- Consequence: THE BRAKE LIGHTS COULD BECOME INOPERATIVE, OR REMAIN ON. FAILURE TO PROVIDE THE PROPER SIGNAL WHEN BRAKING COULD LEAD TO A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL THE NEWLY DESIGNED BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 27, 2007, AND WILL BE CONDUCTED IN SEVERAL STAGGERED MAILINGS THROUGH SEPTEMBER 21, 2007. VEHICLES WITHIN THE MAKE, MODEL, AND MODEL YEAR OF THIS POPULATION MAY BE INVOLVED IN EITHER THIS RECALL OR 06V-183, BUT NOT BOTH. THE REMEDY IS THE SAME FOR EACH RECALL. It sounds like you've found a fantastic car! It's great to hear that it's so much fun to drive, and even better that it's the most fun car to drive under 20,000 right now. The cup holders may be in a bit of a strange place, but that's really the only negative thing you've mentioned. It's wonderful that the turbo kicks in at 30 RPM and really gives you a boost. It definitely sounds like a must-buy, especially in 5 speed!

I chose the GTI over the WRX because, in addition to performance, I also desired a more subtle exterior and some luxurious features inside. For just $500, you can chip it and achieve over 200HP at the flywheel. Even those who are not performance-oriented should consider this upgrade. For around $2K installed, you can add an air filter, turbo back exhaust, dv valve, inlet pipe, and maybe some intercooler piping. Most people will be satisfied with shocks and springs, which cost around $750 installed. Bilstein Sport/H&R Sport will maintain a near-stock comfort level. For about $2K installed, you can upgrade to a clutch and limited slip, which is fantastic. The Audi TT front brake upgrade (the same as the 337 model) costs $550 installed.

I considered both the GTI 1.8T and RSX Type-S for my work car and I really love both of them. However, I ended up choosing the VW because it had more equipment for $2K+ less. The VW had more airbags, bigger tires/rims, longer warranty, better sounding stereo (sorry Bose), arm rest, cheaper insurance, and more hatch/trunk space. I originally wanted a silver 5-speed with leather, but unfortunately, all of them have been sold in this region. I had to settle for cloth and AT, but I'm not disappointed as Tiptronic is a great compromise. Although the RSX is quicker off the line, the 1.8T really pins you to your seat once it fires up. I think the GTI feels quicker than any of the Type-S's I drove. Both cars are sweet, but the VW is better value for money.

Although I have had some challenges with this car, I have learned a lot about car maintenance and repair. I purchased it used in '05 with 18,000 miles on it for $18,500 and have invested over $9,000 in maintenance. Currently, it is not running due to a water leak through the ceiling. I have had to replace both axels, the clutch after about 2,000 miles of ownership, and have had suspension, turbo/exhaust, and ceiling leaks. I have replaced about 20 different hoses and gauges. It was on 2010's Consumer Reports worst car list. I had to replace the timing belt sooner than expected due to issues, and the Catalytic Converter was also replaced. Despite these challenges, I have gained valuable knowledge and experience in car maintenance and repair.
