Hey there! I was in the market for a commuter car since I travel nearly 90 miles a day. I wanted something that was not only safe, but also had lots of comfort features and was fun to drive. The GTI checked all those boxes and more! It has amazing safety features (6 airbags), and can come with leather, sunroof, telescopic steering wheel, and is super fast. I have all the options you can get on mine and I couldn't be happier. I definitely recommend the 17

This is one of the most amazing vehicles I've ever driven! It's attractively designed, well-modeled, and performance-oriented, making it ridiculously fun to drive. To top it all off, it's boosted. The turbo may not be huge, but it feels like a kick in the pants and pushes you down the road like you wouldn't believe. There's not a rice-racer on the road that can take this car, stock. It's definitely worth a very long look for a fun, safe, reliable, and above all boostable car. I'm not sure the difference is worth another $20k for the Audi S4, which is the only car that surpasses this.

I was on the hunt for a used BMW M3 or Audi S4, but was disappointed by the limited availability in the $30-$33k range. However, when I walked into VW, I was pleasantly surprised to see the newest 200HP VR6 and immediately asked for a test drive. Although only a 1.8L Turbo was available, I was still impressed. Within just 2 hours, I had signed up to buy the next VR6 coming into the lot, thinking to myself, 'If the 1.8 hums, imagine how a V6 will perform!' I was absolutely thrilled with my decision, especially considering that I was originally planning to buy a used car, but ended up with a brand new one.

I'm glad to hear that you bought a slightly used 337 and have never regretted it. It's great to know that the build quality of the newer car far exceeds the old, especially since it replaced an '89 GTi 16V. The North American 337s were built in Brazil, which means they do not suffer many of the Mexican GTi problems such as windows falling out. It's impressive that it handles incredibly well even in stock configuration, and the Audi-sourced brakes and 6-speed make excellent additions.

After driving a 1997 Mits Eclipse GSX (AWD, 210hp, Turbo) for 5 years, I was initially hesitant about switching to a FWD, 200hp, 6-cylinder car. However, after taking the GTI VR6 for a test drive on the recommendation of a friend, I was thoroughly impressed by its performance and the overall VW experience. In fact, it has exceeded my expectations compared to my previous experiences with Mits, Subaru, and Mini Cooper. After 5 months of driving, I have no complaints and find the car to be increasingly enjoyable to drive. Overall, the GTI VR6 offers a super fun driving experience, great interior and exterior design, and an excellent overall package at an unbeatable value. Unlike my Mits GSX, which had reliability issues, my GTI has been nothing short of exceptional in terms of reliability and performance.

I purchased my 2002 GTI back in 2006 with only 39k miles on it. Despite the car having a MIL light on (check engine light), I decided it was worth the purchase because of its factory warranty. Unfortunately, this car has been quite a challenge since the first 2 weeks of ownership. Over the years, I have had to replace several parts including the MAF sensor, clutch (at 40k), 3 (YES THREE) throttle bodies over the course of 6 years, coolant temp. sensor, hazard switch, ignition switch, two sets of coil packs, large engine cooling fan, upper and lower control arm bushings, and the struts are bad (at 130k miles..). It's important to know what you're getting into with this model year! Despite all of this, I still have this car though.

Hey there! About a year ago, I treated myself to a 02 GTI with only 73,000 miles on it. It was a one-owner car and both the interior and exterior were in excellent condition. Unfortunately, just one month after buying it, the glove box door broke. Then, the following month, my car started making a horrible noise. I took it to my trustworthy mechanic and he discovered that the water pump had gone bad. I had to replace the water pump, timing belt, and a few other things, which cost me around $1,000. Later on, in the middle of winter, my heater blower, windshield wipers, and turn signals ALL went out. After replacing a few things, I found out that it was just the relay switch, which only cost $35. But wait, there's more! After dealing with all of that, the check engine light came on and I needed a new transmission. Phew! It's been quite a journey, but I'm glad I have a reliable car now.

Although I have had some challenges with this car, I have learned a lot about car maintenance and repair. I purchased it used in '05 with 18,000 miles on it for $18,500 and have invested over $9,000 in maintenance. Currently, it is not running due to a water leak through the ceiling. I have had to replace both axels, the clutch after about 2,000 miles of ownership, and have had suspension, turbo/exhaust, and ceiling leaks. I have replaced about 20 different hoses and gauges. It was on 2010's Consumer Reports worst car list. I had to replace the timing belt sooner than expected due to issues, and the Catalytic Converter was also replaced. Despite these challenges, I have gained valuable knowledge and experience in car maintenance and repair.
