The Acura RDX is a compact luxury crossover SUV produced by Acura, a luxury vehicle division of Honda, as the second crossover SUV offering from the brand after the mid-size MDX. Since it was introduced, it shared its platform with the Honda Civic and CR-V.
First generation (TB1/2; 2007)
Originally previewed as the Acura RD-X concept car, the production RDX had its debut at the 2006 New York Auto Show and went on sale on August 11, 2006. A facelifted 2010 model went on sale in August 2009, which featured the addition Acura's "power plenum" grille and a front-wheel drive option.
Engine
The first-generation RDX is powered by a 2.3-litre straight-4 turbocharged gasoline engine, rated at 240 bhp (179 kW; 243 PS) at 6,000 rpm with a torque peak of 260 ft⋅lbf (350 N⋅m) at 4,500 rpm. At the time, this was uncommon among Honda vehicles.
The K23A1 engine has all-aluminum construction, an i-VTEC head, and dual balance shafts. It was also one of the only four-cylinder powered luxury SUVs of its generation. Honda's variable flow turbocharger reduces turbo lag by using a valve to narrow the exhaust passage at low rpm, increasing the velocity of the exhaust flow and keeping the turbine spinning rapidly. At higher rpm, the valve opens to allow more exhaust flow for increased boost. The engine also features a top-mounted intercooler which receives air from the grille, channeled by ducting under the hood.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimated fuel mileage is 19 mpg‑US (12 L/100 km; 23 mpg‑imp) city and 23 mpg‑US (10 L/100 km; 28 mpg‑imp) highway miles per gallon. An updated EPA mileage estimate in February 2007 rated the RDX at 17 mpg‑US (14 L/100 km; 20 mpg‑imp) city and 22 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg‑imp) highway.

- Summary: My 2018 RDX has started to jerk when I stop and then restart. I have noticed some hesitation and a bit of jerky driving but today it was very noticeable. I could barely go above 40 miles an hour after I started driving after a stop light and the car was very jerky. It seems to be either a fuel pump or transmission issue. I am going to check with the RDX dealership where I bought the car in 2018 but I wanted to report the issue. - Summary: The breaks did not work while in a parking lot right after switching into drive. No major risk of any injury where this occurred. Not reported to the dealer, not inspected. No injury, no property damage. I left my wife in the vehicle with the car in park and went into the store. I came out 15 minutes later, car was running. I got in, put my foot on the break, and switch to drive? The car started rolling forward on its own. I repeatedly tried the breaks, but no response. I had steering. I gave it a little gas, and the engine reved like it was in neutral. I looked down and that point the car indicated it was in neutral. My wife said that none of the drive indicators were on while I had the issue. At some point the breaks started working, after I gave it a little gas? I got the car into drive, and tested it before moving on to verify it was behaving correctly. The forward motion of the vehicle was probably due to the slope it was parked on, rather than the car's idle power. This also matches the car then reporting it was in neutral. The biggest issue was no breaks at the point it started rolling forward. My comment was that was weird, but it scared my wife, so I am reporting it. I was operating the vehicle.

- Summary: I purchased my 2015 Acura RDX in October of 202o. At about 90K miles, two years later, the Low-Beam headlights started getting dimmer and it is now 4 years into owning the vehicle and literally impossible to see at night. It is not the lens clouding over, nor is it the bulbs which have been replaced a couple times now. Looking online I see that there is a problem with the reflective coating on the inside of the headlight assembly, as it deteriorates it makes the headlights dim at night. This needs to be recalled by ACURA and is definitely a safety hazard! I've already almost been in two accidents because of this. Leaving high beams on at night is the only option which poses another hazard to oncoming traffic.

Looking for a well-priced semi-luxury crossover? Then this might just fit the bill! While it may not be a perfect SUV, it is a very well-rounded vehicle for a good price. To be honest, I love this car. For me, it strikes the perfect balance for everything I was looking for. This car has the power that most people want with decent gas mileage. It also has the comfort and luxury found only in higher-priced vehicles. You really get a lot out of what you pay for this vehicle. To me, it's like the balance between the more expensive Audi's, Infinity's, Volvo's, and the want-to-be CX5 signature. It fits somewhere in between but closer to the more expensive luxury brands. It looks great, drives great, and won't destroy you with payments. Compared to a fully decked-out Rav 4 (non-prime), you're not paying much more, but you get so much more. On paper, it checks almost all the boxes that people needing a crossover will need. Edited...it has now been 2 years since our purchase, and I have had no issues with this vehicle. Update... 3 years after owning the car, I still have not had a single issue with it. I am very happy with my purchase!

Driving this car is a very smooth, comfortable, and powerful experience. In terms of price, it is the best luxury SUV available. When compared to other compact luxury SUVs with similar options, the price is very reasonable. While there are a few options that are not available, such as the blind spot monitor, I was aware of this before purchasing. However, the Bluetooth connectivity for phone calls is poor. The audio quality is very low and the other person on the line hears a lot of background noise, such as wind blowing. In contrast, the Bluetooth phone connection in my 2012 Camry is very nice. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase and I love my car. The base model comes with a lot of standard features, which is great.

I have leased 2 MDXs in the past six years and I had no reason to look outside the Acura line to lease a new vehicle. However, I wanted to economize on lease payments and no longer needed the additional space and seating of the MDX. The RDX really fits the bill. It has super handling, great performance, and provides real comfort for the driver and front seat passenger. The traditional Acura safety features and interior appointments are apparent. The voice-activated tech package is awesome, though it requires familiarity. This vehicle is just a joy to drive.

This car looks small and drives like a small car but interior/cargo space is plenty. I'm 6'2 and I have plenty of room to spare. The acceleration and handling are great, and coming from a Civic Si and Evo IX, this car definitely deserves the title of sportiest CUV in the market. I opted for AWD without the technology package, and it has everything I need. I cannot justify the price of $3000 on navigation. Overall, this is an excellent vehicle with great value.

I recently purchased an RDX after comparing it to a Mazda CX50. The packaging really sold me on this car because it had all the technology options I was looking for. Although I had to compare the RDX to the top of the line trim in some of the lower priced cars to get an upgraded stereo and voice activated navigation system, I was happy to avoid the status symbol associated with a BMW or a Mercedes. While I find the lack of a drive shift handle a bit inconvenient and the switches for park and drive still not automatic for me after two months, I must say that the stereo is great and the engine provides a surprising amount of power. Handling is likewise exceptional. Although the cost of the spare tire kit is not standard on the car, I still think it's a good value. The only downside is the noise level on the highway. I gave up a Lincoln for this car and I also drive a Lexus, but compared to those vehicles, I feel like I am driving down the road with the windows open. Thanks to A/C, it has been a very long time since I had to do that, but without a specific location for the noise, it is just all over. I think I am hearing the tires rolling on the pavement. I tried turning up the stereo but short of headphones, nothing can dampen the noise. If you do a lot of interstate driving, this is not the car for you. On the positive side, I have been averaging 23.2 MPG.

I was really excited about this car after reading the glowing Edmunds review, but after taking it for a test drive, we found that the road noise was quite loud. It was difficult to hear the person sitting next to you with a normal speaking voice while on the highway, and you had to raise your voice to be heard from the back seat. Although the technology is great and the reliability of a Honda is usually excellent, the interior noise was a deal breaker for us. Additionally, we found the rear seats to be rather hard and uncomfortable.

Acura should be selling a luxury car that meets the high standards of their brand. However, this particular model falls short in several areas. It lacks automatic headlights, a basic safety and convenience feature that is available on similar, and many far less expensive cars. The gas mileage is also lower than advertised. Additionally, the rear door is difficult to open and the instrument panel, particularly the radio controls, are poorly designed and hard to use. Despite these shortcomings, the turbo engine performs well and the ride is decent. Overall, this model does not meet the expectations that come with the Acura brand.

I ordered my RDX in November 2022 and took possession of it in March 2023. Unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with the vehicle, including oil dripping on my garage floor on three separate occasions, which resulted in a total of over 30 days in the Acura shop. Recently, while on a trip to Tennessee, my vehicle sensors went from green to amber. I am currently taking my RDX to an Acura dealer in Franklin TN for a sensor fix. I have filed a LEMON notice with Acura via Florida Lemon Law guidelines. Although I am disappointed with these issues, I appreciate that Acura is taking the matter seriously and involving their head mechanics to find a solution. I paid over 60k for my RDX, and I believe that these issues should not be happening with a brand new vehicle.

Hey there! I wanted to share my experience with this car. While there have been some challenges with the onboard system and Android Auto, I have found that the interior options and SH-AWD are definite highlights. Although the gas tank is a bit small and the mirrors don't fold in automatically, I still think this car has a lot to offer. While AcuraLink hasn't worked for me, I'm still enjoying the vehicle overall. Thanks for listening!
