get 28-29 mpg on the highway and 25-26 mpg in mixed driving, and it's premium recommended, not required, which is another plus. The old 6-speed shifts smoothly, and the paddle shifters are a neat feature. We love the headlights - they're a lifesaver when traveling on dark 2-lane highways. The LED lights have saved us from a few furry road obstacles and damage. The significant cutoff doesn't bother us until we get into hilly roads. Road noise isn't an issue - it's pretty good, but don't expect a vault silent ride. The ride is well composed and might I say a little fun when on twisty roads. This SUV handles well for its size.We haven't had any issues or problems that required us to take the car to the shop. The Acura has proven to be a reliable vehicle that only requires simple and affordable maintenance. All power options are working perfectly and there are no rattles, leaks, or signs of wear and tear. While the paint and finish look good, they don't have the same glossy and rich appearance as my wife's one-year-older Lexus. However, we plan on keeping this car for a long time and are confident that it will last. Hopefully, Honda will improve the reliability of their Acura division in the future, as we may need another RDX down the line.

I love this one! I have driven Honda Civic, Accord, Odyssey, Ford, and others. I tried Pilot, New Odyssey, Sienna, Routan, BMW X3, MDX, and finally went with RDX. It's an unbelievable feeling! I drove 600 miles around Houston - local and highway - and averaged 21mpg.

My wife has been driving the Acura RDX for almost 2 and a half years now and she absolutely loves it. She does frequent short trips for her Home Health patient visits and the car has had zero issues, not even a squeak or a creak! The V6 is still pulling about 21.5 MPG which is great. The car is fantastic and we couldn't be happier with it. The technology could use some improvement, especially the voice recognition and slow interface. It would be great to have Google Maps/Apple Car Play. The car excels in just about every other area. The Modern Steel Metallic with Graystone interior is gorgeous. Averaging 23 mpg around town. The only complaint is really the outdated and slow navigation system.

I've been driving the RDX tech package for about 2 months now and I absolutely love it! The bluetooth and other tech features are fantastic and really enhance my driving experience. The car is the perfect size for me - not too big, but with plenty of room. While I would have preferred a manual transmission, I still find the car very comfortable to drive. I've seen some complaints about the ride, but personally, I wouldn't want to give up any of the fine handling that would undoubtedly be lost with a more plush ride. While I'm getting 21 MPG, which would have been fine for me several years ago, I can't imagine considering a car with this type of mileage next time around. Overall, I'm extremely happy with the quality, feel, and image of the RDX.

I drive 25K miles per year in Northern and Central Valley California, mostly on I-5 at 70 mph, and also into Sierra foothills in light snow. The acceleration is excellent when entering highways and passing on 2 lane roads. The only negative aspect is that the suspension is very tight, which is great for cornering but can be bothersome on poor roadways at highway speed. However, I still prefer it to my wife's 2007 MDX. Although premium fuel is required, I was aware of this when I purchased the car. The interior is great, except for the center console armrest, which is made of thin vinyl that began to wear and tear after 4 years. I mentioned this to the dealer, and they acknowledged that other owners had the same complaint. Overall, I am confident in the quality of this car and hope to get another 50K miles out of it while waiting for the Tesla Model 3.

I ordered my RDX in November 2022 and took possession of it in March 2023. Unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with the vehicle, including oil dripping on my garage floor on three separate occasions, which resulted in a total of over 30 days in the Acura shop. Recently, while on a trip to Tennessee, my vehicle sensors went from green to amber. I am currently taking my RDX to an Acura dealer in Franklin TN for a sensor fix. I have filed a LEMON notice with Acura via Florida Lemon Law guidelines. Although I am disappointed with these issues, I appreciate that Acura is taking the matter seriously and involving their head mechanics to find a solution. I paid over 60k for my RDX, and I believe that these issues should not be happening with a brand new vehicle.

This car has been giving me a lot of trouble lately. The software needs improvement and the dealership has been unable to help me. The radio sometimes comes on unexpectedly and I have trouble changing channels. Occasionally, I have difficulty making phone calls. Twice, the car has refused to go out of Park, which has been frustrating. It has also locked me out and stopped in traffic twice. The infotainment features work inconsistently, and sometimes I have no contact list or the car tells me it cannot perform a request. While it is a pretty car, it has not been performing reliably. Even the mileage has not been as predicted. I plan to trade it after a year, but in the meantime, it's been a bit of a headache. If you're looking for a car, I would recommend considering other options.

As a lifelong Honda driver and fan, I have some feedback on my recent experience with the car. While the drive itself is terrific and sporty enough for a 4 cylinder car, I have noticed a few issues with the touch pad and Airplay. Sometimes the touch pad can be a bit jumpy, and Airplay doesn't work about every 5th time, which can be frustrating. However, I do find the seats to be quite comfortable. The seat belt anchor could be 1/2 inch longer, and the driver's side heat vent blows into the steering wheel and cannot be properly adjusted. While my MPG has been at the lower end of the expected range, I understand that with Covid, I'm doing very little highway driving. Overall, I appreciate Honda's efforts and look forward to seeing improvements in future models.

We've driven almost 10,000 miles and I must say, the more I drive this SUV, the more I like it. It's the little things that make a difference, like the car knowing your seat memory settings by your key fob. As soon as you step into the car, it adjusts automatically. We opted for the Advance package and we're really enjoying the ventilated seats, rain sensing wipers, and the ELS sound system. The cargo space is as roomy as my Subaru Outback, and the all-wheel drive is just as good in snow and primitive trail conditions. If you're someone who needs to be connected to their phone all the time, this car may not be for you. Bluetooth works well, but the screens look a bit dated, like an older version of Windows. That being said, it's understated luxury - it may not have a sexy BMW nameplate, but we didn't care about that. If you're looking for a car that offers creature comforts that come with a premium brand combined with excellent reliability, this is the car for you.

The 2010 RDX drives exceptionally well, particularly in snowy conditions. Despite my previous love for this car, I have unfortunately had to make several warranty repairs, including replacing four batteries, the auto start, the air compressor relay switch, the alternator, and the windshield wiper switch. Despite these issues, I can confidently say that I have enjoyed my time with Acura.
