This is my second VW in a very long driving career. I'm glad to say that the GTI is nearly as much fun to drive as my other German sports car. I was surprised by the performance from the 1.8T. The overall quality of the car is exactly what one expects from a German auto. As someone who travels extensively and rents almost every American and some Japanese brands, I can confidently say that the VW is superior to all of the American brands in terms of comfort and performance. Needless to say, I am not disappointed with my purchase.

I absolutely adore my car! Although, I must admit, I wasn't a fan of how boxy and awkward it looked when it was stock. That's why I decided to lower it, and now it's the most amazing thing ever - I get so many looks! When I first got it, it had 60k miles on it and needed a lot of maintenance, like a timing belt and ignition coils. I took it to the dealer for the timing belt, but it was quite expensive at $1000, so I found somewhere else to do it for $500. Just a heads up, the dealer can be quite pricey. I either fix things myself or take it somewhere else. As long as you treat it well, it's a very reliable car. If you don't, it'll definitely take a toll on your wallet. It's also quite fast! I love my car so much that I'll never sell it. In fact, when the engine goes, I plan to swap another 1.8t into it. I hope you love yours just as much as I do!

The GTI is a car that truly embodies German engineering. It has the ability to handle the Nurburgring with ease and can accelerate from 55-85 mph in no time. The car has a great sound when revving through higher rpm and its styling cues are reminiscent of the 3-door Audi S3. I enjoy letting onlookers hear the turbo spool up and whistle, and it always turns heads. The GTI is a great option for those who want a high-performance car without breaking the bank.

I love my GTi! It's a great car, but I do wish it had better gas mileage. Considering it's a small hatchback weighing less than 3000 pounds, I expected it to be more fuel-efficient. I understand that it's turbocharged and that's pretty cool. However, I think the manufacturer could have aimed for at least 30 mpg. So far, I haven't experienced any technical issues with the car. The only downside is having to fill up with premium gas, especially with the current gas prices. Overall, I'm still happy with my GTi!

The car has some great features such as smooth power, slick shifting, excellent handling, and a great ride. The interior design is also on par with Audi-level quality. However, there are some downsides to consider such as high insurance rates, rattles and squeaks that can intrude on an otherwise quiet cabin, and electronic gadgets that are prone to failure. OnStar was inoperative from day one and the alarm/central locking system was buggy. I have owned four VWs and have become accustomed to their quirks such as bad electrical systems, squeaks, leaks, and windows that fall into the doors. It is important to have a good dealer to ensure a positive experience. Overall, it is up to you to decide if you can get used to these quirks. If not, you may want to consider a CIVIC Si!
