- Summary: My jetta stalls without warning when the gas gauge is at a quarter of a tank or less. No engine check light or any other any other device comes on to warn me it is going to stall. My speed does not matter. It happens at freeway speeds or around town. It does not occur if the gas gauge shows more than 1/4 of a tank of fuel. I do not know if it is an electrical problem, a fuel propulsion problem or an engine problem. From reading volkswagon forums, this is a very common problem with volkswagons of different years, including the new Tiguans. I'm sure there have been many fatalities as a result of this defect. I am surprised volkswagon has not been forced to repair this dangerous, life threatening problem before now! Maybe, a class action law suit involving products liability, merchantability, and fitness for a particular use would benefit not only owners, but the general public at large. I believe it is your duty to protect the general public from manufactures who place dangerous, defective products in the stream of commerce. Your action is required, and demanded. The first time ocurred right after I purchased the car in 2019. It has stalled many times since then, before I realized I needed to keep the fuel tank at least 1/2 full at all times. Keeping it 1/2 full at all times greatly deminishes the range of travel before I have to refill. It is inconvenient and expensive since fuel has to be purchased at places other the most economical place I usually purchase my gasoline. Thank you

I WAS INFORMED I HAD A WORN CLUTCH AND IN 2008 I REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION AND CONTINUED HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. AFTER THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS SPENT ON THIS VEHICLE ON APRIL 12 OF 2012 I SENT IT THE JUNKYARD. I WILL FOLLOW UP AND SEND MORE HARD COPIES DOCUMENTS TO NHTSA AS I HAVE MY ENTIRE SERVICE RECORDS FROM 2003 - 2012 TO SUBMIT. - Summary: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2003 Volkswagen Passat sedan, Jetta, Jetta wagon, Golf, EuroVan, EuroVan Camper Van and EuroVan Chassis vehicles. Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to explode.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could explode with metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began May 2, 2019. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 69X3.

- Summary: The Gates Corporation (Gates) is recalling certain aftermarket Tru-Flow Water Pumps, part number TFW 41127, sold at certain NAPA Auto Parts and/or installed by automotive service technicians after November 1, 2013 (and manufactured August 2013 through October 2013) that have a black-colored pulley/sprocket or do not have 'US9377' stamped on the water pump housing. These service replacement parts were sold for use in model year 1999-2005 Audi A4, 2000-2006 Audi TT, 1998-2005 Volkswagen Beetle, 1999-2006 Golf, 1999-2008 and 2011-2013 Volkswagen Jetta, and 2000-2005 Volkswagen Passat. In the affected water pumps, the pulley or sprocket that turns the timing belt may develop microfractures causing the timing belt to fail.
- Consequence: A failure of the timing belt may cause the engine to shut down, potentially increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Hi there! I noticed that there aren't any reviews for the diesel version, and many people seem to be concerned about the MPG. I just wanted to share my experience with the TDI Wagon - my family has been driving it for 225k miles and it reliably gets 35-38 mpg on the highway, depending on how you drive. We've only had to replace 2 alternators (one died and the replacement died under warranty), and we've had to clean the carbon out of the engine once. Overall, it's been a great experience and driving it feels just like a gasoline car. Thanks for reading!

I absolutely adore my Jetta! Despite its modest 115hp, it's an absolute joy to drive thanks to the manual transmission, great steering, and fun ride. I've been a proud owner of my Jetta for three years now, and it has been a reliable companion with very few issues. Living in Wisconsin, I was pleasantly surprised by how well it performed in heavy snow and ice, leaving my friends with trucks and SUVs in awe. It's truly unstoppable in winter weather! As someone who is 6ft 1, I appreciate the ample head and legroom while driving. While the gas mileage is not the best, averaging around 26 mpg combined, I have gotten an impressive 31-32 mpg on long highway trips. The only downside to this powertrain is the engine, which can make passing or climbing small hills a bit of a challenge. However, this would be more tolerable if the mileage was excellent, but it's somewhat mediocre for a car of this size. My only negative experience was with an EPC censor that would put my car in limp mode. After taking it to several mechanics and a dealer, I discovered that a botched repair from a previous owner was to blame. It's worth noting that these cars have touchy electronics that can be expensive to fix, so be careful. Overall, I highly recommend this car as a cheap, fun-to-drive option that stands out from the crowd of Fords, Chevys, and Hyundais.

The TDI engine may come with a higher price tag, but it's worth it for the impressive gas mileage - now up to 52 MPG/HWY from the original 49 MPG/HWY with automatic transmission. Additionally, this car runs quietly (at 2,000 RPM while cruising at 70 MPH) and emits less CO2 pollution than my Passat 1.8T (approximately 1,500 lbs. less per year). Driving this turbo-diesel is an absolute joy, thanks to its impressive torque. Plus, it offers a range of fuel options, including standard diesel, biodiesel, and with a few modifications, vegetable oil and waste vegetable oil.

I bought this vehicle in 06' and was initially sold on the sporty black on black look. Unfortunately, within 30 days of purchasing the Jetta, the water pump, electrical system, and sunroof all malfunctioned. Since then, I've invested over $4k in repairs and counting. VW repairs are notoriously expensive, and even a simple side mirror replacement cost me $954 at the dealership. To make matters worse, my recall for the sunroof wasn't even accepted. This car has been a nightmare! The sunroof leaks, the water pump went bad, and there is no legroom for backseat passengers. Additionally, the cup holders are located above the radio, making it difficult to see the station or insert a CD without removing my drinks. Water from my cups has even leaked over the radio and into my cash tray. Finding rims to fit has also been a challenging experience.

The VW Jetta TDI has great mileage, but unfortunately, that is where the greatness ends. While driving on the highway, the ride is tolerable, but around town, it sounds and feels like I'm driving a 'Big-Rig'. The motor gets louder the more I drive it, and when I'm stopped, I can feel my entire body vibrate. Additionally, there are rattles in the dash and all the windows squeak constantly at speeds from 0-40. The back seat is essentially non-existent, and the cup holder location is ridiculous. Unless you prioritize fuel efficiency over other factors, I would recommend staying away from this poorly engineered and poorly constructed automobile.

Just a friendly reminder to avoid parking under trees. Unfortunately, I had to replace my windshield after a hickory nut hit the exposed edge of the glass when it was only a week old. It seems that the edge is the most fragile part and it would be great if VW could cover it. Additionally, I've been hearing some vibration noises from the dash after only two months. I was really hoping for the same quality as the 88 Jetta I bought new back then, but it seems to be lacking. Although the car looks good, the quality doesn't quite match up. Lastly, it would be great to have more leg room in both the front and back. Thank you for your attention to these matters!

Although my experience with my Jetta has been disappointing, I believe that Volkswagen produces high-quality vehicles. However, I did encounter some issues with my car, such as the transmission breaking just before the one year mark, jerking when shifting gears, and experiencing sudden speed changes on the freeway. Additionally, there were some annoying lights on the dashboard that wouldn't go away, a loud clicking noise in the turn signal area, and a strong smell of crayons in the summer. The car also burned motor oil quickly. Despite these issues, I appreciate that the Jetta is great on gas. If you are considering purchasing a Jetta, I recommend buying a new one to avoid any potential issues.

I was hoping to save some money by getting 45 city and 55 HWY, but unfortunately my two Jettas, a 2001 and a 2003, keep breaking down. The cost of replacing a radiator fan is over $550, which includes 2.4-2.6 hours of labor and a fan that costs over $200. The car requires regular maintenance due to the exhaust being fed back into itself. Recently, I experienced a loss of power and could only go 60mph, which required a replacement of the air control sensor. The part cost $180+ and was just a 4 inch pipe with a sensor in it. The parts are quite expensive. Additionally, if you park too close to a concrete parking bumper, it can go under the car and pull your bumper facing out. The oil dip stick goes into a plastic pipe that is designed to break after heating/cooling, and the replacement cost is $20. When it breaks, the plastic could go into the engine.
