THEREFORE, I RAN AWAY FROM THE CAR, YELLED FOR HELP AND CALLED 911. WITHIN THREE MINUTES MY CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES AND POPPED A FEW TIMES AS WELL. THE FIRE ALSO CAUGHT THE GRASS, A FEW BUSHES AND TREES ON FIRE AS WELL. THE FIREFIGHTERS CAME TO PUT THE FIRE OUT AND INFORMED ME THAT THE FIRE STARTED IN MY ENGINE AND TRAVELED FROM THERE TO THE GAS TANK AND SPREAD FROM THERE.

ON MAY 12, 2017, WITH MY 08 JETTA IN THEIR POSSESSION STATED THEY WERE CLOSING AND I WILL NEED TO PAY THEIR UNKNOWN MECHANIC THE REPAIRS. 9. I REQUESTED FOR PVM TO FURNISH A MECHANICAL VEHICLE REPORT, LOCATION AND STATUS ON THE VEHICLE. I RECEIVED NOTHING BUT BACK AND FORTH CONFIRMATION FROM UNKNOWN REPS UPON PVM CLOSING. 10. PLEASE NOTE: I RECEIVED HARASSING PHONE CALLS FROM "AL" A SALES AGENT WITH PVM THAT WAS NEVER LICENSED TO SELL IN NORTH CAROLINA. 11. SINCE MAY 12, 2017, PVM AND THEIR MECHANIC WAS NEVER SEEN AND MY VEHICLE I NEVER HAD IN MY POSSESSION TO DATE. 12. 2008 Volkswagen Jetta recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 6 recalls for different components of the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta.
- Manufacturer: Tenneco Automotive
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:MASTER CYLINDER
- Summary: Tenneco Automotive (Tenneco) is recalling certain Beck/Arnley Master Cylinders, part number 072-9831, sold as aftermarket or replacement parts for 2004-2018 Volkswagen Jetta, and 2012-2019 Volkswagen Beetle vehicles. The fluid seal crimp on the master cylinder may be insufficient, causing brake fluid to leak or the cylinder to come apart.
- Consequence: If there is a brake fluid leak, it can reduce braking ability, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Beck/Arnley will notify the distributors that sold the master cylinders and will work with the distributors to notify the end users. Affected master cylinders will be exchanged for a new master cylinder (part number 072-9990), free of charge. The recall began October 30, 2020. Owners may contact Tenneco customer service at 1-800-625-9319.

Modifications made while the vehicles were in an internal evaluation period may cause the affected vehicles to not comply with all of the applicable regulatory requirements.
- Consequence: If the vehicles do not meet all regulatory requirements, there could be an increased risk of a crash, fire, or injury.

- Summary: The Gates Corporation (Gates) is recalling certain aftermarket Tru-Flow Water Pumps, part number TFW 41127, sold at certain NAPA Auto Parts and/or installed by automotive service technicians after November 1, 2013 (and manufactured August 2013 through October 2013) that have a black-colored pulley/sprocket or do not have 'US9377' stamped on the water pump housing. These service replacement parts were sold for use in model year 1999-2005 Audi A4, 2000-2006 Audi TT, 1998-2005 Volkswagen Beetle, 1999-2006 Golf, 1999-2008 and 2011-2013 Volkswagen Jetta, and 2000-2005 Volkswagen Passat. In the affected water pumps, the pulley or sprocket that turns the timing belt may develop microfractures causing the timing belt to fail.
- Consequence: A failure of the timing belt may cause the engine to shut down, potentially increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: Gates will notify owners, and dealers will replace the water pump, free of charge. The recall began during May 2014. Owners may contact The Gates Corporation at 1-303-744-1911.

THE JETTA, JETTA SPORTWAGEN, AND RABBIT VEHICLES MAY HAVE A SMALL PLASTIC TAB LOCATED ON THE WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR THAT MAY CHAFE AGAINST AN UNDERHOOD FUEL SUPPLY LINE. THE NEW BEETLE AND THE NEW BEETLE CONVERTIBLE VEHICLES MAY HAVE A FASTENING CLAMP ON A HYDRAULIC HOSE OF THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM THAT MAY BE LOCATED IN AN IMPROPER POSITION WHICH COULD CAUSE CHAFING AGAINST AN UNDERHOOD FUEL SUPPLY LINE.
- Consequence: IF CHAFING OCCURS, THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR A FUEL LEAK TO DEVELOP. FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND IF NECESSARY REPLACE THE UNDERHOOD FUEL LINE. ADDITIONALLY, DEPENDING ON THE VEHICLE MODEL, DEALERS WILL EITHER REMOVE THE PLASTIC TAB FROM THE WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR, OR INSPECT THE POSITION OF THE FASTENING CLAMP AND ADJUST THE RELATED FASTENING CLAMP INTO THE CORRECT POSITION. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE JANUARY 31, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLKSWAGEN AT 1-800-822-8987.

SOME SCREWS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN TORQUED PROPERLY DURING ASSEMBLY AND COULD LOOSEN OVER TIME, CAUSING A KNOCKING SOUND WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THE DRIVESHAFT SCREWS COULD LOOSEN TO THE POINT WHERE THE DRIVESHAFT DETACHES FROM THE GEARBOX.
- Consequence: IF THE VEHICLE IS MOVING WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE DETACHED DRIVESHAFT COULD CAUSE DAMAGE THE GEARBOX HOUSING. A DAMAGE GEARBOX HOUSING COULD LEAK GEARBOX OIL ONTO THE STREET AND CREATE A RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH FOR BOTH THE DRIVER AND OTHER MOTORISTS.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE DRIVESHAFT SCREWS AND REPLACE THE SCREWS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 24, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLKSWAGEN AT 1-800-822-8987.

This is my fourth Jetta. I've owned a few in the past and I always seem to come back to them when it's time for a new car. I guess that says it all!

I recently read that this car was marketed towards women, and I have to say, they hit the nail on the head! It's incredibly easy to drive, but still has plenty of power. I absolutely love my Jetta! And to any guys out there, don't be put off by the marketing - I'd be more than happy to let you take it for a spin. I promise you won't feel emasculated driving it! The gas mileage is also really impressive - I once traded in an American car that was supposed to get 30 mpg, but that was a total lie. The Jetta, on the other hand, lives up to its promises and is super reliable. It's the perfect car for winter, even in the 12 inches of snow we get here - although I would recommend getting snow tires just to be safe.

Love it! I bought this car for my wife, but I haven't stopped driving it at every opportunity. It's so much fun to drive, fast, and comfortable. The only issue I've had is with the DSG transmission. I wish I had bought the manual instead. While the DSG shifts smoothly, it can be awkward to start and difficult to start on a hill. It's kind of like driving a manual shift without the benefit of controlling it with a clutch. The dealership has received many complaints, but they have extended the DSG warranty. While this may not be the best solution, it does show that they are trying to address the issue. Overall, I would definitely buy this car again. It's the most fun car I've ever driven!

1) There was one serious defect upon purchase, a broken gear shift. 2) However, I have not experienced any problems since. 3) I am surprised to read about poor gas mileage. I consistently achieve 30-32 mpg on the highway, which is the best I have ever had. 4) I do wish it could last forever.

I purchase a 2008 VW Jetta SE with the tiptronic transmission, sport styling package and 17 inch aptiva wheels. This car has exceeded my expectations again and again. I have owned numerous European cars and have to say this car feels and drives like my Audis and Volvos, maybe even better. VW has really thought out every little detail. The sport styling package with the 17 inch wheels really makes it stand out in the crowd. The build quality puts any car in it's class to shame. A joy to drive!

The car has unfortunately experienced several engine problems since the first few weeks into the lease. The fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced at about 12,000 miles, and more recently, some connectors in the fuse box shorted out, which took 2 days in the shop to diagnose. Currently, there are warning lights coming on and off, such as the fuel cap warning light and the tire pressure light, despite the tires appearing to be properly inflated. However, we are confident in our ability to diagnose and fix any issues that may arise in the future.

I've had a lot of issues with my VW in the past 6 months. It seems like every time I fix one thing, something else goes wrong. I wouldn't recommend getting a VW to anyone. Interestingly, my Audi before this one was also owned by VW. I wonder what happened?

German engineering may not have impressed me with this car, as I experienced oil leaks, gas cap malfunctions, and interior vibrations at just 10,000 miles. However, it is undeniably fun to drive, with a race car feel that requires race car type maintenance. While it may not be for everyone, this car requires an owner who truly loves it. It would be a shame for it to become just another pre-loved VW.
