STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-18
- VIN: WVW587CD3NW
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: This vehicle constantly displays and announces erroneous “Emergency Assist Is Currently Not Available” and “Travel Assist Is Currently Not Available” warnings. These warnings distract drivers and put the safety of the driver, passengers, and the public at risk because drivers have to take photographs of these erroneous warnings while they are occurring. Drivers have to document this defect through photographs because the dealerships deny the existence of the defect or request documentation when the defect does not appear as a fault in the vehicle's electronics modules . This is a widespread problem with this vehicle model and apparently is caused by a defective steering wheel. Dealerships are uncooperative in fixing this defect.
STEERING,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-08
- VIN: WVWH87CD3NW
- Components: STEERING,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Travel Assist is disabled which includes Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist. The warning lights flash on and off, sometimes multiple times a second, sounding a loud beeping each time. It is triggered at engine start and persists through all speeds. I have experienced it 0-70 mph. The flashing lights and associated rapid beeping indicating the failure is extremely distracting while driving. Warning lights and warning sounds are designed to alert the driver to a potential safety issue so ignoring the lights and sounds is dangerous in the event it is a different caution/warning.
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-15
- VIN: WVWFB7CD8NW
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Travel Assist is disabled which includes Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist. The warning lights flash on and off, sometimes multiple times a second, sounding a loud beeping each time. It is triggered at engine start and persists through all speeds. I have experienced it 0-70 mph. The flashing lights and associated rapid beeping indicating the failure is extremely distracting while driving. Warning lights and warning sounds are designed to alert the driver to a potential safety issue so ignoring the lights and sounds is dangerous in the event it is a different caution/warning. However, also not ignoring it is dangerous because of the frequency of the warnings which causes the driver to look away from the road. After speaking with the maintenance department at my VW dealership, they indicated that this is a widely known problem that is remedied only with the replacement of the steering wheel. There are several other sensors that are triggered by the same issue I was told by the maintenance department. They are uncertain at this time if it impacts the airbag system which is another potential safety concern. The steering wheel can only be ordered after inspection by the maintenance department and there is shortage and/or back order of the part to fix the problem.
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-03
- VIN: WVW487CD3NW
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: The "Travel Assist is currently not available" warning and chime constantly comes on. The chime and constant alerts are extremely distracting and from looking it up online it appears other drivers are experiencing the same issue. It happens randomly and cleaning the sensors has not solved the issue.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-25
- VIN: WVW687CD8NW
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Car’s GPS appears to loose location while navigating. Head unit display will behave erratically causing distractions along side noises. Additionally, car will display warnings on dash with additional noises again causing distraction. Eventually after losing GPS location car will snap back onto correct location on map. Self correction can happen between 30 seconds and 20+ minutes.
STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-21

STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-31
- VIN: WVWEB7CD6NW
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: Water got inside of door causing damage to door, vehicle was previously repair via 57J3 service bulletin to prevent said damage but i believe repairs were made to late to prevent said issue i believe will eventually cause door to prematurely rust and create a hole in a 2022 model year vehicle Local dealerships will not repair as they state it was cause by road damage which doesn’t make sense as the damage is protruding out not in and also on the opposite side of which the paint is protruding there is another bulge No body work was ever performed on vehicle
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-04
- VIN: WVWFB7CD1NW
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Travel assistance failure are constant and the emergency braking system engages occasionally which can be a detriment to the occupants. The constant chiming and notifications are a distraction and the car has to be stopped and turned off in hopes of the system resetting properly. Dealerships do not know of any updates and Volkswagen has updated these issues in Europe but still to this date has not acknowledged these issues in USA
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-12-20
- VIN: WVWFB7CD6NW
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: Shift knob is beginning to crack at the right rear base of the knob. Car had less that 1000 miles before noticing the crack. I checked if I was affected as I read on vwvortex forums that many other golf mk8 were reporting shift knobs falling off mid shift.

Negative 2022 Volkswagen Golf r car reviews
Positive 2022 Volkswagen Golf r car reviews

Don't let negative reviews about the infotainment system sway your decision. I've been driving my '22 R since February and have never accidentally turned on the heated steering wheel. The volume and radio sliders on the wheel are also much easier to use than actual buttons. The climate control works so well that I set the temperature when I first got the car and haven't touched it since. The defroster, front and rear, are located on the lighted headlight switch area for easy access. There are also tons of shortcuts that you can customize to your liking. Some reviewers complain about the 7-step process to turn off traction control, but it's actually very simple - just swipe down from the top to open the shortcut and then tap off! While the manual transmission may be a cool bit of nostalgia, it's considerably slower than the DSG. With the DSG, the competition doesn't stand a chance. Don't just take my word for it, try it out for yourself!

You'll adjust to the touch controls fairly quickly. The car has a great on-road feeling and excellent acceleration. I hope they give everyone a software update on the infotainment, but other than that, I love it!
Fredy Oberbrunner 2024-11-01
The car is good, but unfortunately, the touch/swipe/wave controls ruin the user experience. The touch screen has a full one-second latency, and the rigid suspension makes it a fifty-fifty chance of changing temperature, air flow, media source, or playlist on the first try. This can be quite distracting from driving itself. The other half of the time, your finger lands on something else, or your hand waves by another sensor, leading to a different menu. The wheel is also a disappointment, with the heating touch-button being too close to the right thumb base, and the left thumb base can trigger driving mode change. This can be frustrating, especially when you are in your drive setting. The graphic touch-based user interface with layered menus is not ideal for a fast and hard driving mechanical construct where the user is in an unstable position. I was not expecting this from decent German engineering, and it held me back from buying an electric car. Other functions are acceptable, but there are a few hiccups present, which are not expected in this price range. For example, the engine hood rubber dampener flies out of position every fifty miles or so, the wireless phone charger overheats so much that the phone dies, and the base of the stick shifter heats up. The mirror does not turn down on reverse, even though the setting is on, and the system does not flag low tire pressure repeatedly and on all wheels (as low as 29 psi from recommended 45). The manual shifter took about a thousand miles to flow and not stick, but at five thousand miles now, it is almost as good as the best ones I've used.
