2020 Acura Rdx problems

The Acura RDX is a compact luxury crossover SUV produced by Acura, a luxury vehicle division of Honda, as the second crossover SUV offering from the brand after the mid-size MDX. Since it was introduced, it shared its platform with the Honda Civic and CR-V.
First generation (TB1/2; 2007)
Originally previewed as the Acura RD-X concept car, the production RDX had its debut at the 2006 New York Auto Show and went on sale on August 11, 2006. A facelifted 2010 model went on sale in August 2009, which featured the addition Acura's "power plenum" grille and a front-wheel drive option.
Engine
The first-generation RDX is powered by a 2.3-litre straight-4 turbocharged gasoline engine, rated at 240 bhp (179 kW; 243 PS) at 6,000 rpm with a torque peak of 260 ft⋅lbf (350 N⋅m) at 4,500 rpm. At the time, this was uncommon among Honda vehicles.
The K23A1 engine has all-aluminum construction, an i-VTEC head, and dual balance shafts. It was also one of the only four-cylinder powered luxury SUVs of its generation. Honda's variable flow turbocharger reduces turbo lag by using a valve to narrow the exhaust passage at low rpm, increasing the velocity of the exhaust flow and keeping the turbine spinning rapidly. At higher rpm, the valve opens to allow more exhaust flow for increased boost. The engine also features a top-mounted intercooler which receives air from the grille, channeled by ducting under the hood.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimated fuel mileage is 19 mpg‑US (12 L/100 km; 23 mpg‑imp) city and 23 mpg‑US (10 L/100 km; 28 mpg‑imp) highway miles per gallon. An updated EPA mileage estimate in February 2007 rated the RDX at 17 mpg‑US (14 L/100 km; 20 mpg‑imp) city and 22 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg‑imp) highway.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

- VIN: 5J8TC1H7XLL
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: My wife weighs about 125 pounds. When she sits in the front passenger seat of this car, often (but not always) an indicator will light up on the dashboard, saying "Passenger Air Bag OFF." Even if she shifts around in the seat or bounces up and down, the indicator light will stay on. I have taken the car to my local Acura dealer twice, asking that this problem be diagnosed and fixed. The first time their service technician reported "No issues at this time. Unable to duplicate concern at this time." The second time (today), the technician reported that he had "checked system for codes, no codes in system. Light will go on and off if passenger moves around in seat." I remain quite concerned that this un-repaired problem is a significant safety issue, as the indicator light appears to be saying that the airbag won't deploy in a collision.

The 2019 RDX Tech. Pkg. / FWD is an exceptional SUV. Its report card is all A's, and everything works perfectly. The ride quality is superb, and there is plenty of interior room for all passengers. The drive modes are really tuned to feel different levels of driving enjoyment, and the head lights are especially spectacular. You will find yourself looking for dark roads to enjoy the powerful illumination. The sound system is a daily symphony - WOW, and the V-Tec engine is a hotrod. The truth is this engine is only about 2 tenths of a second off from an Audi Q5. Plus, it decimates Volvo, Cadillac, and Infinity. The V-tec goes from proper to insane with the turn of the mode dial. The power band on this SUV will raise your blood pressure and place an ear-to-ear smile on your face. Do not underestimate the RDX; it is the new benchmark of practical luxury. Update July 2022: More than 3 years with the RDX and no issues, just a minor recall to replace the info screen connector. The brakes still have plenty of grip, and there are no issues. The only pocket spending I have done is oil changes, and I replaced all 4 original tires (at 45,000 miles). The interior is still brand new, and the engine is still superb. The RDX is the perfect SUV.

I'm almost 60 years old and have owned many cars in my life, but this one is by far the best. Although it's not the fastest car I've owned and I have the base AWD, it does everything so well. I've had it for 6 weeks and I absolutely love it! As for any 'negatives', the infotainment system may not be the easiest, but after using it, most people will get used to it. Due to COVID, I leased through a third party (RODO.com) that drove the car to my house from the Acura dealer they chose, which was about 100 miles from where I live. I knew the lease price to the penny and there were no hidden fees. They included all costs upfront, including taxes, DMV, and dealer fees. I'm super happy with the car and will be going to my local Acura dealer for my maintenance services during my lease.

I am a proud owner of my fifth Acura and third RDX. Throughout my driving history, I have owned various car brands, including Fords, Dodges, Mercedes, Hondas, Chryslers, Oldsmobiles, GMCs, and Nissans. I am an avid researcher and subscribe to magazines, read articles on Google, watch reviews on YouTube, and attend car shows. I even educate salesmen at dealerships. So, why did I choose to buy another RDX despite the negative reviews, particularly regarding the infotainment system? I was initially nervous about the new touchpad, but I decided to learn as much as I could about it before making a decision. I am still learning new features and procedures every day, but I find the touchpad intuitive and easy to use. Although there is a learning curve, it is worth the effort. Before I took delivery, I was informed that the freezing and other issues were caused by using Waze on CarPlay, which is not compatible with the Acura system. If this is a major concern, I suggest not using Waze while connected to the car or using a different phone. I use my wife's phone in coordination with the Acura system, and it works great. The car has a great road feel, and the SHAWD delivers a firm ride. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend the Acura RDX.The engine is smooth and very peppy. It's definitely more fun than the prior generation. While gas mileage isn't great, it's on par with other cars in this segment. The seats are extremely comfortable, and the interior is roomy, providing a feeling of luxury and power as you enter the car. It's definitely a nice place to be. I won't say that it's better or nicer than the other European competitors or the Lexus, Infinity, Cadillacs... but every car made today will be reliable and perform as it's meant to. At this point, it's all a matter of personal taste. The Volvo XC60 is a beautiful, comfortable car, but it's not very sporty. The Lincoln Corsair is gorgeous inside, and the Lexus RX is unbelievable inside, but neither has any road feel. They are just sanctuaries. Personally, I don't like the run-flat tires that come on the German cars, but that's my personal preference. I simply like the way the Acura feels compared to the other models in the segment, and the Acura is by far a better value. Loaded up, the car is several thousand dollars less than any of the above and holds its value better too. The BMW, with its pricing and options, made me feel like I was being nickeled and dimed, especially with the insurance policy for the tires, and I hate that. The reason that the Acura is so much less expensive is that it's much less customizable. It wasn't an issue for me, but maybe it is for you. I don't much like the auto-off feature, but all the cars are coming with it. Truth be told, it will likely be a pain in the neck if you're in heavy traffic, but being stopped at a light, I'll get used to it. In summation, I highly recommend this car.

We are absolutely thrilled with our new Acura SH RDX! We just picked it up today from Sutton Acura in Macon, GA. It's a truly classy midsize SUV and we love how it handles on the road. The new technology is amazing and we're excited to learn how to use it all. We looked at and test drove many other vehicles, but we fell in love with this SUV's style and features. The roomy interior and seats with lumbar support are especially comfortable. We are so happy with our choice and want to thank Sutton Acura for their excellent service. We love our new Acura SH RDX!

This car is fantastic! I've only had it for a month and I've already driven 4000 miles. The infotainment system is great and I got used to it in just a day. I use Apple Car Play and Waze all the time with no issues. The adaptive cruise control is amazing and makes highway driving a breeze, providing a great safety benefit. The sound system is incredible, especially when listening to HiFi recordings (I found some great playlists on Tidal). The seats are very comfortable and the skylight is wonderful. The only minor issue is that the 'put out your foot and open the trunk with no hands' mechanism doesn't work well with flip flops, but it's not a big deal. Coming from 20 years of minivans, I do wish it had more cupholders, but overall it's a great car!

There is currently a class action lawsuit against Acura for the 2020 RDX. My car has only done 5,000 miles and unfortunately, since the very first day I drove it, every few weeks I turn on the car and it acts like it’s a frozen computer. The display shows a constant circle in motion that never stops until you turn the car off and then back on again. Recently, while on vacation, we received alerts for every system. Emissions, brakes, cruise control, etc, warning us of high speeds and acceleration. This happened as soon as we turned the car on after it had been driven the day before with no issues and was parked in a garage. My husband backed up the car thinking it was some kind of fluke and the car would not accelerate at all. We had to tow the car to the dealership as it was undriveable. Unfortunately, when it got there, they cleared the sensors and because they did not come on immediately, there was nothing they could do. It appears that there are some major issues with the sensors based on this class action lawsuit. Even with the notifications coming back on, repairs have not been successful in preventing drivers from filing this lawsuit due to their car coming to a complete stop while driving because the sensor on the transmission failed, etc. This is extremely dangerous and I am beyond afraid to drive my brand new car. I hope that Acura will take responsibility for this issue and take the necessary steps to ensure the safety of their customers.

I am almost at the end of my first year of ownership and have driven 10k miles. I must say, this vehicle drives wonderfully and handles well. The cabin is very comfortable and the cargo area is generous. Visibility is also very good. Plenty of tech is included, but unfortunately, the touch pad controller is not only annoying, but it's just silly! I hope Acura can improve this in the future. Another issue is fuel efficiency, which is not great. I get 19-19.5 mpg around town in COMFORT mode, and 25 mpg on the highway when I drive carefully. Compared to my previous Audi with a 3.0L supercharged engine, which gave me 23-24 mpg around town and a whopping 34 mpg on the highway, there's definitely room for improvement. Lastly, I have some concerns about the brakes. Shortly after purchasing, I heard a grinding noise in the front end as I came to a stop in mildly damp conditions and cool temperatures. I returned to Acura and was told there was nothing wrong. The noise continued, and then I was told that it was the composition of the pads which were supposedly new, and the Acura was working on a

Hello! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We're sorry to hear that you've been having trouble with your 2020 Acura RDX. It must be frustrating to have a loud popping noise when opening the rear hatch. We understand that the dealership has had the car for a month and has been unable to solve the problem. That must be disappointing. We hope that they can find a solution soon. Please let us know if there's anything we can do to help. Thank you for choosing Acura.

Considering an RDX? It looks amazing on paper, no doubt. However, before making a decision, it's important to do your research. You may want to look up the RDX Class Action Lawsuit to learn more about the experiences of some RDX owners, including myself. While the car has many great features, some owners have reported daily frustrations and safety issues with the electronics system. For example, there have been reports of freezes, shut downs, error messages, and sporadically non-functioning features. Even with the latest firmware, Apple CarPlay has been known to quit on a random but consistent basis while driving, which can be frustrating when navigating on a tricky patch of road. Additionally, the touchpad interface may not work as well with CarPlay or Android Auto, which can be a disappointment for those who use these apps frequently. It's important to note that Acura is working to revise the firmware and improve the system, but there is no guarantee that all issues will be resolved. Overall, the RDX is a great car, but it's important to be aware of these potential issues before making a purchase. But remember, you're not just buying a car on paper. It's important to find a car that not only offers great value for your money, but also works reliably.

In January, we purchased our seventh Acura, a 2020 RDX at Los Gatos Acura CA. While we have had some issues with the car, unfortunately, the quality and customer service from Acura have not met our expectations. The car has been to the Acura Service Center 7 times, and we have experienced some major electrical and audio issues. Although we have had to use rental cars for a month, we are hopeful that the issues will be resolved soon. We appreciate your understanding and hope that Acura will take the necessary steps to improve their quality and customer service. Thank you for considering our experience.
