2018 Acura Rdx problems
The Acura RDX is a compact luxury crossover SUV produced by Acura, a luxury vehicle division of Honda, as the second crossover SUV offering from the brand after the mid-size MDX. Since it was introduced, it shared its platform with the Honda Civic and CR-V.
First generation (TB1/2; 2007)
Originally previewed as the Acura RD-X concept car, the production RDX had its debut at the 2006 New York Auto Show and went on sale on August 11, 2006. A facelifted 2010 model went on sale in August 2009, which featured the addition Acura's "power plenum" grille and a front-wheel drive option.
Engine
The first-generation RDX is powered by a 2.3-litre straight-4 turbocharged gasoline engine, rated at 240 bhp (179 kW; 243 PS) at 6,000 rpm with a torque peak of 260 ft⋅lbf (350 N⋅m) at 4,500 rpm. At the time, this was uncommon among Honda vehicles.
The K23A1 engine has all-aluminum construction, an i-VTEC head, and dual balance shafts. It was also one of the only four-cylinder powered luxury SUVs of its generation. Honda's variable flow turbocharger reduces turbo lag by using a valve to narrow the exhaust passage at low rpm, increasing the velocity of the exhaust flow and keeping the turbine spinning rapidly. At higher rpm, the valve opens to allow more exhaust flow for increased boost. The engine also features a top-mounted intercooler which receives air from the grille, channeled by ducting under the hood.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimated fuel mileage is 19 mpg‑US (12 L/100 km; 23 mpg‑imp) city and 23 mpg‑US (10 L/100 km; 28 mpg‑imp) highway miles per gallon. An updated EPA mileage estimate in February 2007 rated the RDX at 17 mpg‑US (14 L/100 km; 20 mpg‑imp) city and 22 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg‑imp) highway.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-09
- VIN: 5J8TB4H39JL
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: My 2018 RDX has started to jerk when I stop and then restart. I have noticed some hesitation and a bit of jerky driving but today it was very noticeable. I could barely go above 40 miles an hour after I started driving after a stop light and the car was very jerky. It seems to be either a fuel pump or transmission issue. I am going to check with the RDX dealership where I bought the car in 2018 but I wanted to report the issue. I also looked up the VIN on my car for a recall and the system said my car had not been recalled. Not sure why my 2018 RDX is different from other 2018 RDX models that were recalled.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-05
- VIN: 5J8TB3H74JL
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: There is acceleration hesitation every time when I'm driving. The car seems to "catch" as it's accelerating and is very "jerky". The issue has gotten worse over time. I take my care to Acura for a second time next week to see if I can get it officially diagnosed; however, I've already been told there are no parts available and I'll just be "put on a list". This recall was announced in Dec 2023 and it's now Sept 2024 so I don't understand how this delay is acceptable. The additional details that I need to provide below only allow me to enter one date. I started noticing the issue last year and as I said it's gotten progressively worse. I last drove yesterday so used that date but it's been going on for about a year.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-24
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 5J8TB4H71JL
- Components: AIR BAGS,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: I had minor accident on [XXX] in my 2018 Acura RDX. The front crash sensor was damaged, so the car cannot be returned to me without a new one because the air bags and other safety equipment will not deploy in front crash. The repair shop ordered the part (no. 77930-TX4-A11) from Acura on 5/28, along with other parts needed. Acura's delivery date for this part has changed from 6/24, to 7/2, to 7/11, and 7/18. However, my Acura dealer indicates they've had this part on order since April, and Acura has provided no estimated delivery date. I filed a claim directly with Acura a week ago (case no. XXXX), demanding that they provide me with a comparable vehicle until they can provide this part, and no one has even returned my calls. American Honda is in violation of federal law, which requires companies that sell automobiles in the US to provide parts for them for 10 years from the date of manufacture, and to compensate consumers for failure to do so. SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-05
- VIN: 5J8TB4H76JL
- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: Not sure where to direct this, so please redirect if this is the wrong inbox. I recently went into a local service appointment to have our passenger seat belt buckle replaced at Acura Concord. We had noticed that the belt was not seating securely in the buckle, and could be removed with minimal-to-moderate effort (would guess 15-30 lbs of force) - certainly not safe in a collision. It started to stick intermittently, and slowly got worse over time until it got to a point that it was clearly unsafe. We were concerned and I proactively paid to have it replaced. The service technicians suspected that something might have entered the belt and was preventing the mechanism of working correctly. However, upon replacing the buckle, the service technician reported that the belt buckle had no foreign objects inside it, and appears to have been mechanically failing. This was alarming, and I quickly searched online to find the current seatbelt recall. However, my vehicle is not a part of that, but maybe should be given the technician's findings. The technician's report can be found through Acura of Concord, and has a reference number of RO#203423 / Tag# 172B. I asked the technician for the faulty belt and currently have it in my possession (pictures of it sticking are attached, this is the first and only time I've touched it since the appointment). Please let us know, we'd like to make sure these vehicles are as safe as they can be for all purchasers. Appreciate your time and attention here.

The next morning the mechanic started the vehicle and found nothing wrong. Mechanic kept the vehicle for a couple days and the problem reoccurred. Vehicle will not start. Computer diagnostics shows the 2018 Acura RDX Control Unit part number 38320-TX4-A31 is faulty. This part is backordered and likely will not be available in the near future. The intermittent starting failure poses a safety risk and could leave a driver stranded.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my 2018 RDX with technology package. After a test drive, I decided to purchase it even though I never considered myself an SUV guy. The combination of power, comfort and style won me over! Before this, I owned a 2013 TSX for five trouble-free years. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. The only issue I have is with the gas mileage - I'm getting around 16-17 with local driving, even with a light foot on the gas pedal. I was hoping for better, but I'm sure highway driving will achieve better results. Despite this, the vehicle is amazing! The transmission is smooth and it strikes a good balance between being too wispy or too rough when confronting uneven roads. It's a very well-made vehicle where the good far outweighs the subpar gas mileage. Thanks for listening!

Hey there! It seems like this SUV has a great sporty feel to it!
-
Smooth, reliable, comfortable, and fun to drive. I absolutely LOVE this car! When the time comes, I will definitely buy another one. I highly recommend both the car and the dealership - DCH Tustin Acura.
-
Driving this SUV is an absolute pleasure. It's smooth, quiet, and handles with ease.
-
It's a great car and we love it so far! It has plenty of power to move around and gets good mileage on the highway at 28 miles per gallon, and 21 miles per gallon in the city. While we can't speak to its reliability just yet, Acura is a well-known car brand and should be reliable. I'd also like to take a moment to thank Edmunds.com for making my car shopping experience a lot easier!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2018 RDX ADVANCE Package. Overall, it's a great looking car and I've enjoyed owning it. However, I did experience some issues with my brakes at around 1000 miles. Thankfully, the car was still under warranty and the dealer was able to replace the brake pads free of charge. Recently, at around 16,000 miles, I noticed some shaking in the steering wheel when I hit the brakes, so I brought it in for maintenance. Unfortunately, I was informed that my front rotors had overheated due to driving too fast on the freeway or downhill. Since my warranty had expired, I had to pay $295 for the repairs. While I'm a bit disappointed with the brakes, I do wish that Acura had a better warranty for them, especially since the car has features that encourage hard braking when driving too close to other vehicles.

The vehicle design could use some improvement, as some features such as the GPS, Infocenter, interior design, and A/C could be better. Additionally, the exterior design could be modified to prevent debris from accumulating and causing rust. However, the engine and chassis are great. The dealer-installed roof rack was not a good investment, as it does not match the car's color and appears to be installed at an odd angle. The all-wheel-drive capabilities are limited without mud and snow tires, as I had trouble getting out of my driveway during a snowstorm in Seattle. The GPS can be frustrating to use, as it provides too many options without clear city information. The voice commands on the infocenter can also be challenging. Despite these issues, I appreciate the car's strong engine and chassis.
